System Does Not Detect Dvd/cdrom Drive
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Hardware Workshop
um... i don't think that would be an option. i don't think i have the right to do that. after all, it's not my laptop. and even if i can do that, i probably won't do it because i'd be risking the laptop and might do more damage. -
so i came home from school and my brother told me that my mom's laptop doesn't detect the dvd/cd rom drive (the drive icon doesn't show up in My Computer). he told me that the drive doesn't even open up (meaning he can't put any cd there). i thought he was just joking so i just shrugged it off. that was until i checked the laptop myself. he was right. the drive is not detected and the icon doesn't show up in the My Computer window. when i checked the drive, the drive light was on (just on, not blinking or anything). i tried pushing the open drive button but the drive doesn't even twitch or something (for lack of a better term). i checked the device manager and it doesn't indicate any dvd/cd rom drive (which was weird). i restarted the laptop and checked the bios and it doesn't indicate any dvd/cd rom drive (meaning it doesn't detect any drive). i'm kinda worried because my brother and i are the only ones who uses the laptop (even though it was my mom's laptop), and my mom might blame us for that.the last thing i remember i've done using the drive was just burn a data cd (for backing up my files). i don't know if that would have any adverse affect on the drive or something. the last thing i've done in the laptop was to update the windows operating system using windows update and after i've installed all the updates, i've already closed the laptop and didn't do anything else.the laptop's model is asus a6r. i'll have to check the website to see if i could get help from there as well.

i don't see anything unfair about going to a private school. in fact that's more of a privilege. i believe someone has mentioned before that middle-class families strive hard enough to bring their kids to private school. not only that, there are private schools, like catholic schools that cater to specific religions in order for students to become more attached to their religion and at the same time enhance their other abilities thru the school itself. well, it's not really the kids who will decide on that, it's their parents. and i don't think changing private schools would be as simple as that. i think another person has also mentioned that it's obvious for your friend to be easily included in the team since they only have few people there. and if you ever have to work yourself up to get a slot, then it means that there are lots of people who really have the potential to be in the team. who knows, the team that would be created would be far better than your friend's team. just because he easily got in doesn't mean he's more or less better than anybody else. of course the training would help a lot. anyway, the problem arises if only your class can support more than one teams. of course financially, it would be a problem since public schools don't have enough funding for more than one team, let alone train them. if this would have been your argument then i would understand how you feel. but to just let it out and say private schools should be removed just because of that... well, maybe you have to rethink about it.

well that wasn't really much of an advise considering that he can't approach the girl in the first place. but anyway, whoever said only the jocks are cool? yeah sure some girls do have the hearts for these types of guys, but any guy who can pull off his own stuff can be appealing as well. you don't have to pressure yourself too much. if you think others are pressuring you, then you have to keep your cool. the primary reason why you can't even have the guts to approach the girl is that you don't have enough confidence on yourself. look at yourself in the mirror and assess yourself. stress on the good stuff, those that you think you have that others don't. i've always said this before, the problem with people is that they look at what they don't have rather than the opposite, so they end up envying other people. this way you could build that self-confidence up so you could be able to come up to her and talk to her. and i'm not saying that you should take this advice too far and be a show off or become arrogant or something. it's just supposed to give you that boost so you could gather courage to face her. building up the confidence will give you a different aura, an aura that the people will find very strong and convincing but not arrogant. hope that helps.

