  1. That looks awesome! Can I have the GIMP file just in case if I need changes later on (and so that it doesn't take up space on your hard drive).Looks much better then the old banner!
  2. I recently made a topic asking if somebody could make a logo/banner for my forum, in the graphics requests forum. It seems like it isn't there anymore. Is this due to server problems or was it deleted? Thanks
  3. I don't know. If you don't want to pay a commision, stick to webmaster forums though.
  4. The appearance looks too similar to Xisto for me. I would suggest choosing a different, more unique theme. You also have too many boards for such a small forum. I would stick to 15 or less, and delete the rest. The big red "X" at the top of the forum is unappealing and won't encourage members to register. I like the quick register MOD you have installed, so definitely keep that. I would suggest un-protecting a lot of the forums you have on the main page. If guests aren't supposed to see those boards, why even have them shown? Also, if you don't have any topics out, it will discourage people from registering. As a guest, I want to see as much of the community as possible before I join.Another thing you may want to add is a clear focus to the forum. Not many people will join a general chat forum.I made a topic a while ago about creating and promoting a forum, you may want to check it out. Good Luck with your site!
  5. GoDaddy.com has a good market. There are lots of buyers on there, and I'm sure you can get a good price for the domains there.
  6. 1. I would suggest buying the domain second, just so that you can get the design down first, then you can move everything to a new domain. You will have to post a bit more to get a domain, since they are $10 right now.2. It is much better (in my opinion) to start with the basic plan first. Unless you get 500+ uniques a day, or want to store massive amounts of files, 1GB of space, and 10GB of bandwidth should be fine. Last month I had about 125,000 hits on my site and only went through 6GB of bandwidth. A few days ago, when my other site (on the same plan) got a massive amount of traffic (nearly 700 uniques) I only went through 200MB of bandwidth. So unless you run a graphics heavy site, 10GB bandwidth is fine (and if you need to upgrade you can get 50GB bandwidth for only $1 a month more).3. I would say start out paying month by month, then if your site is doing well, post a lot and save up for a year plan. I am trying to save up for a year plan, to bring the cost down a little, but I recently bought a domain. I should have done the opposite and bought a year plan, then get the domain, but they way things are right now, it actually worked out better. Even if each month you earn $5, within a few months, you will have enough for a year plan.
  7. Very informative! That should probably work in CS2, which is what I use.How did you get the letters to look like that? Do you use a certain style?
  8. It may not work well for languages in symbols, but I can tell you that Google Translation works well with Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Many times I go on sites that are in a language other than English, and the Google Translation works fine. Of course it is no substitute for a human translation, but (at least for me) it works fine.
  9. Why would you make a site just to sell it? I won't even consider selling my sites right now, and sometimes if you sell a site, tons of people will leave, or dislike you.
  10. I would say Drupal, even though I haven't used Joomla! Drupal has a bunch of addons (some are a little confusing to install and manage) and the system is neat and user friendly. I have found that search engines love Drupal, and the content is easily indexed. Drupal has a bunch of professional themes that you can install too.
  11. Size: 700x85 Theme: Grunge (similar to the theme I have at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Render: No? Render Theme: Color: #202020 (so that it blends in at the top) Text: ATRHQ.com Other effects: None Please use http://www.border.se/Press/All-That-Re0cd-cover.jpg and just put the text below "ALL THAT REMAINS". I want it so that it blend in with the forum, so possibly have the sides of the banner be clear or #202020. Thanks for your time!
  12. I'm going to be getting a new banner...eventually. I might request one here if some other sites don't make one. I can add icons for different categories, but there isn't enough art for the band for me to do it, they don't have a logo yet.
  13. I think what you have currently is good, but you may want to ask the client what they want the site to look like. If I were looking for people to make a design for my site, I would usually have a site or two that I would want my web design to look like. Some people may see a cool website design and think that it looks great, but if the color was changed a little and some of the design aspects were changed a little, it would suit their needs.
  14. The software looks nice, but can you expand upon what it does? Does it give you member download speed as a non member? Does it download the file without any wait? I know a firefox addon that does this already.
  15. I really like the logos that you made, as they look very professional! The website design looks very professional and neat, and the website loads very fast!Which program do you use? I am running CS2 and I'm looking for some styles and such that might make my work look more professional, if you can give me any suggestions.
  16. I spent a day going through all those legal notices, and was laughing the entire time. These companies have to act professional, and The Pirate Bay can just act like kids. It's so funny :PI agree with you. Companies like Adobe and Apple are just being greedy if they ask for all the stuff to be taken down. Sure it's all copyrighted, but those companies make so much money selling the software to big companies as it is, who cares if they miss out on a few more thousand dollars+ a year. It is nothing for them.If I were a new musician or a programmer, I would probably put my own work on TPB and other torrent sites. The name gets out there, and more people hear about it than if you were to run a small website selling software and music. I know of a few bands that got big (or are getting big) because they have their music available for free download. These companies have to take a chill pill.
  17. Actually that would be bad, because communist nations have (usually) a very good police force. Sure the DMCA is practically useless there, but if a lawsuit was filed the police would be right on them. And I'm sure jail there would be much worse than a Swedish jail. Just watch an episode of Locked up Abroad.I've looked around, and a great number of bands opposed what happened here, including Snow Patrol. The only band that I've heard of that opposes file sharing is Metallica.
  18. The reason why Yahoo did away with it after spending so much money on it is either because they made enough money on it, or because they were losing money on it. I highly doubt that Yahoo didn't make up for the billions of dollars spent on Geocities, after all they have a lot of ads.I didn't know that freewebs had a bandwidth limit. Maybe webs.com is better now.
  19. Thanks for the reply. I plan on replacing the banner at the top with one that blends in with the theme better. The black in the banner looks terrible, and unfortunately the person who made it didn't give me the psd, so I can't editor until he replys to my message.I hope to be able to put more content in soon.
  20. All the images load for me. Which images aren't loading? I have to have the menu load in two images, so that the images are right behind the text.I plan on adding more articles to the site, once I get more time, including lyrics and info about the band. And no, it is not a Metallica forum, it is an All That Remains forum.
  21. http://www.disturbedmb.com/ My main website. Gets the most traffic. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ My newest website. Just opened a few days ago. http://southlandforum.com/ I admin this, but don't own it.
  22. Photoshop is much better. Not only are there many more tutorials for Photoshop, but there are a ton more features. Fireworks, I have used a little, and like it (and for the price, I like it even more), but Photoshop simply has more power, and a lot more features. The only bad thing about Photoshop is that it doesn't bridge with Web Programs (like Fireworks and Dreamweaver do), but there are some addons that you can get buy for Photoshop that have to do with web Design.
  23. That site has to have some of the best flash templates I have ever seen! The copyright isn't annoying, and there's nothing about the templates that make them seem low-grade (a lot of other flash templates are really bad). Unfortunately I don't have Flash, so I can't edit them, but I may use these if I can get somebody else to edit them. Thanks for the link!
  24. I haven't heard much of the new album (I could only stand a few seconds of "Know Your Enemy"), but I can say that the new Green Day is much worse than the 90's Green Day. The new Green Day has turned too much into a punk rock and mainstream band, it disgusts me. The old Green Day (Dookie, Warning...) was much more original and had a better sound. Now it is more of just screaming and yelling "Fu*k" every other second.
  25. Thanks for the comments. I had somebody make me a banner, but it's taking them close to a month to finish it, so I may just make a better one myself.
