  1. Let me explain the differences between the two.ASP - Basically, you make a page with some VBScript or JavaScript/JScript in it. You have some new objects available to you, like the Request, Response, and Server objects. It's not a very high power environment, but may be sslightly easier to learn. Low performance - pages are interperted each time they are run (correct me if I'm wrong). Code can be found interspersed all over the page (aka Spaghetti code), making debugging much hared. The only objects accessible are any ActiveX objects installed on the server.ASP.Net - Next generation of ASP. Has a totally different model, of which ASP developers might not understand. Pages are made into an application more than a Web page. You have controls, which act similar to controls in desktop programming, and event handlers, which react to events (like a button control being clicked, or a checkbox being checked) made by the controls that you put in the page. For the code you write, you have access to the entire .Net Framework class library. Pages are compiled only once before being run, and then shawdowed and cached. You can easily add your own classes to your application.
  2. You could probably make a script that appends a username and password for registration to the .htaccess file that Web Protect uses. I could make up a Perl script in a couple of minutes if you needed. I understand what you are talking about.
  3. One day I was bored so I set a password for our Web security software, Trend Micro Internet Security. I turned on the URL filter, and now, whenever my friends send me something funny that has no porn or anything in it, I get the Blocked error. I am really annoyed by this; I can't change other setting in the software too. Is there any way to either reset the password or remove it, without uninstalling Trend Micro?
  4. I've asked about this before, and I feel that I got a subpar response for the first item. So can we have a credit counter on every page? With the amount of queries IPB is making to the DB anyways, it shouldn't really hurt. Also, having a search box on all pages is really a timesaver, and also a bandwidth saver. I find that the search page loads slowly, so it would be an excellent consideration.I still love Xisto, even if it doesn't have these features.
  5. Yeah, I think that it can't be larger than your storage quota (50 or 150 MB). You could probably request more disk space, but you shouldn't need it unless you have a forum like this running.
  6. In .Net programming, bring in the System.Diagnostics namespace (don't know how to do this in C++, only VB.Net), and call Process.Start("C:\program.exe"). You can find additional parameters in the Object Browser.
  7. I've never seen a froum like Xisto before. I was feeling bored today, so I lokked around on Xisto, and discovered just how great it is. They have more organized categories, better posts, less moderators (no offense guys). I know that I can switch pretty easily because I can just download a cPanel backup and restore it on Xisto. I like Xisto because the posts are better quality (here we have tons of one liners, double posts - being eliminated, and broken English, without mentioning any names), and I would be supporting the same company anyways. So everyone throw in your opinions on whether I should switch or not Notice from mayank: Edited topic title! There was a typing error it was written as "Astahoast" instead of "Xisto"
  8. Wow! I had such a good time yesterday. It turned out that we got breakfast (bagels and cream cheese, donuts, orange juice), so I wasn't hungry when we got there. I was running a little late for the lesson (it started at 10:30, we got there at about 10:00). During the lesson itself, I was having trouble doing everything the guy was telling us. But later, another teacher came in to help us practice before we hit whatever trail. Since it was around 52 degrees outside, pretty much everything touching my skin got sweaty (but as I said it was quite warm out so I didn't start getting cold). I had a fit with the lockers; when I first went to get a locker, I put 25 cents into a small locker, not realizing that there were bigger ones (that cost one dollar, as opposed to 50 cents for the small one), so I ended up wasting that quarter. The locking ski racks were almost straightforward: You put the skis in the little square on the lower beam of the rack, and the lock is on a little door that holds the skis in place at the top, although getting the skis in so that you can lock the little door is a little hard.As far as skiing itself in concerned: I find skis (combined with boots) to be very heavy, so I couldn't really decide to take them off or not to get around the mountain (I ended up keeping them on most of the time). The hardest parts of skiing for me are walking on the flat ground, walking up small inclines (like in Camelback's base area), and controlling speed on anything other than the beginner slopes. Hopefully I'll be able to make it on a trail other than The Meadows (which has a rating of Novice, one green circle).
  9. Everyone, Stevey was askig about a control panel for Windows (not Linux, which cPanel only runs under). I know of a few windows hosting CPs, these are: -InsPanel ([url http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) -ZPanel (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) -CubePanel (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, look for the Lite version, which is slightly limited) Maybe I can dig up a few more from my bookmarks (which currently is very out of shape).
  10. I love cPanel. When I have been looking for hosts in the past, I've tried finding ones that used cPanel. My first encounter with it was 000k3.com, which was a garbage host, but they at least they had cPanel (needless to say thet don't exist anymore). Now I've grown with cPanel, and have experienced many of it's themes, Fantastico and other parts of it. The only other control panel I really like is the 1&1 Control Panel, which is very consistent throughout the site, although Plesk is pretty nice too.
