  1. For me, the easiest answer to this question is "As long as I can". This is because my folks always used to steal the computer from me. But ever since our newer Windows XP computer went bust recently, they haven't been interested in using a computer anymore.Usually it turns out that I use a computer for 3 to 4 hours on weekdays, and up to twelve hours on weekends. Nowadays, however, I try to limit myself, and thanks to a hobby I've developed recently, this has dramtically decreased.
  2. These are truly great tips which everyone should follow. In fact, the first two are necessities for good web sites. 3, 4 and 5 are also good, for linkage.I wouldn't reccomend number 7 all the time, however. Some forums prevent advertising in their Registration Terms. Also, too many links can mess up a site. There is one quick way to summarise these nine points up, however: ADVERTISE! If you frequently and effectively advertise your site, you'll get the visitors just pouring in.
  3. I know what you mean, ink. We are so dependant on the internet for communication and transportation nowadays, losing it would be a big blow. I have this book called "The Incredible Internet" which lists everything that'd happen if "Digital Doomsday", comes true. Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced it, so I cant tell you what it says.
  4. Hey, you said you were gonna comment about Linux, too... so where's the Linux in that list?
  5. I'll have a look at this. In my expirience, McAfee is faulty, so it is not to be trusted. Also I used to use McAfee on my XP COmputer and everytime I tried to use it's interface, it crashed 'cos it was so damn laggy. Download.com is also too laggy, even on my broadband connection. As for AVG Firewall, well I'm currently using AVG Viruscan Free and that rocks, but I don't have much money... so I'll think about it. I know that. In fact, just four months ago Windows stopped all support for 98, which annoyed me. But this is a shared comp, so I'd have to ask my folks if I could do an upgrade. And they don't have the money for it. That one didn't work for me. I tried it before.
  6. Actually, while it may not be possible to remove the internet, it is possible to create a way to stop people from using it. Have you heard of, "Digital Doomsday"? This is a theory that, what with all the internet hackers getting smarter every day, soon someone will have figured out a way to send a powerful virus to everyone connected to the internet, with the ability to permanently jam the connections. This basically will make the internet useless, which is just as bad as destroying it, really.
  7. I have to agree with you there - microsoft have hit a new low. Just what the hell are they planning by telling everyone "don't use (another companys service), it's a virus!"? I wonder how long it will be before this gets microsoft sued like the jerks that they are. Now that just made me laugh. It really goes to show how rich people believe BIll Gates is, and how they find him untrustworthy because of it.
  8. Cool to hear someone is studying writing and speaking in Chinese. It's a very good language to know. I'd like to do that myself, but with Japanese. I don't have good memory though.
  9. While I was on this website doing security checks on my old Windows 98 computer, it pointed out that my computer is vulnerable because some ports are open. And that made me remember that I haven't installed a firewall on it!So can anyone suggest to me some good firewall software? Preferably one that has a low or zero price? It would really help my security. Many thanks in advance.
  10. That's a good way to do things. Hopefully that will deter all the constant spammers. And yeah, I know how frustrating it is trying to fix even simple mistakes in codes. Then can you do it, OpaQue? Pretty Please? Because that'd really help out...
  11. There's another reason why I like flip phones, especially ones like the Motorola Razr. They look A LOT like the communicators in Star Trek...
  12. This is a very helpful security tool which I will definately be using from now on!
  13. As Plenoptic rightly said, MSN Live Messenger already supports instant messaging to Yahoo. Also, Yahoo already announced plans to make their IM work with MSN a month ago. So this is very late news. However, I agree with you: this IS a real challenge for Google Talk, and I can't wait to see how they respond.
  14. Aww man... I don't have a google account, so I can't see what the hell you're all laughing at! Sounds like it's something good, too...
  15. I can't believe that with all my knowledge of coding, I didn't even THINK of using META-Redirects, especially since I've used them before. Thanks mate.I actually don't need a way to retrieve a filename, as I use a portal system which creates php pages for each one anyway, so I can just copy the same coding to each page and change the name myself. It may be a bit more long-winded, but to be honest, I think the time and memory it'd save far outways that. But I still don't know how to do the download counter...
  16. I think this a very clever idea and a great way to get people involved. Unfortunately, like OpaQue, I suck at graphics. But I'll give it a shot. I'm having trouble getting to your site to see the street however... keep getting "server not found" errors... can you enlighten me on this? Notice from jlhaslip: edit to include new project address http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  17. In all of my life, every website that I've made has had some form of downloadable on it. Even to today, I am still doing the downloads by linking directly to the download. However, I feel that this is impractical, not user-friendly, and insecure. So now I'm asking a favour of the community. Can you teach me to make a php script that will, when someone visits it, say something like: Thank you for Downloading!Your Download of (filename) will start shortly.Click here to go back to the website. Then it starts a download of the file? Also, is it possible to make it count the amount of times the file has been downloaded, and show that before the "Click to go back" link? Or if not, just one that will count how many times the script has been executed. Many thanks.
  18. I wouldn't say that, exactly. Some women are better than man at some things, and some men are better than women and some things. And not all women are as smart as each other... Amen to that! But then again, do you know anyone who wants to do their job?
  19. SSL is like the encription code or language that make a secure site really secure. So as you can see, I already knew what it was. It just didn't click to me that the SSL manager was used for that. My brains been kinda in-and-out recently (which explains my continual post-and-then-leave-for-a-week routine...)
  20. Finally I know how it is done! Although, I can't use photoshop... I wonder if there is another way to make an icon...Many thanks.Edit: Thanks buffalo for posting those icon coverters. I should have seen them BEFORE I posted this...
  21. Yes, this is a clear violation of the rules.I like this news however - it sounds really cool, and means that I have another option if I lose my Wii controller!
  22. I agree. If everyone started charging for email and search services, then I would pay for Google as they are the best. But seeing as how they don't, I won't!
  23. Great tips, but Shouldn't this be in the "Search Engine Optimisation" section?
  24. Albus, Galahad, and nutron have summed up everything I was just about to say about Firefox 2.0. I've been testing it since RC2 and I've never looked back, and now that they've made an official release I am forever using it. Thay's just how good it is.
