Video Card: Need Help On Purchasing A Video Card
wutske replied to SpartacusUSTASA's topic in Hardware Workshop
Really depends on how much money you want to spend and what bus you currently have.If you have an AGP slot for your graka (most likely), you'll probably won't get anything higher than a nV6600GT.On the other hand, if you have a PCIe slot, you can go as high as a 7800GTX .What card dou you have now and how much money would you like to spend on the new card ???And what's the rest of the computer (cpu and memory) -
If you want to create a whole list with eg all your song (if they have good naming), you can simply go to the folder with the music and type dir /b > c:\file.txt This will create a file in the root folder. The input might look like this (this is my stupid songs folder )

Task Manager Processes: Which Are Safe To Shutdown
wutske replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Terminating services will only affect the system untill you reboot, so it's better to terminate them in the management console and change their boot settings. A good site (visited it today and disabled somes services too ) is http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm . If you REALLY don't know what you do, you should check dependencies, make shure you have made a systemrestore point, registry-backup and remember what you changed. Ow, and another thing that might happen when you disable a wrong services is that famous 60sec. shutdown dialoge (remember the virus that kept shutting down computers all over the worlld ). Try it, kill the RemoteProcedureCall -

Building Your Own TV / Movie Projector ( Very Cheap )
wutske replied to golgothurteen's topic in Hardware Workshop
So it could cost you something from $250-600 ??? Still expensive, you can do that for $5 (saw it on Brainiac, but quality sucked big time ) This free guide shows you how to make one from an old overheadprojector. Ok, it's bulky, but it works too (and if you're lucky you could make it for less than $100 ) -
You might consider getting one of maxtors newest drives with 16Mb cache, could speed up things a bit .The RAID0 thing is also a good idea, but remember that chances to loose your data because of a disk failure will double (2 disks can die, if one dies, everything is lost, now way to repair the data).

Where Can I Find Free Ftp Uploaders ?
wutske replied to marco1405241510's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I use filezilla, tough if it is for once, you could also use the one you get with windows or linux. In command/shell:ftpo ftp.whathever.com/*it should now connect*/enter usernameenter passwordstart browsing on your ftp sever to the folder where you want to put the filesend "path to local file" "filename.extention it should be on the server"./*it should now upload*/Ok, I know, it's a bad explanation, just get filezilla or something -
Programmersheaven.com: Great Programming Site
wutske replied to TrianGulum's topic in Websites and Web Designing
looks like a great site. I should start learning C again, but I'm soo lazy and manage to have soo less time . -
This looks more easy than it realy is. Dual Monitor shouldn't pose any problems, but when you start connecting a TV it gets harder. There are a lot of problems you can get, like totaly nothing, or only grayscale, scattered view, ...Google should normaly give a solution for the problem.Another nice thing about todays technology is MORE, what about ... 4 monitors . You only need SLI setup that isn't configed as a SLI setup (tough I thing nV has already changed that, so you can have 4 monitors in SLI).There also on thing I doubt about, is it realy possible to have 2 monitors and a TV connected to your graka at the same time ???

Always google.

Windows Live Cd And its an MS-free project
wutske replied to rantsh's topic in Websites and Web Designing
There isn't realy a thing illegal about it, because it uses ur own WindowsXP cd.And, you run on a single machine (the one that crashed) and you don't run them together (because the other install crashed) I wouldn't realy bother too much about it, I never do -
Where, Oh Where To Start.. Anyone Have Time On Their Hands?
wutske replied to TheN00b101's topic in Software
Get a book, it's much better to learn that from a book than from a webpage.I have a great book for C: A Book on C - Programming in C (Benjamin/Cummings Publishing co.). Realy great one, too bad I don't have much time and inspiration to learn and write programs -
Your Opinion Please: Shopping For A New OS
wutske replied to m3ch4's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you want to go cheap, try to find a second handed Win98 cd and key, no probs if you install it on more computers. If you want to go for linux, then get Suse, I have it running on nearly the same system (except it has 192Mb memory and a way to slow and small 3.2Gb Hdd).Works like a charm -

