  1. Man, this place is more boring than watching my igloo thaw out in the spring time. What do people on this forum want to discuss? What are your interests? Some of us might share common interests and recognizing those common interests might spark some discussion and it would be nice to sign on to this forum and see something interesting once in a while. I have a whole load of interests, but here are some that I would be interested in discussing on the forum:I like discussing food and cooking, but reading copy and pasted recipes is kind of boring. Can't we spice up the food discussion a little? Maybe a little information on local cuisine in your country with a picture or two and some personal experiences with the food? Maybe a brief history of the dish if it's something most people wouldn't know? Maybe drinks? Favourite tea? Coffee? Beer? Wine? Anything?I like discussing music, whether it's musical instruments of any kind or recording studio toys, or an interesting composition you made or music theory or a favourite musician of yours that is relatively unknown. I like reading about animals and nature, seeing pictures of wild creatures in other parts of the world or nature pictures. Preferably pictures taken by the poster, not something off of google. I have other interests, but those are a few I wouldn't mind seeing discussed more here. What do other people want to see posted on KS??
  2. Whoa, peppermint patties are awesome! I never thought about making home made ones before! Sweet! (No pun intended)
  3. When you look at the bottom bottom of the DVD disc, does it appear to have had information burned onto it? (You can tell by the appearance. Look at one of your burned cds you should see a change in colour). I had this burning problem with a computer. I burned a DVD video on it, but it would not play and showed up as EMPTY. I repeated this a couple times and it wouldn't work. So, I tried the DVD on another computer and also on a TV dvd player and it worked fine on both. So the problem was apparently the DVD writer not being able to play what it burned? Kind of weird, but that's what happened. I didn't bother finding a solution. I don't know really, perhaps try another brand of disc or maybe check online to see if otheres are having problems with your specific dvd writer model it might have a firmware update that could help.
  4. You should share some violin music with us!

  5. I figured this news (not the fault of the poster, it was everywhere) was blown out of proportion -- as far as I know it turns out that the big discovery was a organism found on EARTH (california) that can live in arsenic or something. It's interesting news because now NASA has a better idea where to look for life, but I'm not a biologist so I didn't pay much attention. I was kind of hoping for at least an organism found on another planet
  6. I don't mind hard to learn simulations, I had Dangerous Waters (naval combat simulation) and it was real complicated, learning to calculate torpedo trajectories and read sonar readings. I had to read the entire manual like it was a text book but it was rewarding to figure it out. You never know when you might need to commandeer a nuclear submarine after all.
  7. I think a PC flight simulator with proper flight controllers would be interesting to play with, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the money to buy a game and the gear to do it? I don't know how long an interest in it could be sustained. I saw il2 Sturmovik and despite it's age looked interesting, but are there other flight simulators with enough realism to make a hobby in flight simulation worth the expense? I want to play something that's at least somewhat similar to the real experience. The genre seems to be saturated with console arcade games like HAWX, and while that looks 'ok' for a short brust of entertainment I'd prefer to spend my moolah on more simulation-realism. It doesn't have to be a combat sim, as long as it is interesting. I hear a lot about Microsoft Flight Sim, is that good enough to keep a hobbyist interested for at least a little while? What about force-feedback? Does that make the experience any better?
  8. My uncle used to have a (animal) skull with a spine attached hanging from a tree. I don't know what it was there for, to ward off evil spirits or deter wild animals but it was ...interesting.
  9. What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?

  10. Who would have thought that the thing I love the most would betray me? This exciting episode of Life of Rob is a tragic tale of betrayal and of spilled blood. It was a dark and stormy night when I decided to make a sandwich. Oh, it would be a special sandwich at that. A fine french baguette which happened to be 50% off paired with sliced meat sharing a similar discount. Due to the uh, 'vintage' qualities of the discount baguette it happened to be slightly more crunchy than I expected. Being a victim of a circumstance, the wily cutting utensil slipped on the surface of the bread and sliced through the wrong bloody thing -- my finger. Don't worry, it didn't saw my finger off. It did hurt though! I couldn't believe that the food I had come to love had done this to me. Certainly I would expect this from a woman, but from my baguette? Why?Since no episode of Life of Rob would be complete without a lesson, here is the lesson for all you young people out there inspired by my suffering. I washed off that wound, I applied that rubbing alcohol, and I got right back on that cutting board, and I sawed through that baguette like a professional. I didn't let that setback stop me from achieving my goals. This motivational post was brought to you by the generous donations of chini13, who slips me a fresh roti once in a while.
  11. Today something not overly important nor headline news worthy happened. My fan started buzzing. It was rather annoying and my cat would agree. I calmly used the knowledge from my computer repair course in high school. I started banging on the case. Whrrrr, WhrRrRRrrrrr. That didn't work, so I tried another tried & tested technique. I lifted it up a few inches and dropped it onto the floor. The buzz quieted, but for some incomprehensible reason my repair methods weren't entirely successful. Alas, I was left with no other option - surgery. I took off the case cover with little difficulty thanks to that quality case I was convinced to pay for years ago and blew in it. Good grief! I almost suffocated from the cloud of dust that escaped from the confines of that case. After gagging for a minute, I started wiggling the fan with my finger hoping to dislodge some dust particles, and dislodge them I did, a big glob of fuzzy dust fell out and on to the sound card. At least I think it was the sound card, it was covered in so much dust that the surface of it wasn't even visible. I blew the glob of dust off and then realized - whoa, wait a second. What if all that dust is holding the computer together? I better leave what's working alone. The thing is absolutely covered in dust. So I cleaned out the fan and sprayed some lubricant on it and now it's quiet. A job well done! Now, excuse me while I pass out from breathing that dust. You have been listening to Life of Rob on Xisto. This high quality posting was paid for by viewers like you.
  12. For the most part, I like being Canadian. There is one thing however that really makes me envious of our southern neighbours. The poultry available in the USA is not only much cheaper, it's larger and much more flavourful -- there is just no comparison. The chicken and turkey in my province tastes like paper compared to American poultry and it costs twice as much. The meat has a yellow tint and gravy made with the meat is also yellow tinted. What's the catch? Why's your chicken so good? Corn feeding? Modern Science? Is American poultry going to to make me grow another arm or something? I think I heard that Canada has laws against all the funky stuff Americans do to chickens to make them grow fast, but I don't know if that's true. Hmmm?

