well, i just did a major cleanup on my desktop. i download EVERYTHING to my desktop and i do a lot of research on the internet and my whole desktop was not only full, when i would download something, i wouldn't even be able to see it on the desktop. i woulda taken a picture, but i like my privacy in what i do on the internet :)i think i already uploaded a picture on the first page of the thread anyway. whew! took me a couple hours and i deleted and organized everything. now it's only 25% full

well, it's just a no WIN WIN situation. i would try to estimate how many videos you plan on uploading on a regular basis, figure out the average bandwidth being used, and then you can determine what direction you want to go. how many videos you upload and the bandwidth isn't your only concern though. it's how many visitors you project for the future too. so you can work out a formula to determine how much resources will be used up per visitor. after you do that, then all you really need to worry about is how many visitors are coming to your site. this will give a clearer picture which will allow you to make any necessary changes and prepare for them.....whether it's upgrading your hosting package, or uploading the videos to a video sharing site. i would start prepare for any changes now though because if you find you can't afford to upgrade, you will have to upload all the videos to a video sharing site and delete the videos you already uploaded to your shared server. so try to prepare now in knowing how many visitors you project coming to your site in the future and knowing whether you are able to afford an upgrade it's a huge jump from the 1.99 plan to the 6+ plan. an alternative to jumping to a new plan is that you can open a support ticket and ask them to increase your bandwidth or disk space. you can get 5x more bandwidth for an extra $1 per month, and 5x more disk space for $1 a month. so if you go this route and increase both for example, you would be paying $4 instead of $2, but you would still not be paying the $6+ per month if you decided to upgrade to a new package level. as you can see, this option is a lot more affordable for your needs than jumping to a whole new plan.

i have embedded videos in different file formats on my websites. my first concern is how the video looks and how i need to give the play, stop, pause controls to my visitor. the annoying videos i come across on other website is where no controls are given to the visitor except for maybe a pause option if you click the video itself.if you upload the video yourself, your two concerns would be space and bandwidth. the only way around this is to upload your video to a video sharing site and embed from there. you wont use up resources, but you will have to use the skin provided by the video sharing site. for example, youtube. this can look less professional though so it's not recommended for business websites. for personal websites, this would be the solution. you can also limit long the video plays, but usually this isn't an option. obviously the shorter the video, the less resources it will use.unfortunately everything is give and take.....so when you're getting something good from one option, you are giving up something else so in the end, it's about personal preference. there is no right or wrong way. it's based on personal preference, and yours seem to be to limit the resource.now you can also limit the quality of the video when uploading to your server, but i highly don't suggest sacrificing the quality of the video. at least that would be MY preference. you would do this through whatever video editing software you use.flv is a good format. i use that and mp4.... here is an example of a cheesy video i made in flv format using flowplayer... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ i normally wouldn't promote this site public here but google banned the domain from the serps and it was not very good quality. i used animoto to make the video on my free account, and then used camtasia to screen capture it and then convert it to flv. i didn't spend much time on it, but as you can see, i only have the pause and play controls. it needs a stop button but this is a semi throwaway site i have so i didn't spend much time on it. it's only 30 seconds, so the resources it uses is close to nothing. if it was 3-5 minutes long, i think i would have considered uploading the video to youtube, and then grabbing the embed code from there. slv was good here as it shrunk my video file size down to around 2200kb the original file size was over 30mb but that was in camtasia format. if i were to have used mp4, the file size would have been over 3kkb which is about 50% more resources than using the .flv format

well actually, i have been getting timed out when trying to load the forum. also, i always check mark the box to stay logged in so i don't have to log in every time and it's being reset to me having to log in more now. i think obviously someone is working on the forum to fix the errors and such that pop up every now and then, but i doubt any significant changes will be occuring as i said before in another thread that there are rumors that opaque is working on a new ks. so until that is finished, i wouldn't hold your breath on any significant changes. just maybe the ones that are causing the errors and possibly changes to speed up the loading time hopefully if it IS the server

wow. the way you explain things makes you look like an angel. like you don't have any chip on your shoulder with this forum or with me at all. i really love the way you word things hahaanyway, if it's any consolation,i haven't received any mycents in a couple weeks. obviously the script is failing to run. personally i am not worried only because from the past, i can expect to be credited when it does run. also, if it hasn't run in a while and your not being credited, it's as simple as writing a support ticket once. if you don't get it resolved and your hosting is do, put attn: opaque and let shree handle your ticket so you don't have your account suspended.see there? it really isn't as bad as you're making everything seem. heck. if worse comes to worse and you find yourself needing hosting, just pay the $30 a year of hosting and domain. even a teenager without a job can afford that. life doesn't have to be as cruel or complicated as you make it out.