What's Your Profession? Let the community see who you are
wutske replied to twitch's topic in Introductions
I'm still a student (I don't like it now, but later, when I have to work I'd probably wish I could be a student again ), next year (if I pass this year) I'll probably go to High School or University, but I still have no idea what I'm going to study -
I you want to make a good (following the standards) webpage, I'd suggest to write html pur-sang (notepad, AceHTML, ... will do the trick), if that isnt' possible, then don't use strontpage. Dreamweaver is much better, because it follows the rules much better (not perfect, but nothing is).One rule you may never forget (no, beter, 2 rules):-You make a site for the content, not for the looks (ok, except if that's the main point about your site).-You make a site the everybody can read (browsers, OS'es, ...)

hasn't there already been a topic with the same question ?Anyway, for Anti-virus, I use Avast Home for on-access protection, it works very good, I get a lot of virus warning on some sites, so that means he does work .From time to time I do a full scan using FreeAV and/or Bitdefender, only viri that got onto my computer is Eicar (allow it) and a worm (start.exe), but that one is in an zip folder and can't infect as long as I don't run it.For Spyware, I use ad-aware and Spybot S&D, sometimes I run A-squared and looong time ago I've run M$ Anti-spyware.For the rest, I have spywareblaster, but that's useless, since I don't use IE or FF (Opera rocks all the way), but I have a good HOSTS file.Firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, damned good one

wutske replied to wutske's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Seems like Xisto causes SYN Floods Dear User Your router has detected and protected you against an attempt to gain access to your network. This may have been an attempted hacker intrusion, or perhaps just your Internet Service Provider doing routine network maintenance. Most of these network probes are nothing to be worried about - these types of random probes should NOT be reported, but you may want to report repeated intrusions attempts. Save this email for comparison with future alert messages. Your router Alert Information Time: 10/26/2005, 18:31:22 Message: SYN Flood to Host Source: 10.a.b.c, 1182 (=me) Destination:69.50.168.69, 80 (from PPPoE1 Outbound) Visit the UXN Combat Spam web site to get more detailed information about the intruder - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 1. Type the intruder's IP address into the IP WHOIS search engine 2. Click the Query Button 3. Detailed network and administration information will be displayed Received 3 of those messages . Will check if one of them matches the ARP Packet time I received from my router -
Visit My Site, Internet Stops For A While
wutske replied to wutske's topic in Websites and Web Designing
ooh god, it's getting worse. Internet (only website, no chat problems) keeps giving problems, but my firewall warned me for a spoofing packet (ARP reply). My sister had problems too with the internet, so I'll talk about it with my father. But the error I started this topic for already existed before. -
I have this strange problem. Everytime I visit my site (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/), I can't surf for 30-60sec. and my site never loads it's pictures. I have no idea what I could be. My firewall is set to 'enable all', so that can't be the problem. I'm using opera (don't know if it happens in IE, gonna check that out later). Anybody knows what the problem is ??? No one else seem to have the problem, so plz help me, because I can't administer my site anymore -----Merged with above-----szupie forgot to mention this, Mercury (MSN) doesn't seem to have any problems. Checked it on other pcs (win2K-Opera/IE, SUSE-FF/Opera, winXP-IE) and it worked w/o problems. -----Merged with above-----szupie merge if wanted. Tested it on my pc again. First test: in IE, worked Second test: in Opera, failed, no Internet, but I can chat Tirth test: in IE, Internet works, chat works, but server not found and my site doesn't work at all.

Computer Shuts Down - Why? Unknown Cause...so stumped
wutske replied to Grafitti's topic in Hardware Workshop
nope, fan speed should go up when the cpu temperature rises. About the GPU temperature, could you stress the vid card (rthdribl -> http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) and then check in the nVidia drivers how hot the GPU is ? And other thing you might check is the memory, since video-editting and gaming is pretty memory intensive. You could use memtest68 for it (can't be run in windows, (that's the good part because every block of the memory is tested) but you can make a bootable floppy) -
I used to do it for people at my dad's work.About warranty, give them the same as the shop where you buy the stuff does, so you can't get in to money problems.About support, it depends, you can give them 3months, 6 months, ... of support, any type you prefer. The best thing is to give them a few months of support at their home. After that period, the could bring the pc at home and you fix it as fast as possible. After some time, repairs might take longer.I've only had one problem so far. Windows kept giving bad_boot_device, the HDD was replaced 2 times, it appeared the VIA KT600 chip gave troubles (wich one didn't ). Ow, and make a contract, price, warranty, ... AND STATE THEY SHOULD KEEP EVERY BOX TO GET WARRANTY !!!