i understand your situation. it was your pet's time to go and you've said it yourself, it goes to show that every living creature in this world will, at some point, wither and pass away (i'd rather use the phrase than the 'd' word). and it goes to show that not only humans have the 'essence' or soul. i've been deceived all my childhood by people who say that animals, other than humans, do not have souls. but anyway, my point is that it will hurt, and it will take time. mourn, cry if you have to, it will help you more in moving on.i have a pet dog once, she's not of any special breed... or should i say that she's more of a hybrid dog. ever since she was born, i took care of her. she grew up and had babies which i had no problem raising as well (unfortunately, we had to give them out, since we can't afford to own too many pets at home). when she was about 10 years old or so, she had her last 2 babies, whom we never gave out. i was glad since i could raise two more dogs, dogs that were of the lineage of my great pet. everything was fine until a tragedy struck. all of the sudden my pet got sick. i just thought she wasn't in the mood or was just tired until i realized she couldn't even stand up and eat. moments later, she died. when we were burying her, we noticed that one of her puppies looked tired. i was thinking it was sad because his mother was already dead (or something like that). then we found out a bit later that the puppy was also sick and died the same day. two days later, the last puppy died as well. it was like an epidemic that only attacked the family of my pet. and the experience was so traumatic, since all of them died in just one week.i think it proves the point that once we get attached to someone (or something like a pet, for that matter), it's hard to let go. and when these things come, the inevitable, we have no choice but to accept it. we just keep in mind that some time in the future, we hope that we would be reunited with them again.with regards to your father not crying, sometimes (like one person stated) people can build up the tolerance when it comes to these things. and it doesn't make them heartless for not even shedding a tear or something. sometimes a person has to stay strong, whatever and how devastating a situation may be. and this will help those in need of a strong support, for these people need to feel that somehow they can depend on these people to have a shoulder to cry on to. and i may sound sexist for saying this, but society has created this idealogy that men are not supposed to show any sign of weakness. but of course, that was to back up my statement. i'm not saying that when you cry, you're not strong. people can have their own ways of expressing their feelings and emotions. and it's not forbidden for someone to let his/her own emotions. crying is one form of letting go of that excess baggage that has built up through time. as they say in matters of who is the better sex, women tend to live longer and crying/showing emotions is one of the factors. men tend to hide their emotions which can build up and can cause problems in the future.anyway, i hope you get my point. it's not that your dad is emotionless or something. look at him as if he's trying to be a strong person so you could have a "shoulder to cry on".

Girls And Bathrooms. You always wanted to know...
master_bacarra replied to hedzup's topic in Science and Technology
i'd rather use the word 'chat' because it doesn't imply any negative connotation as the word 'gossip' do. girls go to the bathroom in groups because they love to chat with each other. i probably think it's more of the girly stuff so i really don't know much what they are talking about. if they talk about guys like the way guys talk about girls then i guess we're pretty much even. hehe. -
oh... i didn't know that. but it's a good thing in some way. at least they prioritize their own people first. they wouldn't feel alienated in their own land and at least they won't develop colonial mentality. please don't take this as an offense. it's not against you or anything at all.

with regards to obese people using scooters, well with their condition, they aren't really allowed to walk in long periods of time, or in the worst case, to stand in long periods of time. it has something to do with their legs. the pressure of their body is placed heavily on their legs so it gives a lot of pressure on the joints, which would be harmful in more ways than one. that is why when doctors advise their obese patients to exercise, they have to do the "low impact" exercises, such as bicycling and swimming (i think swimming is far better, in my opinion). as they loose weight, they can do more of the high impact exercises as advised by the doctor. of course, the doctor's advise helps a lot. one doesn't want to compromise his health by doing some extraneous activities just to lose weight.with regards to the fast food chains, yeah, they contribute to obesity. but it's mainly because of the calories that their meals contain. the whole blame should be put on the person him/herself who consumes more of these stuff. more meaning frequency of consumption. i think there was this guy who documented how much he has gained by ordering his meals in fast food chains. and consuming these kinds of food in a week. i think the title's "up size me" or something like that.

well if the games they make target those of the kids in school, then they won't have any problem. that's why i don't get it why you've said that "they would have problems selling it to the public". if they know their target well, then it should sell... given that they have the ability to sell them.but of course, the introduction of games in the educational system might seem to be a bit farfetched, with the reputation of video games and its effects on kids nowadays. and it will take great effort and time before people could accept that. proper guidance of superiors and parents will guide the children to a better path, especially when it comes to video games.

wow... i didn't know about this. the only problem i had with mozilla was, for some reason after i turned on my computer for me to surf the net, all of the sudden all the images doesn't show in mozilla. do they have issues with png extensions? but if i'm not mistaken it goes the same with other image formats. might as well try the new version. maybe it solves the problem there.thanks!

it becomes a disability when they don't exert any effort at all, trying to make sense of what fat really is. but i don't think not all obese people are like that. i think it only encompasses obese people who have lost their self-actualization. there are fat people who always keep a positive attitude and thus making them loveable as they are.

speaking of wap, i've done some programming on that and i think it's fairly easy. and if i get the time, i'd probably do a mobile version of my website. although i'm thinking of buying a mobile phone that can connect to the internet, not for testing (since there are lots of emulators out there), just for a change of phones (i've been using the same old phone like 4 years now).right now i'm doing programming on mobile games

