Simple Php Page Not Working? why? I cant figure out.
jlhaslip replied to Baniboy's topic in Programming
Xpress, thanks for the backup... nice catch on the braces for the array output. I was in a hurry this morning, I guess...baniboy,See if you can find a book by Larry Ullman in your Local Library. Excellent resource to learn from. He has several books on php/mysql to study. Try to find the second edition of "PHP for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide". -
Simple Php Page Not Working? why? I cant figure out.
jlhaslip replied to Baniboy's topic in Programming
The first code section looks good. It is a simple form that uses the POST method to supply a value to the processing page. In the second code section, you can't reference the variable named "$name". You must reference the $_POST['name'] variable instead. Try this: (not tested) <?php$answer = "Mike";if ($_POST[name] == $answer){ echo "You've won, $_POST[name] !";}else { echo "You aren't $answer, you didn't win";}?> Edit: tested and working. Changed the prints to echo statements. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
Help With Php I have scripts written, but cant run

Upload the site files to the public_html folder in the file manager of your Cpanel. -
The Themes are quite easy to install. Simply copy the default Theme files into a new folder and then adjust the CSS, etc as you require for the new Theme. Then, select the Theme you want from inside the ACP. Simple. You can have multiple Themes loaded at all times, hut only one is the Default. Most Themes have been able to move along with the versions as they are released quite easily. The core of the package has had very few structural changes, so mostly it is CSS that needs adjusting for a Theme. Very high on the list of new, desired features is a Mod Installer. Hopefully it will be ready for the next release (1.09) at least as a beta version. And fully released in AEF 1.10. At least that is the current plan, subject to Developer availability. If you know any Developers looking for a project tot tackle, the AEF project could sure use them. And Language Translators, too... always need Translators as the new releases are made public...

Check out an AEF Forum with an enabled/fixed position Shoutbox here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? Go to the Admin Control Panel > Core Settings > Shoutbox Settings and tick the "Enable Shoutbox" setting Then go to Themes > Theme Settings > Shoutbox Tab and tick the "Fix Shoutbox" setting The Shoutbox needs to be enabled in the ACP Core Settings for the Shoutbox to be allowed via the Quick Links drop-down. To have the Shoutbox "fixed" to the top of he page, it needs to be "fixed" in to position by the Theme Settings. Of course, you can also adjust some of the other information by changing the shoutbox settings in the ACP > Core Settings > Shoutbox Settings, like the number of shouts available for display, their Shout Life, the use of bbcodes, etc.

Indeed, as tramp points out in his reply above, the universal.php needs to be able to write to the file so the permissions require chmod 777 on install or when you are altering certain settings inside the Forum software (Core Settings in the Admin Control Panel), but the normal usage of the software could be set at 655 for the most part. It is a good idea to revert the settings to 655 just in case there is a security issue on the Forum. Keeping the settings at 777 is not an issue by itself, but the file could be affected if the Software installation is violated. The Forum is MORE secure with the 655 settings. The 777 permissions alone is not an un-secure setting. There has been only one major security instance involving the AEF software and it was patched with AEF 1.07 by uploading and replacing a single file. No sites were hacked or damaged under that security issue. It was discovered by a Security Audit and immediately patched without a public awareness of its presence. Members are urged to upgrade to the newest version, AEF 1.08, which includes the security patch and several new features and enhancements. More new stuff coming in AEF 1.09, expected soon. Calendar event implementation, new bbcodes, new Themes and other mods to the core will be included. Watch for them.

Language Translators Required to assist with AEF Forum Software
jlhaslip replied to jlhaslip's topic in Web Hosting Support
Excellent, I will PM you some information asap. Glitch in the system someplace. Opaque is working on it. I lost $16.00, too. *edit* Okay, thank you for your offer to Translate AEF into your chosen language. A tutorial for Translators can be found at http://www.anelectron.com/board/index.php?amp;tpg=1%23p7615 Please note that the Tutorial refences an old version of the files. The most current version can be found at http://anelectron.com/ by downloading the AEF 1.08 Version. Language files are the ones inside the /languages/ folder. Simply copy all the files into a new Folder and alter the l() strings into your chosen language. Any questions, contact me directly, at the AEF Forums or at the Xisto Forums. Thanks again. -
Google free web templates and have lots of time on your hands. There are a bazillion Free Template sites around.

If you speak French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Swedish or German as your first language, or a close second, there is a need for Translators at the AEF Forum.AEF is a Forum Software using new Ajax features and has currently been released in its 8th version. Now that UTF-8 is supported fully, we have a need for language packs in French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Swedish and German. Or any other language, too. :)Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Question On Mycents seem to be stuck
jlhaslip replied to Echo_of_thunder's topic in Web Hosting Support
reported to Opaque. Please sit tight until he reviews and advises. -
No, you need to use the information provided in the email to access your FTP or Cpanel to upload the account. DO NO USE the "manage" account link you quote. That is for the old system. Once you have received the email with all the account information, you will be able to upload your files and present your site to the world. Enjoy!

try looking around at http://www.oswd.org/ for some cool designs. They are pretty nice and editting to add your banner, etc is allowed.

And i think Opaque is still "tweaking" the system as well.No worries from here. I have faith in Opaque's coding skills.
