Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot on my (slow and old) laptop and see how it goes.

I posted on a similar thread. I'm debating with myself as to whether to give it another try. I've heard about how it may have some issues with websites that were designed primarily with Firefox and/or IE in mind.

What Is Movable Type? Movable Type 3.2
shigajet replied to atomicnacho's topic in General Discussion
I've check out Movable Type before, and although there are a lot of great features available on it, I'll stick with Wordpress for my personal site. -

The banner ads are not as annoying, and the google ads are the simplest and least distracting. Pop-ups, on the other hand, bother me a lot.

Welcome aboard, kevlar557!Sorry to hear what happened to your Xisto account, but you can always make a fresh start. Thanks for the feedback. Speaking of town/city mergers, I just moved into a newly created city last month. Since the total population is around 50,000 in a fairly large area, it doesn't look any different than when it was two separate towns. I do see some new stores and single family homes are being built in my area, though. Traffic hasn't really been a problem so far, although that may change in the future. There was talk of a new big department store that will be built within walking distance of my new place.

International Schools:better Way Of Learning?
shigajet replied to Peaktao's topic in General Discussion
Japan has quite a lot of international schools -especially in the big cities. The main adventage they have over public schools is that your child can meet children from other countrires, and more likely be more fluent in English by the time he or she finishes. The downside is that international schools in Japan are EXPENSIVE. -
I simply just learned HTML on my own. Basically, all it took was viewing some code of how a web page is built, open up Notepad and start editing, figuring out the different parameters along the way. If you want to use a WYSIWYG editor, that's fine, but you'll get more satisfaction writing the code yourself and surf the net for other tips. If you get to learn CSS as well, that'll help you a lot. Will they also teach you PHP later on the course, by the way?

Mambo and/or Xoops are good choices for building standard professional websites. If you're just making a personal website, however, go with either Nucleus CMS or WordPress.

Welcome aboard, sandbox! I think you've found a great community/web hosting service here at Trap 17. The people are friendly and really supportive. Topics and threads abound for whatever may suit your interests, and if it's not there you can start a new discussion. For the record, I'm 35, but I'm certain I don't smell like an old man yet (at least not the last time I checked). Anyway, I digress. Hope you enjoy your stay, have fun experimenting with the open-source software and post as much as you like on the forums.Cheers!

Well, your best bets are either Adobe Photoshop and/or Firewworks. Both have really top-notch effects. The GIMP is a solid open-source (read:free) graphics program that can do just about all the effects of the two programs I mentioned above.

Website I Made For School for office furniture
shigajet replied to wassie's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I checked out the website just now, and I really like it - especially the moving sky effect in the top banner. Nice backgrounds, too. The only problem is that there was no additional info when I clicked on the links. Are you planning on adding some content (even if it's the standard sample text) in the near future? -
I don't think the members would complain, but then again check with the admins/mods and perhaps check the rules to make sure.

Political Parties Vote what party you are
shigajet replied to jae-unit's topic in General Discussion
I'd probably vote for none of the above, whether I lived in the States, Canada or even in Japan. The way I see it, I think many polititians end up failing to keep their election promises after they win. -
I use Limewire for most of the small files I download. I've yet to use BitTorrent, although I heard a lot of good things about it. Apart from that, Firefox's download manager works very well for general downloads.

Not too shabby. Like a few others have said before, try adding a border, make teh text a bit bigger and maybe try changing the colour scheme a little. Other than that, it looks fine.

Yahoo Mail Beta New Look for Yahoo Mail
shigajet replied to cse-icons's topic in Science and Technology
I just took a look at the beta upgrade for Yahoo Mail and it looks much slicker this time around. I especially like the tab features and the "Outlook/Thunderbird" feel to the new design. Good on the folks at Yahoo! -
Introducing Myself As A New Member Hello Trap17 Members
shigajet replied to jlhaslip's topic in Introductions
Welcome aboard! I think you made a good choice in joining the Trap 17 community/web hosting service. I've been a member since this past spring and so far it has proven to be very reliable. Like yourself, I've been host-hopping and each one either started to place forced ads and/or cut down the web space to less than what was stated. Anyway, glad to hear you'll be taking part in the discussions regularly. Plenty of topics/threads abound, and the people here are very supportive.I'm a Canadian who is currently living in Japan, but I'm also looking foward to the season getting started next month. If you want to talk hockey, feel free to send me a message.See you on the boards! -
I think with any online payment system, I'd check it with a fine-tooth comb to see if it is legit before I would put any personal and/or credit card information. I know I used to do some online ordering a few years ago, but I don't do it at all these days.

Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus of many to say that I'm quite pleased with the service since I became a member of the Trap 17 community back in April. I also think the hosting credits system is really great, since there are times when I'm not able to post for an extended period of time. Many other competitors required the member to reach a set quota per month until I found this hosting service.

I think it depends on the environment these kids have grown up in. Parents can only do so much, and they can easily point the finger at any media they deem as "offensive" for their children. Of course, many kids learn a lot from others (especially their peers). I would just ignore it if I heard them use the f-word frequently, as I think sooner or later, they'll say it less and less as they mature.
