  1. It's interesting (lame) how that guy Hovind bulks up his argument with completely irrelevant arguments. You think he'd at least stick the questions not related to evolution in the middle or the end to make his ignorance a little less obvious. He brings up questions that he can't answer himself -- unless you consider baseless theories of magic to be an answer. I (personally) can't explain where space and matter came from, but I'd rather admit it's something we don't know and should attempt to find out, then to give up research and say it was just created by God and never find any proof of that. If creation by a deity ever turns out to make sense in a modern world, I'll believe it. Back in ancient times there were less explanations for why things were so it's understandable religion was thriving. One thing I don't admire about some Believers, is that they have absolutely no interest in understanding the truth. I live to learn, even if the truth hurts, to discover and explore the world. To understand. Life, The Universe, and Everything (h2g2  ) is incredible, vast and almost unbelievable. Sometimes I'm amazed by many things, an insect, a plant, the stars. People and why they are the way they are (psychology). I discuss these things in awe of our incredible world with a God-believing friend and they have no interest in why things are the way they are, why would they evolve this way. Their only opinion is "God made it that way" -- boring!. That's not for me, I yearn for understanding with intelligent theories, not so far completely unprovable myths. Scientists/"Evolutionists" may or may not know the facts, yet, or ever, but at least they attempt to understand and their theories make some sense. Creationist theories aren't even logical and honestly, they're often delusional to non believers. At best, they're something like, "Well, look at the eye! It's too complex to have just evolved, obviously!" Well yeah, it is hard to believe, but what isn't hard to believe? Almost everything in the entire universe is hard to believe yet things happen, inventions are made, things are discovered, the impossible becomes possible, the unbelievable becomes reality. Do people ever stop to think how incredible and unbelievable life as we know it today would have been to humans 2000 years ago? Even 50 years ago. Yet all of these highly unbelievable things are explainable. There are logical explanations why why things are/work, and we can reproduce that. Not everything can be explained yet, but it's stupid to expect to understand everything "over night". We're only a relatively young species in the universe! At worst, their arguments are borderline insane. I know perfectly intelligent and sane people who believe in Bible stories that are as nothing but ludicrous. Believing in God is one thing, and atleast somewhat understandable. If you're going to claim that there were intelligent talking animals to have a conversation with and a man parting the sea and an innumerable number of even more highly unbelievable things (I can't remember) that people actually believe, PLEASE, HAVE SOME LOGICAL EXPLANATION! I could never believe in something so unbelievable when there is no explanation/proof, and when there are alternatives (evolution) that actually make sense. I don't know if evolution is 100% true fact, but it sure is a better argument to anyone with a truly open and unprejudiced mind. The thing that really bugs me is that it's egyptian religion and greek deities and roman what what not are all today almost unanimously accepted as being nothing but very interesting fictional stories. The religions of today are just as unbelievable and very very similar...... ? Hint hint..? Religious books are interesting and story-like for a reason, text books are for factual information. You don't open up a factual book on astronomy and see Mr Julius Jupiter the farmer magically being turned into a planet because he was a great man and his children who missed him so became satellites destined to play around him happily forever. You see, well this is Jupiter, 5th planet from the sun, has many satellites. In all these years of human history, there's never been logical proof of the existence of God or that he created everything. Gods and religions in history have been discredited and antiquated, nobody believes in them. I have a feeling the modern religions will soon (in the big picture) be extinct as well. More and more religious myths are revealed as false all the time. The sun revolves around the earth because God made earth special? FALSE! People believed Heaven was in the sky, yet man pierced the sky and entered space, surprise, no heaven. Where is Heaven? Ah, some where else I suppose! I welcome someone to prove it the existence of God and his hand in creation with real facts and not the argument that "Unexplainable(for now!!) = God did it!" I have an open mind. I have had no biased negative opinion of believers, I have been open to their arguments my entire life as my interest is in TRUTH and UNDERSTANDING, I'm no scientist, or an authority on the subject of our existence, I don't claim to know, I'm just an interested human being trying to understand, but good grief Creationists.. have a decent argument don't say "We don't get it, so God did it!" . Life is confusing and complex and we my never fully understand, but at the very least believe in something that makes SOME sense, not something that makes zero (negative?) sense and is believed by people ranting and raving about burning in the pits of hell and God wrecking havoc on entire countries for sinning.I guess my post wasn't too much about evolution vs creationism..but really what is there to say? Charles Darwin's theory of Evolution is a relatively young theory which happens to make a more than a little bit of sense and stands up to most arguments. Creationism is an ancient truckload of highly unbelievable, still completely unexplainable (except for "against" explanations mind you) and unprovable theories that curiously resembles a fairy tale story not unlike already extinct and unanimously unbelieved religious beliefs from ancient cultures. To me, it's rather obvious which theory a person with an open mind should be subscribing to.
