  1. So it is nothing threatening to my PC, but nonetheless, I hate to see my D: partition so messy. It is supposed to contain only 2 main folders: My stuff and Program Files, is there a way I can effectively remove this folder from being created at startup? I am starting to think this is a bug on Microsoft's part, even after I installed this security update, it keeps prompting me to install it but nothing ever changes. When I startup my notebook again, it would ask for it again. And this process keeps going on, forever on my taskbar there will be a security icon asking me to download windows updates. My friends have been getting this, can anyone confirm if they have any solution to this irritating bug by Microsoft?
  2. I am sorry but I didn't quite understand, so let me clarify:You mentioned that you have a permanent same sex partner, meaning of the same sexuality and not of different sexuality? If that is the case, I would like to ask you how do you deal with the constant eye staring, critics on you and your partner? What made you decide to have a partner of the same sexuality?
  3. Everytime I restart my computer, I get this unknown folder being created in my D: driveIn this case, it has this folder name, '94e401e0995d351da92d7574a2' and the file 'msxml4-KB927978-enu' in it. 4. With regards to WMP 11, I only installed it on my desktop I bought 3 years ago, which is a 2.66 GHz and 512 MB RAM with a Nvidia GeForce 6200 128 MB Graphics Card. I don't see any problems with the visualisation in my player. However I may have a solution, I experienced this when I just bought my Graphics card. I did not install the drivers yet and when I clicked and held onto the scrollbar in my firefox, it was lagging tremendously bad, it took 2-3 seconds for it to move down. After I installed my graphics card driver, the problem was fixed. I think you should try looking for your graphics card manufacturer and install the driver of that particular model. I am not going to install WMP 11 in my notebook though, in fact I am not going to install anything new from Microsoft (IE 7, Microsoft Office 2007, WMP 11 .... etc) till 2 years after Vista's release so that there not be any unnecessary bugs.
  5. I think the USB TV Tuner is probably the thing I want, more expensive but definitely more easier to install and with it, I could probably do it with a laptop too. Thanks for all the replies in this thread, I will most probably get this USB TV Tuner when I get my next month's pay
  6. Integrated graphics card sucks very badly. I remember how a friend of mine was using Intel Extreme Graphics and it was so bad, within less than a month, he could not play the Sims 2 and we all know how much requirements does that game need and it is not really that intensive. Another thing bad about integrated graphics card is that you are pretty much stuck with that graphics card unless you change your motherboard. I think when it comes to hardware, not bundled hardware, you get pretty much for what you get. Glad to know you have found what you want though But when it comes to Graphics card, I would prefer Nvidia or ATI. These are the 2 brands which I trust fully in.
  7. I am always fascinated with new releases and Adobe or should I say Macromedia since they are under the same website has never disappointed me in any aspect compared to Windows. I have full confidence in their products, their Beta will DEFINITELY not be like Internet Explorer 7 Beta. I am downloading this at the moment and will be back with my reviews on it although I doubt it would be anytime soon as it takes a lot of time to figure out the different between versions of software with so many features like photoshop
  8. The problem with youtube is people need to upload it before you can watch, for that to happen, they would have to record it with perhaps their DVD recorder, burn it on a DVD, copy it to their desktop and then upload to youtube. Who knows how long that would take? Wouldn't it be better if we could watch these Asian, Korean, Japanese ... etc dramas fresh?
