  1. how about the shoutbox? will it be back as well? or will it be gone forever?
  2. i think it's because of the database problem. i've seen errors popping up earlier today. but i think the admins are doing their best to bring everything back to normal. i just hope they bring back the shoutbox as well. i kinda feel like my mouth has been zipped because i can't talk in the shoutbox my day wouldn't be complete without that one
  3. lol sm hasn't been online these past few days. you can still catch up.
  4. let's par-tay! congratulations! you're actually a moderator during your early days in trap? wow. i wonder how long before i could put up that much posts not as active nowadays. barely see a good topic to reply to.
  5. i don't get it. you've given me the database entries, but two attributes don't say that it is of INT data type. the id attribute can be of INT, same goes with level and exp. but i don't get it why you're putting name and guild attributes to INT. it doesn't match your table entries indicated in the csv file. here's one sample data: 0000000073,moc1,CoM,26,594169 assuming that i'm thinking that each entry is under the correct attribute, then 0000000073 is the id, moc1 is the name, CoM is the guild, 26 is the level, and 594169 is the exp. you can't put name and guild as INT because it won't match moc1 and CoM. it won't match the data types. like what KuBi has said, i think you should post the error here. don't forget to put $ before the php variables you're using. put $ before connection and file_handle (the one inside fclose()). query should be INSERT not INSER.
  6. i think the topic title is misleading. gaining weight could be interpreted as getting fat. but i think the topic starter didn't want the thread to be interpreted that way. with that said, i think there are lots of ways to increase your body mass. for one, you could take in protein supplements and do workouts in the gym. this would increase the muscles in your body, thus "increasing your weight".
  7. i told you, you haven't looked enough through the search engines you opened the file, but you didn't use a handle for it. try this one $file_handle = fopen ("filename.csv");while (($row = fgetcsv($file_handle)) !== false) { $data = explode (",",$row); $insertrecord = "INSER INTO `$tablename` VALUES ('".$data[0]."','".$data[1]."','".$data[2]."','".$data[3]."','".$data[4]."')"; mysql_query($insterrecord);}fclose (file_handle); i've adjusted the code to fit the csv file you have indicated. of course that is assumed that all of the values in each row are string. your database could be indicating some of the attributes as of integer type. convert data[3] and data[4] to integer values (i'm assuming that you're keeping the leading zeros in the values of data[0]). i think the function is intval() taking the string as an argument. so the line $insertrecord = "INSER INTO `$tablename` VALUES ('".$data[0]."','".$data[1]."','".$data[2]."','".$data[3]."','".$data[4]."')"; will become $insertrecord = "INSER INTO `$tablename` VALUES ('".$data[0]."','".$data[1]."','".$data[2]."','".intval($data[3])."','".intval($data[4])."')"; also, change the '$tablename' to the name of the table where these values are to be inserted. hope that helps (and i hope that works).
  8. maybe you have forgotten some rules about copy-paste from other website's articles. you have to keep that in mind. the mods/admins are watching.
  9. well you have to specify the type of channel it is. HBO might be a local channel to you, but to some, especially to me, that channel is for cable subscribers only. with that said, i don't really like any particular channel. i only prefer shows that interest me. i love cooking so i watch Food Network a lot. other than that, i don't open the tv too much
  10. well i've used yahoo.com and ask.com before google. i've also used a local search engine (i think it's local, since the name is a local expression) named yehey.com. it was kind of a rip-off of yahoo, something like a local version of yahoo.com
  11. welcome to Xisto, vain. i hope you enjoy your stay. just keep in mind the rules of the forum and follow them well and you'll be good to go.
  12. well, the chinese thought of the plan well. but it took them a lot of years to build that. did you know that the walls were actually hollow? in order to fill that up, they piled the dead bodies of the slaves that worked to built the wall. the material used in making the wall is also considered. take for example another structure, like bridges. in order to withstand the pressures of nature, the materials used to build that are specifically targeted to prevent the natural calamities to destroy the bridge. that's the same with the wall. the foundation is taken into consideration so the output would yield a strong wall. walls are usually used to keep things out. in this way, the outside forces won't affect those that are protected by the wall. but you can also consider the opposite side, the wall can also keep things in. this usually means storing, but it also implies that by storing, you keep the outside forces from damaging the items stored beyond the wall.
