  1. you're not alone. these spammers are the bane of the internet, so better deal with them with an iron fist, so they don't further disrupt your forum. desperate times, desperate measures. * enlist the help of other members to report such spam, as we do here on Xisto.* promote trustworthy members as moderators and arm them with moderator tools to cull the spammers.* set up a warning system, like what we have here on Xisto.* post #1 = spam links --> account ban!* recurring spam coming from recurring IP --> IP ban!
  2. missing "features" we are used to are getting turned ON one by one... SHOUTBOX [check] -- hooray! :)Similar Topics [check]see? nothing to worry about! more to come!
  3. it's a new theme, so Admin Opaque is still currently configuring it i suppose. don't worry, it'll be sorted out soon enough. i couldn't be sure but we're expecting a forum upgrade too, so maybe we're on the NEW upgraded version already. so there needs more tweaking there too.as for mycents, it's the first thing admin would have made certain that is working even before any upgrade was made. and it should be working even with the new theme and new forum upgrade. we've been expecting that CREDITS system v2.0 will be phased out very soon (to give way to MYCENTS for all members) so the credits indicator (on index.php before) would be gone too.
  4. it's already early hours of december 2 on my side of the globe, but it's still december 1 on other parts of the map... hence it's still your birthday. LOLZ hope you have (had) a FUN and HAPPY birthday.
  5. you're eligible to "buy" hosting already with your mycents earnings, since you already have some virtual cash to cover for the logic plan for a recurring "monthly fee". have Xisto - Support move your hosting from Xisto to the one you purchase with mycents. you can quickly dispel your suspension worries once you have moved. besides credits system v2.0 is nearing its end with the imminent forum upgrade, whereby all members will be asked to completely switch to mycents for our hosting. better get the hang of it sooner than later; it would theoretically ease up on support too if you experience problems moving your hosting since they can address it better this early... unlike when they get a deluge of support requests when the switch is finally enacted in full, when you'd have too wait much longer for support. and welcome back. hope your condition which necessitated your hospital lockup is not that serious, and that you're now better.
  6. it's such a tragedy... just be safe, our friends in india...
  7. "microsoft security" is quite an oxymoron, to be quite frank, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so they say. for the big commercial AV players (and small independent & free ones), i doubt they'd be needlessly shaking on their knees with the news. hopefully there will be nothing underhanded in this product and it doesn't do things other than what it is supposed to do (locate and destroy malicious software) and turn into a malware itself. pray it is not in any way snoopy (adj., aka nosy, not the dog ) and starts digging into extraneous data on a computer running windows OS.

