  1. The AdBlock button link didn't work in my post. Oh well. I haven't had any problems with blocked forms, but the content blocker is easily disabled if it causes a problem on a certain webpage.
  2. I had no idea it was so easy to get ad blocking in Opera. I had been waiting for a loooong time for no reason. Windows users, download http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and save it into XP: C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Opera\Opera\ Vista/7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\ Linux users, it's simple too. Open up your favourite terminal emulator, type in: wget -P ~/.opera/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ --no-check-certificate Or just save it to ~/.opera somehow. BONUS: Add a button to Opera to disable/enable Adblock: AdBlock Button Test it out: https://thepcspy.com/blockadblock/ If you're a linux user, you're also lucky enough to be able to get auto updates easily (Man, linux rocks!) Edit your cron tab with crontab -e add this line: @daily wget -q -O ~/.opera/urlfilter.ini http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ --no-check-certificate save (if using vim.. type :wq ) I think this works, haven't tested @daily before.
  3. Since you're trying to increase efficiency, here's one real way to do it. Find some way to check on what programs and services start up when you start the computer. I can't recommend a specific software at the moment, but maybe try http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-startup-manager.htm ? Sometimes there are things running in the background on your computer you don't even know about. Things such as, Camera junk from a camera you no longer use, or printer software from a printer that's been thrown out.. etcJust be careful you don't disable something important. If you don't know what something is, better not to disable it but sometimes you'll find something obvious that can be disabled.
  4. A 'CPU usage monitor' is really simple thing that doesn't do a whole lot. It's certainly not illegal. When your computer is doing something, like loading a game, editing an image or playing audio the CPU is in use (Central processing unit). Perhaps you have seen a light on your computer flicker when something is loading. The amount of it's processing power that's being used is mostly displayed as a percentage which makes it easy to graph the usage as CpuMon does.If you've ever opened up the Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) you'll see that there are already tabs that do the same thing as CPUMon and more. It shows you how much CPU each program is using not just the overall usage. So that's really all CpuMon is, a little statistical graph showing a % representing how busy your computer is on your desktop. The information is already available on Windows. It's not all that useful unless you happen to like looking at graphs which some people do. Some people like loading their desktop up with little widgets that have graphs and statistics. It's more desktop decoration than practical. Won't do much to improve the efficiency, unfortunately. Some monitors can actually slow down your computer since it's constantly working to print that graph (just a little). The only useful thing is that it can show you if something is busy that you don't know about. An example being, once in a while a program will close mysteriously -- but you'll notice your computer feels sluggish, having a visible CPU Usage monitor can show you that something weirds going on. Then you go to the Windows Task Manager and kill the program -- saving you from having to reboot. If you're actually interested in those graphs all over the place for eye candy, there are better more customizable free software out there to use.
  5. I wasn't sure if Opera Unite was just a tacked on feature that served no purpose or what, but after giving it a try I have to admit it's proving to be really useful. None of the features are nothing I couldn't have done without Opera, but they certainly are convenient to set up and easy for someone. I've tried the media player, adding my mp3 folder to it with a few clicks and am able to share my music with others and listen to it on another computer. Useful!I tried the streaming media app too. I can share videos easily with others and between computers. Like I said, most of the features are nothing an advanced computer user can't set up (FTP server, Web server) but Opera makes it so easy anyone can do it in a couple clicks (Click start app, pick a folder, ta-da!) . It's sure a lot easier for a newbie than downloading an FTP Server or setting up WAMP/LAMP if their needs are only basic. One issue is the unite features are nowhere near as powerful and flexible as a dedicated FTP server or web server, for example, as of this version I can only share one folder on my computer. I don't expect Opera to be a full fledged server, but they could add a little more flexibility.Another feature I'd like to see is more detailed activity logging. As a statistics junkie, I find current log lacking.
  6. I don't think there is a music more annoying than modern country music, if you can call it country music. Country music of any era has never been a genre I listen to often, but I do acknowledge that there were some greats.Chet Atkins virtuosity with his classical influence country twang, Maybelle Carter not only being a talented guitarist in a era when it was out of the ordinary for a female to be a guitarist, but her innovative technique inspired generations of guitarists. Johnny Cash with his Bob-Dylan-esque quality song lyrics and rebel attitude. Hank Williams Sr with his inimitable blues-country singing. Merle Travis with his frequently imitated finger picking style. I also love country style guitar playing and enjoy digging out my stratocaster and playing some twangy major scale country licks once in a while. Etc, etc.. probably more I'm missing. So I _can_ appreciate country music and have no prejudice toward it, there simply isn't anything to appreciate in modern country. It's a bunch of pop stars with accents singing about sleeping around and making stupid puns. Country used to have soul, but now it's about money. It all sounds the same.Of course, that's the way it goes with just about every genre of music. More bubble-gum and less emotion and individuality. However the thing that really bugs me most of all is that there seem to be only about ten country songs that they play on the radio. I live in a place where they play a lot of country music everywhere -- it's unavoidable, and I am hugely, immensely sick of hearing the same songs over, and over, and over, and over, and over. They play the same songs at least every hour. I like variety and pop country music is the antithesis of variety. They never play anything but the top 10 hits on repeat. Of course, they have the request hour. Do you know what people request? You bet, the same songs that are already being played. Perhaps I'm just plain weird, but I can't fathom why people don't get bored listening to the same song over and over for months. I'm always searching for new tunes and sounds around the world to feast my ears on and the utter banality of country music is as devoid of variety as it is of substance. It's pretty bad when a short, embarrassing reggae interlude is the hot topic of country innovation for months. I wish the Country music genre would expel these glorified pop stars and let some real music back onto the main stream. There's a reason why classic country music inspired blues, southern-rock, folk etc. It had something to offer.
  7. When I get sick, I also 'taste' something strange sometimes. I wouldn't say it reminds me of hot cheetos, but the sensation is really indescribable. I've mentioned it to people and they never seem to understand what I'm talking about it. It could be the same thing as what you're experiencing but you subconsciously identify it with your Hot Cheeto Cheese incident because there's nothing to really compare the taste/smell to. So I guess you're not the only person to experience it. I don't have an explanation though.
  8. Call me stupid, but I don't even know what Indigo is. A child with supernatural powers?
  9. Cool interests, glad to see another person with musical interests on KS. There is a sad lack of interesting music posts on here... hint, hint!