  2. I'm not that great at writing lyrics. Are you writing about the beauty of all women, or one woman in particular? Is it about you? (I don't know if you're a man or woman). From what perspective is it being told? A woman feeling beautiful? Physically or personality wise? A man to a woman? You weren't too specific about what the songs about or even what type of song it should be. Sorrowful? Cheerful? Encouraging? It could be like, "I'm a great beautiful person inside.." or it could be a rap song along the lines of "yo yo I'm the Queen, you'll see my face on a magazine, I get picked up in a limousine" lol you didn't really say what kind of general song style you're going for, not that I'd be much of a help anyway..
  3. I'm trying out phpDesigner which looks pretty good, I have a few hopefully simple questions for the people who use it. Let's say I have an .HTML file that contains Javascript code. I set the highlighting to Intelligent highlighting. It highlights the html correctly, but it makes the < script > block of javascript completely one colour, orange. Is there any way to make it highlight the JavaScript block normally (different colours) or is the single colour the only way it does it ? Another question.. the Code Explorer on the right side, handy feature, but does it only work for PHP? There's no option to make it work with JS? What about Code Completion/Glossary for JS? The PHP one works good, but there is no JS code completion. Is there no download-able "extension" that adds that? I'd find it very helpful to have a little definition/syntax hint window pop up for javascript too.
  4. Looks like there are a lot of options out there. I tried Aptana Studio a while ago and it's a bit too big and bulky (slow) for what I need right now. I'm just learning not actually designing much so I just work with little bits of code for now. I'll try some of these out. I see nobody mentioned PSPad which is one I did try. It's a notepad-ish software. One thing I noticed about PSPad that it was really fast and supported many languages and it looked like a decent little editor to me. I'll try PHP Designer first ..and maybe the other ones too. Thanks!
  5. Ahh I see, thanks that was helpful. I figured that's what it was for. I just noticed that the softaculous website describes what all of the individual software does too. Pretty cool. Will have to try softaculous out.
  6. I'm going to sound like a complete fool, but what is all this stuff? I have no idea! It looks like an impressive collection of things and I'd be glad to try it out, but I haven't heard of 99% of them. What's cPanel? Are all the things in softaculous installer stuff that you can use on a webpage? I've had a forum before, is it like that? Software to run on web servers? I'm very new to all this web design stuff, and the softaculous web page is greek to me. lolPlease, enlighten this newbie!
  7. I'm looking for a web design text editor that can be used with almost everything. Something light weight, fast to load and run, nothing that builds a full fledged webpage for you by pointing and clicking ( a la dreamweaver), just a notepad type software. When I mean it can be used with any language I mean it can check the syntax/colourize things correctly depending on if you're using php or js or html etc.Anything out there that can do it all, so to speak? I tried PHP Expert Editor which works okay, but when I wanted to try out some java script it couldn't understand what I was doing and sometimes the colour it gave text was wrong. Not a huge deal there but when you're learning the colours and syntax check help make sure things look right.. :(Thanks
  8. Hey Asomormridul. I have a few suggestions for you. First check your Task Manager (CTRL ALT DELETE) and click the Processes tab and and sort the list by "CPU". Look over it for a few seconds and see if there are any "Image Names" or software that are going crazy and using up all the CPU. When your CPU is being used, it really slows things down. It's normal if you are using a cpu intensive software like a game or editing software but sometimes a buggy program will keep running in the background. There shouldn't be too much using up CPU, for example on mine right now there are only FireFox which fluctuates betwene about 0-30 which is normal. If anything is above 80 or 90 and you aren't actively using it, you should investigate that. I've installed some things that work fine, but then out of nowhere will freeze up (in the background, you dont notice) and start sucking up the CPU and my computer will slow to a crawl. This could slow your internet down. Don't worry about SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS.. it just tells you how much FREE CPU you have, ie what's not benig used. The number should be quite high. This might not be the problem, and it probably isn't, but it's a good thing to check just incase and could identify some virus or spyware that escaped your scan.Make sure you have about 1gb atleast of free hard disk space. When I go below 500 my computer slows down.Try