Thank you all for supporting Xisto like it was your own. In fact that's how we would like for you to think--this forum is dedicated to you and for you. Take care of this forum like it was your own creation :lol:Since we have surpassed the 10,000 mark, I'm moving this to General Talk.

New Custom Bbcodes For This Board
BuffaloHelp replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
Usually when you edit your own topic, the post by default will include The time you made your post and the time it was edited will show that the post was edited. Obviously If you would like to differentiate the newer words, simply use something like different colors, HR bar
enter your text
or what have you. You can use
content
as an optional tag. Another one is "shade" -
The setting of Gallery is currently off line. Once OpaQue is finished with defending the DELTA server ( the problem child) he will focus on Xisto to correct the extension issue. Once that is resolved, I can then set it so that all picture format is compatible with Gallery (perhaps even add additional file extensions such as SWF, MOV, MPEG etc). We'll see...Thank you for your patiences

Very good suggestions! I'm not sure if one particular reply post can be rated but I'm sure the script to show average ratings received by a member's topic can be shown on the member's profile page is in works...OpaQue mentioned that few times. As soon as OpaQue is finished with the rest of Xisto servers (optimizing and modifying to bring us the ultimate services) I'll bring this topic to his To Do List

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"Mac Killed My Inner Child" I love that phrase. I wonder if this is the final comeback from the mighty IBM clone world--answering to infamous Mac commercials over the years.

Does the Windows device manager sees your drive in hardware list? If so check the property and see if it's working correctly. Also, open your My Computer and see if the CDROM drive icon is there. If so, right click and select eject. When all these function without a problem, I think there's something wrong with the IDE cable (try using a new one if you haven't) or the motherboard itself. You said it had a power surge? All CDROM drives do not require any special drivers or settings since Windows will recognize them automatically. The only special with IDE ROM drive is your DVD drive where it requires DVD decoding software to read any DVD disk. Otherwise your DVD drive will read any CD right after the installation.

Outlook 2003 Email Settings and Web-based e-mail
BuffaloHelp replied to htdefiant's topic in Software
The only free service I know that is HTTP enabled with Outlook is Hotmail. All others have stopped supporting external email program accessing the web-based mail server. (Xisto being the other exception)So, using HOTMAIL as an example, when you delete a message from Hotmail online you no longer can see that message when you connect your Outlook to Hotmail account. When you set your Outlook to "leave message in the server" option then you can delete it from your Outlook (or a.k.a. local storage) and still have the same message in Hotmail account. -
Query About Maximum Number Of Free Hosting Accounts
BuffaloHelp replied to delivi's topic in Web Hosting Support
The official answer is.......... 3 Xisto.com Xisto.net Xisto.com A word of caution: Do not abuse free accounts in Xisto.net. Make different username and cPanel name in Xisto than in Xisto. Now that you can have different display name (which is annoying when approving applications) you can have different forum login name and same display name. The reason, unless changed, is that the hosting script may see your same forum name (and your same cPanel name) as duplicates and delete one of the accounts (in Xisto or Xisto). -
A resolution of something in digital format is like making ice. Let's say you have a cup of water. If you pour it into a container 4x4 you'll probably have thicker ice block, compare to pouring into a 100x100. Right? And think of the thickness of this ice as the quality of your video. You cannot have it stretch out too much before you start to really notice the graininess. A successful video resizing depends on the original video file. If your WMV file has a bit rate of at least 500 or more, the largest you can go without losing too much quality is about 1.5x of the original size. This is my personal formula and my personal perception of what is good quality. You may be satisfied pushing it to the higher resolution with much lower bit rate.Use Windows Media Encoder (free from MS site) to resize and compress your file. It's bit hard to navigate but I'm sure you'll pick it up rather quickly.

This is not domain name related. It's how Xisto hosting service and setting are provided. More on this will be answered by OpaQue. But I believe it has to do with when you activated your hosting (before the cPanel change and after). But seriously, do you need more than 99 sub-domains? I can see why mailing list has a limit--due to spam abuse. Although I can see the limitation to parked and addon number being restricted but this is for Xisto service agreements--you cannot use your free hosting to run another hosting service(s).Let's wait and see...

I started out just posting for AfterDawn many years ago. It was for me to share ideas and finding for the aforementioned forum theme. I wanted to place all my acquired knowledge into one single place, so that I can revisit if I forget or to help out other members who are having a tough time. It was purely for intellectual stimulation. But that forum just got too complex for me and the core theme was being branched out to too many unnecessary subjects. So I stopped. It was just last year I had sudden spike of interest in hosting solutions when I started a business idea. And after seeking not too long, I came across Xisto. Needless to say that my desire to collect all my knowledge base into single place is still within me. I have subscribed to many topics in Xisto and I have made few topics that I'd like to keep reminding myself. And I can access them when I'm off on the road. There were times when I accessed this forum to fix a computer problem. So, this forum is like my traveling bookmark or external storage space for all key articles for my solution I acquired over the years.

I'm sorry to say the version 1.3.x is a dead end. After sending an inquiry to Invision Board sales, I received: And since our cPanel no longer offers 1.3.x it is illegal to install and use it with your Xisto hosting account.

Requests Program - Rm To Other Video File Converter
BuffaloHelp replied to mcwind's topic in Software
Do not ask for crack/serial number using Xisto service (this forum). It is against forum rules. PM sent. If you just need to conver few files, search using keywords "rm to avi converter" or "rm to mpeg converter" Bilosoft (sp?) is one of the good ones I found to be working alright. If you have many files that you really need to convert, just purchase the software since you'll benefit the full functioning software. And that's worth more than mere $30 for a program. -
Abortion : For Or Against Abortion? Share ur views on ABORTION?
BuffaloHelp replied to Milk's topic in General Discussion
Effective immediately, if you cannot control your tone to respectful discussion or cannot control your language, warnings will be issued regardless of your member status. At all times, remember that you are expressing your opinions and not fighting the war against/for abortion. This is the place to exchange ideas and not 'I'm right and you're wrong.' Moving to Debates and will be closely watched. -

I honestly think DIVX is out dated. When in the days of pre MP3 and MPEG-3 & 4, the DIVX encoding was the greatest way to truncate large, high quality video into manageable file size (mainly to fit into one single CD). After the introduction to MPEG-4 and WMA/V's sophisticated encoding methods, I think Windows Media Encoder 9 is the best. Not only it can encode as fast as DIVX and in similar most optimized files size, but Windows Media Encoder also has easier method to have your sound in true 5.1 surround. With DIVX you have to record the sound in 5.1 separately and re-synchronize it. This sometimes leads to sound not matching the movie. And the best of all, Windows Media Encoder is free and you don't have to use proprietary program to use it.