  13. well this is a pretty much interesting topic, considering that i'm a guy. i'm not being sexist of course. some men are also meticulous about their hair and hairstyle. i'll catch up by quoting some of the replies and answering some of them myself. it is obviously a myth and for a fact that it does the opposite when you leave your hair alone, dirt from the air will accumulate to your hair and stick to it from the oil that is secreted from your scalp. it is still skin after all. the amount of oil that is secreted depends on the person (and his/her lifestyle). but i do believe some curly-haired people who only wash their hair and put conditioner, instead of shampooing it. this technique is beneficial to them since curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair. well that's what they say. my mom actually told me that one myself, but she believes that growing white hair causes the itch in the hair, which is also wrong. i don't think the hair would increase like that. a follicle can only contain one hair strand so there's no way for that to happen. yes it does make a difference. the shampoo you use should be appropriate for your hair type. for example if the shampoo says "for dry hair" then it should be used for that kind of hair. it's pretty self-explanatory. um, actually it's not advised to use electric fans in drying your hair. simply because it can be a place where dirt piles up, so when you use it to dry your hair, it would only make your hair dirty. um yes. it also dries your hair. i don't the direct effect on the scalp, but i do know that it will dry your hair. but isn't that logical? why would someone who is blond/has lighter hair use a bleach/hair lightener that would be stupid. no. too much shampoo will not turn your hair gray. there is a part in the hair follicle that produces the color of the hair, which we know as melanin. as a person ages, the creation decreases, thus the same goes to the pigmentation, which leads to a lighter-colored hair. genetics also has a part on this. if your parent easily had white hair during their early life, then most likely you would encounter that as well. the only thing that excessive use of shampoo does to your hair is dry it out. while shampoos are like soap in a sense that they clean the hair of the dirt that clings to it, the latter is much stronger, like one poster said. i actually tried using soap once, since i forgot to buy myself a shampoo and after i rinsed my hair, i got shocked because i haven't even gotten out of the shower but i can already feel the dryness of my hair. well toweling your hair dries your hair, the action of drying your hair puts a strain on the strands, and if there are weak strands, they do break easily. hair breakage has a lot of causes. one of which is too much use of shampoo. as i've said, too much shampoo dries your hair and if it's dry, it would easily break. i cannot tell you the frequency of usage of shampoo in order to prevent too much breakage. you have to consult your dermatologist or your salon about it. ask them which kinds of shampoo would be more appropriate for your hair. another thing that would cause hair breakage is excessive brushing (especially if you use a brush instead of a comb). brushing tends to strain the strands as well and the weak strands will break easier. if you have curly hair, a wide-toothed comb will do. this would allow you to separate the tangled curly hair easier. another point to consider is that you have to let your hair dry first before combing (or as they say, "towel-dried hair"). this is because wet hair is weaker than dry hair, and brushing while your hair is wet is definitely a no-no. other actions that damage the hair and lead to hair breakage is hair-coloring, ironing, curling and of course, blow-drying (that's why the author of this thread said something about blow-drying tips). hair coloring which uses chemicals damages the hair itself. ironing and curling well is pretty much self explanatory, and has a relation to the post reply about burning his/her hair. there are topicals that can be used for styling the hair. you just have to be careful in choosing which product to use. i have actually read stories about someone who lost all his hair because of a cheap gel he bought. about home remedies, there are a lot of stuff that can be used. in fact some shampoo brans even integrate these ingredients to their products in order to create the same effect. coconut oil helps as moisturizer. there is a plant called aloe or aloe vera, which aids in hair growth. the leaf can be opened and the gooey white stuff can be applied to the hair and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing. as for other home remedies, i