  1. what ftp program are you using? i use core ftp and have had no problems uploading to Xisto. it only asks you for your url, account name and password and you're in. first, i suggest setting up an ftp account through your cpanel. if your lazy like me and don't feel like doing that, you enter your url and the same account name and password you enter to log in to your cpanel in to your ftp program. also, i believe sometimes you need to start your url as "/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi; but seriously, i've had no problems using core ftp. it's free, easy to use, and fast in my opinion. you should look where you can download it off google, go to the download site and download it. ......or just upload all your files through your file manager after you log in to cpanel. it just sucks to log in and go to that area every time you want to upload something when you can just click on an icon from your desktop to do all that for you
  2. if you want to have your mail end up to yahoo or hotmail or any other mailbox, log in to your cpanel and forward your mail. sending mail through smtp is available. i've had problems with it in the past but i believe it was an isp providor problem i am still trying to resolve. as far as sendmail, that works too if you want to set up some form of mailin list newsletter or autoresponder. send me mail if you want to test a simple script that will work on Xisto. i also believe that in your cpanel under scripts, you might find what you are looking for that can be set up automatically for you.
  3. ok, this is a reply to my original message that nobody responded to because i think i know what the problem is and express it here in case anyone ever has the same problem. i believe the problem is that my isp doesn't allow smtp other than through their own server. the reason why i assume this is because i successfully sent a test email through their own mail server. i am going to call them monday to see if they can have this changed. i don't want my isp connected to my hosting. anyway, i thought i would share my experience and my assuptions if others may have had or having the same problem.
  4. i'm one of them right now. i can recieve mail from outlook, but i can't send mail from outlook. i get the following error... The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'petsxpress@petsxpress.info', Server: 'mail.petsxpress.info', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E i configured my mail setting through the control panel auto config using ie. any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks! btw- as of now, my setting are not logging on using secure password authentication(tried both ways), outgoing server is requiring authentication(tried both ways), using same login setting as incoming mail server, and not logging on using secure password authentication also, i've heard things about outlook and security issues. any good and free email clients out there?
  5. i've only been here a few days and i have to disagree 100%. you have over 400 posts and even if it only gave you 1 day credit per post, you should have well over 1 years hosting. i average about 3 credits per post right now. i don't like to write but when i do, i can talk anyones ear off. i try to be specific to a posted topic when i reply and i will rarely post 1 or two lines because if i did that, i probably didn't have anything important to respond about in the first place. i try to make my posts as informative as possible. rather than increasing the credits for posting, i would rather see more quality posts from people. if people can't make quality posts and having a hard time living with the rules here, make the choice not to be here. this topic in my opinion belongs in the venting forum as i know there was a similar discussion about this the other day. i've only been here a short time and seen alot of whining about problems they don't like about Xisto. i just got hosted, i just made my dns changes and can access my control panel now. instead of being gratefull for what this place has to offer, some people have to complain. if you have to complain, this place isn't right for you and you should find another place that suits you. Xisto from my understanding does the best they can and they know if they could please everyone, they WOULD but they know like i know that it's impossible and you can't please evryone, but you can usually please the majority which is what they are doing. instead of trap 17 changing, maybe some of the users should change. Xisto for the most part has been successfull so why change what is working? they welcome opinions which is good but they should NEVER welcome laziness. everytime i hear postings like this, i hope they forgive me but i have a HUGE need to respond because they deserve credit where it's deserved. and people should have no problem with posting to get free hosting that would normally run at the CHEAPEST for what they offer, $15 a month. that adds up to $180 a year!!! there are 365 days in a year so lets break it down to one post a day for one credit a day. what's 1 credit? it's about 2 1/2 lines. so if you are posting something of quality, you would be taking 5 minutes of your time to write 10-15 lines for 4-6 credits. if you do that, then all you really need to do is post once a week! BIG DEAL! if anything they should lower the credit system. not raise it. THAT would ensure and force people to make more quality posts. that's my opinion and i'm sticking to it
