  1. Not to mention Apple stole the GUI from XEROX PARC...and then started to sue every Tom, *BLEEP*, and Harry that made a GUI after them... Every corporation is evil. The goal is simply to make money, and all corporations cut corners and try to screw their customers. Microsoft sells substandard products through Joseph McCarthy style FUD, Apple sells DRMed products, Oil companies sell knowingly destructive fossil fuels, Tobbacco companies sell a substance with no benefit to humans, they're all equally evil and manipulative.
  2. I don't really like its interface. I still use good old filezilla because of that.
  3. Xenix might have been good at that time, but now it's a reason why SCO isn't doing so hot - there is a lack of proper drivers, the binary format isn't very popular, and OpenServer(I'll give you a clue: it has nothing to do with open source) is prone to crashing.
  4. I've never encountered a finer bulletin board than IPB 2.x. At times you are paying for quality, others, it can be a ripoff, but at times it's just a matter of opinion - phpBB w.x is still used even though the board itself is substandard to other free bulleting boards.
  5. Well, if you have XP Home, yes, Linux will probably be better, though some hardware isn't supported. If you have a properly setup XP Pro(and chances are you will have to tweak it to make it properly setup), the only advantage Linux will bring you is better multilingual support and better fancy effects that sap processor power just as much as XP or Vista. Personally I hate useless effects. In addition, the software you want isn't always on Linux - Flash Player 9 was only released for x86 processors, and Shockwave doesn't even have a Linux port. Linux has a good base, but it cripples what you can do because it isn't as widely recognized (GIMP still has a terrible interface compared to Fireworks, Shockwave doesn't work, et cetera). You have everything you need to have a secure XP Pro installation pre-installed(LU accounts, and DEP. Use those in conjunction with a router and a strong password and you are good to go).
  6. The toughest boss I've faced in a game was either Agito in Beyond Oasis because if you don't defeat him quickly he becomes invincible(And you must try and hit his neck before he retracts it, which is really hard because you need you cut off his limbs to expose his neck, which are farther away), or the snake from Resident Evil(I didn't make it very far...).
  7. Suicide under 99% of circumstances is not acceptable in my book - no matter how bad your life is you can recover and do much better if you actually try, a big problem with the world today. Most emos I take no issue with other than the fact that I do not care for fashion. The few that are the depressed sadists I do have a problem with, because their behavior is most disturbing and very illogical. The poor chaps really should be sent to intense therapy by a qualified psychiatrist should the parent know about the sadistic, self mutilizing behavior. I would be even more saddened and thouroughly disgusted with them if they were only doing this to fit into their social group. Goths, on the other hand, I have an small issue with because they are not a single bit like the true Goths - an ancient germanic tribe famous for collapsing the Roman empire. The true Goths did not dress in black, wear crosses, had rediculous amounts of piercings, or have paper white skin. They were just a tribe of people who tended to be barbaric(i.e. burning Goths who called fellow Goths idiots in the town dump), generous, and smart(Wulfilas). I have no idea of how this term came to be.
  8. What ruins academic writing is the use of everyday slang, the kind of slang that can often get into the dictionaries and such. I am sort of concerned that our language will evolve into something like newspeak.
  9. Dreams drive people just as much as thoughts do. Dreams are good, IMO, even the bad ones. For example, someone who has a dream that they had slipped into cardiac arrest might be inclined to exercise more than one who did not.
  10. The only way you are truly going to stop her from liking you is if you do something dastardly to her. Other than that a simple "I don't like you" would work. There's no easy way to do this without hurting her.
  11. Cookie cutter template, Joomla favicon clearly visible, marquee. The site isn't all that well designed. Content wise it is fine, however.
  12. Opera certainly beats IE, no questions asked. However, I do not like its torrent client. Other than that it works for me.
  13. It will probably be just as poor as the current release - all flair, no substance.
  14. The code looks clean. However, since I cannot see the site, I cannot say anything else.
  15. Not legally there's not. The best browsers you can get are iCab and Netscape. Unfortunately iCab is the only one that is being continually updated. If your PC is screwed up, you could try and order a free Ubuntu CD through your Mac and run your PC off that. It's quite modern. Maybe if your PC is more low-end then FreeBSD will be right for you.
  16. Text based? Legend of the Red Dragon is a good text adventure game that's "online"(well, BBS, so not on the internet per se). Try BBSes. Those are where you'll find text based MMORPGs.
  17. We don't exactly know how the Universe began. Some theorize that it has gone on infinitely. Others say it was a god, though then arises the problem of how that god began to exist. It's a tricky thing to think about, which makes us believe that some god could have created it because we simply do not have the data to explain how the Universe came to be. We have no ideas of what is outside our Universe, so we cannot know how it could have began. Here's a rundown of how science thinks the Universe began to take shape:The Universe was quite small before, but inside the Universe, there were matter and antimatter particles. These particles violently clashed together, causing the Universe to violently expand. Particles started forming in this chain reaction. Eventually these particles created dark matter, planets, and stars - simply clusters of these particles. Our planet was eventually created, and was inhabited by harmful gases. These gases broke down into life supporting gases. Other things broke down to form a primordial soup from which chemical reactions generated proteins, which linked together to create virii, which started to compicate into the first organelled cells, which joined together in colonies to form multicellular organisms, which diversified to adapt to environments eventually to the point where more complex creatures like us mutated. In essence, science explains life was just a byproduct of the right circumstances of heat and chemicals forming together to create things that can act.
  18. A vector image is an image which is stored through the use of geometrical points rather than a bitmap(which is a file full of color values arranged in a square). It allows the image to be resized without it losing quality. However, there are very few vector image formats. SVG is the only one I know of.
  19. There are too many effects, not enough simplicity in the looks of the OS. I can settle on a GUI that has 3 colors(8 colors for the background) in its default design since that is all the colors the GUI needs to function. There is no need for a GUI to require more than 32 MB of memory to operate. OpenGEM could function with only 640k, and it was a fully functional GUI. At least in Windows I can just cut off all the useless effects and color schemes and such that I don't want without brain surgery.
  20. Right now I use Fireworks, and Vim, but at times I also use Dreamweaver.
  21. 12 hours seems like a lot for a sig. No image I've ever photoshopped has taken more than 5 hours.Well, it seems to look quite nice, and the effort really shows.
  22. The design is good inside and out. You've got a good amount of content. The only thing left is advertising on IRC, Usenet and various websites.
  23. I am agnostic, and as such I cannot say that any religion is true.
