Don't Overclock Your Notebook! instead, down-volt it
wutske replied to irwan6179's topic in Hardware Workshop
Why should it be bad ? PowerNow!, Speedstep, C&Q change the CPU all the time. It can be bad, eg, my Nforce 2 can change voltage on the fly, but when the CPU is loaded, and I up the voltage, the vreg fails and puts 2.2v throug my cpu and it crashes (+ it remains 2.2v till reset). Same for lowering the voltages, it gets 1.1v and crashes. -
Opera registered is the best for me (even unregistered rules ). It just goes a lot faster, instead of loading the same image 20 times (like IE tends to do) it just loads it once and then uses it's cache (it often uses the cache).I like the mouse gestures most, they are a lot better than the FF extension gestures.I also use the built-in mail system, it works great for me.

Firewalls Anti-virus, Anti-Spyvware and firewalls
wutske replied to jonassen-tjader's topic in Software
I use Sygate Firewall, it realy rocks, but I don't use it for internet->pc sercurity. Main reason I have it is to control (if you lose control, then you're scr****) the applications on my computer. Only downside is that it isn't compatible with Mercury Messenger, it hangs when MM is running (but that also happens to the windows file protection message).I don't like Kerio/Tiny, because it doesn't allow some SPF settings (or not as easy).Same for zonealarm (tough it's a long time ago I've tested it). -
My oldie laptop (486 120Mhz - 16Mb ram) is ready (to work) after 5-6 minutes, it's running win98 btw.Luckily for me, I don't use it

Reinstall Windows Xp without having to reinstall current appl
wutske replied to soleimanian's topic in Software
doesn't this clean up your whole registry, and application information/settings/keys/... and necessairy application data (realy needed for an app to run ???).I also want to say that this does not remove viri, adware, spyware and other infections. -
It's not the fastest card around, but it'll do fine. http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/tul9550/ For the lower range card, I would go for the ATI card, while the nv card are best for performance (66xx, 68xx and 78xx series). Whatfore do you need it ? Gaming and what kind of (much, rare, rpg, fps, tps, ...)

I do not use heatpipes, but I've read loads of reviews about them. You should make a difference in performance vs. application. A zalman heatpipe hdd won't give good results, just because hdd normaly don't need a hdd cooler (and it has insufficient cooling surface). For heatsinks, results can be very, very good, it depends a bit on the manufacturer (cheaper heatsink most times have a worse impementation -read: worse thermal paste or worse holes and pipes).Heatpipes also work best under certain angles, depende a bit which heatsink you have. The heatsink cases (like the zalman tnt or the Hush) are realy cool (in fact, they get hot after a while ), there cooling capabilities are okay, but not the best.I did underclocked and undervolted my pc, to the minimum. 100*11@1.08V . I cooled it w/o a fan (SLK947u) and the temp rose to 60°c and the pc shuted down.

The best coolers you can get are the Thermalright XP120, XP90, SI97 and SI120, you can choose the fan yourself, so you take a large (120mm) and quiet fan. I also suggest you to check out this site, it has a few heatsink roundups under the Cooling Air cat. About the thermal pad, remove the crap. Boxed cooler thermal pads are bad. The best thing you can get is some Arctic Silver or some OCZ thermal paste. Here is a good instruction how you should apply tim (thermal interface material). Most good heatsink companies ship their heatsinks with some thermal compounds, it sometimes it ships with cheap stuff, but it'll do the job just fine. For your case, make shure you have intake and outtake fans, so that i/o flow is balanced (no under or over pressure in your case). Most cases have place for an intake in the front bottom and and outtake in the back at cpu level. Hope this helped a bit.

They are situated in the I386 folder, but you can't use them as they are on the disc (even if you rename them). If quickly made a rar file with the files that are needed for defrag (I think those are all the files you need). dfrg.rar First check which files are already in the windows\system32 folder, then copy the ones you need. But how did you manage to delete it ? Did u install another defragging program instead or just removed them ?

Don't be mistaken folks, FF isn't as safe as everybody thinks. You may never forget the golden rule for exploits: "the more popular it is, the more effort they make to find exploits". And of course, a link: [M] Is the Firefox honeymoon over? More leaks found than in IE

It's sad that people misuse things so others get punished because of those ..... (insert offending word ).But, I totaly understand it and won't argue about it.Great forum btw, a little 'busy' (I'd almost forgotten where I'd put this one ), but that's allright.