  6. if you've been to public school then you know they offer more diversity and individuality as a human being. i have to disagree 100% that they offer diversity religious wise. they will teach you one and only one religion if it's a religious school. most private schools are religious in nature until you enter college but i am only talking high school level and below. i do agree that any school private OR public depends on where you live and in how good it is. but from my own experience in private schools, they tend to take away a persons individuality. i'm not saying all private schools, but all the ones i've seen and experienced which tends to make me believe that it is definately MOST private schools. also the better private schools i've seen are religion oriented which for the most part is catholic or baptist. they are VERY strict and you have to not only abide by the school rules and uniforms but also abide by the religios rules and laws. most baptist private schools wont even allow you to dance at your own prom because. how ridiculous is that? i'm not baptist so maybe someone who is baptist can expplain to me why it's not ridiculous. as far as economical diversities....wrong again! most people who aren't white don't have the money so you see these people in the public schools. anyone who isn't white and don't have the money have to apply for a grant....those smart enough to know how to do that. the only race that usually has enough money other than whites are asians so you will find more asians than black and mexicans in private schools. again, this is from my own experience in what i've seen. so again, you are wrong about the racial diversities. now all schools are social in your free time but private schools give less free time than public. they do have their sports and activities yes, but they also give more homework like someone else just mentioned where you have less free time a good education is what you get in private schools, but what if a child can't live up to those expectations the school and the parents have for the child? the child will feel a failure and end up with depression and suicidal because he'she doesn't seem to fit in. this area is very tricky and it's up to the parents and teachers to find what is best for the child. most parents and teachers don't work together and rather than treat the child as unique and as an individual, they will force expectations on a child. this is extreme, but it happens every day. look around with open eyes. before people start bragging about private schools with close minds, they need to open their eyes. our greatest geniouses didn't go to private schools. in fact some of them had learning disabilities. graduationg from a private school doesn't mean you will succeed in life. neither does graduating from a public one. a couple of my friends graduated from top universities(ucla- public)(usc- private) and still don't know what to do with their lives. one is still working at a job for $10 an hour that has nothing to do with what he studied. i know exactly how private schools limit you and how public schools limit you. you are also required by law to go to school. school is important because it makes you a more well rounded person but don't get caught up in expectations of parents and teachers. once you turn 18, hopefully you know enough about yourself to know what areas you are interested in. school isn't for everyone. find your niche and DO IT...what makes YOU happy and areas that interest YOU. people may disagree with you and you may struggle to fight for what is right but it's well worth it. if you are less than 18 and have a voice, voice it. if you feel private school is more suitable because of the higher education you recieve and that when you continue your schooling in college, make an effort to voice your opinion NOW and if there is no money, look in to a grant. if your going to private school and it's either too much or not for you, voice it. they both have something to offer in a unique way and just because a school is right for one person doesn't mean it's right for the next kid wether private or public but people who say they have it made just because they go to private school is ridiculous and that was the point of the beginning of the topic
  7. the guy who said it was easy is full of crap. it's hard. why he can only solve it be reversing the order in which he mixed it up. there are some that can solve it quickly in a random mixed up order, but that is rare.i worked on it for hours and the most i could get was almost 3 sides. two sides where easy....that third was hard and never completed it fully. that's why i bought the solve for the rubix cube. it came in an 8/12 by 11, 8 page soft cover booklet. even THAT was hard to figure out but finally solved it with help :(before i solved it i would have to take it apart several times and put it together to act like i solved it....especially if i knew someone was coming over. i could always fool others, but i could never fool myself so i would always revert back to mixing it up again for 10 minutes and try to solve it. i finally gave up intil i bought the solve for it.i think the rubix cube was similar to chess if you wanted to be good. you had to see check mate before you ever moved a piece. but with the cube, i guess you have to think 3 dimention. knowing where the bottom and side pieces will be when you are working on the opposite sides. most people focus on the top only.anyway, i solved half. i was happy with that. only meant i was half stupid and not fully
  8. i agree with you 100%, why i will never buy a cordless. they are not acurate and they are slow. the next step up is the infrared(without the ball) those seem to work better, more accurate and fast, but nothing still beats the old fashioned mouse with the ball and the 2 or three buttons with or without the scroller(i never used it) but then i think that maybe i'm getting old and not with it in the times. its like when i refused to use windows 95 when they first came out. i was happy with dos. now i'm using xp and happy with it. just made me lazy. i am still glad i know dos because anything i can't fix within the gui os, i can just go in to dos. so maybe it's a combination of being lazy(technology loves to promote that) and getting old......or.....maybe it's just relative and to each their own.