  11. I have a discussion on ZPanel somewhere on this forum (I'll add the link later). ZPanel is not open source, and it isn't as good as cPanel or Plesk or any similar product. If I were to set up a machine for shared hosting I would pick InsPanel (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) for now (but if cPanel is ever out for Windows, I would definitely take it instead). Edit: Here's the link to my topic on ZPanel: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/31384-can-i-install-zpanel-on-my-account-want-to-try-it/=
  12. I've seen the iBook with an Intel Core Duo processor on Apple's web site. It seems like a nice machine, and hey - you might just be able to install Window$ on it. I did see something on getting Mac OS X x86 installed on a Windows machine (you could find the story on ZDNet UK; it was a while ago), but that was only a development version of Mac OS X x86.
  13. Could you try to make one more like a hybrid bus, like my current sig? You could even use that picture to make it.
  14. 1. I've heard that before; also called plowing or something 2. Sure thing. But someone in my school said I shouldget level 2 on the bindings so I won't break out that much. 3. I will be sure to drink up. As far as breakfast goes, I can't really - we are leaving at 6:15 AM, and only stopping off in New Jersey for the morning prayers (we are a Yeshiva high school). Can water substitute? 4. I have ski pants, long underwear, and good sweatshirts, and a Lands' End Squall Parka - I think that's quite enough. 5. Good point on the sunblock. I have goggles, so I solved that problem. 6. I think I'll stay away from Marjie's Delight and Cliffhanger (one of Camelback's double dimond trails) 7. I don't know anything about this - I'll take what they give me. 8. Read about that too - comfort and control are the aims. It should be a firm handshake, with room to wiggle the toes. 9. I only have one, medium cushioned pair of socks. I'll make due. Thanks for your help!
  15. I'm new to the world of creating sigs, so here's the best I can do:Size: 400x100 350x150Theme: Don't understand (can it be related to hybrid buses, preferably like my current sig image?)Render: don't understandRender Theme: don't understandColor: Grey, blue, blackText: Yes, my name and "bus dude"Other effects: don't understand
  16. Wow, I never thought A) Employees would talk like that enough for M$ to talk about it M$ would talk about it (I repeated myself on purpose). Man, m^e you are one cool guy! Where did you get this from? And OpaQue, nice work there on your Indian
  17. I have a ski trip this Thursday with my school. We will be going to Camelback mountain in the Pocono mountains (in Pennsylvania), which I hear is a great mountain.I have never gone skiing before, so I could use some tips, before the trip. I have seen numerous packing lists online at many ski area web sites, so I am briefed with that knowledge already. I hope I have fun on the trip.
  18. A) It's Simple Machines Forum. Yes installing it is quick; but better forums are worth the effort to upload and install. C) I don't know anthing about intergration with these products. Yes, vBulletin is quite a forum, and definitely worth the money (if you can spare that much on a forum). I say that it's more commercial grade, meaning that it is better suited to larger and more active forums (like this one, Mamboserver.com, and others). I would get it if it were free for sure, but not at the $160 that Jelsoft wants for it.
  19. If you click the Forum Options button while viewing a thread on this forum, you'll see options for switching to Outline, Standard and Linear+ viewing modes. Can someone highlight the differences from Standard? And does anyone really use those other modes?
  20. That's a smart idea. Now we can look up things while we're on the bus, in the street, or wherever. As far as school goes, I sure hope not!
  21. Yeah, wait till the government sees this thread. Man, I only found one tiny little thing to change on WikiPedia, yet the gov. seems to want to edit (or even take down) the whole darn site! Way to go Wikipedia for banning the feds. Message to U.S. Representative Marty Meehan (D, Massachusetts) and his friends: Ever hear of freedom of the press? Well if you didn't, then it means that we can write preety much anything we want, WITHOUT your intervention!
  22. According to the Google Gmail with Talk FAQs, the chat feature only works in FireFox and IE (from M$). Yeah, I know that's kinda annoying, but hey, what can you do (aside from switch to FireFox)? Hopefully one of these days it will make it to Netscape 7.2+, which I use.
  23. Wow, I'm surprised this isn't counted as spam I have two Lexar Media JumpDrives: 64 MB JumpDrive 128 MB JumpDrive Secure The 64 MB one had its keychain part broken off (after about half a year on my keychain), so I rarely use it. I can't get the software of the secure one working on any computer, so I can't access the secured partion. Oh well. At least it has a decent keychain attachment.
  24. Oh gosh, I found hundreds of links to awesome tutorials on Pixel2Life.com. I've heard of that site before, but only now did I realize all it's offerings.
  25. The possibility of misuse has been lowered thanks to OpaQue's work on a credit recalculatuion feature, which figures out how many credits you earned/lost by editing that post, and adds/subtracts from your amount of credits.
