  1. Hey all! Just thought I'd ask everyone on the forum whether they use (or prefer to use) contact lenses or glasses. Here's my story - After discovering that I was near-sighted while taking a visual test for my driver's license, I went to the optometrist and bought my first pair of glasses. Since then, I've been wearing glasses (and going through several different frames) for about 15 years until I finally decided to wear soft contact lenses. Certainly, there are pros and cons to each. Glasses are (overall) less expensive since you only have to replace them every five years or so and they can protect your eyes from anything that may enter your eyes by accident. Not to mention that it's just easier to take your glasses on and off. Contact lenses can easily hide the fact that you have an eye problem, but they can get expensive in the long run - for example, cleaning fluid and always having to buy new (2-week) disposable soft lenses. The other disadvantage is that they're easy to lose. It's not so bad if you have 2-week or one-day lenses, but what if you lose your hard lenses? The other option, of course, is to get laser eye surgery (LASIK) and fix the problem forever. A friend of mine did this a few years ago and it worked out really well. So...Do you use contact lenses or glasses...or did you ditch both of them in favour of laser eye surgery?
  2. I think I saw this debate before...but I'll throw in my two cents. I have Dreamweaver MX on my machine and it's great! There's a lot you can do and you can integrate other Macromedia applications (Flash/Fireworks/Freehand/ColdFusion) into it to potentially make an amazing website!
  3. I just downladed and installed Google Earth for free. It certainly blew me away with what it can do. Type in an address/place and you "fly" to your location. Not only that, you can create driving routes from point A to point B, view landmarks, buildings, etc. in detail. Really cool stuff.
  4. I have to admit the new iPods look very impressive. Apple just keeps developing their line of iPod players. I recently just bought an iPod shuffle - nice and small, can carry it anywhere. I figure sometime in the future I'll get either the mini or the new iPod...mainly for the photo viewing feature, just in case I can't fill up the space on music alone.
  5. Welcome aboard, Steve! Hope you enjoy your stay here and you can come back often. Lots of great people and you'll have no trouble finding a topic or thread to comment on. Great to hear that you're a big hockey fan. Which New York team do you cheer for? The Rangers or the Islanders?Anyway, have fun and I'll see you on the boards!
  6. This is the first time I've heard that a "5th generation" I-Pod is in the works. With Apple, anything is possible. As somebody else mentioned, the new iPods now have colour screens and can store photos. What's next? Who knows. 80 gigs would be nice, but I honestly can't see myself filling up all that space. Heck, I'd be hard-pressed to fill up 20 GB. All I can say at this point is "Wait and see..."
  7. Hmm..sounds like a tall order. Maybe if you made several posts about summer camp in the one day you have internet access, that may be enough to give you at least a few more days worth of credits. I wish you the best of luck. It's not impossible, but it certainly sounds like it may require some time on the forms.

    Hi...