i am not flaming you. i am just stating it how it is. you're being a hypocrite. you are complaining about the quality of the forum and how it is being run on multiple threads. i think people get the point by now without you having the need to repeat yourself over and over again. what's the point? it only brings the forum down that much more when new users come. so either complain and be a part of the problem, and be a hypocrite, or listen to some solid advice. obviously it's your choice. i am not here to argue about anyone's freedom of speech. again, i will bet that you have recieved more mycents in the last month complaining and repeating yourself than earning mycents by posting something constructive or interesting.your response was "no one is going to stop me from doing so". what kind of response is that? ofcourse nobody is going to stop you. just like if i DID start to flame you, nobody would stop me either. get my point? we have the power to know right from wrong though and make the wisest choices based on that.yea, i have complained a lot in the past, but i usually get it out in one or two posts in a thread or i just start a topic in the vent where i can vent to my hearts content. you having the mindset that you will do whatever you want wont help. and if your asking the question why i am concerned about this and a lot of my attention is drawn to you, then the answer is really simple. you draw a lot of attention on yourself right now. just write the support ticket and hope they can resolve whatever problem you have here. that was my whole point in my last post. i am surprised you haven't done this sooner. not like it's gonna help any. i doubt it will.....but it's better than repeating yourself over and over again in multiple threads here

yes, please write a support ticket as i am getting tired of the same things being posted by you. i wouldn't be surprised if you are earning the most mycents from your repeated posts saying basically the same thing complaining about the forumso yes, i think your best bet is to write a support ticket. if your issues don't get resolved, i would encourage you to move on somewhere else that you can be satisfied with......and i thought *I* complained a lot

i am sorry to hear about your incident after coming back from what i hope was an enjoyable vacation. i can understand FULLY what you had to go through and the effect it must have had. with a post like this, it's good to inform people on how to avoid such things in the future. unfortunately, the world isn't safe from people so people have to take steps to protect themselves and their property.when anyone leaves the house and the house is going to be empty whether your just going to the store or on a vacation, there are 3 simple steps that can help protect your home while you're away.1: turn on a couple lights by a window in the front of the home. if you're going away on vacation, set a timer for lights to go on every so often.2: turn on a radio so you can hear music or someone talking from outside your front door3: don't tell anyone you are leaving for an extended period of timenow the first two steps make it look like someone is in the house. if someone thinks your in the house, it's obviously, there will be a less chance of someone breaking in. the last step is obvious. the more people who know you will be gone, the more dangerous it will be to leave your house unattended.also, in this social networking age, don't tell the world you are going on vacation in a status message. if someone sees your status and notices they live near you, they can try to find out where you live and plan their attack.again, i am really sorry you had to come home to see that you were robbed. the police, like usual, are almost useless in situations like this. they will get enough information to take a report, then it will get filed away along with other paperwork that doesn't get a second glance. your only hope really is if there is if someone else gets robbed(we don't really want that to happen, do we?) and they catch the guy. they can then question them about the incident that happened with YOU.sometimes you can deduct things for yourself and find your own clues. usually burglers like to get in and out of a house as quickly as possible. they don't want to risk getting caught. so from this, you can try to determine how long the burgler was in your home by the things he went through and what the person took. if you have neighbors, you can also ask them if they saw anyone come to your home, or any suspicious activity around the home. for instance, anyone who didn't look familiar or a car parked somewhere that they never saw before. you mentioned they took jewelry. was it hidden? whenever you leave for a vacation, it's always important to hide or lock up something of value to protect those things while you're gone. if your jewelry was hidden, then you have to ask yourself how did the burgler know where to look. sometimes unfortunately, a burglar can be someone you know.while growing up, our house was broken in to 3 times, and there were also a few attempts to break in. we lived on a corner house and smart burglars target corner houses because there are always two exits (one from the front, and one from the side) without having to jump any fences). i've also got my car broken in to 3 times, and it was stolen once.i understand completely what you went through and probably continue to go through. so many emotions to deal with.....especially when it's your first time. i remember when my car got stolen, i thought i was dreaming haha. i couldn't believe it was real. it takes time to get over something like this. it's not only an invasion of privacy, but it makes you feel worthless that you couldn't protect what you value.with that said, it's important to always look on the bright side. all that was taken was material possessions. we can always get those back. nobody was hurt in the burglary. so thank god that nobody was sleeping while someone broke in and nobody got hurt because that happens a lot too. this is also a learning experience which i gave some steps to take and tips for the future. not all is lost, so still be thankful for what you still have.again, i am very sorry that there are so scumbags out there that can hurt people in a world that doesn't have to be so cruel....

