thanks yordan... yip, it was a high definition audio on the video card, i reinstalled the latest nVidia X driver and it fixed the issue... weird though it didn't work the first time

so i installed my old video card on another PC which runs a wide screen lcd... i'm looking for a way to ensure my old games like warcraft III would play on it's native resolution... i can't seem to figure-out how... on my laptop i usually just set the aspect ratio to fixed and it runs old games on boxed resolution with black bands covering the sides of the screen spaceanyone know how to set this on nVidias latest driver-utility

it should work with the card... it could be something setting i need to alter or something on the card... otherwise i'd have to reinstall but yea i really don't wanna do that hehe

Abiword is a great tool but comes with its limitations... i've never really used the application that much but I would prefer LibreOffice Writer for more document work

as yordan mention - portable apps (on portable drives/usbs) are real handy when visiting friends (non-techie) to hangout and watch movies... i have a lot of friends who doesn't know much about computers and file type supports and things like that...

are you after a program that runs in the shadow? hidden from user knowledge other than yourself (who of course installed the app?)

yes i do notice that too... i think its more to do with apt-get being in control of downloading/installing updates and packages it gets locked
