  1. I think newspapers will still be around. As much as it becoming more common to read the news on the internet, there's nothing like having a hard copy in your hands to look at. Sure, the news is constantly fresh on the internet, but it' nice to have something you can read if you're in a situation where you don't have access to a computer. As well, don't forget that there are just as many people in the world who would prefer to have a good old-fashioned newspaper delivered to their door (kinda like a morning ritual).
  2. Since you'e thinking of building a big site, either xoops or mambo (sp?) are some good CMSs I'd recommend. If it's for a personal site, perhaps go with WordPress or Nucleus.
  3. I'm still using 0 (or 0-1) % of the Gmail space that is provided...usually because I delete any mail that's no longer useful to me and then empty the Trash folder, even thought I don't have to. I guess I just like to keep the Trash empty all the time.
  4. Personally, I like the design of Gmail. It's simple, clean and it doesn't have those annoying pop-up/banner ads to bother you. If anything, the google ads are not distracting at all and blend into the interface. As well, it loads up very quickly, unlike some of the other free Web e-mail services I've tried out.
  5. Of course, these days you have to be careful of what you download. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is...and probably may affect how your PC operates. I never click any pop-up/banner ads, and I do as much research on a product I may need - not so much for how my computer looks but how it will make it operate more efficiently. As someone pointed out earlier, there are many people out there who don't realize that they've downloaded spyware/adware - since it can be hidden within the program itself.
  6. Hi there! I've been looking into using one of the image gallery programs provided in cpanel - both Coppermine and Gallery look really good. Although many of the opinions out there are varied, I'd like to know which one would you recommend out of the two? Coppermine is widely available and has lot of skins, but what about Gallery (especially the new version that just came out)?
  7. In Canada, I used to use a Fido cell phone. At that time, I landed my first full-time salaried job after graduation and bought a refurbished phone made by Nortel (which looks like a brick compared to the ones these days). For the record, I was 27 when I bought that first mobile phone. Three years later after I landed in Japan, I signed up with J-Phone (now Vodafone) and I've stayed with them ever since. I still have my old Nokia, although I've been thinking of getting a 3G phone soon - as I'll be able to use it overseas, too.
  8. Welcome aboard, Stone Cold! I think you may find a few links/threads about wrestling for you to add to - and build more credits in the process. The people in this community are friendly and very supportive. If you have problem, feel free to contact one of the admins/mods.I hope you enjoy your stay at Trap 17 and we look forward to seeing your site when you have it online. 9. Sure beats out the old Sharp TV/VCR combo we have. It's about 32". It's still working, but we're trying to save up some money for other things. Oh well.
  10. Glad to hear there are a few J-pop/rock fans out there. My favs include: Mr. Children, globe, Orange Range (Even to this day, I think their best song so far is "Hana"), Southern All Stars (Still cranking out great music after 20- years), Spitz, Puffy, Ken Hirai and Utada Hikaru.
  11. Australia is one of several places I'd like to visit someday. I've heard a lot of great things about it from the land to the weather to the scuba diving off the Gold Coast. I've even met a few people from Australia, and they seemed to me to be very laid back. Just gotta save up more money....or maybe win a trip?

  13. I wouldn't mind if Google took over the world. They've come up with some neat ideas and they just produce more and more goodies for all of us to download and try out.
  14. I have Windows ME (which I received for free through some connections) on my old laptop. (It was already used when I bought it.) Although I sometimes ran into some problems, there weren't really any serious problems...that is until earlier this year when I ended up reformatting the hard drive and re-installing the OS. Mind you I've had the computer for about 5 years and I'm still amazed it's still working. On the newer computer I have Windows XP Home and it's so much better.So..basically, Windows ME is fine if you just want to use the computer as a word processor and not much more.
  15. Welcome aboard! Interesting to hear that you're researching Indian music. When I was in university, I did a double major in English literature and Music history for my bachelors degree. Anyway, I think you'll enjoy the community here as the people are friendly and very supportive. So have fun, post as much as you like and if you have a website ready, post it here in the Trap 17 showcase threads.See you on the boards!
  16. I've been debating whether to get an Apple laptop for some time now. As much as I like Windows XP, I also like the idea of not being bombarded with adware/spyware. On top of that, it seems that there are a growing number of Apple users in the company that I work for.
  17. Gas prices these days are crazy. In Japan, they've always hovered around the 110-120 yen mark, but in Canada it used to be around 60 cents to the litre. Now it's almost the same as the gas prices in Japan.

  21. At first, I thought you might've posted in the "No Post Count" forums (basically meaning you get no hosting credits for your post), but after seeing in the Sig forum, you should be given credits. You may want to let the admins/moderators know about the problem and see what they can do.
  22. I currently use Limewire for music files, and BitTorrent for larger video files. I found both to be really great programs. As well, at one time I used Shareaza - an open-source P2P program. Not bad, but I frequently had trouble getting a connection.
  23. I've always liked the Sony Playstation 2. It's a great device, it can double as a DVD player, it has USB/FireWire ports, it's backwards compatible (meaning you can play old PS games on it) and it seems that the PS2 is getting smaller (or should I say more compact) here in Japan....and pretty soon the PS3 will come out. There's also a lot more games available for the PS2 than for the other consoles.I guess what it really comes down to is what kind of games you are intending to play on the gaming console.
  24. Does the hosting account get suspended at 0 credits? Perhaps I may have misread that it would get suspended if the credits went under 6 days.
  25. Even though I have more than enough credits to keep my hosting account alive, sometimes there are days when I cannot write a nice, lengthy quality posts. Usually I post a reply to what's been on the board for a while. Once in a while, if the forums don't have it already, I'll post a new topic in which the content is a bit more than a reply.
