I vented about Captcha's and their suck-tastic qualities a long time ago on this site. It seems most times they don't have to be solved with complete accuracy though. I often type in things that don't necessarily look right and they will work. I've seen three III's typed in as lowercase L's and it accepted it. Still, there are some sites that are just plain annoying. I hate when you "know" you're right, but it won't work! What site were you having problems with?

For those of you that download stuff, movies, music, etc, I have some recommendations. I find the software JDownloader (http://www.jdownloader.org/) very useful. It automates downloading and makes it easier. I haven't found anything better for the job. The problem is, you often have file links that are protected by Captchas and they won't download on JDownload without your intervention. Really sucks! Hold back those tears of disappointment, for there is good news! I recently discovered a great website to solve this problem. It is called http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Download the Jdownloader plugin, and you'll be able to download almost all links. You need to have credits for solves, which are cheap and/or easy to accumulate for free. You just go to Earn Credits, and solve some Captcha's when you have time to stockpile credits. It's not much work to solve some captchas in the corner of your screen while you're doing something else. If anyone happens to register on captchatrader, I would appreciate if you used my nickname for a referral rob86 , I get a few credits if you do Have fun with your LEGAL downloads!

Saying Hi... To All My first post - introduction
rob86 replied to MayukhDebnath's topic in Introductions
Hi. You did a fine job on your introduction, better than average I'd say! You don't need a whole lot of posts to get your website up and running, so just post some interesting stuff. I was overflowing with MyCents just from casual posting. Well, I don't make a great welcoming committee but everyone else seems to be sleeping and I'd hate for a new member to feel ignored . Have fun, look forward to reading your posts! -
I like the robots one, especially the neat reference to The Day the Earth Stood Still. I also like in Google Chrome when a tab dies. "He's dead, Jim! X_X" like Dr McCoy.On a totally unrelated note, I thought the Three Stooges easter egg in Dead Space was pretty cool too! It certainly was in contrast to all the blood and guts.

Were you lucky enough to receive a Windows 7 installation disk when you bought the laptop, or even a recovery disk? Both of these might give you the option to format your drive if you just put in the disk and reboot the computer. If you don't have one, there are other options.. Let me know and we'll go from there.

If you aren't already, I recommend running a local web server on your computer for testing. Install the server with LAMP (linux) or WAMP (windows) is relatively easy if you follow instructions. It will make your testing easier and you'll be able to share your site with us by giving your IP address (Unless your ISP gives you a password protected router that blocks this web/ftp server stuff like my new one ) and you will be able to access it by the link http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . As your pages get more complex attaching them will be insufficient for us to see them. Of course you could upload everything to a site paid for by KS posts, but I prefer testing/learning locally because it's quicker and easier.

Spring?!?! Spring is great, but it sure isn't spring here yet. We just got another load of snow. and it's snowing as I speak. I can't walk anywhere without snowshoes, and my dog goes out of sight if I try to walk him anywhere. Even the snowmobiles are finding it hard to go through the deep snow. I love snow and winter, but I wouldn't mind seeing those subtle signs of spring right now. I wouldn't mind the not-so-subtle either, Ahhh, there's nothing like the smell of cow manure in the springtime. Brings back memories of being a kid and hearing the harmony of "Ewwwwwwwwww's on the school bus as we drove by the many farms. Spring is a great time of year though. I always feel a renewed interest in life when spring arrives. It's like being reborn. So much life sprouting up from nature, the landscape changes to green, the days fill with sounds of wildlife. It's hard not to feel rejuvenated. Come on, spring. Hurry up!

