  1. Okay, felt this would be the best place to ask, but, when it comes to websites and design aspects, which do you prefer, especially as regards graphics: simple graphics with text and pics that don't overwhelm things, or busier ones, especially if you're looking at a business site, with more graphic explanation of what the site's about? I ask this because I'm trying to settle a disagreement between me and my guy about this. He says that you need more than just a couple of pics in a button/graphic to make it interesting for the people looking at this business site. I've always thought that the best sites were the more simplistic ones....what do ya'll think?
  2. well, what kind of HTML codes were you looking for? I say this because there are some specialized sites out there for, say web layouts, but also ones that only deal with specific kinds of HTML codes. What did you want?
  3. I'm sorry that imajin's not going to be with us, but, just in case there are people out there wanting to be able to post blogs on their site without having to use mySQL, I've found a little loophole in the way blogger is run that enables you to publish their blogger "software" as php files...for example, on the "PUBLISHING" page under the Settings tag, where it asks for the blog filename, you put something like "index.php" and it formats the main blog page correctly according to the header.inc and footer.inc php files on your server, like I have it on mine, and just do the same when it asks for the archiving filename on the "ARCHIVING" page under the same tag. Found this out by accident, but seems to work seamlessly for me, and I don't have to worry about mySQL, since they always have a copy on blogger.com's servers.
  4. other than w3school, is there any other main sites about php that may be geared more towards newbies or, say people like me that have a lot of HTML experience, but not that much when it comes to php and its inherent "programming" aspect?
  5. My boyfriend's aunt and cousin are both addicted to this game...his cousin used to spend all his free time playing this game, and now his aunt does it too. I agree that anything in moderation can be a good thing, but most people into roleplaying games like this have a tendency to go too far...I don't see things like Warcraft being a good thing at all.
  6. I don't know how good it might be for comparing more than prices about digital cameras at this point, but has anyone ever heard of or tried http://www.pricegrabber.com/?ut=95385382648b3aa3? I've found them to be rather competetive with such sites as overstock.com on prices they can find for things.
  7. I have two blogs that I actively post in, and one I kinda sorta do from time to time. The two main ones are my livejournal, which is more about my adult work and adult job and the blogger one is mainly for nevernormal.com updates and such. I sometimes post things from my other two blogs to my myspace blog, but I highly prefer livejournal and blogger over myspace. I also read something in yesterday's Dear Abby about the cautionary needs about blogs and potential job hunting...it's the second letter down: http://www.uexpress.com/dearabby/2005/12/4/widow-realizes-the-perfect-gift-is
  8. Wow, thanks for the heads up about a great site! Wonderful layouts...may try one of them out for a new site of mine...dunno yet. I have this thing about trying to do things on my own whenever I can, except when it comes to my livejournal layout, cuz I sooo don't know what I'm doing there. But what about the rest of you? Do you see other peoples' designs as a last resort when you get fried about design ideas, or do you feel it's okay to use them (with proper credit, of course) if you like the design and it goes with your site ideas?
  9. Okay, I only have one stock image site to add, but this one is HUGE and has always been a big help to me when I want to find freeware graphics I won't get yelled at for using: gettyimages.com
  10. Okay, I've been looking all over the web, and even tried googling it (without much help) and the majority of the templates I can find seem to be geared more towards blogger...I'm sure there's a way to work around it, but I have a feeling it would be more trouble than it would be worth. So far, the only website I've found with LJ templates is createblog.com. Does anyone know of any other ones? Ones that I wouldn't necessarily have to pay for? (I have a paid livejournal account, so I can pretty much use any kind of layout.)
  11. Getting back to the task at hand, it seemed like bnbrown had more than two questions, or would you say that that's all you had to ask about, because, from the title of your post, it seemed like you had a lot of questions...have you thought about maybe trying to put them all into one post, since one big post (I believe) counts as more days than multiple small posts? Just a thought.
  12. I think he means the Rokr with Itunes from Cingular. As for the capabilities, I looked it over a few days ago, and it looks like a nice phone, but it has a couple of drawbacks. 1) The only way to get music on this phone is to subscribe to Itunes, which typically charges about $1 a song (99 cents, if you wanna get technical) and the Rokr can hold about 100 songs, so, if you wanted to fill up the data card, you'd spend about another $100 just to get it outfitted. And, if that wasn't enough of a slap in the face (that and the fact that the retail price on the Rokr, not counting in the price of a two year plan, is $150), the nice big media card that comes with it is very hard to be able to access and get into and out of the phone. If you want just a basic phone, there's plenty of other choices that won't crack your wallet as much. Heck, if you want a phone that plays mp3s, the Nokia 6682 has the same capabilities, but you can just save mp3 files direct from your computer to the data card that's easier accessible that the one on the Rokr....but, it's only available, as of yet, by calling Cingular directly....that and my boyfriend says it has bugs in the text messaging receiving area, but other than that, he loves his new toy! lol
  13. That seems to be the case, since I've only been unlucky enough to try and access things twice during maintenance, but, on the good side, I think the reason why the mySQL's down may be that part of the maintenance is to back said SQL up...who knows?
  14. okay, it happened again...prolly just maintenance, but if that was the case, wouldn't the Admin notify us or something? Just wondering...not criticizing.
  15. Sounds kinda like my guy's Nokia 6682, though I don't think it has all those capabilities...comes with a 64KB memory card, with cool hidden camera features and mp3 player, even though I don't think it's got Real Player...he got it direct from Cingular, since it's not out in stores yet, and it apparently still has some bugs in it. He tried to replace it with the iTunes Rokr, but that thing's a ripoff, cuz, even though it's got a bigger memory card, the only way to play music on that one is to buy the software, and pay 99 cents per song, which, since it has capacity for about 100 songs, means you shell out an extra $100 or so for the songs, on top of the $100/$200 you pay for the phone! Personally, I'm gonna wait til they have a nice affordable one like the Nokia...without the bugs.
