  1. another "kababayan" (compatriot) trapped in here for good. hehehe? nice for you to have joined us. i can't keep track of you all already. WELCOME! and BE GOOD... BE VERY GOOD!
  2. welcome to Xisto, Orochimar. nice intro by the way. however it's in the wrong forum section so i'll be moving it to the proper one. :lol:don't forget to read our forum rules and regulations (see my forum siggy below for the Xisto README). and hope you enjoy your stay with us. see you around the forums!
  3. a new version of the opera mini browser (version 5.0 beta) has just been released today, and is such a big improvement from the last 4.2 version. if you've been using OM4.2 before, you will find this update a sweet deal. here are the top new features: Tabbed browsing: just like on a desktop browser, you can now enjoy browsing several web sites at the same time, using tabs. this feature has long been awaited for the opera mini browser, so you could switch easily from one page to another. Speed Dial: although this feature was already available in the older OM4.2, the speed dial is made easier to configure and use from the start page, so your favorite bookmarked sites are just a click away (or with a combo-keystroke ). Touch & Keypad: This updated version is now capable to optimize the use of mobile phones with a touchscreen for browsing the web. Of course, it can still be used for keypad phones, that's a given. Password manager: well, that sums it up pretty well... something to manage your passwords you frequently use to access your e-mail, social networks, etc. you will also love the NEW interface, and it's a much more pleasing interface than that on OM4.2. there's also the full text search feature, as well as convenient copy and paste features. the compression feature is still present, so you'll get to view the sites you want FASTER. i'm already using it on my mobile, even if it's just in it's beta stage. take it for a spin, if you have a Java-enabled phone. you can directly download it from your mobile: http://www.opera.com/mobile or if you would need to download it from your PC, you can get it from this page (just transfer it to your mobile for installation): http://www.opera.com/mobile OH! did i forget to mention there is a version for BlackBerry phones too? now you know!
  4. i'm not fully aware of the whole spectrum of ideas put forward on the national health care issue in the USA, since i'm not an american citizen, so there's not much it can do to affect me personally. but what this joe wilson did is just plain unparliamentary and out of protocol. maybe the US congress is on it's way to becoming like the parliamentarians in south korea. will we be later seeing physical punches thrown, as well as chairs and documents, as what usually happens there? REALITY TV at it's finest when that happens. the best thing that happened to joe wilson is becoming an internet meme, an overnight internet star, with just two words. TWO WORDS. and we get laughs and chuckles aplenty online. apologies thenafter won't erase joe wilson's infamy, since it has already been unleashed to the world. i'll leave it to US citizens to debate the merits of the national health care issue. the rest of the world is just on the side lines on this one.
  5. the shortest sentence is "Me." that is if you're gonna ask who is the cutest among trappers here on Xisto. on a biblical reference, the shortest sentence is "Jesus wept." the longest sentence is up to debate ad nauseam.

    Opera Mini

i see a resurgence of interest for opera mini... i wonder why. i'm using OM4.2 to make my posts here now, so i thought i need to drop by. i'm also waiting for an update on a new and better OM. any news on updates?
  7. ouch. you lost your data on your memory stick completely? ever tried data recovery tools first? that's a hard lesson to learn. i never had a problem with my phone's memory card, so far. i got a 1GB capacity mmc for my nokia mobile, but i didn't experience a diminished performance even if i had to go almost to the limit and fill it up with just 10MB to spare. maybe it's just compatibility issues with yours, which is why you're not getting the maximum benefit from your memory stick on your mobile. not all memory sticks are created equal, which is why you should ask a replacement or refund if you're getting problems. is warranty already voided which keeps you from returning it? check if the memory capacity you have bought is the maximum prescribed for your phone. if it's over and above the prescribed, then that will surely cause issues. mine, for example, is prescribed to work with up to 1GB, but i've heard that others tested 2GB... and it worked... until it gets corrupted when it reaches a third of its capacity. maybe that is what's happening with your unit's memory. ask for a more reliable and quality brand next time too for your purchase. i'm not really familiar with SE-compatible memory sticks, or if there are generic, 3rd-party manufacturers for sticks that may work with SEs. but with nokia (from experience), there are lots of brands of memories to choose from in our local shops here which can work with it. it's a hit-and-miss sometimes, in choosing the right brand to use. i just pick the most reliable brand i'm hearing, the more established, the better. one last thing: it could be static which played a role in your mishap. possibly the same with a pc ram, when handled improperly. just narrowing things.
  8. kudos, alex! all has been said already, so good luck!

  10. if you badly needed those files, you shouldn't have attempted to format it. ;)anyway, have you tried plugging it into another machine? just to check if same problem arises.