I was shocked when today I logged in to my G-Mail account and found my e-mail address had been compromised. I share this as as both a warning to others and to take my mind off the embarrassing fact I sent sexual advice to everyone in my address book.Without my knowledge, dozens of spam e-mails were sent at 5:37 (I receieved a lot of automated replies to the spam) from my account. A log shows that someone had indeed accessed my account. Browser * Canada (205.174.169.*) 6:41 pm (0 minutes ago) Mobile Netherlands (80.61.76.144) 5:37 pm (1 hour ago) Browser * Canada (205.174.169.*) 1:16 pm (5 hours ago) Browser * Canada (205.174.169.*) 4:28 am (14 hours ago)I changed my password, I hope that it rectifies the problem and prevents further intrusion. It all seems to have been completely automated.I have no idea how this happened, but I believe this invasion of my private e-mail was a result of negligence on my part. I'm an experienced user who knows how to look out for security risks, though I am admittedly lazy when it comes to good passwords. Despite being well aware of the security risk, I often use similar easy passwords for easy remembering which might have resulted in the hax0ring, Perhaps it was just brute-forced. No idea, Regardless, I urge others to be careful was well. I didn't think this could happen to me. It did however, and I'm glad the result was not worse. Then again, I don't know how much information if any was siphoned from my account. I think it almost convinced me to take security a little more seriously. Too bad I'm still lazy...

It's pretty funny! It's a nice blend of Mario Kart and old slapstick comedy, with the obligatory chasing cops and stuff.

I'm looking to replace my aging Magellan eXplorist 500 "Trail" GPS with something newer. I need an all-purpose outdoor GPS model that doesn't include camera or mp3. I don't need those features and don't want to pay for them. I have been satisfied with the Magellan product, but I would like to try out another brand unless there are some real good reasons to stick with Magellan. Good Geocaching features are a plus. Any unique features in general are a plus. I use these GPS for all kinds of things.. hiking, kaying, mapping trails and measuring speeds. I've seen more 'exercise' focused GPS (like ones that strap on your wrist) out there with cool features like a 'ghost', but I'm not sure thats the direction I want to go in. I like a nice screen with a map to keep from getting lost in the wilderness.I've been looking at the Garmin Oregon 450 and comparing it with similarly priced models. I'm not sure really sure what the differences between the Oregon and Garmin GPSMap are. I liked that the Garmin had a real compass that people say works fine, I kind of hated not having a real compass in my eXplorist. I had to keep moving to get an accurate reading..annoying sometimes!I'm a little concerned about touch screens, other than the cool factor, it seems less functional than one with buttons? It might work great in a vehicle to get to a pizza place, but I'm skeptical how well it works for real mapping use. I wouldn't turn down a good GPS because of a touch screen, but I'm just not sure it's really an advantage over buttons.I don't know much about other brands like Delorme because they don't seem to be as popular as Garmin and Magellan here but I am still considering them. They seem to lack the touch screens? for better or for worse.Does anyone have any experience with these GPS to give an opinion? I've never used a Garmin product before but have experience with a couple Magellans..I've heard Delorme offers some interesting maps, but I don't know how useful that is because I can use Google for great satellite maps at home anyway. I live in Canada so map products like a selection of Ultra High Res US Topo maps aren't that useful for me. However, I have heard of Garmin BirdsEye satellite map subscription. I was wondering how the maps are in my part of the country.. does anyone have a subscription to Garmin BirdsEye that could let me know?Any advice would be great, thanks.

Okay, I think I have what you're looking for (which means you can probably ignore my last post) Open up a linux terminal emulator and type one of these in: My mp3 folder is "mp3zz" but you'll have to change the path to suit your needs. Option #1: find mp3zz/ -iname '*.mp3' -fprint listofmp3s.txt This option will print a list of every mp3 and include the path for example;: mp3zz/ACDC - Blah Blah.mp3 mp3zz/Led Zeppelin - Whatever.mp3 mp3z/SuckyMusicFolder/Backstreet Boys - Who cares.mp3 Option #2 find mp3zz/ -iname '*.mp3' -fprintf listofmp3s.txt '%f\n' This will print a list that shows only the filename, like this: ACDC - Blah Blah.mp3 Led Zeppelin - Whatever.mp3 Backstreet Boys - Who cares.mp3 I hope one of these suits your needs.. if you need more help ask. Not sure of your experience with linux you might have some trouble applying my commands it to your folders !!BONUS! You can sort your finished list alphabetically with this command sort listofmp3s.txt > sortedlistofmp3s.txt

