  1. You think I haven't tought about that, but I don't wont be like my dad, even now I'm completely different then my dad was when he was young, I have a totally different attitude and if I'm wrong, I'll admit it. I'd also leave them much more free about certain stuff, and I won't keep asking anoying questions like; aren't you overdoing/are you shure/be carefull, that's very sensitive, at wich I always have to reply: I know what I'm doing. But whatever, the whole story was yesterday, my brain has wiped it out again (does it automaticly w/ everything ) and I don't care anymore
  2. Semprons aren't bad, same for Celeron D (the old celerons were bad). These budget cpu's are fast enough for office use and a bit gaming and multimedia. They are better for HTPCs, because they mostly run a bit cooler then "full featured" cpu's, so they can be cooled much quieter. And you don't realy need much more than 1GHz for DivX, even a PIII could do that. I only suggest you not to downgrade your pc, would be kinda dumb, no ? .
  3. Don't shoot me for this, but I don't realy advise Norton Antivirus, I'd even say; NEVER RUN IT W/O ANOTHER VIRUSSCANNER INSTALLED. I know a lot of people who had Norton (updated ofcourse) installed and after running some free virus scanner they realized their system was full of viri , plus it's buggy and slows down your system.
  4. If they'd make an OS, it would probably some tiny OS, having all the Google features installed, plus some basic management and office programs.Imagine, Google OS, featuring Google Talk, Google Desktop Search, Google Explorer, Google Media Player
  5. Ok, didn't realy find an option .But those are the other options to turn on your computer :-password (some letters and numbers, your choise)-Hot KEY (something like ctrl-F1)-Mouse left or right-Any Key-Button only (only the button, hmm, clever explanation )-Keyboard 98 (absolutely no idea, maybe the windows button on the keyboard ?)Other options:-Wake by PME# of PCI (some PCI device can turn you pc on)-Wake op by Ring (or this is WOL or this is Wake on Modem)-Wake by alarm (what this topic is about)
  6. This had something to do with Advance Powermanagement. Check if it installed as an ACPI computer (you can see this in the device management (or what it's called in english) under 'computer'.Gonna reboot to see what BIOS settings you can change
  7. Forgotten a small detail. The socket A semprons are slimmed down thouroughbreds. The S754 are (?) winchesters (?) with half the cache and no 64bit instructions enabled.
  8. Semprons are actualy TB's AMD could sell anymore. The only difference is that they halved the amount of available cache and they upped the FSB, and because of that last one, they also gave a higher rating per MHz. A 2500+ sempron runs at 1750Mhz, so it's actualy "a lot" slower then a Barton 2500+ (less MHz and 1/4 the amount of cache). Also, These semprons do not have cache. I tought the newest semprons (S754) have 64bit instructions enabled. But if you consider upgrading your system, I'd go for a S939 CPU (2800+ or something), with a simple but good board. Ram and AGP card could probably be re-used.
  9. Oh god, I realy, realy must say, write, shout this somewhere or I'll explode .My dad is such an *******, always and always thinking he's better than us, better than everybody . Djees, always saying, "I've studied for that", goddamned, he doesn't know **** you know.Today (and yesterday) we had this discussion about glasses. It appearded to be that some idiot had swiyched my mums glasses (the +1,5 eye got +1,0 and vice versa). So, my dad said, that if you'd put a +1,5 lens in front of an +1,0 eye, yourvision would become worse . Errm, not. So we had this long discussion yesterday about that and today, my mom when to the (?) glassesmaker (?) and she adsked that. And yes, your vision would get worse, IF you had glasses before (wich in this case, wasn't). Then they guy said that vision would become better, but not perfect, so in the end, I was right. So, I told him today, and still he wouldn't admit he was wrong. Acording to what he said; we changed everything, we changed the subject, we are idiots, we won't listen, we don't know a thing, we altered the story, we altered what it all was about, ...And his reason; we have 2 eyes (in this case, eyes wich aren't correct anymore), and if you'd put the wrong glasses in front of them, the incorrectness (is this a good english word ?) becomse worse, and your brains should correct harder .In the end, he was wrong, because he changed the subject (1 eye -> 2 eyes), he won't listen (to us, he never does), he is stupid.Man, I realy hate that guy. He so annoying, he thinks he's the man , everybody at work loves him (even the ones that don't know him), oh my, please, that makes me sick. You know why he'd quit his previous job, because they wouldn't listen to him, same with the work before. And now, he's probably going the change work (again, and he's 50 ), because there's going come somebody who will be above him (so he must listen to that guy).Sick guy you know. .He'd be sorry later, when he has no job and he needs something, the bastard, he wouldn't even listen to his mother (you know, she was already old, but still very vivid, considering her fysical status). He always screwed up New Year, because he had to fight with her about stupid things, small things, that most people would just leave alone, or make a small remark about. But no, he had to call her stupid ...She was very ill during 9 months, she was in hospital for 9 long months, he only visited her when she was nearly dead .Other story, my mum had to go to hospital for something, but she couldn't drive so she needed someone to bring her and get her back. My dad refused to do that, he simply refused it because he had other things to do.If you read it till here, you should be realy bored, so I'll just quit. Here, I'm feeling much better now.
