  1. The "caused by carbon dioxide" part doesn't exist. Global Warming refers to a rise in the amount of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which is causing the temperature to rise. The main reason for this is because of our industrial activities, namely taking carbon (coal/oil) out of the ground that has been there for millions of years and releasing it into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. In actuality, carbon dioxide is one of the weaker greenhouse gases. The problem is while it took many hundreds of millions of years for the oil and coal in the ground to be formed, we are spitting it out in only a few hundred years, which is a ridiculous timescale (for more information, watch the expansion pack to How It All Ends on YouTube).
  2. OK, so on Xisto I can't log in (must have forgot my password) and when I request a password reminder, it just shows me a blank page! Plus I am absolutely sure I had my password correct. Is something going on with Xisto?EDIT: I can log into Xisto, but I can't log into the billing part, which is where I need to go.EDIT2: I was able to send a ticket to Xisto, so I guess I'll be getting an answer from them.
  3. You are not acknowledging electric cars. Cars will not be a thing of the past, they'll just be electric. Unless, of course, they find a way to create nuclear fusion cars.
  4. I wish people would use better grammar. Even though there are just as much GCC (Global Climate Change, aka Global Warming) denialists that have bad grammer, it makes it look like GCC is just made up by stupid people, which it isn't. GCC is not likely at all to make humanity go extinct. Humans are spread out all over the planet, and there is no way a change in climate will result in extinction. Also, the planet will do fine despite GCC. The reason GCC is such a problem is it will drastically change our way of life. The changes in climate will make it very difficult to yield crops, resulting in food shortage, which will cause famine, even in the most developed countries. Chaos will ensue as citizens fight over food and water, potentially resulting in collapse of government in many countries. In the end, humanity itself will survive. The survivors of the crisis will find a way. But I can't say the same for the ones who are killed by the crisis. Denialists, this means you, your children, and your grandchildren. Do you really want this future for your children? Are you seriously willing to risk the future of your own flesh and blood just to avoid paying a little extra taxes? Also, did I mention that you yourself will probably end up in this crisis? Also, let's not forget: Even if GCC is fake (which I hope it is), there is only so much oil on the planet. We are going to run out eventually. Do you seriously want your country to fall behind? If the supply of oil worldwide runs out, all countries dependent on it will be out of its power source; chaos will ensue, and the country will fall behind. Since I am making this post, I think I will refute two popular arguments made by denialists. Many GCC denialists make the claim that since trees need carbon dioxide, if we try to reduce CO2 levels, trees will die. I have two things to say: First, trees don't need carbon dioxide to survive, they need it to grow. They can survive without carbon dioxide. Second, I don't think trees have become dependent on us releasing extra carbon dioxide into the air in order to get what they need. We have only been spitting extra carbon dioxide for around 200 years, and plants have been on Earth for many hundreds of millions of years. The method of fighting GCC is not to somehow "cleanse" the atmosphere of CO2 as you imagine it; we simply want to stop releasing extra CO2 into the air that gets released when we burn coal and oil (so stop burning coal and oil). Since plants have survived for as long as they have without extra carbon dioxide, I think they will do just fine if we stop polluting the atmosphere. Also, GCC denialists tend to make the argument that there's nothing we can do about GCC because it's natural, so why bother? Well, I say to you that it must be some coincidence that the raise in CO2 and tempurature happened to start when we started the industrial revolution. Are you seriously going to lie to yourself and say we are not having an effect? We are having a major effect. NASA claims that volcanoes release 0.1 tons of carbon every year, while our oil activities release 7 tons. I don't think NASA is really that stupid and it is very dangerous to gamble that they are. Also, you are probably right that we can't stop GCC from affecting our lives. But that doesn't mean we should just give up. Do you give up when you are losing a game of football? No, you keep playing and hope for the best. So why should we give up here? Because if we lose this, we will face major disaster on a wordwide basis. If you give up, you fail yourself and your kids. EDIT: If you are still a skeptic, go to YouTube and watch a video called How It All Ends, and its expansion pack (which begins with "How It All Ends: Index).