Are you using linux? That would be very easy if you were. I don't have an exact command right now (I'm on Windows and a little rusty) but you can open up a terminal and check out the 'ls" and "find" terminal commands and remember that adding > or >> will write the output to a text file. ls - List the Contents of a directory The command ls is used to the contents of a directory.Options What it does-l long listing-R list current directory and all other directories within current directory-a list hidden files-CF list in column format and append '*' to executable files, '@' to symbolic linked files, '/' to directories-r list in reverse alphabetically order-t list more recent accessed files firstfilename(s) Values to matchExamples What it doesls only list file/directory names in current directoryls -l list all file/directory information in current directory(long version)ls -R list all files in current directories and belowls -lt list all files, sorted by most recent accessed firstls -lt /etc/rc* list files in the '/etc/ directory, only starting with 'rc' and sort results by most recent So something like ls -R > listofmp3s.txt might work. If not, you might have to experiment a bit with ls or find. IF you're using Windows, I'm not sure but I could figure out something later if you don't find a solution. I can give you the right linux code later too if you don't figure it out but there are probably 10000 ways to do it with one command. Linux was made for this kinda stuff! Edit: Oh, I want to add that you can use *.mp3 to only show mp3s. I think it's ls [flags] *.mp3 you can check ls -help for more info on the syntax.

I know you solved your problem, but I want to remind you that the Opera browser has a "Unite" feature that allows you to stream songs from one computer on another. It's not the best method in the world, but it has it's benefits. It saves disk space on your laptop and you can also access your songs from another computer not at home. Opera is a nice browser anyway, so it doesn't bother me to have it running.

Interesting question, but I have a more disturbing one. Why is Deadmad7 LICK~ing everyone?Dogs lick for a variety of instinctual reasons, and trying to understand them is always going to be difficult. Dogs often lick their owner to show submission. Sometimes while playing with my dog, he'll hurt my finger by accident and I'll yell out in pain "Ow! Stop it, foo!". Whether he feels guilt or not is debatable, but he does realize something went wrong and he'll lick me in a submissive looking way. My dog also licks when I attempt to pull painful things out of his fur. Licking seems to be a prelude to aggressive biting. He doesn't really understand I'm trying to help and will often show his discomfort by growling and hiding in a corner and if I don't stop bothering him he'll start gently nipping at my hand and licking it intensely. Then when that fails, he might resort to some minor biting on the 'official' bite scale.. They also do groom like cats do. I assume most dogs groom themselves somewhat (not as much as a Cat), but some dogs seem to groom other pets and people more than others -- perhaps it's a maternal instinct, I don't know. My male dogs have never attempted to groom me.I think with the exception of grooming, licking in it's many varieties is a sign of submission. I don't think being submissive HAS to be some dramatic display with a tail between legs etc, it can be just a daily reminder that your dog is comfortable in it's position of the 'pack'. Every dog is unique even though they follow guidelines set by evolution. It's hard to describe it as a sign of affection because affection is kind of a human dramaticism of instinctual behaviors. I'm not sure what my opinion of Human affection is, let alone dogs. To quote, "What is Love? Baby, don't hurt me!". It CAN be a dramatic display though, I think licking is intensified when there's a fear response. Whether it's licking something or licking their lips. It's kind of like when you have a rough friend or family member who's choking the life out of you and you're panicking even though you know they're not really going to strangle you to death they're just being a jerk. A person will start freaking out irrationally trying to stop the scary moment.Or maybe, you just have peanut butter on you :)And Deadmad I doubt they are marking their scent on you LOL. I don't think dogs are supposed to pee on their family but that sure would be a touching display of affection wouldn't it? Have fun with your dog aNGELINA!

I agree with Deadmad, I use the cheapest of the cheap optical mice and they work so good I can't understand the need for an expensive mouse other than having a cool looking mouse. I also use cheap wireless ones and I play games on PC and don't have any trouble with lag and I'm a fast clicker. One thing I've noticed is that some mice need a mousepad more than others. I had one wired mouse that worked fine on any mousepad, but when I got a wireless mouse I had to throw out the pads and use a frugal alternative. I took a hard cover book and wrapped a piece of white printer paper around the cover (like a home-made bookcover). It works much better than any of the mousepads I had, even the ones that were mostly one single colour. The all-white works great. Sometimes different colours screw up the mouse and make it jerk around on the screen. They can work on a desk, but not very good in my experience.. and it feels odd and noisy without a mousepad.