Leaving Your Computer On? - is this good for it?
master_bacarra replied to nickmealey's topic in Software
i'm using my mom's laptop right now and it has been open for two days straight now. the longest was 6 days, i think. i'm in an airconditioned room so the heating is not a problem. and this is a private establishment so the electricity is paid by the company but of course, i do close this laptop every now and then. it's just that i'm developing an application that requires the laptop to be open (i run a server here and work on a different pc). and now that you've mentioned it, i'd probably shut this down when i sleep tonight (i just remembered this is the only time i'm going to be able to sleep!). -
i can't seem to read most of the characters that you typed (it only shows questionmarks in my monitor), but just as the same i think learning the language is cool. i know someone (who was a contestant in one of the known reality shows in US) who can speak fluent mandarin because he grew up in vietnam i think and then his family transferred to america when he was a kid.my mom encourages me to study it "just in case" i go work in china or something to that effect.

use avg if you don't have the resources to buy the commercial ones. i've read an article over the internet entitled 46 best-ever freeware utilities indicating avg, alongside ad-aware, spybot s&d, and ewido for the best freeware when it comes to protection from virus and spyware.but of course i won't guarantee you a perfect output. there are new viruses that come out almost everyday, and it's best to have the precaution for these stuff. and of course prevention is always better than cure--you should be aware of the sites that you surf and stuff that you download over the internet.well, my argument would be nullified if i told my experience about this matter.

you know the cliche "actions speak more than words"? expressing one's love for another doesn't only come down to saying "i love you". there are a lot of ways of expressing love, and most of it roots from one's actions, instead of them saying the words. the tricky thing about words is that you don't know the underlying meaning of the words--the real intention of the speaker. true, saying "i love you" can be flattering, but that would only happen if the speaker really means it, and the only way you can tell is for you to read his/her actions accompanying the words. although there are people who can really fake it, it takes a lot of skill to know if someone means what he/she says. with regards to your father not saying "i love you" to you not often when you were a child, well, you know males aren't really the gender who is best when it comes to expressing their love, especially on the same sex. and "i love you" isn't really the best words to use to express a father's feelings toward his son. filial love is different from your relationship with your past/current girlfriends. like what i've said, there are other ways. he may not be saying "i love you" to you but he could show it anyways, like by being buddies with you. "does she love me? i don't hear her say it often. maybe she doesn't love me anymore"... maybe you should start off by trusting her. your inability to trust your partner could lead you to the wrong path. the experience you've had with your past girlfriends should not be treated as suffering or bad experience. true, it may be hurtful for someone, and to start with another relationship could bring fear that the same thing would happen. but you could always learn from a relationship. it may not have worked out for the both of you, but at least you would be more wiser the next time, and hopefully don't fall for the same thing again. the whole point is for you to be observant, a very keen one. as i've said, it takes a lot of skill to understand actions and their underlying meaning. this is because others can be misleading, and in the worst case scenario, you would probably worsten the situation by arguing more about it. and of course, it's not only one way. you should also do your part. it's not enough by saying "how should i trust that she loves me". it's more of a prerogative in a relationship for two people to have trust for each other.

What's Your Favorite Way To Start Your Day? ...
master_bacarra replied to Milovoriel's topic in General Discussion
this is what people who have time to sleep talk about. i personally don't have time to sleep so i don't know how i should answer this question since i'm mostly awake for almost 24 hours.but whenever i do have time to sleep and wake up in the morning, the first thing i do is connect to the internet and listen to my favorite radio station online. then i cook my own breakfast and eat it in front of the computer. yeah, after four years in my course at school, i've pretty much transformed into a computer/internet freak. whenever we have problems with the electricity, i usually go ballistic if i don't have access to the internet.when i'm too tired to do something meaningful to start my day, i usually just end up getting back in bed to sleep more -
Free Sms Service. How can send free sms?
master_bacarra replied to ĐeadHunter's topic in Science and Technology
yeah i use sms.ac but that's the only case when my phone doesn't have load. i also use yahoo! messenger's sms service, but i think there's a limit to the number of sms messages you can send. -
well, first of all, it's not really advisable for one to wear contact lenses too long. i have a time limit as to when i can wear my contact lenses. usually i could wear contact lenses for 12 hours maximum, but whenever my eyes get tired or feel dry, i need to take the lenses off. i've tried sleeping with my lenses on, but that was once, due to my carelessness. i was so tired, i fell asleep instantly, forgetting to remove the lenses. when i woke up like two to three hours later, i realized i still had the lenses on. i was happy i could still see. you wanna know why? because if you sleep with your contact lenses on, there's a chance that the lenses would slip behind your eyeball and you might not be able to remove it, and worse, you might not be able to see again. the reason why the lenses could slip behind your eyeball is because of REM. during sleep, there's a stage called Rapid-Eye movement (REM) where the eyes move in different directions. this will cause the lenses to move along with the cornea and could slip while the eyeball continues to move. i've heard someone here that almost lost her sight because of it.with regards to prolong use, like what opaque said, you should allow your eyes to breathe. you should also let your tears do the job in re-wetting the eyes because wearing lenses too long will cause your eyes to dry. that's why it's one of the cliches "it's okay for you to cry" not because of showing weakness, but because it's helpful for your eyes. not only that it washes away the dirt, it also re-wets the eyes.fyi, did you know that the cornea is the fastest healing part of our body? that's probably the best reason for you to take good care of your eyes especially when you're wearing contact lenses. contact lenses could damage the cornea while you wear it. although there are topical creams that would help in recovering the scratches made by the lenses, people could be allergic to some of these creams. and if used incorrectly, it might do more harm than good.