  15. Wow, those trolls are handsome fellas aren't they?
  16. I'm trying to figure out what this old gun I have in my possession is supposed to be. I'm going to take a picture of it maybe some of you intelligent people can identify it. Haha! No, just kidding. It's not quite so impressive. Here's the rifle I want to know more about: It was one of my grandfather's many guns, I don't think it's particularly impressive since my uncle kept the good World War 2 stuff for himself but I'm still interested to know what it is. My grandfather died long before I was born and nobody seems to know anything about his belongings. It's hard to read the markings on it, there are quite a few, but I'll try to write down some stuff I see: Looks like initials in fancy written letters, maybe F G Mad 71/84 There is what looks to be a small crown symbol underneath it says maybe KW or something. On top it says Spandau with a crown symbol It says 8990 all over it in multiple spots. On the metal pieced screwed on to the butt it says 10 R.E. 3.103. That's the most important stuff as far as I can tell I have an even older gun thats falling apart, but one mystery is enough for now... Any ideas? Is it just some cheap old hunting rifle or is it more interesting?

Lucky you :( we don't have snow yet. But it is freezing cold here! Yeah build an igloo and post some pictures of it. I love igloos they remind me of Pengu the Penguin :D

  18. I think there's a lot more complexity to being a famous singer than simply combining two musical genres Or perhaps it is merely a matter of luck? I couldn't begin to define what makes a good vocalist, there's too much opinion involved. I do like think a unique sound is a good quality in music though. I enjoyed your post about music, however brief it may have been.
  19. Yeah it used to happen to me all the time. I copy and paste out of paranoia/habit now. What I really hate is when you write a huge post, copy to clipboard, send the post, and it it fails. You accept that inconvenience, seeing as how in your infinite wisdom you saved it to your clipboard. No big deal. Then when you paste it in, it's the wrong clip - normally replaced by something tiny like a URL or something. Ugh!
  20. I'm using Opera's "Content Blocker" (named as such to prevent a bad image) which is an Opera feature with a 3rd party list of things that should be blocked, the same as AdBlock Plus I think. I don't know about Firefox but in Opera you can right click on the page, click "Edit Site Preferences", click "Content" tab and disable Content Blocking for that domain. Anyway, I made a mistake in my earlier post with the crontab thing (not that anyone noticed): paste THIS line to your crontab (by typing crontab -e) @daily wget -q -O /home/rob/.opera/urlfilter.ini https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/opera/urlfilter.ini --no-check-certificate Because crontab doesn't work with the shell, you _must_ use /home/YOURUSERNAME/ and not the shortcut ~/. Replace rob with your username. It seems to work now.
  21. Chuck Berry's famous Duck Walk...http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Angus Young (AC/DC) 's duck walk...http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Angus Young inspired myself to duckwalk...once in a while :rolleyes:There was also an African American blues singer who danced inappropriately before Elvis, but I can't remember what his name was. He was never popular with a white audience. I think he quite possibly may have inspired Elvis and his music + dancing. I wish I could remember his name.
  22. If you use Firefox, you will like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/
  23. Another thing you could do is use another one of Microsoft's 'hidden' tools. Click the start button, in the "Run" field type in msconfig and push enter. A window will pop up with tabs such as General, Boot, Services, Startup. Click on services, and there should be a check box that says "Hide All Microsoft Services" -- check that, it'll take out pretty much all the really important stuff and make the list small. Look through it, and disable any obvious things if there are any or ask here. Then click on startup tab, and look through it for things you don't need and disable them. Or ask if you aren't sure. And yeah, don't disable explorer.exe

  25. I use youtube mostly for educational purposes and sometimes watching some live videos of musicians. You can find pretty much anything on YT, how to use perform a song, to repair your motorcycle, to cook foreign cuisine. I also use it to share things with people -- a quick way to introduce them to things, tv show clips or songs. It's sometimes useful for checking out products before purchasing.I haven't seen Fred but he sounds a lot like Mr Bean. I recall his comedy involved dentists and swimming among other things.