do know of the egg white technique, where you put egg whites to your hair, which is supposed to make your hair moisturized. as for the other stuff, you have to search it over the net. there are a lot of tips i can give you on taking care of your hair. for cleaning, use the appropriate shampoo for your hair. in this way your hair would be treated well. shampoo your hair properly in order to clean the strands well. for those who have very oily hair, it means that you have very oily scalp, try to leave the shampoo for a longer time. this will effectively clean most of the oils once you rinse it. for those with dry hair, shampooing shouldn't be done too much or your hair would break easily. massage your hair well in order to stimulate the blood vessels in your head. in this way, you keep the blood pumping and it will allow for better hair growth, and for the oiliness to lessen. if you have oily hair, you need not use conditioners. for drying, i think the author already mentioned most of it. just remember to tap it dry using a towel and then you can already comb it. the reason why i know some of that is because i have had some battles with my hair. i've researched some over the internet, hoping that it would help my problem. it did, but i got tired of having to tend to my hair. you see, i have a very thin set of hair (meaning the hair strands are thin), so thin that i can almost see my scalp when i look at the mirror. to make things worse, i have curly hair. imagine the agony. curly hair = dry hair, thin hair = prone to breakage. thanks to genetics, i inherited the worst genes i tried growing my hair to the extend that i could probably have it braided (but of course i won't do that or it will damage my hair even more) just to make it look more full and hoping that it would cover my scalp. to no avail, it still looked bad, i could still see my scalp and i look awful. i've shaved my head twice (i did it myself, and i'm not proud of it). after long battles, and following this and that, i just gave up and have my hair cut short, short meaning semi-bald (around 1 cm i guess). i actually am liking it right now and i think i would consider using this style for a long time. my point is that i've tried and followed some of this stuff, and it did work, it's just that i'm too tired to think about my hair and why i can't style it like most of my peers, and how i envy them for having thick hair. of course i'm not suggesting that you should go bald as well. i'm just pointing out that carelessness can have a major effect on your hair, although i didn't say i was careless enough to lose most of my hair. and i'm giving you some of the advice so you could use it and with caution.
  14. there is something wrong on both sides. on the kid's side, well what he did has a flaw. first he's not allowed to pick up the gun and put it in his pocket, thus making the authorities suspicious of him. he should have stayed a bit farther from the weapon , and just shouted for help. in that way he would at least be cleared of the suspicions. moreover, it could be proved later that he didn't bring that anyway.on the administration's side (meaning the school's authorities' side), expulsion isn't really the best solution for the issue. although the action the kid has done would indeed cause a great alarm, the approach they did wasn't fair enough even for the kid. they could have discussed the matter privately before handing down a decision. by expelling the kid, the issue wouldn't make it any easier for him to transfer to another school.
  15. well i haven't got any blue screen of death for like how long already. i do have a classmate who got one last semester. and now her computer is pretty much useless. the blue screen of death was the last thing we saw on her pc before it died out on her. and now she's borrowing her roommate's laptop in order to do her projects.poor her. although i don't know why she doesn't even think of bringing the pc to a shop to fix it.
  16. well, i've been here for more than a year now, and i must say, there are things that have changed. i do admit that i still love trap, and thanks it because it gave me free hosting account. but if you're referring to the forum, i think it's a different issue. i have changed from a topic starter to a topic replier within a span of a year, and i think that's the trend for most of the users who want to get an account and points the easy way.honestly, (and hopefully i don't get banned by saying this) i am starting to find the atmosphere kinda boring. it's hard to find a decent topic to reply to and i can't really think of a great topic to start. that's why i usually resort to the shoutbox (which is great... at times...).