defragging regularly as well, there are software out there to Defrag every night and there may be a noticeable speed increase, there was for me.Registry cleaners don't seem to help my computer, and sometimes they mess things up. I don't use them nor trust them anymore but some people think they work great. It's up to you there. It may just be your internet being used by something you're not aware of. I don't know if you have broadband but I have dialup and there are blinking lights on my task bar whenever my internet/modem is being used. Exit out of anything you use suchas Browsers, Web messengers, etc and anything that you know uses the internet. Your modem lights should not be blinking very much. If they are, you may have something slowing things down. Could be anti virus updating in the background, could be a virus/spyware (worst case). I often use this quick little check when websites are loading slower than usual.A great thing to recommend for speeding up your computer is reformatting it and starting over. It might take some work re-installing all your things, but there's probably no better way to fix things up. I find that computers just get slow as they get older, it may be because of the accumulation of junk in the registry I'm not sure but reformatting usually brings the computer back to the speed it was like when you got it.If you are unsure whether hte problem is your computer or the website, you could always try other websites, there are some that can check your internet speed if you search on google for them. Good luck speeding up your pc
  9. I haven't hardly seen the sun in weeks.. I don't remember what a nice summer day is like. Rain, Clouds, rain, Clouds, rain, T-Storm, rain, Clouds. It sure is humid too. Happy (early) Canada Day to all the Canadian 'trappers' out there ...!

    Hi All!

Holy cow. This is one popular introduction thread, I wasn't expecting it to be so long when I scrolled down to the reply box! Some of them are left unreplied for days.. anyway hey jullaby! Welcome to Xisto! Looks like you've got all the necessary info already so I'll skip that. Cool interests you have, I love cartoons! I like animation too. I'm not so good at making it, but I enjoy looking at it. Did you sign up for web space? What are your plans for a web page? I registered here for web space, then $20 myDollars (?) later I haven't figured out what I need to put on it.. :excl:I guess you watch sponge bob, but what other cartoons do you like? I always liked looney tunes -- I'm a lover of the classics I guess
  11. My password is 8 characters and it's just simple with a few letters and numbers. If you find you're really stuck, as a last resort I could try registering your email address for you, you can easily change the password to something else when you're logged in.
  12. Hey Lastelement. I registered on that website a while ago and my short password is nothing too complicated. Perhaps there's a problem with your browser? Maybe you have something blocked with an ad blocker or script blocker, or have something turned off. I don't know, maybe try another browser or something. Anyway, Just letting you know that your password probably isn't unacceptable and there must be a problem somewhere.
  13. I'm surprised they hooked you up to all that stuff. It definitely wasn't like that for me. Makes me wonder what kind of dentists we have here.. I did read that my province was equal to a third world country in some statistics lol. It's hard to believe all they did for me was pull my teeth out and send me out the door and you had a wheel chair and heart monitors and everything.. lolGlad to hear you survived though, did they give you a present? I got a "ninja tooth" sticker! Oooh, aaah. Beat that.Crushing a pill and mixing it with water works? I tried that and the crushed pill stuff just sunk to the bottom, maybe it depends on which one..
  14. I remember the 'ol South Park Avatar maker, or one of them atleast. It's been around for a few years. I knew this guy who made an entire webpage out of south park avatars- about 50 different people including me represented on it, it was kind of weird lol.
  15. I'm interested in creating a Firefox extension or two, but I have no idea where to start. I know that you can 'unzip' the files and they contain java script and xul (whatever xul is.. I have some reading to do lol) but that's it. The only tutorial I found was based on FF 0.9 or something and that seems a bit out dated and when loading the examples there are errors. Any extension developers out there? Where do I start? I have a teeny bit of programming experience and I'm learning Javascript right now, I thought it'd be a good way to apply what I learn in javascript by making some simple FF extensions.

    Google Bomb

Hey iworld200, this is a new term for me as well. Thanks to the ever helpful Wikipedia, I've found out that a google bomb is a method of raising the ranking of a page on google. There is a whooooole lot more information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb so check it out.