from what i understand, the only one who touches the code is opaque. he was pretty strict with this policy. there is no hacker at work if what you mean by hacker is someone who is maliciously trying to hurt ks. i don't believe this is why you are seeing error messages. i have seen them from time to time, and then they disapear within an hour or so. i've just ignored them. as far as trying to understand where the error messages are coming from, i doubt anyone here can give you a solid answer. i think opaque would be the only person who can inform you on this.also, it's not a FIR. someone else posted about this already about a week or two ago. even the original post shouldn't be considered an FIR because this has been going on for the last 3-4 months every so often.

actually, you are wrong. phishing sites are harder to detect now. before, to trick people they would use a subdomain. now they are using a combination of a domain+subdomain with the domain beginning with "com". so when they create a subdomain, i.e. "gmail", the first thing a user will see will be "gmail.com".hackers are coming up with more and more techniques as the old ones become outdated. as you can see, this original post was made in 2008 when phishing sites were becoming more and more popular, but it was a rather old technique. the technique i just mentioned isn't as old but is being used and is fooling a lot more people than the old technique. you probably haven't heard of this technique until now, but it will be common knowledge in another couple years.there are a couple better ways to fool people though but if i were to share them, it would just give some wannabe hackers an excuse to try to deceive people which is not my intention in this post.i liked your suggestions to try to detect a phishing site. they are all good, but don't be fooled. some are NOT easy to detect. some people actually know what they are doing.....most don't though.....

actually, if it's a toshiba, there might be a program already installed called "recovery disk creator". you can search for it by pressing the windows icon and then type the name in or just type in "recovery" and see what pops up. if it's on there, it will allow you to burn a recovery cd. it may also give you the option to burn all the programs that were on the computer out of the box. from there, you can run it and there should be a few options. one of the options is to reformat to the state it was in out of the box when you bought it.a lot of toshiba models come with this option to burn a recovery disk so try looking for that program. it should be in a toshiba folder.

yea, the irs are nasty crooks and for some reason, it's very easy them to get court orders against you without notice or without you even having to go to court. i remember one year, i didn't file a tax return. it's a myth that it's illegal to do so if you don't owe them anything. what the irs did was look at my qualifications and estimated and assumed i made a certain amount of money that year and was ready to deduct what i owed them out of my wages including late fees etc.... i went to the irs office and explained the situation. they forced me to file a return or have my wages garnished. this is something i didn't fight and wish i had the money to do so. i didn't fight it because i needed my wages. anyway, after filing my return, the appologized and then agreed it was them who owed me money. the system is really wacked. they use fear as a tactic to control people and then force people to do what they want you to do while you're under duress. it's really a shame our government can act like this. but i've heard horror stories before that make my situation look like a walk in the park.

