  1. +1 for Stinger, I use it each time my system behaves strangely.by the way, disabling the Windows system backup is a normal thing, because if you had a worm or a virus, it's backed up and will appear as you restore your system backup.
  2. I also say Mandriva for a first trial. Also, before installing Mandriva, create a FAT32 partition on your Microsoft Windows system, this will be automatically handled as writable by Mandriva, which will help you with Linux/Windows interoperability.Leave the other distros, like RedHat and Ubunto, for further, when Mandriva will have shown that installing Linux is very easy and using it is obvious.Of course, Madrake is slightly better than Mandriva, but right now you don't need the differences.Regards Yordan
  3. I used the speed-meter with my keyboard training software. However, it should be better if all of us could use the same speedmeter. I just measured my speed with http://www.typingtest.com/ I was disappointed finding only 78 wpm (4 errors, net speed 74WPM) Maybe all of us should start with this test, so we have the same reference ?
  4. I usually create 20 gig partitions : it's faster to defrag a 20 giga empty partition than a 40 gig half-full partition.
  5. I have currently three network adapters, and no problem, no need to unconfigure anything.Simly, remember that two different adapters must go to two physical different networks. Do you have several separate networks near your computer ?
  6. Have to check again, I think last time I measured I was around 240.
  7. Correct. However, for debugging purposes, it could be suitable to do it temporarily. Like today, this showed that these "permission denied" problems are not due to real user rights, because chmod 777 changed nothing. This allowed to go to the right direction.
  8. Sorry, I name "front" the part facing to me, it's a matter of definition of course.
  9. Such is life. The trick is to use it if it provides you far more money than the price of the licence.
  10. What are your directory settings ? From the logs it seems that the guy doing the ftp (the one who give his username and password) is not the owner of the filesystem, while the filesystem's umask is 022. Simply, if the guy who wants to perform the ftp is georges just try "chown -R georges ." (don't forget the "." !
  11. I think you don't care when you buy a mouse.I think you should pay attention if you see that the look and feel of your mouse seems to have changed, with a strange transparent blue front part. If you did not buy such a mouse by yourself, you should call the nearest Police officier.
  12. Just for clearness and completeness. Please try to connect using FileZilla in "Passive" mode. This mode is set up inside FileZilla, go the Sites Menu, click your site, then choose "advanced" choose "passive" mode instead of "active" or "automatic" mode. Please tell me first if this works. Then we will have to fix why vsftpd needs passive mode to be manually set.On some sites I really have to set this mode to passive, on other site I have seen "automatic" to automatically switch to passive when asked by the remote host.RegardsYordan
  13. I have noticed that with Mandrake, the FAT32 files are mounted as r/W, and the NTFS files are read-only in fstab.
  14. I have two FAT32 partitions on my ST380013AS SATA disk, they formatted without any problem. If it worked on my system, it should work on yours, it's not due to SATA.
  15. They host your pages, they host your images. You have a space quota. You can delete your pages, but you cannot delete your images : only upload.
  16. VNC can use enkrypted passwords, so it's partly secure.
  17. They require nothing. No ads, no banner, no text link. However, remember that they only offer the something.uni.cc domain name : no disk space, no site hosting.
  18. False. My computer boots automatically with my username and password, and is locked by the screensaver if I don't type or touch the mouse during one minute. Then I have to click in my name and give my password. By the way, dhanesh's user has no password, which is ever worse than booting automatically with a password.
  19. Really depends on version. On my system I have to do cd $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin ./apachectl stop ./apachectl start sounds rather different, isn't it ?
  20. Thanks a lot, now I see the problem. My board simply does not show my signature, even if it's pure text ! the "always attach my signature" is set to yes, but the signature is not displayed. It's probably a bug of the current phpbb2 version. Does it work on your board ?
  21. Read the forum rules, no such things here !
  22. I know how to attach an image in my signature at the Xisto main forum.I would like to know how to do it in my hosted phpbb2 forum, the one I created with fantastico.I tried simply put the same one with the same syntax, no image appears.