  17. CANADA Are there any Canadians on this forum? I see people from all parts of the world but haven't seen any from Canada? Come out of your igloos! I'm from Eastern Canada, by the way. Some interesting facts about Canada: Our flag has a Maple Leaf. Our national animal is the Beaver. Canada day is July 1 Our national anthem is "O' Canada" which is commonly sung in English & French. Here are some more facts that I'll enclose in quotes
  18. Wow! Great theory. I'm a strong believer in this on. Okay, no I'm not, but it was an interesting and silly read I hope you don't really believe this though, but I doubt you do.
  19. I always thought he looked more normal before all his surgery and at the time of his death he was looking almost inhuman. I guess he must have had that mental problem where he was obsessed with either liking his appearance so much he wanted to perfect it or hating it so much he wanted to look completely different and unnatural. I'd be interested to know if he had great confidence in his original looks or if he felt low self esteem. I think it would bring comfort to a person to change their appearance because it's almost not you if it's all fake and surgically altered, almost like wearing a mask, even if it's a scary mask (and MJ's face was looking really weird at the end). Maybe MJ wasn't trying to look good, he just felt the need to "erase" his old look to cope with his low self esteem. To some people, I think it'd make them feel better to look very odd, as long as it's not looking like you (the face you grew up with).I don't know MJ though, but one things for sure, I think he developed some obsession and should have went for psychiatric help regarding his desire for surgery.
  20. I think this would be a bad thing. I guess you could argue that it'd be a good thing if we could all understand each other and stuff but it'd be pretty boring. I think other languages are fascinating, and they add to the culture, not to mention I love women with accents.. .
  21. Check out CNN (the best write up I've seen on the subject) or some other source for this breaking news as I'm not allowed to quote an entire article. I didn't listen to Michael Jackson much but he's quite an important figure in our culture so I guess it's quite a shock that he died. My parents loved his music and I heard a lot of him growing up. Despite his notoriety he seemed to have quite a few fans that believed he was a good guy. RIP Michael Jackson. Oh and despite the quote above saying CNN hasn't confirmed it, in an update his death was confirmed.
  22. I haven't seen Transformers 2 but I didn't like the first one so I'm a bit hesitant to watch Revenge of the Fallen. I don't know, I guess it wasn't my type of movie. I like science fiction and Transformers/robots are kind of cool, but it was just too, I don't know, something. What does Megan Fox looking hot have to do with Robots from another planet battling it out on Earth? Why does one of the robots talk like a rapper? I know the movie's explanation, but still, the whole movies just weird. I know it's supposed to be a fun movie, but it wasn't much fun for me. A friend told me to watch it and I could barely get through the movie and it took me three days to finish it. That's about all I remember from the mostly forgettable Transformers 1.To be fair, my friend thought Transformers was the best thing ever and got all mad when I said it was bad.. so I guess everyone's different.Roger Ebert has some pretty harsh reviews of the Transformers Franchise, it's not that I really disagree with his review (on Transformers movies), but he could be a little less sensationalistic. He's just looking to be controversial by being so offensive lol.
  23. I have an nVidia GeForce 5200. Even if there was 'no' difference in anything but the power, an un-updated driver could cause a HUGE difference. When I had Sim City 4, everything was invisible and looked awful. I updated the drivers on nvidia.com and it fixed the problem. I think these video cards are a bit old though.. my 5200 couldn't run very graphic intensive games years ago and the game you're playing is from 2009. It's a sad fact that you half to buy expensive video cards to play half the games on the market especially if you want them to look like they were designed (high quality graphics)
  24. This sounds pretty good.. I like Asian food but I often mess it up because I have no idea what it's supposed to be like in the end.. Do you have any more recipes? I really like to read about food
  25. Sorry about taking a while to reply to this, I enjoyed reading your little lesson on meditation kasperoony. It made me want to give it a try so I think I will some time. I'll let you know how it goes.Abby: Walking meditation, eh? I've never heard of that. Sounds kind of like the pranayama breathing exercises. Do you walk-meditate with your eyes closed? Wham! Right into a pole.. not so relaxing.I love to sit by the water but there are so many mosquitoes this time of year! The only time I can sit by the water is when there are gale force winds to blow the darn things away! Sometimes I bring a book and I can't even turn the pages it's so windy.. lolAnyone ever meditate in the snow? It was back in the winter when I tried meditating for the first time, I bundled up in my parka and sat in 4 feet of fluffy snow and tried to relax in the great outdoors. That's life in Canada for you I guess.. :angel:Anyway, Anuloma Pranayam looks pretty easy to try, so I guess I'll try it right now!