  9. i'm intrigued with TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer, as it seems it has a strong following from readers worldwide. as it is hitting the big screen shortly, i suppose it would be a good time to read it before i watch it. i'm on my first chapter with this book, but i'm concurrently reading EYE OF THE NEEDLE by Ken Follett as well. i read them alternately (on my mobile as i don't want to be lugging books around), depending on my mood. i recently finished THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH and it's "sequel" WORLD WITHOUT END, also by Ken Follett.
  10. the nominations by others above have pretty much covered already what i had in mind for mine. there's no point in being redundant anymore, publicly or privately.... even if SM harasses me some more on the shoutbox. i'll just await the time when voting starts to cast my personal choices among the nominees.
  11. it could be how gmail is coded right now, so nothing much can be done on that part if you are inclined to use the newer version of gmail. note that gmail has a new theme now. however, i did try using the OLDER VERSION (linked at the menu on top right of the page) of COMPOSE MAIL and you can particularly "eliminate" the text link which crops up every time on the newer version. the good thing with the older version is that it only prompts for the LINK, with no additional TEXT TO DISPLAY option in the newer version (which gmail automatically fills up with the text of the URL if you don't customize it yourself). if you want, you can customize it as a "space" or a "dot/period", so it would appear "less visible" (there will always be the telltale portion where the space or dot/period appears). in short, use the OLDER VERSION to compose your mail if you want to use this "trick" of embedding images with links on gmail for a "cleaner" presentation on the recipient's end. if you are bothered with the blue border which appears when an image is linked, sorry can't help you with that since it probably is a browser presentation code, and if you can cheat it not to be displayed on your browser, i don't suppose it would necessarily be the same for others you send your message with image+links to (unless they do the same cheat you did for your browser on their end). if they use OLDER VERSION of gmail when reading their messages, the blue border disappears since that is apparently how it was coded then. for TEST purposes, PM me with your gmail address if you want and i'll zap a sample your way next time.
  12. more than four years worth of attachments, ever since gmail sprung into general consciousness, and i got one. thinking back, it seemed then i couldn't exhaust their initial 1GB storage (then 2GB... and increasing every second thenafter) even after 10 years. fast-forward today, and 7.18GB+ storage space would seem miniscule for my account... and only after 4 years before it reached 99+%. google obviously didn't increase storage space fast enough for me to stand up to it's gmail credo: "...so you'll never need to delete another message." lolz
  13. YES... it finally happened to me. all but 4MB of 7264MB (as of today's count) is used up on my gmail account... (image truncated to show relevant details and obscure others) don't wonder however since this account of mine is something i created as a catchall for emails with attachments i receive (images, videos, documents, powerpoint presentations, etc). i had to delete at least some of the oldest messages (which i figured are not needed anymore) to clear up some space and get it down to at least 90% and still continue to be my catchall email. i haven't really delved much into the HELP section for google accounts, and it is a revelation for me to note that you can upgrade your storage as needed. more than that is the ability to SHARE STORAGE with your GMAIL and PICASA web albums if you run out of free storage in either service. you'll automatically use the space you've purchased to store more pictures and messages up to your new storage limit. just a tip for those who can afford their annual fee for upgrade of course. as for me, i'll still stick with the FREE version for now. free storage they offer still increases everyday anyway.
  14. is that birthdate correct? :P didn't realize you were born last year, nov17. :D happy birthday!

    Fires...

that seems such a rather large area that got evacuated. just glad to know you're at least safe though.
  16. as advised via shoutbox, it would be better if you move your account to the logic plan (with your own custom requirements for your site) using your mycents. you already have earned $4.00 so far, and you can get the basic logic plan (configurations as is, without changes). if you have already done this, you can followup your hosting with Xisto - Support.com using the ticketing system.

  18. maybe you could narrow down your search in this price-range by looking at subcategories of PCs under SUBNOTEBOOKS or NETBOOKS. you didn't mention where you are from though. here in the philippines, the market (mostly students and average net/computers users) has been going bananas over an ultraportable selling for php9,999 (US$223) & php11,499 (US$256) since it was released last april 2008. note: exchange rate is pegged at something between 44 and 45 pesos to a US dollar. the lower priced one comes bundled with a linux-flavored OS, and windows xp home edition for the more pricey one. the more adventurous users who got this netbook have reported they were able to even run vista on it... flawlessly. For specifics, heres the lowdown: a newer model of the Deep Blue H1 recently released in the market comes with a bigger HD, at 60GB. competition is stiff with the asus eee pc, but H1 is somehow winning specifically because of the price, where an asus eee can go nearly twice as much. google keywords search: Deep Blue H1, Blue Digital. see if they are available in the site Saint_Michael suggested above. or search ebay.
  19. you mean just for hosting and domain? i may have something... but referral links are not allowed in the forums. PM me if you're interested, and i will get back to you as soon as i get back online. it's FREE by the way and you can set your own hosting and domain price up to a certain limit. if only xisto's reseller program is free also (and not just the affiliate program which is still kinda vague at the moment). i can't cope up with a monthly reseller fee too, we're in the same boat. btw, it does not exactly fit into your subject as it does not require any "posting" to get into the program. but hey, xisto is offering us a good deal with it's reseller program, if you tie it in with Xisto's mycent system. you just have to get more active in the forums though to make the cut and earn your way to your heart's content with xisto's reseller program.