  9. any death that causes pain or suffering is the worst way to die. i was a very depressed and suicidal kid in my 20's and i thought alot about death and how i wouldn't want to go. thinking about suicide and thinking what if it didn't work out the way i planned and i become a vegitable or a quadrapalegic(sp). death never scared me. it was how i was going to die that scared me. now my grandmother told me that if she was ever unable to take care of herself, to push her in to the swimming pool and let her drown. well that time came when she experienced two stokes and was never the same. it KILLED me knowing what she had told me and me unwilling to do that. but drowning in a pool? your talking about pain and suffering and suffication to an extreme before you die. i couldn't possibly do that to another human being no matter what their wishes were. i cannot inflict on someone else what i would not be able to inflict on my own self. any death, to me, that isn't painless is the worst way to die. i don't care if you are burned alive or buried alive. it's ALL bad to me and i catagorize it all as the same. unfortunately, there are very few ways to die painlessly. best thing to do though is to not think or post about crap like this. whatever happens happens and when it's your time to go, you will go and NOTHING you WANT will change that unless you make the choice to kill your own self the way you want, but then alot of things can go wrong with that thinking and you just may live through it and something that is far worse than death and how you die. i don't like to question anything i have no control over. what's the point? it does nothing but create unneeded stress and anxiety. i like to clear my mind with more productive things.
  10. i agree that people who gloat about their wealth should find more inportant things to do with their life, but what does that have to do with people going to public or private schools? i was raised going to public school my whole life while one of my sisters went to both. my niece has only experienced private. i think public AND private has something different to offer and if one gloats about being in private, gloat back in being in public school that offers something they don't get. it's true that private schools are more strict in what you wear and how you are taught. private schools usually teach a grade or two above public. to gt in to public school, you either have money that was EARNED or from a grant if you're not white. in public schools, you are taught something more valuable. dealing with a diversity of people and making friends with people who are not just white but come from a variety of races and cultures. something that you wont really get in a private school for the most part. school isn't just about text books and listening to teachers in the classroom, but making friends and establishing relationships with a diversity of people. in private school, you don't get that. most everyone is the same and your not an individual. they limit what you wear so you all look alike. they are all alike in the fact that they all have money to attend the private school. everyone is the same and private schools will promote that. that's what i hate about private schools. i wanted my mother and sister to consider sending my niece to public school for that diversity and so she can easier find herself without being the same as others that her private school likes to promote. she is also having a harder time right now competing with the higher expectations private schools promote. to me though, private schools aren't wrong and neither are public schools. they offer some things the other doesn't and they can both be looked up to highly in certain areas. you do have some people bragging about their private school and how much money they have, but that isn't EVERYONE going to private school. they didn't choose to go their. their PARENTS chose for them to go there as their parents have final say over a childs life. now i wouldn't trade my public education for anything. i love people and i loved the diversity. it was hard overcoming the diversity with the blacks and mexicans and the asians for different reasons but it allowed me to become a better person in life for it. something i consider just as important as a quality education from a book. so again, if you hear people bragging about thier public school like its the best of the best, revert back to the thinking that they are just ignorant because public education gives you things that private schools don't. individuality and diversity. these people whole grew up in private schools their whole life will have a BIG PROBLEM adjusting to the REAL WORLD because the REAL WORLD is PUBLIC and NOT PRIVATE. if your looking for a very strict school that teaches more discipline and higher learning, then private school is the way to go as well and shouldn't be looked down upon.
  11. it's a little off topic but i have to agree 100% life is meant to live by how you know how to live not by how others want you to live or feel you should live society sucks and dictates that everyone should be a follower and not an individual. so when we don't follow, we are laughed at. SO WHAT. you're doing what you enjoy or doing whatever you can to improve your own self as an individual that is YOU. nobody can ever take that away from you....but when you let society or peer pressure dictate, you lose yourself and will never be happy i like to fart in my sleep and not NOBODY is gonna tell me i can't do that!