A weird sounding title for sure, but it's very serious! Do you remember when a computer mouse worked with a big ball inside it? It's a nightmare I still try to forget! They used to clog up with dirt and need cleaning all the time. I remember banging the mouse against the mouse pad repeatedly. I used to play games and during crucial moments the mouse ball would be sticking and I would be hitting it and beating it on the desk trying to get it back in action before my enemy wiped me out. Then when the physical abuse proved futile, I'd have to take the ball out in the middle of the game and pick out dirt and pet fur from the inside with a finger or something. It was always sticking too, I think I worked up some Schwarzeneggar style muscles in my arm trying to drag those things across the pad. When the optical mouse was invented -- it was just about the best advancement in home computing ever. I still remember the rage I felt thanks to the mousies of the past. Although, I have to admit the heavy little ball provided "hours" of fun during the long load times back in the day. Roll it baaaack and foooorth across the desk! Weeeeeee!

10 Posts Per Day Pledge - Save The Forum! Save the forum
rob86 replied to deadmad7's topic in Web Hosting Support
No thanks, I put more effort into keeping this forum alive than it deserves already. I think the people on the forum have some interesting posts so I stick around but I have no noble goals of saving this place. We've all suggested many improvements to the forum, and they seem to go unnoticed. Heck, I don't see improvements of ANY kind going on. The staff are obviously too busy to maintain and improve this forum these days -- which is fine, I won't hold that against against them. I thought the helpfulness of the mods was a great part of this forum when I first joined, their dedication to replying to my posts inspired me to post more. Now, it feels forsaken. There is no dedicated staff posting daily, no Admin updates, no moving forward. KS should be growing -- not shrinking out of existence. The page takes minutes to load for reasons unexplained, it's buggier than ever and no mention of attempts to fix it. I think there should be people 'in charge' that actually take an active interest in the forum. A new bunch of mods and an Admin with time and motivation to improve the place. I don't care if it's Xisto or someone creates an entirely new forum. It shouldn't be up to the members to do all the work, unless the Admin want to give us more power in shaping Xisto to be a better forum. Posting 10 posts per day is a waste of time unless the staff make an equal or greater effort. We need something solid to start building improvements upon, and that's what the moderators are supposed to be there for in my opinion. Spam-fighting is important, but not as important as inspiring us. Give dedicated regular members the power to kill spam by voting or something. If anyone wants to create a new improved KS-style forum where everything can be discussed and people are helpful and polite, count me in as a member. I'll even help create it.. and I would leave Xisto in a heart beat if I knew somewhere else to go! -
I neglected to use Wikipedia to give you a chance to make some MyCents I thought fettuccine and tagliatelle looked familiar in the pictures. That makes things a little easier, fettuccine is an easy ingredient to find.Muscat nut, I have a feeling that's Nutmeg? I put it in my bechamel sauce once and it tasted like it belonged there. I didn't know if it was commonly used or not, sometimes I just experiment. I've never been to the local italian restaurant I'm not sure how authentic they are as my city doesn't have the best food choices in the world, but the caffee corretto sounds interesting!

Mamma mia! That's a lot of pasta. I have some questions, mostly to let you know somebody is paying attention I've always wanted to make some Carbonara after seeing a recipe somewhere else, because the ingredients are mostly easy to get, but I've never eaten raw eggs before and people always tell me I'll keel over and die if I eat raw eggs. Since you're still alive, I assume they are safe to eat? What the heck is Seitan? lol I've never heard that word in my life... If I'm going to be praising something, it'd be nice to know what it is. What is.. palmito? The tagliawhatsits, is that at all similar to fettuccine? Could fettuccine be a substitute? And a semi-related question, you mentioned Bechamel sauce in a recipe. This is just the basic milk, flour and butter thing right? I've made this a few times, but do you know anything to make this sauce more interesting? Any additional ingredients to expand on the basic recipe? Thanks for the recipes by the way.

For some reason, your attachment isn't working now but I heard it the other day. From what I remember, it sounds cool. The second part reminds me of classic computer games. I think making the 'drum fill' more interesting when it goes into the second part would improve it a lot. Instead of the "1,2,3,4" something more realistic. Here are lots of midi fills for inspiration:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