  17. i was a bit offended when you said that if the highschool system should be abolished or at least reduced to 2 years (which was probably the amount of time you'll spend in community college, that's why you're comparing the two, which doesn't make any sense because these are two different things). that it would make things a lot cheaper. it's as if you're saying that in order for kids to attend highschool, they have to be financially capable, so to make things easier, cheaper and "practical" (as you say), your proposal is to abolish it completely. that is why i've mentioned that even at low financial status (by telling my story), you could still be able to go to high school. because it is presumed that a person who is in college already knows that stuff. a person with a high-level of thinking, who is already in college, obviously know all the basics, so the need to take them isn't necessary. the subjects offered in college is somewhat related in one way or another to what one is going to take. see? you already sound like you're ranting about it. i remember you mentioning "it's not a rant, it's not a complaint", but from the tone of your posts, it seems that you're doing the opposite. the freedom that college offers students is part of the idea that a student who is in college is mature enough to think for themselves. hmm... maybe i should repeat my statement... if you didn't get it by now... i won't ever get tired of saying this, it is part of the training in high school. and since it happens during the adolescence stage of a person, where a person usually becomes "curious" of a lot of stuff, the training would be beneficial in the long term. and by saying such, it already shows the immature side in you. respect comes when a person shows proper manners and prudence in his/her own actions. if i see a person that acts accordingly, i would think "hey, he's a cool guy." in that way i somehow think he is a person worth of respect. moreover, if he treats me with respect, then respect i can give out in return. again, it's the freedom that college gives students. again, it goes back to the idea that students are mature enough to be thinking on his own.
  18. that is so nuts. there's no such thing as "trial separation". oh my goodness! that is so wrong in so many levels. although the more appropriate term for that is "cool-off", but the phrase is just so wrong. i would probably go ballistic if my girlfriend would say that to me. of course he obviously just wants out of the relationship. i guess he just don't know how to break that one to you. in the long run you would just be hurt badly. i mean he tells you about the trial separation then flies off just like that and go dilly-dallying with other girls while you sulk at your own mistake of agreeing to the deal. a relationship doesn't work that way... or at least you don't do a break-up and expect the other end to "wait" until things don't work well out with the current. he's hanging you up, you suffer and he gets to be happy. it's actually a lose-lose situation for you. if he goes off with another girl, you end up waiting 'til he splits with the girl. if he does split up, there's no assurance he'll come back to you. most likely he'll try to find another girl. and you'll end up waiting at the end of the line. if he does come back, there's no assurance that "things will be like it was when you first met" or "he'll change for the better". you don't have any better option between the two. i suggest you break up with him and move on. jerks like him doesn't deserve a second chance.
  19. you know, it's natural for a person to get pissed off when they are bothered continuously. she's a teacher for crying out loud! you don't annoy a professor/teacher so she could spank you to death so she would get expelled. the least you could do is show some respect. after all that's part of what is learned in school. but it seems that some people aren't learning too well there's probably a much deeper reason why you were sent to detention. you probably just misunderstood the whole situation that you've forgotten that you've done something wrong. it's okay... we understand you're just embarrassed to tell us what you've done... yes, but being aggressive at the point that you're already harming other people, doesn't sound so cool. someday you'll appreciate the things you have gone through in school and probably regret you said such.
  20. well, you should ask more of the women than the men, it's because they are the ones you need to impress. men may give you advice on that, but not everything would work, because it would depend on the girl you're trying to impress.with that said, make use of the simple things that they value the most. in that way, they would appreciate you more. make more time for them, show them that you care. be there when they need a shoulder to lean on. protect them if needed be.
  21. well, "asking" someone out on a date, doesn't necessarily mean you're already asking her to be your girlfriend. unless you're really wanting to go that way. i understand how you feel, you know, being giddy and excited to see her and all. i think it's just natural i guess if you have got a connection. you want to be more with them. the answer is YES, go make your move. after all, it's just a date. people won't make a fuss about it, except to the people who think that "it's so not you". but of course, mischievous people only do gossips. don't mind them. getting her a present for valentine's wouldn't be bad as well. although that would make her feel like you're already making a move that you want her to be your girlfriend. just take it slow, do everything one step at a time. getting a girlfriend isn't as easy as 1-2-3. you said it yourself, you want to know her more before you take it a notch higher. hope that helps.
