  1. the i7 would be way better in performance but cost a hell lot more... when looking at the Bull Dozer AMD cpu like the FX-8120, its a great buy and even setting it up with a motherboard would be cheaper than an intel i5 + mainboard but ofcourse that is if you already have an 800+ watt PSU because once you start overclocking it, its power consumption skyrockets. Also note that the BD cpu is already sitting on a 125W TDP stock... If i was to built a PC that i would play games on, i would go for an intel setup... for a light tasking PC (web surfing and word processing) i would go with a cheaper AMD setup
  2. looking at those 2 models... that FX-8120 stands no chance at all against the i5 unless overclocked... you also have to consider that the i5 runs on about half the power consumption of the FX... i like AMD products and cpus, at the moment i'd prefer an intel CPU
  3. yes it looks like U.S put the pressure on the NZ government... and now the NZ Government is very likely to be sued by Dotcom and Megaupload, the NZ prime minister apologized to Dotcom because he was under secret monitoring illegally by the local secret police... really dumb and embarrassing
  4. there's quite a big gap in performance difference in the two architectures... although AMD is competing with price, in my view performance per price intel still does better... especially in the lower to mid-range desktop cpus
  5. thanks for the share... there's quite a lot of them services out there but some of them are way more popular then others...
  6. i have been an AMD fan years back... when they released their initial AMD64 cpus that whooped much higher clocked Intel Pentium 4s, now i'm using intel because they run cooler and uses less power but also performs much better than AMDs...
  7. wow thats some old hardware you got there... gotta love linux and its capability of running on old pieces
  8. Found the problem... it's my video card took it out and ran Mint of onboard intel graphics and it runs perfectly fine...it's most probably a driver issue... hopefully a new driver (Catalyst) will be out soon so i can test it on my card
  9. I'm from New Zealand and it's always on the news about Dotcom's case... today the New Zealand Prime Minister apologized to Kim Dotcom, the local authorities were unlawfully monitoring/spying on him Personally i think it was the pressure from the U.S really... because they are trying to extradite Kim Dotcom...
  10. and I say I never believe any other intelligence is out there until I see one
  11. they are real crazy fans I would add to stay overnight outside a store entrance just to be among the first getting a phone...
  12. thanks yordan, i had a look at those but they don't fix my issue... i've posted a thread on the LinuxMint forum so hopefully someone might come up with a solution...
  13. Unable to start the settings manager 'mate-settings-daemon'.Without the MATE settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with DBus, or a non-MATE (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the MATE settings manager. so i've been getting these results lately when right clicking on desktop to change background or trying to alter themes or customizing mate anyone experience this before
  14. so after upgrading graphics card from an nVidia to ATI, LinuxMint puts an annoying watermark at bottom right corner of my screen (unsupported hardware) although i can get access to the installed ATI Catalyst anyone experience this before?cheers
  15. aah thanks yordan... the drive is about 3 years old now
  16. thanks yordan, i think i need to re-organize where my files are... because at the moment I have images/videos spanned throught the drives
  17. I am running Windows 7 Professional on a single 640GB 7200rpm Hard drive. It is partitioned into 4x~100GB, 1x60GB and two 40GBall the 100GB, and 1x40GB are in NTFS, the rest 60GB+40GB are in ext4Now if I repartition the 100GB partitions into say 50GB would there be any increase in read/write performances?
  18. I've finally decided it is time to move to Windows 7... so i created a bootable USB win7 media, fortunately i always set my system drive separate from my data partitions... so it was just a matter of installing Win 7 over the XP system partitioni also had to move some folders around my other partitions because i needed to free up a second partition to merge with the XP partition for Win 7now everyting is running fine but i'm having some problems with datas on the partitions - its to do with the permissions... somehow the folders are all read only...is there a way of setting all these to remove the read only permission mode.. when i right click on a folder properties and remove the read only it doesn't work
  19. there's no hard evidence of alien existence... i think organic life form probably do exist on some other planet out there but it would probably be quite different from ours...
  20. iPhone 5 will still be a hit even though Android phones have grown in popularity http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ saw some of the videos from the Apple iPhone sales and the amount of people queuing at outlet stores is just crazy... for a phone people would stay overnight at shop entry... what has the world turned into! Never have i heard of a Samsung or Android device get this much attention... i think it's sad to see people be attracted to a device that much...I wonder what would they say if you ask these people to choose between the iPhone 5 or their partner/children hehe
  21. like every inventions and innovations, nobody really came up with an idea on their own... ideas are derivatives (directly/indirectly) of previous ones... todays artists are continuing the from arts created yesterday
  22. i think the simplest test code would be paste the following codes onto notepad and save it as file_name.htm then run it on your favorite browser <html> hello</html> but ofcourse you would need more then just a hello... and depending on what you want to display, it would probably be best to have a head, body sections as mentioned on first few posts... i started learning html few years back just using notepad and IE and using w3schools as my guide