  12. i only have 4 words..... "a brave new world" THAT was the future earth. it's here now. don't fool yourself. the u.s. government want to say it's illegal to clone but what's interesting is what the government DOESN'T tell you. cloning goes against my every belief in who we are and our very souls. i firmly believe that our bodies are hosts as our souls live on with each lifetime learning experience. don't tamper with nature and don't underestimate it or it just may come back and bite ya on the **bottom**. technology growing bigger just because it can or to support an over population in the short run will be the same technology that will kill us all in the long run. what makes the world exciting and fun is that we are all different and unique. we all have something different and unique to offer ourselves, others, and the world til the day we die. if we were all the same by cloning, what a boring world and way of life it would be.
  13. i have an interesting story. it's about a post i just read. some kid was bragging about failing the math proficiency. what's even more interesting than that was to find out that schools now reward students for failing. i got my first computer(a used apple ii+) almost 20 years ago after saving $600 in allowence. it took me a couple years but well worth it and was proud of my accomplishment. i am going to come to your house and steal your computer, then come back here and post about it
  14. i would encourage ya to look in to taking a martial art. helps you in real life. build discipline as tolerance and concentration is included in that. also, helps keep ya in shape which doen't hurt either. a word of advice though if you do decide tobe bruce lee....try not to get your **bottom** kicked when your sparing
  15. we will deal with it. just like the whiners complaining about everything on t.v. not being G rated for their children. can't please everyone. my basic philosophy is if there are too many banners, i wont return, too many graphics or flash, i wont return, any popups or popunders, i wont return(in general) and if there is little webpage content, i will NEVER return unless by some fluke accident. i deal with it because i love searching the web. i know what to expect when i search the web and so should everyone else although i do expect it to be too much for some people and one day we will be hearing about some nerd going postal over one too many popups. but then, as always, he will be able to hire a cheap lawyer who is after a quick buck arguing about civil rights and rights to privacy or something like that....or hire that one lawyer who argued and won that mcdonalds coffee was too hot gotta love the world we live in. this stupid crap makes it comical and interesting
  16. when nobody is around, i like to pick my nose and roll what i pick around in my fingers til i'm able to flick them on the floor. i don't tell anyone about this because i like them to find out for themselves when they walk around the floor barefootalso, when i'm driving on the road and a driver annoys me and stops in front of me at a stop light or stop sign, i like to tap their bumper. light enough not to cause any damage but hard enough where they have to get out of their car and look at their bumper....close enough to me where i can roll down my window to say, "i'm sorry, it was an accident" while thinking to myself "what an idiot!". although i don't recomend anyone doing it twice to the same car within a 2 minute period. he didn't believe me the second time. i don't tell people about this because i would assume they'd look at me funny thinking i need my license taken away.now although i did only tell this to one person, i had a dream that i was shopping in a grocery store naked. i still don't know what that meant.ok- that's 3....that's enough for now....
  17. although popups are annoying and i try to block them all, i think the only use for a popup for anyone hosting a site is to collect a visitors email address for a newsletter, autoresponder while giving away something free that has value to your targeted visitors. but if you do that, you should make sure that it doesn't pop up everytime they visit....only their first visit. my personal preference is not to see any popunders or popovers. i tend not to visit annoying websites ever again unless it's vital to what i need....but that is once in a blue moon. smart webmasters that have what i need don't lower themselves to over advertising. they don't need to when they can attract visitors with quality services and information
  18. well i gotta love the freedom of speech here when some can say they hate this place, but i hate when people can say they hate this place while still logging on to the system. it just doesn't make any sense. what else doesn't make sense is that a college student has nothing to write about. that's like saying you should never date because eventually you will run out of things to say. from my understanding, Xisto takes a credit a day to host your site. you say it takes an hour a day or an hour a month? i just spent 2 minutes posting this and i probably got 2 days credit. please keep up your posts so that i can always have something to respond to and talk about....thank you i have advice for people who want to complain. don't see this as a chore. if you do, you don't belong here. see this place as a community. if you don't want to talk or make a couple friends, you don't belong here. where do you go if you don't belong here? pay $15 a month to any hosting providor. heck, Xisto even offers free hosting without even posting a darn thing! they just place a small banner on the top of your page. am i understanding this wrong??? what the heck is there to hate with ANY FREE SERVICE?!?