  5. A very stupid double-post. Funny that it's already been 4 years and he still hasn't been reported. I personally don't understand what's so wrong with cloning or stem-cell research. Cloning is just a different way of creating an animal, and stem cells are not alive yet. What really sucks for me, though, is my mom thinks this stuff is so awful. I just don't get it. I also don't get how cloning a dinosaur would be so bad. "Dinosaur" is nothing more than a broad classification of reptiles that existed in a certain timeframe millions of years ago, but society always thinks of a big tyrannosaurus when they hear the word "Dinosaur". That's a lot like saying that mammals are small and weak, looking only at the mouse. If a dinosaur was cloned, it would be no different than cloning any other animal. Why heck, you just might make a tyrannosaurus your best friend.
  6. Um, you do realize that this topic was just a thought from a random person, and that he probably isn't a scientist, right? Scientists don't create resolutions to problems. They research and report their findings. Scientists are not at all responsible for "revolutionary ideas"; rather, they are responsible for learning stuff that caused other people to have these revolutionary ideas. Scientists are merely curious people who wish to learn more about the universe.
  7. I don't think it to be practical to drill deep into the Earth to build big fancy electromagnets. Besides, like HDuffRules said, it isn't really possible to extract that heat. So what you propose would burn the entire world's oil and coal supply in a few years, not to mention speed up the process of Global Climate Change; not really practical.
  8. Here's what will happen if we run out of oil:If we are not ready and are still dependent on oil, everything would shut down and the world would go into chaos because there's no fuel left.If we have an alternative energy source by then, nothing significant will happen to us.Hopefully, we will be using alternative energy before we run out of oil. Besides the threat of Global Climate Change, running out of oil will severely hurt us in and of itself. And the scary thing is we're almost out. It won't be very long before we run out. And if we do, it may get us into the third world war.So a message to all those who are against preventing Global Climate Change: If we allow the oil supply to run out, we will surely hurt ourselves. We can only survive if we switch from oil to some alternative before the oil supply runs out; if we don't, all countries still using oil will crumble. That means the United States.
  9. I don't get it. If people thought he was stupid in 2004, how did he get elected again?Oh well. What matters is he's not in office anymore.
  10. Everyone please listen to this guy. There is nothing uniquely wrong with this generation. We're just like you when you were a teen, we just use different slang words and have different styles. This trend has been going on for decades, it didn't start with us.
  11. Improve the economy (stop importing oil) and prevent the possibility of Global Warming at the same time... WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!!!
  12. I just thought of a cool idea. The reason trees take away CO2 and give of oxygen is because they split the carbon atom from it and use that carbon on their structure (i.e. for growing). What if we had a carbon-based machine that did something similar? Then we could help reduce CO2 and manufacture something at the same time.
  13. Corrected that for you. That is a problem. People tend to carve their opinion in stone and never change it; this is why so many people still don't believe in Global Climate Change. For some reason it's natural for people to keep arguing what they think, deciding what side they are on first and then looking for evidence. Because of this, if someone believes something, they are just not likely to change their opinion, no matter how ridiculous it starts to sound.
  14. Actually, no, it's not very easily transmitted. HIV dies very quickly in the air, so the only ways that HIV can be transferred are through mixing of fresh blood and sex. The only problem is that it is an STD and so many people just aren't smart about sex and/or are unable to restrain themselves from it.
  15. HIV and Cancer have been around for hundreds of years. They didn't just pop up recently. And it's not that the diseases are getting "harder", it's that we just don't have a cure for them yet.For example, take HIV. HIV is a virus that attacks your Helper T cells, which normally tell your immune system what type of virus it is. Without helper T cells, your immune system is entirely unable to respond, resulting in little or no symptoms. This is why we didn't know about HIV hundreds of years ago; it just didn't show in people. Also, I don't think that cures cause more problems. If anything, change in climate and atmosphere would cause problems. For example, some people (I don't say "scientists" because I don't know for sure that they are scientists) believe that Global Climate Change ("Global Warming") will cause more mosquitoes to live in certain areas, causing an epidemic of Malaria (I think, or maybe it's some other disease) transmitted by mosquitoes.
