  1. LightScribe isn't terribly expensive. When I got my new computer (an HP, bought in April 2005), we paid about $100 extra for the drive. As far as the media is concerned, it's expensive: about $5.00 for a five pack of discs with slim cases.
  2. We have a Linksys WRT54G WiFI router, one computer connected via ethernet, two connected via Linksys WUSB54G adpters, and one Dell laptop with Centrino. We made shure to shutdown the WinPPPoE client that we originally installed, and configured our router correctly. The modem is connected to the router via ethernet. I don't even know the model of our modem; here's a picture. It's pretty old hardware:
  3. Those forums seems nice after a quick glance (they use IPB). I'll have a good look at it sometime, and maybe even join to chat about the wonderful service of the search giant. I'll spread my love for Gmail and learn something at the same time.
  4. I ran the BroadBandreports download test, and this is the result: That's not very impressive for what MetLife pays for our DSL line. And really, my download speeds never reach that speed. BTW, 128 kbps?!?! That's nothing! It takes me about a minute to upload a photo to Simpload. As you can tell, my speeds are pathetic.
  5. Man, that site is almost like spreadfirefox.com - the guy used the same looking CMS (or got some professional to copy it for him - don't ask me). Anyway, who needs to spread IE (to bad there's no 's' for me to write as '$') when it's on 95% (and shrinking) of the world's PCs? I have no complaints about FireFox, and I use a sister of it, Netscape 7.2, for day to day use. Edit: Hold on a second, he did copy the Mozilla site's theme. Here's the code: On spreadinternetexplorer.com:
  6. WordPress keeps all of this in the MySQL database. I can't simply change the link locations to my new domain. I tried replacing busstop.trap17.com with my new domain in the database (in the wp_options table). However, I still see the plain look on my blog, and the links still reflect that of my subdomain. Would my best try be to switch back to my subdomain and use nyceducated.info as an adon domain, in whcih case everything should work?Update: For some weird reason, after I looked at my blog, everything was looking mighty fine. All I had to do was change .htaccess1 back to .htaccess (I renamed it while I spent a few hours trying to figure out how I could fix it) and the permalinks worked properly.
  7. Tiny homework assignements? I have to do a report on midieval Europe in one month! My English/SS teacher goes mad with homework sometimes, plus work from every other teacher.
  8. I did that last night (within a few hours of getting the domains) for one of them, and it worked like a charm. Now I need to do the other domain, which is my real domain. I will submit a request (not goo ahead and do it immediatley) so that I can have a chance at saving 5 credits.Grrrr, I changed my domain, and now my whole site is screwed up. If you go to my blog (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/), you will see my blog, but no template. If you try to click a link in the blog, the URL it will go to is under my old subdomain (busstop.trap17.com, which no longer exists), and you will get a host unresolved error from your browser. Where does WordPress keep that info (aside from the wp_options table in the database, if any other location)? I edited the records in the wp_options table, and I still don't have proper display. Everything is being referenced by my subdomain, which is incorrect and doesn't exist. I need a solution and fast, before Goolgebot gets to my site!! :)Edit: I should have made the new domain an addon domain; this would have saved a million hours worth of headaches. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Merging. Please do not double post. That's the first reason why the new edit feature was added.
  9. Yeah, why bother with free domains, whn they don't give you all of the features and reliability of real, paid domains? I did get free .info domains from 1&1, but if I were to buy domains, then I would definitely buy from them.
  10. I got some of those free .info domains from 1&1, and want to set it up for use with my hosting account. I already pointed the domains to the Xisto nameservers (ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com - are these correct?) and will use one of them as an addon domain. I understand I either have to request a domain change, or spend an additional 5 credits to do this instantly, while in the meantime, the domains aren't even registered, so I don't want to lose acces to my site while they wait for registration. Does anyone have a step-by-step guide to changing domains, as well as using the addon domain feature in cPanel? Here's what I currently see (at 7:54 PM; the confirmation email was recieved at 5:48 PM): Edit: I have more than enough credits to complete this.
  11. Uhh, I'm definitely with you on this. I get (or used to get) tons of homework that wastes my time, and get a load of this: I start at 7:40 AM and go until at least 6:10 in the night. How's that for a long day that takes up time? (Yet I still managed not to ever get suspended.)
  12. Uhh, this question has been asked dozens (if not more) of times. See the readme (http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?act&CODE=01&HID=18) for much more information than I could provide here.
