  1. i had them on my personal site on ye-ancient geocities before, but have since abandoned it. i particularly loved the color renditions i had of my girlfriend, had it online too before. the source image was her face in color, scanned to measure onscreen as if it's life-size. the resulting ascii art i've rendered was "life-like", that's all i can best describe it. and because i found that it was easy to recreate the same result (or make better ones) with the ascii art program i had before, i didn't bother making backups of those. and that was with an old ascii art program. and after all these years, i'm sure there are better apps with better results than what i had before. maybe i should google for some freewares again.
  2. @Forbez: just check alerts and notices forum for the nitty-gritty details of this free domain offer (for HOSTED members only, so get hosted here first, for those who are not hosted and reading this). i think the process as stated there will suffice to answer your question. as for members who have already availed of this offer, i'm not aware if there is a list somewhere. @Flakes: where have you been? anyway, the free domain offer was launched MARCH 30, 2007. you have just missed the post all this time.
  3. yeah, sorry to burst your bubble too mermaid711, but jimmy is correct. it would take only minutes, and sometimes just seconds to create ascii images such as those. actually depends on the simplicity or complexity of your image. i've been toying with ascii art a long time ago myself, and then i lost interest with them after the initial dose of novelty faded on me. you simply need the right software for ascii art, so you can be satisfied with your results. there are even "colored" versions of these ascii artsy-thingy, with the ascii characters mimicking the colors of the original source image. that was too heavy on resources though, and the html output (coded as to simulate text/character colors) was exceedingly big too, and not entirely suitable for online viewing especially for slow internet connections.
  4. as you wish. glad you have it all sorted out by now.
  5. wanna try some google recipes stamped with the google seal of approval? check out this page for three mouth-watering dishes: Edamame Hummus, Thai Red Curry Dragon Fly Noodles and Dungeness Crab Cakes w/ Black Pepper-Lemon Aioli. if you are into salads, you can likewise try the Green Goddess Dressing preparation looks easy enough, and is not time-consuming either. perhaps you may want to make substitutes for some ingredients which are not readily available in your kitchen, or you can shop for them in advance. afterwards, you can brag about that these are samples of what google employees enjoy in their workplace.
  6. friendly note to coybot: use the signature option in your profile to include your sign-out message (like your name, coybot, which ends your posts). you can manage your signature by clicking on the MY CONTROLS link in the menu on top of this page. that way, you avoid getting warned about it, as trivial as it may be - since signing out is frowned upon with the kind of credits system we have here. :lol:the minimum credits to get hosted are deducted one-time only. after you get approved for hosting, you build your hosting credits from scratch on a one-is-to-one ratio (1 hosting credit = 1 hosting day).
  7. welcome to Xisto, coybot. always a pleasure to see new user signup on our site, and be willing to contribute in our forums, and get hosted at the same time. as you're still a beginner, familiarize yourself with the forum rules and terms of service here: http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?actE=01&HID=18 get fired up with the discussions which proliferate here. just browse the forum index and we know you'll find many which will excite you enough to continue posting here. see you around, and hope you can join our hosted group soon enough.
  8. you should have no problem accessing Xisto member sites unless some malware is hijacking your browser (as you've stated, with the redirect to google you're experiencing). what browser are you using? IE? try to run an antispyware program to clean your system.you won't also see a "suspended" notice, since the sites you mentioned above and you're trying to access are not suspended at the moment. when the members running those sites run out of hosting credits, that's the time the "suspended" notice will be displayed on users who visit those sites.
  9. strictly-speaking, a UFO is simply this: an UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT. that being said, UFOs abound in everyday life. you see some strange object hovering, flying, moving in the sky and you can't seem to figure what it is, that's a UFO. it can even just be a weird and unusual display of lights or flashes which defy logical explanation, and some people call it a UFO (more in line though is the not so commonly-used term UAP [unidentified aerial phenomena]). soliciting the internet forums as to it's truth will just provide you with more questions. even though some of the previously reported cases of UFO sightings are deemed explainable by the scientific community as aerial military test vehicles or weather balloons or just a confluence of natural light and/or reflected light (albeit unexplainable/unidentified at first), there is by far a larger number of cases which have mystified technical and scientific explanations. perhaps they come from outside our solar system, who knows!? it is not an impossibility. other times, these are just simply hoaxed, or as with some film and photos presented as evidence, just "artifacts" of the medium (camera).
