  1. I used to wear glasses. I started to wear them when I was in Grade 12. At that time I was in high school, and I was also getting my eyes tested at the licence centre. I suspected that I was slowly becoming near-sighted, as I started having problem seeing the board from the back of the class. Sure enough, when I went to try for my driver's licence the eye test revealed that I needed glasses. And I wore them up until a couple of years ago. Now I mainly wear contact lenses, although I take them off and put my glasses on again after I get home.So...in total I've worn some form of corrective lenses for almost 20 years.
  2. I've been really happy with Gmail; love the conversation style of messages, the filters, RSS features, etc. I've been using it for about a year now, and it's more or less become my regular email adress.
  3. Welcome aboard, and a happy new year to you, too! I think you found a great community here. The people are very supportive and there are many topics where you can share your knowledge with others. Hope to see more of you on the boards!
  4. The new G5 models from Apple are impressive, but I personally wouldn't buy one myself. I'd be more than happy if I had an iBook (or a PowerBook).
  5. Welcome aboard, Qube! I think you found a great community with a great hosting service here at Xisto. Among the many topics on the forums are the tutorials, which I'm sure can help you learn a few tricks and enhance your computer skills. Hope to see you around on the boards and good luck in college!Cheers!
  6. Although I'm mainly a coffee drinker, sometimes I indulge in green tea, oolong tea, jasmine tea, English Breakfast tea, Earl Grey tea and herbal tea...depending on my mood.
  7. I link up one of my Gmail accounts with Thunderbird (my E-mail client of choice), and I've never had any security issues so far. Both seem very solid programs and I wouldn't change it at all.

  10. Well, I haven't accessed my account yet, but I'll go through sportytalk's suggestion. It's just that in the end I feel that I don't a forum for the site at this point although it's currently taking up about 30-odd megs of space.
  11. In Japan, there's a competing anti-virus software called Trend Micro Virus Buster, which many people have recommended to me over Symantec Norton Utilities. I'm willing to give it a shot, but I'm wondering if people other parts of the world have heard any good (or not so good) results from Trend Micro products.
  12. Thanks for the tip. Since I don't have any posts that I need to keep, I'll access my account via FTP and delete the directory.
  13. Got a quick question. A while ago installed the phpBB forum software via Fantastico (cpanel). If I want to remove it manually, what steps do I need in order for me to do so without causing any problems. If you could advise me on this, or otherwise provide a link, that would be helpful. Many thanks in advance!
  14. I just logged into cpanel a few minutes ago and have noticed the "Unlimited MB" in my storage. Is this for real - or some server error? (I'm secret hoping it's the former). What went on during the holidays?
  15. Just goes to show what happens when a big company tries to rush its latest (and greatest?) product out for the Christmas rush...perhaps they should have tested it some more and delayed the release date?
  16. Welcome aboard, Arnz! Interesting to hear that your Art major is in computer art/design. You might want to try your hand at one of the sig contests. Do you use Firewowks as well as Photoshop, by the way? I think you've found a great community here, and there's certainly no shortage of topics to make a comment or two on...so building up hosting credits shouldn't be a problem there. Anyway, more about me...I'm from Canada myself although I currently live and work in Japan. I just started the holidays so now I have a bit more spare time to post and drop by the shout box once in a while. So...if you have a question related to Japan (culture, people, language, etc.), feel free to PM me!Hope you enjoy your stay, and we hope to see more of you in the future!See you on the boards!
  17. I've been pleased with Gmail - I even access it via my Thunderbird client! Although I don't use my Yahoo account as often now, I'm curious to see this new interface that they have in beta.
  18. Hi again.Just thought I'd answer tuddy's questions here.1) I propose one photo per month at the start and see how many people bite. If it's popular enough, I'll bring it up to one photo per week (wherever I can find them).2) Members are given 1-2 weeks to submit their captions.3) Any member can vote, and the do it via the same system as SOTW.4) 10 bonus credits would be nice grand prize, with 5 credits going to the runner-up.
  19. As well, once you install Picasa it automatically becomes the default application when you transfer your pics from your digital camera/memory card to your PC. Neat, isn't it?
  20. Welcome aboard, theplok! Great to hear you found Xisto! We have a great community here and the people are very supportive. Hope you enjoy your stay here and we hope to see more of you on the boards in the near future. Feel free to post as much as you like!Cheers!
  21. I primarily use my mobile phone for sending text messages and e-mail. As well, I usually set it to vibration mode, so as not to let others know that I have a message/phone call for me. Like many others, other people who use the mobile phone (NOT hands free) while driving is also a major pet peeve of mine, not to mention it's a potential danger to others on the roads.
  22. I can only cook the simple meals - any kind of pasta, pancakes and soup. At least I've gone beyond cooking Kraft Dinner during my university days.
  23. I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I would like the forums to have a forum/contest thread where people submit witty captions to some of the weirdest photos/drawings from the mass media. Kinda like a "test your wit" contest among the community.Anyway, I would like to hear what you think of this idea.

    Hey Everyone

Welcome aboard, Rock. I also did a bit of host-hopping over the past several years before I found T17. I think it's one of the best deals on the, and building/maintain your hosting credits by posting is easy if you are active in the forums. I'm sure you'll find something to talk about with the variety of topics/threads we have, and the people here are very supportive. Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay. Come back and post as much as you like!See you on the boards!
  25. I heard about myspace.com and how it seems to be one of the biggest communities on the web, but I don't particularly care for it. I went with a similar service (but without so many adverts), since I love to listen to music on my PC and it was a great way to see who else had similar musical tastes as me.