  22. you know i kinda relate to that story as well, a lot of similarities, especially with the "always in front of the computer" part. although i do believe that parents should always keep an eye over their kids, i don't think it's necessary to be too strict, unless a kid is really naughty they just need some guidance to straighten them up. anyway, that's besides the point. i think you should talk to your parents, and i mean serious talk. tell them that you're a grown up already, they should need to loosen up the leash, that they need to trust you on some stuff because you already have a mind of your own, that there are certain decisions you can make by yourself. of course, you have to tell them that in a proper way so they won't get offended (trust me, parents sometimes take that as an offense and feel like you're going rebel on them). i think you should both set up certain rules that both sides can agree upon, so as to make everything fair. i think they would understand considering you've already shown them how much you love them. and if everything goes well, make sure you don't break the trust they have given you. that would be the greatest mistake, if that would happen. hope that helps.
  23. yes and the ignorants also say that. like what i've said high school is part of the training for the transition to college. it's where your faculties, skills and intellect are being trained well for you to be ready for college. it's also the time you'd be able to decide what course you're going to take in college. i actually starting to find this thread kinda, oh i don't know... insulting maybe. i came from a family of middle to low financial status, but i was still able to go to a respected science high school, and mind you that school is 100% government subsidized so i didn't have to pay anything, given the great quality of education given there. i needed/wanted to go to high school to improve myself and here you go saying that it's a waste of time and money. money need not be an issue here. if you want to go to school then there are lots of ways to get there--probably through scholarships. the reason why some educational institutions require a student to go back to freshman status because there are certain stuff that their institution only teaches. it's not because they want to annoy the heck out of you and make you suffer to start all over again. moreover, they do that because there maybe some stuff that you need to recall from subjects. sounds like high school to me. it's as if you're just ranting that "oh why can't high school be like this? in just two years, i'll be graduating." that since you weren't able to go back to highschool and that you're in a community college that offers the same stuff as highschool only it ends earlier, you already assume that highschool is a waste of time and money. it's as if you're just rationalizing. it depends really. most companies would prefer college grads who have lots of experience. sometimes it doesn't really matter for a company what kind of degree you have. it's the experience that matters. for me, a master's degree is a proof how a person has dedicated himself to his chosen career and will try to help improve it. a very immature and disturbing statement. why do you think that it's about suffering? most people here have already said they went/go to high school because they believe it's fun, and that they get to meet a lot of new friends that could probably end up their life long friends, if not relationships. most teens would want to stay teens for a little while longer so they could enjoy their life a little bit more because they know things would be different once they step out to college, and here you are trying to hurry your life by going to college and ranting that high school is a waste of time. here's an excerpt from wikipedia. i've put your point in bold letters, along with the whole point of one of the essence of what highschool is. indeed the employers need not look at the secondary education of the applicant, because it doesn't apply to the job's requirements at all. just like sarcastically saying, "oh maybe 4 years of primary education shouldn't be necessary anymore as well". the point is "it's a part of the training" and like what wikipedia says "it's a part of life." like what i've said, it seems that you're just rationalizing on the issue.
  24. well generalizing on the subject wouldn't be the best thing to do, since most men and women are different, especially in their views. i really can't think of something that i like from women in general. there are some qualities that i can use for generalization, but i still don't think it's appropriate. as for expectations, i really don't have any expectations when it comes to women. all i know is they should be themselves and try not be others. well it is believed that men die young because they don't know how to express their emotions properly, unlike women. women release the tension that is built up deep inside by crying when they're hurt, or just be expressive. unlike men, who usually end up drowning themselves in beer to forget the problem, women let their emotions out to make it easier for them. this also keeps the stress level down. men who keep their problems to themselves get stressed out and sometimes gets sick because of that. and yeah, i believe this topic has been up somewhere deep within the recesses of the great fora of trap 17.
  25. i don't think it would scare her, as long as you make your point as subtle as possible (although, sending her a poem like that on valentine's day would make it more obvious). but as i've said, i'd rather you tell her about how you appreciate her and her friendship, and that you would want to continue on being friends with her as long as possible.