  10. i've been meaning to test this MySQLDumper, but i haven't got to as of yet. just keeping it handy in my bookmarks for now. worth a try, if you want to give it a spin for your 100MB database. http://www.mysqldumper.net/ i have underlined the relevant feature in above quote. that should work, i think. download here. report back with your experience, so we can learn from each other, alright?
  11. spam is an industry nowadays, and i don't see the volume of spam on my inbox to be drastically reduced with the incarceration of one spammer. it's a surefire moneymaker for some devious, hustling, racketeering individuals out there, and it is an online pestilence we are bound to have in our inboxes for generations to come. having thrown the judicial books on him would hardly make a dent on spam reaching us. who knows, when in prison, he'll still have access to the internet. AND he can still resume his spamming activities from inside. i hope he goes "unplugged" to the net when he is serving his sentence though, never to see nor touch any electronic device while inside.
  12. WHAT!!!??? NO CHAIRS!!!??? (sorry, i just can't resist it! ) anyway, that's a pretty elaborate design you got there, Ao)K-General. and it would require a lot of slices to reduce the size of the page, otherwise it would end up as a heavy template if too much solid design is left as it is. i hope albus is up to the task (as this request is also slash coding to work with nettek specifically). good luck mate, we know you can do it!
  13. what forum i'm trying to search for is just something with the rudimentary features as found in all other forums, AND lightweight as well (for bandwidth considerations). i'm actually happier with a lo-fi version, just as found in IPB (click this to see a lo-fi version of this page) -- but without paying a dime. i wish all forums can look that way, devoid of the bells and whistles of themes and templates which deviate people's attention from the topic at hand. makes reading a breeze too. design should enhance and complement user experience, but with some forums, i just don't feel that way; sometimes, it makes me just wanna leave that discussion. ;P (mind you, i'm not blaming the forum script, i blame the designers ). smf and phpbb, i've tried previously with my previous forum communities, but i have lost interest in them with the "bloated" (at least for me) scripts they have. though the last two served me well for my purpose, there are better ones out there. anyway, the closest i found, with the basic features i wanted (and then some) are punbb and vanilla. good thing both also have a burgeoning community which provides ample support for their users. integrating them with a CMS or blog-system also is widely documented online. mybb looks fine too, although i haven't tested it yet unlike punbb and vanilla. i wouldn't be going for IPB and vbulletin anytime soon, because of the fees involved in procuring and using them.
  14. a tale to remember, especially for people who skip meals just to lose weight. the same thing happened to me twice in my life so far, once when i was in high school years ago, and one just this year. not that i am trying to lose weight; i have an average body weight. the feeling of nausea, and signs of fainting and blurred vision are just not a good experience for me. but all due the same cause, of skipping meal for that day due to forgetfulness (life sometimes is fun, i tend to forget to eat.) both times, when i started to feel wobbly and my world is starting to sway, i just had to sit down right where i was standing. it's not a good thing to be moving about when you are about to faint. just calm yourself while sitting down, breathe consciously, and don't care if everybody about is staring at you. try to pop some sweets too (a candy perhaps), as it can help, if no other food you can easily eat to revive your strength is readily available. when you are stable enough to move, and the feeling of nausea and fainting has passed, then get yourself a full meal.
  15. nice share, hippiman. i wonder why nobody hasn't made a reply yet to your post, with such an interesting and useful service like this. i may one day give it a try. the only gripe i have with it though is the recent change they had on how they serve public file downloads. i've been perusing their blog (http://mydatabus.blogspot.de/), and found that change. i do understand their move, to attract eyeballs on their site, and it's reasonable enough since it's a free service anyway. but the "old" way of "direct linking" (as they describe it) would have been better. anyhow, their paid PRO service is in itself affordable enough also (which allows "direct linking"), and for an annual fee not exceeding $10 for double the storage space and bigger file size limit with no advertising to boot, it's a winner.