  10. What was the latest problem you have with winXP ?Mine:I wanted to play NFSU2, but the program didn't continue loading, so I wanted to kill it, ctrl-alt-del, killed speed2.exe and I tought the problem was over. NOT, my pc hardly responded to anything, so after waiting a minute for taskmanager to start, I saw that another instance of taskmanager (wich I didn't start and it wasn't the previous one) used 100% cpu.I killed it and things went better again.Had this problem a few times, damned winxp isn't 2 weeks old or so and it starts bugging me already
  11. Heat problems are a big problem nowadays, you can't realy blame alienware for that, altough for the price they ask for their high-end machines, they could use better cooling systems (like watercooling, but you'll have to maintain that).Imagine 2 6800Ultra's, a P4 D EE, 2 raptors and a 600W psu in a case that should be quiet, try keeping that cool w/o the noise from a boxed cooler.Other problems can also occur, but for $3000, support should be flawless.
  12. Win95 is old and there are only few usefull programs still working on it. Also it doesn't support too much hardware anymore.Win98SE still rules on slower machines, there are lots of programs and drivers for it, and it's fast and pretty simple.Win2k boots slow (note, I've only used the server editions), but overal speed is okay, it can be better.WinXP, no comment, not realy secure (you can make it secure tough), rather fast, but sometimes buggy.
  13. AVG Free: http://www.avg.com/cz-cs/free-antivirus-download I use avast and I'm realy happy 'bout it. It has everything to be secure, default shield (on access hdd), Internet Post (any pop, smtp, imap, nntp action is being scanned, protocol/port wise), Web shield (anything comming throug port 80 is being scanned), IM (MSN, AIM, ICQ, ...), Network shield (pretty lame thing, only detects intrusions), P2P Shield (Kazaa, Directconnect, Bittorrnet, Shareaza, ...). Realy rocks. I combine this with scanning now and then using FreeAV and Bitdefender.
  14. Did not work, to bad I can't test atm since my site and cpanel is down
  15. I've enabled hotlink protection in cpanel, but it doesn't seem to work: Test The settings: Enabled Allowed http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Allowed extensions: jpg, jpeg, gif, png, bmp Redirect to: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Allow direct requests: no So, what's going wrong ???
  16. everybody is free to add me and speak to me (ow, sometimes I don't answer while I'm showing online, that's because I'm gone and I've forgotten again to change my status ).MSN (Mercury): wutske @ hot mail . comjust remove some spaces, just too keep bots away.
  17. SCSI disks are also made for servers, they can work actively 24/7, no IDE would be able to do that w/o errors or failures. SCSI drives can also work under much more stress (no IDE drive would survive 85°c working temperature (air-co failure in small server room)), plus there are also some gimmicks wich in SATA terms is called Native Command Queuing, it can help speed up things, but hardly for the average users.Ow, and other thing, the fastest SCSI drive spins at 15.000rpm, while the fastest, SATA/IDE drive spins at 10.000rpm (WD caviar). All other IDE/SATA spin at 7200rpm, wich gives much higher latencies then 15.000rpm (ow, and 15.000rpm is noisy).Hope this helped a bit more.
  18. I do remember another computer beeping too. It was my dad's pc (PIII 733) when it was still running WinNT4 . First, I had to wait 5 minutes before I could log in (it waited for some error message), and now and then, while working, the machine wouldn't respond, if I clicked a few times, it would say beep and lock-up completely (only a reset would help). If formatting and installing winxp, the problem was gone, some it's not always the cpu that causes problems.
  19. haven't read it completely, but damn you bastard, sleeping from 1AM to 10PM, I wish I could sleep that well lately. I go to bed at 23:30 and maybe I'll sleep when it's 1:00. And with some luck, I only wake up once at night and wake up between 8:30 and 10:00 and stille feel sleepy, feeling like I'd fall asleep again, but I don't .Btw, maybe try watching less tv or playing less games, freak . Even I never dreamt such thing (tough it would be fun, much better then my boring dreams)
  20. @unimatrix: do you know that nowadays, most AMD motherboards have an NForce chipset ? And indeed, there have been lots of problems with VIA chipset, why do you think there were always 2 versions of a chipset, the normal one and the "A" (KT133 vs kT133A. And normaly, an old AMD should not frie when you use a descent installed boxed heatsink. If you did not use the boxed heatsink, you have chosen the wrong one (not that I accuse you or someone else, but boxed coolers are tested well enough, even in bad conditions they should cope).
  21. damn, quote not working . Whathever the previous post was worth in point, don't add it, nor this post, nor the post before my previous post. Damn, no I feel like I'm a spammer . Never mind, I should learn to shout up
  22. Why can't I find this f***** edit button or why isn't there an edit button on this forum . Now it looks like I'm spamming (NOT, these quotes are too good to be left on bash) <calin> we had a guy at school that wore black lipstick.. and was all gothy.. and then one day we caught him buying an assvibrator <ecoli> ew.<ecoli> wait, you "caught" him?<ecoli> like, you were behind him in line at the assvibrator store?<Aero> he doesnt answer*** Quits: calin (No route to host)
  23. I use shareazaa, all in one: Gnutella, Gnutella2, Edonkey and bittorrent. But share is a pain in the *** overhere because I'm behind a NAT router .I quit using kazaalite, because it even works worse behind a router. And no, I don't have access to the router and no I can't ask my dad to change that.
  24. This is mine .All running Windows XP, except Linux machines and back-up (=win98)