  13. As mentioned before, my connection is usually LESS THAN 100 KBPs. And if I try to download something, the speed will steadily decrease as it gets further into the file. My computer is brand spanking new (PH Pavillion a1010y with 2.93 GHz Pentium 4 and 512 MB RAM, and XP Pro), so it shouldn't be the problemm, nor my wireless network. I have no clue of what is paid for the service; my father's job includes it for working at home. And once again, we have one of the older Westell WireSpeed modems (ours lays flat, and is kinda big, almost as big as the Linksys WiFi router we use it with).
  14. I understand that SuSE Linux has support for WiFi (I found a couple of options in YaST's network device modules for WiFi adapters). My question is: How can I sue my Linksys WUSB54G adapter in SuSE linux 9.1 Professional? If so, do I need any drivers and/or additional software? This would greatly help me - I am a newbie in Linux (pretty much all I can do is install software, and I set up the MySQL server and can't use it).
  15. I have a whole megila to say about Xisto and its moderation. When I first joined the Trap, I was not used to moderated forums (BusTalk.Net wasn't heavily moderated at all). I didn't have much experience with my posts being moderated (I make such wonderful posts ), so moderation was a new thing to me. As time went on, I noticed posts with those note tag thingies that we can't use, but didn't have much thought about the moderation. The only time I had a confrontation with a Mod/Admin was when BuffaloHELP closed a topic I made, saying that the topic was already being discussed elsewhere (and even gave me a link to a topic that was pretty different). Now I am somewhat more appreciative of moderators, although I still keep up the good work making clean and informative posts .
  16. I've always noticed that you could only view your credits by going to the home page of the forum, but didn't really think of having it anywhere else until now. My idea is to put the little hosting credits box on every page (maybe a slightly minimixed version of it, without all of the "if you aren't hosted..." info), so that we can save a pageload everytime we want to check how many credits we have.
  17. Nobody (aside from me) mentioned vBulletin. It's fast and feature rich. I have sen it on a decent number of sites (including the Mambo site, and Realwebtalk.com when it existed) and noticed fast page loads (unlikee IPB), a neat interface (ever notice the little pop-down search box?) and much greater ease of use. As I mentioned, the only downside is price.
  18. Upload the file with FTP and then unzip it in cPanel. That should do the trick, if that's what you're asking.
  19. Most of the time, when you see something like that, it means that the page is part of a dynamic site. It's usually run off of some CMS (Mambo, Joomla, or someother one). For example: http://roslyn.busstop.trap17.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=26is what Mambo produces, and this: http://busstop.trap17.com/blog/index.php?p=28is what WordPress puts out. Hope this clarifies things for you.
  20. Thanks guys! I tried it out on my Open Source topic, just to make sure that it worked. Does this feature also bring in the credit recalculatioon formula?
  21. I have absolutely no clue - but would guess that Xisto isn't WAP enabled. I suppose you could try it, but good luck. Try using the Lo-fi version of the forum - there's a link at the bottom of the page.
  22. Wow. Thanks OpaQue! I love this theme, and it's post writing screen. Before we know it, we will have the shoutbox back, along with our editing and recalculation feature. BTW, can you keep this theme or make the Xisto one similar to this one?
  23. Yeah, but it accomplishes what [i forgot his name who started this topic] wanted to do, passing a variable to the other script through a quertstring variable.
  24. Ooooh, pick me! try this: <? include("http://yoursite.trap17.com/view.php?id=1"); ?>I saw in a tutorial somewhere not to do that while including a file on the serverr, because it would produce the output that would be sent to the browser if the user would request it manually. Give it a try.
  25. It's been a long time since I started this thread, but whatever. SuSE Linux costs money because they provide you with 5 CDs, 2 double sided DVDs, and 2 manuals, for heaven's sake. They also give tech support, and lots of tools within the OS (like YaST, susewatcher, suseplugger and others). Man, if you paid $90 you would expect more than Ubuntu provides (I'm not saying that Ubuntu is bad; in fact, I find it somewhat easier to use than SuSE, and it's live CD, which I didn't get with SuSE, runs faster than SuSE on my aged computer). Overall, I feel satisfied with my purchase. As far as my dad supporting Linux, he only supports Windows. I can imagine why. He supports SQL Server rnning on Windows at work, so I think the reason is obvious. Compiling sources? I never have done that, and don't plan to. If I need something, I find an RPM, or forget about it. Back to the real discussion, open source software is free in rights as well as price (SuSE Linux doesn't count, because they do charge for effort put into distrubuting and supporting their products). I haven't found any open source apps on SourceForge that had a price tag on hem, so let's end the discussion here.