  12. sometimes it could be cheaper to have your laptop battery repacked. check some local computer tech shops in your area to ask if they can repack your laptop battery and for how much. compare that to the price of a brand new battery for your laptop model.repacking involves simply replacing the rechargeable batteries in its casing. do some research on this online to see how it works, but if you're not familiar with it, don't try doing it yourself. ;)just giving you options...
  13. do i see three stooges hiding somewhere in there? actually, i barely have a clue on which TV shows those quotes originated.
  14. google has 70% of the internet advertising pie, as yahoo and microsoft acknowledge themselves. and is the deal really final already? until the ink has dried on the contracts, i'm bound to be sceptical of the "ad/search-merger" agreement between the two giants. i don't clearly see yet how this merger will be a boon for both as they claim; i'm getting the vibe it will not last the whole ten years as they originally plan. one will get royally f***ed by the other, them being giants and all the internal financial squabbles which may surface soon as they see the agreement benefits one more than the other; i foresee yahoo will get the shorter end of the stick as they will lose their search platform with the adoption of bing. notwitstanding that yahoo is getting 80% of advertising revenues, what will happen to them after the deal expires? bing stays with microsoft, and advertisers which yahoo cultivates in so many years will follow bing. yahoo would have been better off if they had allowed microsoft to buy them out earlier, instead of a stretched, lingering, slow death.as for google, they've got fully two years (by which time we'll all see if yahoo, powered by bing is a total success or not) to thwart the merger designed to eat up on their market shares.
  15. can you imagine your favorite futurama characters with a different voice other than its original voice talents? it seems that such will be the case with news that salary negotiations for their return for this new season turned south. bummer! adjust your expectations, beloved futurama fans! will "sound-alikes" satisfy you?

  17. type up a support ticket at Xisto - Support.com. a support staff can attend to your hosting invoice problem the soonest via that ticket.
  18. Seinfeld. Frasier. you gotta check those two on IMDB. while you're at it, maybe head on to Amazon to check a compilation DVD. perhaps some second-hand copies found it's way at eBay so check that too. :Don youtube, you can simply search for japanese comedy. no translations needed as you will fully understand the comedic situations the japanese stage. :)also google monty python. these are hilarious, coming from the brits. :Pdownloadables? can't help you with that since these are still subject to international copyright and we can't post them here.
  19. as far as i know, Google Chrome OS is still vapour ware. hence nothing to review as of yet. if something supposedly out of 2005, as stated by SpiderVV, is downloadable somewhere in the interwebs claiming to be google chrome OS, i would surely doubt it's legitimacy... very, very much. a lot of hoaxters are sprouting left and right since the new OS was announced laying claim to have hatched a coup on being the first to have seen the OS in action and making it public (screenshots included, apparently in bootup stage). nevertheless, as it is still vapour ware, it's easy to spot the hoax. google hasn't even called for open-source developers for this project yet. let's wait a few more months. we can have a better review which are not merely suppositions.
  20. @SM: So you got over the blue hairy cookie monster syndrome but got infected with the bert virus instead? i suppose your voice changed too from your old gravelly one to the new pitchy sound associated with the bert virus. post a voice recording too, not just the pic.@Tramposch: i always wear a hood, and my face is all covered up or in the dark shade in pictures. no point in posting them here if you just see a rorshach blot. i'll just leave it up to everybody's imagination. (i'll check on those pics posted here later. it's small and grainy to my eyes while i'm viewing Xisto from a mobile phone. )
  21. @tramposch: lolz i agree. or maybe the calendar maker/s died. or maybe they had a recession and the calendar maker/s got their separation papers (or slabs of stones). or maybe the calendar maker/s had a scarcity of resources in the production line. and much more @fruitrocks: welcome to Xisto. and may your stay here be fruitful, but not rocky. btw, that numeric phenomenon in your subject will recur next month, so you better be ready. hehe? mostly for europeans who follow the DDMMYY format, and not the MMDDYY format.
  22. i've got a netbook ready to take google chrome OS for a spin when it is released. i was actually prepping it for android (also from google, but designed for mobiles) when and if i learn to make it run on a netbook. but with the google chrome OS in the near horizon, i'm scrapping my research on android. currently, my netbook is running old windows xp, and i have to tweak it extensively to reduce background processes to a bare minimum and make xp run more efficiently without too much lag.google is a visionary, so it will impact a lot on how we do things in the future. i'm sure microsoft is looking already on how the soon-to-be-born chrome OS will affect their bottom-line, and if they manage to agree within their windows development department committees/members that cloud computing is the wave of the future especially now that google is stepping inside their vaunted OS playground, then they will surely follow suit. maybe they will go open-source too and give away their OS for free. :angel:in the final equation, it's a good thing that google announced this new OS. it will spur innovation in the OS market dominated by windows.on it being a cloud OS, i'm hoping google would not limit it much by having us all be connected online to be productive using it. as one member pointed above, not every netbook user can be online especially if connectivity in some countries are priced steeply. that is some serious consideration for google. but i won't panic on this point yet. let's wait and see what they serve us in the next couple of months.
  23. A new development in the OS market players: Google is coming up with its own brand of operating system which will challenge microsoft's windows. By the second half of 2010 (next year, wheee! ), Google Chrome OS will roll out of the google factory for us to enjoy. hopefully we won't have too much problems with it from the onset. and how i wish it could be easy to run the existing apps designed with windows OS in mind, even with just an emulator when google chrome OS debuts. hooray, google! what's on your wishlist for the google chrome OS?