  11. I like the new version of Opera. It's kind of stealing Chrome's minimalistic look but that's fine with me, it has all the benefits of Opera with the sleek appearance of Chrome. It's hard to tell which is faster, both are better than Firefox. I haven't tried Opera Unite features but they seem surprisingly useful. It makes sharing files with friends easy. I can't wait to see how Opera does in the extension department. The extension database is showing promise but it's far from comparing to the massive amount of Firefox extensions at this time. Essential addons are already being made available on Opera. Check this out: Great news from the LastPass team!

    Hello !

Hi, nice to meet you Tracie. What do you blog about? I hope your joining brings some excitement to the forum because things are kind of slow here lately!

  14. Huh, I'm furthering my studies of the, ahem, sacred texts to enlighten myself.
  15. I think tricking someone into typing /con/ or something caused a blue screen (freeze up) on earlier versions of windows. Another weird fact is that one of the commands used by modems to communicate is +++ATH0, the hang-up code. You used to be able to disconnect someone simply by sending them something with that command in it. Even simply sending them an Instant Message. It was rough -- but fun -- in the early days of the internet .
  16. I just downloaded Bahara and can confirm it works on Linux with wine for anyone interested, thanks for suggesting it. It seems to be very helpful as well Nope I'm not Indian.
  17. Can someone explain something to me about basic Hindi grammar. Unfortunately it is hard to ask my question because I don't know how to write Devanagari Hindi on a computer :DI'm a bit confused with the joining of consonants. For example, how about "njo". I've got the "Na" with no vowel, and "jo". I can simply write Na with a ` (halant) below and add jo, both of which I can handle, but I thought that when joining two consonants a piece of the first consonant had to be cut off and the ` was only used at the end of a word. Yet, I have seen someone write a similar word with ` (halant) and no conjoined letters. I don't understand what's going on, help!So basically my question is, how do you join two consonants and add a vowel on the end correctly?
  18. I have no idea, but it's a cool project. I love playing with my GPS. It sounds awesome to use it in a project, but I don't know anything about this kind of stuff. I don't know what a 3-axis accelerometer is supposed to do. So what's the end result supposed to be? A track on a 3D grid?
  19. When I logged on to MSN Messenger, that "Today" window -- the one that usually tells me how to pick a bra that's "right for me" -- had a link to a MSNBC article (or blog) about God being seen on Google Earth. It was silly so I posted the link.

  24. I think IDLE is showing how much of your CPU is not in use. 100% would be a good thing then. If one program is using 34% and another is using 5%, your idle % would be 61. I don't think it can 'eat' anything. As for svchost, I have had the problem too but I just live with it and reboot, it doesn't happen too often for me. Have you tried:https://www.technibble.com/how-to-fix-svchost-using-100-cpu-memory-leak/ I haven't, so I don't know if it works. Also make sure it really is SVChost and NOT SCVhost, because I had a virus that disguised itself as SCVhost.
  25. SMTP is for sending e-mail, so it sounds like they're accusing your member of using their server to a bunch of bulk spam e-mails ? If it's creating a load on their server, someone must be sending _a lot_ of e-mails, . Perhaps one of your members has a virus that's using Xisto - Web Hosting's SMTP server to send out a bunch of bulk mail? I've seen it before. Maybe your member has a grudge against someone and is using his e-mail account and a "hacker" tool flood someone's e-mail with garbage... Did you even give your members e-mail accounts on your site ?