well, it's a flattery for a girl/woman to like you. and i think your girlfriend shouldn't be offended by that. although i have to admit that you should draw a line that she should not cross when it comes to being open about her feelings toward you. i think you should confront her by telling her that if she really has feelings for you, then she should understand that what she's doing isn't gonna do both of you (and of course your girlfriend as well) any good. tell her that you're serious and that what she's doing might be bad for her as well. she should know and understand that you already have a special someone.now if she's still persistent and if you're humble enough, you could at least tell her, "why not let's be friends? i think it's far better than us having a relationship as lovers"... or something to that wavelength. you know it takes a lot of patience to do such stuff. and of course you should also tell your girlfriend about it so she might have an intelligent opinion about the situation. after all, she's your girlfriend. she should at least have the right to know what is happening.

Am I Ready To Have A Sexual Relationship? HELP
master_bacarra replied to playboyhan666's topic in Dating And Relationships
hehehe. keep thinking about it until you reach 20+ years old. haha! :)seriously speaking, true, teenagers today have the greatest curiousity when it comes to their sexuality. and sometimes it is a good thing that they discover things at an early age, but it usually ends up to be more of a nuisance in the long run. discovering and exploring your own sexuality is good in a way, but one has to be guided in order for him/her to go to the proper way. i'm not saying you should go to someone who has more experience in sex. what i'm saying is that there are a lot of options a teenager has before engaging in such actions. these options can help a teenager in discovering their own sexuality the "proper" way (i wouldn't say "right" way, because there's not really a right way for someone with raging hormones). (i find it amusing that this topic was just discussed earlier in school. great timing.)one of the options is sex education. a teenager has to be educated first in order to know the basics, the ups and downs of engaging in such actions. these include the knowledge about the health aspects that one has to be aware of. engaging in sex with so many partners would lead to danger of getting sexually transmitted disease, most often than not are deadly. it also makes sure that anyone who engages in sex is aware of the consequences of doing such actions.another option, which is usually tackled in sex education, is the usage of contraceptives. we all know that a person's sexual urge has to be released one way or the other. and if one cannot hold back the longingness of "physical contact", contraceptives can help a lot.speaking of sexual urge, sex is one of the basic needs of man, so that means it's normal say such things as "i think i'm ready for sex". that sexual urge builds up and has to be released. other than having sex to release the urge, one can also divert his/her attention to stuff that could transform this urge and release it out of the body. this is what we call sublimation, where a person uses acts other than sex to release that urge. an example is painting, or dancing. in these acts, the sexual urge is transformed and released into an aesthetic or artistic form.this is getting too long. but i hope you get my point. -
Macintosh Or Windows Which will you choose?
master_bacarra replied to darran's topic in Operating Systems
i actually feel like shifting to mac after i get my first salary when i get a job i promised myself that i would buy a mac and probably stay there. most of my professors in school use mac and i really find it interesting. i've seen them use the laptops while teaching and i've seen how fast a mac runs, compared to windows... my thesis professor is a mac addict (or so i think) because he you could see him carrying mac products anywhere he goes.the primary reason i wanted to shift to mac is because i'm tired of using windows. aside from the fact that i usually get virus attacks frequently, i really find windows loading slower and gets slower as time passes by. i've read from a blog somewhere over the internet that a typical windows os degrades every 6 or so months before you could reinstall it again. in my case, that's the longest. i usually have to reinstall windows like three or four months. what a pain if you ask me.second is that since i've seen how mac works, i'm quite impressed with what it has to offer. the virtual os is one of the coolest (in relation to mac being fast). i mean imagine installing a windows as a virtual os and not have the hassles of a slow loading time? what could be better than that?true, mac may be pricey, but what the heck right? if you have the money, why not spend it to something that offer better service and could last a long time than something that is cheap but really unreliable.