  9. I must really try this web-hosting sometime in the future; i6networks, if you claim it is even better than Xisto, then it must be some amazing host to have more than 100% uptime and all the features which a paid Xisto hosting (Xisto - Web Hosting.com) has. In any case, I wish you luck and hope you will be back to post regularly and participate in the discussion here at the forum
  10. It may seem like a normal natural phenomenon which has just occurred but the reason I am writing this in the 'Vent' forum is because of the consequences it brought together with. This earthquake in Taiwan was measured 6.7 in the Richter scale and it's vibrations managed to damage the underwater cable over here in Singapore, causing us not to be able to surf the internet; maybe not the internet but overseas websites. Non-intranet and local websites were not affected. This spelt a huge amount of inconvenience for us, as I was without Xisto, my email, my football news, Soccervision ... etc, thankfully my blog hosted at Xisto was still able to be accessed and I managed to publish posts just as I would do on normal days. As a result I was not able to access this wonderful forum for a good 3 days, losing 3 credit points for an unforeseen circumstance but no worries, I will make it up. The reason why I am able to access Xisto after 3 days because as we speak, there are divers at the bottom of the sea re-routing the connection to an alternative cable. At this point of time, 85% of the connection has been re-routed on 27th Decmeber 2006, albeit through a slower connection (at least for the internet service provider i am using). It will take a few more days to completely re-route the connections (hopefully another day would be sufficient) but for repairs to fully complete, it would probably take weeks. This made things very inconvenient users especially in Asia as this earthquake practically knocked out every single Asian country's access to an overseas website. This immediately brought to mind the thread which I read before in Xisto titled "What would you do if there was no internet", the situation was smacked in my face, I may not have been totally without internet but I could not surf 95% of the sites I visit everyday as a lot of it is based outside of Singapore. Here is the link to the thread: http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?shoic=6971= This sudden internet service disruption really had a major impact on users surfing the internet but also business all around Asia especially the stock market, we all know it is a very intensive real-time environment where we need constant internet availability to keep in touch with the latest share raise and drop. Banks and travel agencies also suffered a major drop as a lot of business transactions are done over the net with internet banking accounts as well as debit/credit cards. This is an indication of the over-dependence on technology and how a mere natural phenomenon can just knock out the infrastructure of a certain region. Imagine if the world was hit by a earthquake of a large scale that it would affect every single region in the world, we would be totally lost in touch with the internet. I am not angry at this earthquake knocking out our internet connection here in Asia but scared at the prospect of all the underwater cables being hit by a massive-scaled earthquake, what would happen to business, transactions and the economy on the whole then? And the prospect of us being without the internet could actually be a not-far hidden reality.
  11. Which type of hardware would you recommend? A PCI or a USB? Sure a USB would be much more convenient, I can easily stuff it into the port and everything would be much simpler instead of fixing and deal with the insides of the computer which I admit that I am a big failure in that department. I tried to create a DIY PC making use of old monitors, motherboards and CPUs, but it couldn't even work. So this just proves I am not much of a hardware person and will never be. If you ask me anything software-related, I might not feel so loss but the mere mention of the hardware terms which I have seen displayed in this thread, it is something which I am totally knocked away by. From this thread, I have learnt that without a TV Tuner, there is no way I can watch TV on my computer? Am I right to say this? There are external and internal TV Tuners, and everything should just come into place once I get the TV Tuner. My last doubt I have after reading the wonderful response you guys have given in this thread, if I buy a USB TV Tuner, is it any possible that I would be able to plug it into my Laptop and watch TV there instead of a static desktop? Instead of moving the set top box to suit the PC, I was thinking why not move the PC near to the set top box! Last of all, I appreciate the feedback and replies I got from you guys, you have really given a huge helping hand to a hardware noob like myself
  12. Every sport is bound to be physical, be it Kayaking, Swimming, Boxing, Football, Basketball. There is some physical attributes you have to train a lot for. I am playing football (not american football) a lot of people tend to distinguish football as american football and soccer as an entirely different thing. Football is the universal word to call the most popular sport and with this I hope I cleared some misunderstandings about football and soccer. As football is a very physical peer to peer sport where you get into contact with your opponent quite often. It is very important to train your upper body as well as your lower body. For starters, I carry weights and do lots of push ups. Most focusing on my shoulders; as we rely a lot on that in body challenges. On top of that, I do a lot of leg exercises to keep my leg strength up to run and hit the ball with as much power as possible. Anything not physical, it is technical, this comes with talent and practice. I don't really practice much so most of my skills on the ball are through imagination.