  16. where's CALC? and yes, it stands for CALCULATOR. can be pretty useful, at least in my case, whenever i am in front of my PC and i don't have time to go scrounging around the room for a calculator. i can usually do mental math, but i still double-check it with a calculator just to make sure. for web developers, you can make use of if you're making a layout of your site and you want to calculate how you want your site elements spread out on your template, up to the smallest pixel. at least it's what i use it for.
  17. more info on wiki: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  18. i'm using portable firefox... will have to wait an update from portableapps.com for this version. hope it does not break any of *MY* own set of required addon extensions, when i finally get an auto update.
  19. still agonizing with your database? you can DROP the whole database and start from scratch if need be. and to give you a walkthrough on databases, here is a guide on Mysql Database Setup:http://forums.xisto.com/topic/6665-mysql-database-setup-setting-up-mysql-database-guide-to-use-mysql-database-in-your-site/ it's as plain as can be explained already with that, you just need to follow the steps correctly. and next time you encounter any errors, kindly include the error (via a screenshot or a verbatim/word-for-word recap of the error) so we can better assist you with the problem.
  20. luv the new ones, BH! how about something for wikipedia too, if it can be done of course?
  21. zak92, while waiting for the "latest" release of OSticket (whenever that may be... it has been counting a year or two since a "new" version is available, i believe), you may want to look at eTicket. http://www.eticketsupport.com/ apparently, some osticket users who have been waiting (im)patiently for the "official" release of the osticket script instead formed a team to develop further the discontinued application. just that it now bears the name eTicket. it is osticket, PLUS fixes, mods, and easy upgrade option from where the previous old product stopped. same license agreement, and is likewise an open source project. if osticket is the thing you really want, then just take a look at eticket as the latter just branched from the former. i figure you'll get the same features you need, with minor changes and most importantly, fixes. otherwise, you may just have to wait for the "real" osticket to "wake up" from it's deep slumber. but then again, if you **still** want osticket, with all its unpatched flaws identified with the last released version (1.3.1), you can download it as attached here. just understand the risks you're taking with that version. as for fantastico, just cross your fingers that this will soon be sorted out.
  22. only an admin can answer this for certain, if there really is a 10-credit limit per post. the hosting credits system is opaque's code, and confirmation can only come from him, i think. never encountered this reported before. if ever, it could be forum-based (some with limit, some with no limit). or it is hard-coded to affect all forum sections, as a spam safety measure. just to protect the credit system. but let's wait till he stumbles on this topic.
  23. you trying to run this on Xisto servers? you need to review your $db name. after you create a database with a name you assign (as you indicated in your case, loginsystem), your cpanel username is prefixed into that. hence, the proper db name the server will recognize, and which should appear in your configuration/settings file is something which looks like this: yourcpanelusername_loginsystem. another thing is this: having your loginsystem.sql reside on the server itself will not be automagically recognized as your database. go back to your phpmyadmin control panel, and select your loginsystem database from the dropdown menu (if you don't have your loginsystem db yet, click MySQL icon from cpanel first to create one). after selecting your database, click on the SQL tab, then copy and paste your SQL code (the one you have in your loginsystem.sql) on the form provided, then RUN it (press GO ). after this, you will be greeted with this: "Your SQL query has been executed successfully" which means you can then congratulate yourself. you can then proceed to test your script, and hopefully you can now connect successfully to your database.
  24. ghostrider got his password back. and his site is back up as it should be from the looks of it. flagged as resolved, hereby closed.
  25. any votes for INTEL? can they now be classified as EVIL after this latest spat with Negroponte and the One-Laptop-Per-Child (OLPC) project? they undermine the concept, then they now copy it! (Intel has it's Classmate version as shown below, to compete with the OLPC project). so a thumbs-down to INTEL. TRULY EVIL in my dictionary. btw, i'm mighty happy with my AMD machine for years now.