This might be because windows/drivers linked a wrong (too high) refreshrate to a resolution. You might look around for a refresh rate fix for your video card drivers, so you can set the max. refresh rate per resolutions (should be 60 or 70Hz).If this is not the problem, then it probably uses a resolution your monitor doesn't support. I know you can change the max. resolution in ATI drivers, dunno if possible in NV/intel/matrox drivers.

Overclocking realy helps on my pc. I can't run the games at the settings I use now if I didn't overclocked my CPU, mem and video card.I mean, 28% OC on the CPU from stock, 7% (actualy more since I use tighter timings) for the memory, 18% for the GPU and 8% for the VMem. It realy does add up and if you have a high end computer and some good overclocking components, you can game at 1280 8/8 w/o problems.Other advantage is to save money, I bougth an XP2500+ and it runs flawlessly at 3200+ (@ stock voltage, but m/b undervolts a bit), that saved me another E80 (?).Had a litlle less luck with the vid card, I hoped it would have done 9600XT speeds, but I had a bad sample .

ok, didn't know where to post, so I dropped it here, in a no postcount part. There are 2 things I'd love to have on this forum.1. a global "Mark this forum read", so that every forum and every post on this forum will be mark as read (instead of only a sub-forum).2. An edit button. I realy hate I can't change my posts when I wrote in Engrish again or accidentaly hitted the post button .

My guess is that he uses windowsXP and he means that after a while, the pc goes to the 'switch user-log-in screen'.And I don't think he uses IE, because: "most of the times" + "resume" means that he sometimes CAN resume, wich IE doesn't support.Try disableing (password for) you screensaver, that probably why he goes to the user view.

I think it can work with AIM through Jabber, tough I'm not shure about that.I don't get it how jabber works, but it mentions something about ICQ and AIM and so on.So it is possible that it can work wih AIM buddy lists.

Everything is possible, it'll just take you some time.I realy doubt if the BIOS supports any overclocking options, you'll have to do it with software overclocking (you can try clockgen, CPUFSB, ...)Graphics card can be overclocked easily with atitool (see jipmans post). There are a few downside, first of all is that the time you can work on battery is shortend. Secundo, things might heat up a bit, you'll have to run an application to check system/cpu and vga temperature (speedfan and atitool).About shortened life span, don't worry too much about it. If it doesn't run too hot and you didn't pushed it to the edge, it will still last 5 years or something.E.g. my cpu is 3 (?) years old now, it has had voltages from 1.1 to 2.2v (2.2 because it crashed when altering voltages in 8rdavcore, so only for short time). It ran for months @ 1.8v and ran a few days at 1.95v.Same for the ram, it ran a long time at 2.9v (from 2.6V).

Maybe you can get one at an electronics shop, maybe they can order one for you (or an alternative). But don't forget, it's not because the memory is fried there's nothin else broken. So best thing is to find another old scsi card for cheap

I'm running SP1 for months and I NEVER had a sercurity issue, it even isn't always up-to-date.What most people forget is that the user makes the system (un)safe. What are you with alerts if you ignore them ? Most important thing is not to spread all your information on the internet, do not subsribe to maliscious sites/mails and use opensource/free software.I use Opera for internet and mail, mercury for IM, I'm behind a router + Sygate PF and I have avast installed and lets not forget adaware and s&d.Keeps me safe, w/o SP2(p.s. I might sound a bit aggressive, but I've just written an essay about it for school which is written contra-M$, so I'm now in an aggressive mood )

I'm looking for a way to transfer data from my mobile phone (SE K700i) to my oldie 3Com Palm III.I can get a connection between the 2 via irda, I can transfer the files, but the Palm says the file is in an unknown format and the files is then removed. So, I'm now looking for a way to keep the files on the Palm so that I can move them to my pc via Palm Desktop.Ow, and it has to be freeware

Windows Live Cd And its an MS-free project
wutske replied to rantsh's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've tried it (not for saving data tough) and it works amazingly good. You maybe can't install every program you want, but there are a lot of them available (tough not every program is easy to install on the cd). Side note, I did use Ultimate Boot CD4win which uses BartPE to create the cd w/ all the tools: ubcd4win -