Welcome aboard, cerb! I'm from Canada, but I currently live in Japan. I just visited your blog, and I'm impressed on your steady progress in building your own bass. Anyway, you'll find lots of topics and threads that will suit your interests, so I think that building up credits for your website shouldn't be a problem. Hope you enjoy your stay and I'll see you on the boards!
  9. In my field, I generally use the computer to make lesson plans and materials. Of course, I also search the internet for activity ideas if I'm drawing a blank as far as educational games are concerned. Apart from that, I play music, create graphics (if time permits), read the news and do some tweaking to my website....oh, and of course, post here on the forums.
  10. Welcome aboard, James666 (or should I say "Dr. Evil" - with your plans for world domination). Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay and keep yourself active on the forums whenever you can. Trust me - you've found the right place for free hosting!
  11. You could try Web-O-Rama or FirstPage 2000 as an alternative for Notepad. For a list of other Free HTML editors, check out The Free Site. Hope this helps!
  12. Welcome to the Trap 17 community and I hope you enjoy your stay here. Actually, it's not that hard to activate your account. There are many topics and threads that you may be interested in. If there isn't one, then you can start up a topic yourself...as long as it's not spam.I have a hosting account here too, and I'm at least trying to maintain - and slowly build my hosting credits in case I may be away from the computer for an extended period of time.
  13. Welcome to the community. Hope you enjoy your stay here and become active on the boards. There is a lot of great people who can help you out with anything - whether it be computer-related or not. I'm sure you've already found some topics/threads that are to you liking. I'm originally from Canada but I'm currently living in Japan, so if you have any Japan-related questions you want to ask me, feel free to send me a PM. I've been a member for about 3 months (and counting) and I have hosting, as well. Cheers!
  14. Welcome aboard, Jacky! Hope you enjoy you stay here and take part in the forums whenever you can. There's lots of topics and threads to choose from, so I don't think you'll have any problem building up your credits.See you later!
  15. I would suggest The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and Gulliver's Travels by Jonathen Swift. Both are great books that are entertaining to read. When I was doing my Bachelor's degree in university, I read them when I took a Children's Literature course and a British Literature course.
  16. It depends on where I live (or stay). In Canada, I often frequented channels like A & E (Arts and Entertainment), TSN (The Sports Network...or should I say "Toronto Sports Network"), CTV Sportsnet, Bravo!, MuchMoreMusic (and sometimes, Much Music), Life Channel, Discovery Channel, Toronto1, CityTV (with my favourite Great Movies) several British programs on PBS and/or TV Ontario and CBC. Apart from that, most of the stuff on TV is not worth watching. As such, cable TV can be summed up in a Bruce Springsteen song - "57 Channels (and Nothin' on)".In Japan, there's not much of a selection on most of the TVs...unless have have a digital broadcasting service or SkyPerfect TV. So there's pretty much variety shows, game shows, news programs, anime shows, and not a whole lot more.
  17. Not a bad sig, but the quoted text needs to stand out more. As for a good graphics program, I reccommend the GIMP or Image Forge (both of them are free). If you have the money, you could get Photoshop or Fireworks.
  18. Out of the four layout, I liked number 1 the best. Fairly simple, although the text in the navigation menu is a bit small. Apart from that, I'm glad to see you've kept the same colour scheme. Layouts 3 and 4 also look very promising (at least the background has some potential).
  19. I started out with Package 1 as well. I thought I would start small and see what pages/add-ons I would need. As it turned, I received a warning message saying I was close to the 20 MB limit...after a built up some more credits and went for Package 2. Now I should have enough space for my galleries, forums, guestbooks, etc. I'm currently trying to at least maintain my current number of credits, just in case I may be away from the computer for a while.
  20. Wow! Just came across your thread. I just started to use WordPress myself. So far, I'm very impressed with what you can do with it. Before then, I used Blogger (which is also a very good blogging service, and it's great for beginners who want to start their own website but have no background in HTML).Anyway...back to WP. I have 1.5 and I love using the Themes (and the plug-ins), and I hope to create my own someday to add a more personal stamp to my blog.

    Hello

Hi Ryan, and welcome to the community! Hope you enjoy your time here on the forums. Hope you come back often and check out some of the other topics and threads here. I'm originally from Canada, but I'm cyrrently living in Japan. If you have any questions related to Japan, feel free to send me a message. See you on the boards!
  22. I would like an application where you sould store userids and passwords as well. Apaprt from that, some of the mobile phones in Japan allow you to view PDF files. I think it would be neat to have that. Just out of curiosity, do any of the mobile phones in North America have digital cameras in them? I know they've had them here in Japan for a few years now.
  23. Quite a collection of sigs you created there. All of them look very good, although the text is hard to read in some of them. Were all of them made with Photoshop, by the way?
  24. The most common fonts used on a website is Verdana and Times New Roman, as they're the easiest to read. You're more than welcome to visit and download from the free font websites, but I doubt it my show up on the browser.
  25. I kinda forgot what the first CD or cassette I bought for myself, but I remember the first LP (that's right, as in vinyl) I bought. If was Drastic Plastic by Be-Bop Deluxe (of which one of the members was the nusical genius Bill Nelson), a band from the UK. The record was released in 1978 under the Harvest label.