  13. I do not know whether the tv I want to watch is Digital or Analog. I have a cable set top box and I am just watching tv from it, is it considered an Analog or Digital content? Okay, so I would have to open my CPU casing and insert this card and if I do, how do I connect the cable from my set top box, seeing as the CPU is covered with the casing? or do I just need to find the right socket (PCI from what I understand) to put this card at the back of the CPU?
  14. Unless you are limiting yourself to web-based MMORPG, the only thing you can do is to make room in your computer to download these games. The space needed for this MMORPG are not a lot, a decent one could take maybe less than 1 gb, a good one with extensive graphics, maybe less than 1.5 gb. If you want a free MMORPG, you must be prepared to invest some hard disk space in it. With that being said and done, I recommend Silkroad Online, (http://www.joymax.com/silkroad/), it is based on a Chinese adventure, but it is available in English as well. I have been playing that for quite some time now but due to the constraint of work and lack of playing time, I play about 20 minutes before going to work everyday. And after several months, I am still stuck at level 28, which is a very slow progressive rate to level up. People who started the same time as me are already in their 40s. Basically it is a MMORPG which invovles a first person clicking basis, with the combination of skills, items ... etc, your main objective, to kill monsters and decide your route, to be a trader, thief or hunter. There is also a guild for you to join, mix items to make weapons, killing another player (of course that is a crime so be prepared for the consequences should you decide to take that course of action), as for the rest of the features, play it and try yourself. I am playing in the tibet server, so you can find me at orangejuicy as my nickname

  16. I am currently using the Sony Ericsson K800i , the simple reason why I got this phone was because of its camera and the design of the phone. On top of that, it has a very good imaging capabilities which was my sole reason why I got this phone
  17. I have just read the page, seen the pictures but sorry I still do not get your idea. I login using my username and password, I go to a house and select the one which I like and it displays me the number of credits, roommates, friends, assignments ... etc and that is the end of the sequence. What I do not understand is:Is this house a virtual community where I can select, for example members can choose which house they want to stay in and communicate with other members that way? And the credits, roommates, friends, assignments ... etc, what is all that about? I want to know the purpose of your site and I am afraid that visualization you have on your site is not really helpful as it has not made anything less complicated. When doing any programming, it is important what you intend to throw out and its purpose so as to avoid any mix ups or any forgotten component. Browser support is a very problematic issue, it can work well in IE 7, then bad in Firefox, Safari but well in Opera. So this is something which is going to be very difficult to solve. I don't understand how you are going to use C or other languages to do this unless you intend of making a software whereby people download and use it from there instead of accessing it from the web or something like that. I am most familiar with Java and I thought of using an applet but knowing the security concerns with them, I don't think it would be a very good idea. The tools for this project:1. HTML (The basic and standard markup language of the base of any website, a definite must)2. CSS (Styling of the page to make it as light weight as possible, an object-oriented style, something which is very important to any website)3. PHP (A server side technology, I am not too sure about this, I would need some guidance as I am most proficient in Java, I did not learn PHP at all)4. MySQL (Free database, what else can we ask for? We do not have any funds for Microsoft SQL)5. JavaScript (Validation on the client-side, definitely needed) but what about on the server side? Users can somehow stupidly disable Javascript and all validation would be gone from their side, we need the server to also validate. Those are the basic tools which we are using. But I am not sure whether that is the up-to-date standards, I know of the Ajax technology which would be very useful to any website. It is especially helpful for page refreshes without any additional loading on the user part. I think it is something very fascinating as well, I have not had the chance to actually do this myself but I have seen many Wordpress plugins to actually use it, especially the Shoutbox. Also Windows Live Mail along with Wordpress Admin are all using the Ajax technology. An external plugin to use this service? On what platform are we going to build it for? Firefox, IE ... etc, this would be a huge hassle and time consuming as we have to accommodate every browser and that is something we should not be doing and that is consuming unnecessary time. Furthermore, I have no knowledge whatsoever as how to create this browser-specific plugins
  18. From what I understand, I install this TV Tuner in my PC but which slot do I slot this TV Tuner card into? Is this the kind of tuner I should be getting? http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Lets say I get an internal TV Tuner, but where do I connect the cable from set top box to my PC. If the TV Tuner is installed inside the CPU, how can I connect it without opening my CPU? Just need these clarification, thanks
  19. A lot of these time travel hype is always built in cartoons, hero shows and even movies and that is why we are fascinated by it and think it could be a reality in the near future. I personally think it won't happen just yet, the logic behind it is absurb. As what day_armstrong said in his post; just think about it, you going to 15 years ago and then kill yourself, how does that align itself with reality? We find ourselves in a 4 dimension bounded world, unless we can break ourself out of this bounded world and find the means to travel into another dimension, I don't think this would happen. And history has proven that men given the test of time can develop one of the most amazing things which changes our lives. Take for instance the simple gadgets you see in today's world; telephone, television, computer ... etc, these basically restructured the entire world's perspective and direction. And in future, we will develop even further and become more advanced creating more detailed, sophisticated devices to aid our lives.