  23. a long wait-and-see period still before the shipdate. i wish it's not all hype and the improvements not only cosmetic, for once, with the windows 7 they finally send into production. good thing it's still remains in the active development stage at the moment, and they could hear out the feedbacks they are getting from prospective end-users. it would be good if they actually listen though. like their geo-tracking feature (where Windows 7 will let microsoft track your every move).... getting paranoid now? initial reports indicate you won't be able to count the upcoming windows 7 editions in your two hands (unless you got twenty fingers, of course. )... YES, there will be at least TWENTY (20) editions for Windows 7 if we are to believe the rumor mill.
  24. money is the problem? for all the that the armchair economists in the USA who expound that more taxation is all there is that can be done by the incoming US president-elect obama (who hasn't even been inaugurated yet and who is yet to actually begin to clean up the mess by the still sitting US president GWBush's government... until late january next year), here's a thought for you.... how much is the USA spending again in the the war on terror in afghanistan and iraq again on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis? more taxation is not the only way you can afford to pay for all the economic fixes planned by the government. it boils down to WILL POWER... and the audacity by the leadership to properly and realistically realign the priorities of the US government when it comes to government spending. people shouldn't just be mouthing what they hear from the talking heads on the idiot box on issues as broad as the economy. like during the election campaign sorties... joe plumber this, joe plumber that. give the election winner a break (for now), and stop raising the ghost of taxes, taxes and more taxes until it is clearly on the president's IN-tray and he acts on it with dead-sure certainty and he has initialed his name on the "phantom" initiative. wait for his first 100 days in office and see what he comes up with to ease the problems on the economy of america (and consequently, the world)... then let's return to discussing the merits of this subject on ghastly (and ghostly) taxes if it is apt or not. in the meantime, the transition of government is still underway with GWB still clearly on the helm. that's still more than two months the economies of the USA and the world has to bear. obama is not a magic pill for the economic woes of the world... but instead of griping about what and how he is perceived to act, wait until he actually executes an action then critic on it all you want. it seems that a lot of those who haven't voted for him in the elections where the republicans and libertarians and independents lost doesn't want the obama government to succeed. in the end, who ultimately loses is the american people if you don't get behind the man the majority of the democratic process in your country has decided to lead you in these embattled times. in these troubled times, you can't afford to let your government fail you. it is not that you are just to be passive in things your president and your government does.... but the more that you should be active in making your government be accountable for their promises and actions, now that you are off to a fresh start in governance. the USA is not obama, the USA is YOU the american people. obama is your representative to the world... so repudiate him if you see something wrong, but don't forget the good he does when he's finally in office too. we, who come from other parts of the globe and who don't form part of your union of states, can only wish that your president-elect can make the right gestures and actions which will stabilize the economy. and for the people of america, act like one UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not only in name, but in deed as well. a lot of nations look up to you, although it can be also said that the admiration is somehow misplaced. coming from a so-called third world country, i will second the rant posted by jlhaslip.
  25. for a BAD presidential candidate, ONE VOTE is ONE TOO MANY. but for a GOOD one, you gotta bring your vote to be counted by casting that vote, and one vote more against the BAD one makes all the difference in making the GOOD win. i can sympathize with the disillusionment some people may have with elections in general. but when given the chance to vote for someone you firmly believe in, better grab that opportunity. i don't believe people should be given a chance to complain about the government, when they don't exercise their basic right to suffrage. i believe they forfeit their right to complain, when they don't take the chance to make their stand in the polling precincts, no matter how underdog their likely presidential bet is. note: i'm not an american citizen, and i am not under the shadow of any republican or democratic or liberal propaganda. but if i were eligible to vote? i'd say my bet would be the young, idealistic and inspiring one out there.