well i agree 100% that opaque abandoned things here. so did buffalohelp and so did the mods. heck, even the old members abondoned this place. i think it started with opaque and spiraled down from there. now as far as opaques intentions. how do you know his intentions? did he tell you this? i am curious where you are getting your information. i just want to know if you know what you are really talking about or if they are assumptions and ignorance speaking. because if it IS assumptions and ignorance, then your credibility is just getting worse and worse. why say worse and worse? you were one to always have a problem with the old credit system and how the mycents were distributed. according to you, you weren't getting enough or weren't getting as much as you should have been getting. well, ever since the new credit system, i have never had that problem. even today when the admins and mods abandoned this place. i still at the very least, $2 a week which is over $100 a year and i don't even post as much as i did before. you claimed before that the mycents system was partially run manually, but since everything has been abandoned, that argument is not valid anymore. in fact, very few people complained about the distribution and your still on that point. now if you have something to say supported by what you were told or by facts that you can prove, then let's see and hear that information. if not, and you want to speak from assumptions and ignorance, then yes, your own credibility here will get worse and worse where eventually anything you have to say will not be believed. now i am with you in not liking how things went down. i was the biggest complainer i believe. but i didn't complain just to complain. i wanted people held accountable. i wanted to keep people in check. i can't do that now. i know there is no HEART in Xisto(formally known as Xisto) anymore. no heart. no blood line. nothing to keep it breathing. no life line. no determination or vision anymore for this place. almost like the dream is gone. what i DO know is that Xisto is posted in the new office. opaque made Xisto a part of it. this tells me one thing. that when the time allows, KS will be back. it will be hard to recover after the decisions opaque made and the more important things that needed to be done first, but i believe it will be back. is that an excuse not to take 5 minutes to update users from time to time? no. there is absolutely no excuse to ignore ks members completely. also, if i was opaque, i would be afraid to come back after this long absence because i know i would be getting a lot of crap. that's exactly what he's going to get too. a lot of crap when he comes back unless some miracle happens. he has a lot of explaining to do. well lets look at some fact i can talk specifically about. in the last 12 days, mycents have credited me 4 times in my xisto account. i just checked my emails for the last week and a half. this means on average, they will credit you once every 3 days. this seems to be consistant with what i have been use to for the last year or so.now if you have a problem with paying for hosting, then the easy solution is to start posting more. it's really that simple. i'd rather see you do that than claim that opaque is unfair or not kosher. in fact, right now you are the pot calling the kettle black because it seems YOU are the one being unfair right now in some of your words when there is obviously an easy solution to your problem.right now, there is actualy absolutely no point in complaining too much about anything because your voice wont even be heard by anyone that can resolve your problem. admins aren't here and there's only 1 or two mods that log in on a regular basis. but mods can't be of help to you here.unless you are complaining just for the sake of complaining, i really don't understand your point or why you are even addressing the 4.0 credit system in the 3.0 credit system thread.also, all your issues have been addressed already in this thread and other threads if you care to read them. what you're saying isn't anything new except nobody really has complained about it in a year.finally, i don't see it as opaques fault if you can't post enough for your own hosting. if you are waiting til the last minut to scrounge for a few mycents, then that's your problem. i have always advized people that with a post to host system, it's very wise to keep yourself 2-3 months ahead of the game at all times in case of emergencies or vacations, etc... if you don't choose to be one of those people, why blame opaque? blame yourself first and learn from your experiences. i don't see you doing that though.i really don't have any other problem except for the fact that you were trying to discredit someone's character which in my opinion was not just an "opinion", but poor judgement because if you knew opaque, the words woulda never came out of your mouth.

i was bored so i decided to google "Xisto" without the quotes. first result? a topic i started a year ago. i don't know why Xisto.com didn't get the #1 spot, but it sits at the #2 spot with the main forum page for Xisto sitting at #3.what i also thought was interesting is that my website, onlinecheapo, is at #4. this is the u.s. google search. it probably isn't the same in other countriesanyway, i just got a kick out of seeing my work in the #1 and the #4 spot for the keyword "Xisto" on google

well i am a regular poster and i have had no problems recently in the mycents being updated and my account over at xisto being credited. if you want to talk about how there is an inconsistency in how mycents are distributed, then i will have to disagree with you. ofcourse there is an algorythm to determine mycents. this is constant. the inconsistency you are referring to is you thinking too much. that is the only inconsistency. don't blame ks on the script they wrote just because you haven't figured out how mycents is paid out. opaque probably can explain how the mycents are distributed, but he wont. why? probably the same reason why google doesn't give out their code or part of their algorythm. i dunno. if it were me, i wouldn't either. i would want posts to be as natural as possible. not written based on an algorythm to gain the most mycents. if you want to talk about what is not kosher, then maybe you have to keep yourself in check first and ask yourself if you are really being fair in your words because personally, i don't think you are. even during this slow period right now, i am consistently being credited about $2 every week for my posts. i don't have the most posts on this forum, but i do know, i have acquired the most credits. i know i average about .22 per post. there is a thread somewhere where opaque or buffalohelp has explained a little bit in how to maximize your credits. i suggest you find it and read it. heck, it may be in this very thread. i forget and i am not about to find it unless more people start complaining again soon. again, i have never had a problem with the mycent system. i think it runs pretty well. if i was new, i would probably want to see my mycents being updated more frequently, but as an old time user here, i have faith in the system and the system has yet to let me down. i have my own beef in how this forum is being run, but when it comes to the opaques fairness to his users here in distributing mycents, he has been VERY fair. so fair in fact that he was paying other peoples hosting at one time while sorting out some glitches. so when it comes to fairness, i have absolutely NO problems with opaque. his support help that he has hired though SUCKS. so when i hear talk about how opaque isn't being fair or kosher, then i have to step in and strongly disagree. he has been NOTHING but FAIR where the mycents system is concerned.