  20. I have read your entire thread, but I am sorry I do not quite understand what you are trying to do here. Are you trying to make a community so that first time internet users would be able to know which item is the best, which fits their needs and which 1 should be avoided? Things like that? Your idea is to build a community whereby it functions as the soul of 'Google' to be able to recognise which site is good which site is bad ... etc? I have always had the idea of helping in an open source development project, that would be one of the highest peaks a junior programmer like me could have on the internet world. I am working monday to friday now but I still make an effort to find time to learn about web standards, as we speak, I am looking at websites that teaches all about building a layout of a website without any tables. I am interested in finding more about this project, know more about what it does and how are we going to be going to build this project. Also perhaps become a contributor to this project. But the only problem standing in my way is the time I will allocate to this project, I am due to serve my nation in slightly more than 6 months and that is the time I have for this project. Please add me on MSN @ desirematters[at]hotmail.com and explain it to me ... thanks
  21. I think this attitude is already being implemented in many schools or at least it is on its way. For my school, which is an institute of higher learning, we are slowly moving to the age of the time whereby every student is to have a laptop with him/her. For our final year project, the school loaned us 2 laptops for every 5 persons. So it is on its way but of course there is going to be some problems such as the cost of it. Imagine the school paying for 100 000+ laptops at least for my school? It is going to cost them a bomb to be buying laptops at SGD 2000 each, so they will be paying SGD 200 000 000 in total to support the students. Astonishing amount really, I can only think this is impossible to imagine that the school is going to purchase all these laptops at 1 shot, they could do it in variation every summer. Lets not forget about the software licenses as well, there is bound to be software which the students have to use like VB.net, MSSQL, Office, Photoshop .... etc, and these licenses don't come cheap. So on the big picture, this will not be implemented straight away. What do you think?
  22. So lets say I have a cable set top box, what I need to watch the content on my PC is simply to install a tv tuner card into my PC? But the cable linking from my set top box, how do I connect it to my PC? Do I need anything else to link it up because from what I saw yesterday, there is any socket on the PC where I can connect the set top box to.
  23. I am afraid you are missing the point. I don't want to watch television through streaming, I want the content from my cable provider. I want to know how I can connect the cable set top box to watch it in my PC. I have seen people do it but I have no idea how to do it.
  24. Tried searching the forums, it either gave me irrelevant results and an invalid 1. This is urgent, does anyone know how I can watch television on my PC without buying a TV Tuner card? I hope to get your answer ASAP because I desperately want to watch a football match which is going to be shown in about 5 hours but my television has somehow broken down and I am pissed with the company for refusing to bring the new television in. Bunch of no-brain idiots who promised to deliver the television today only to give a stupid excuse of the vehicle breaking down.
  25. May I ask what you did to hide your playlist? Or how did you damage it? If you can't find any help within the resources they gave to you, the best bet you have is to email Microsoft directly, I never trusted Windows Media Player 11, so here I am still using Version 10 and Version 6 of IE, nothing from Vista is found in my PC. And I believe you should do the same, there is bound to be plenty of bugs and with Microsoft being Microsoft, you can't expect for anything better.
