  1. I have to agree with all of the posts on this page to some extent. As long as you use the irc system you own or work on sensibly, without downloading plugins or additions which you don't know, then there should be know real reason why you shouldn't have your irc server logged into. It's best to not even half op people who ask for the extra power. Some people may be power mad and just want to cause havoc of the server, especially if they hate it or have a competing chat service. You may also want to use the +m moderation mode if someone is deliberately chatting, taking over your chat room by the means of spam intending to upset your users.Basically, be careful what you do and there's no reason why your room won't be successful!
  2. It's a shame that you've got to completely re-write the code for the new invision version although if it fixes a blatant vulnerability, then in the long run it will be worth doing so.On the other side of things, however, it's nice to hear that you've managed to code a way to have the editing feature active without completely messing up the credit system. This will certainly save the hassle of having to use the report button and explaining to a staff member what's wrong with the post (why you would like it edited!).Nice post by the way at the start, it's very informative and looks like you've been incredibly busy working on all your sites (not just Xisto!). I can imagine how much hard work it is to maintain all your sites, but also rewrite the credit system so that it can be compatible with the new system.Anyway, You're doing fantasically well with the whole of the Xisto network and its sister sites. Keep up the good work!
  3. This is a very nice tutorial for beginners who use computers / people who want to know how to quickly and easily get rid of the buttons/links they don't want to show in the start menu. There have been times, in the past, when my brain's had some kind of clearance and I've forgotten how to do these simple things like this (Without browsing around the computer whilst refreshing my mind!).Anyway, thanks for the help with buttons in the start menu, certainly speeds up the process of finding the correct menu for removing the irrelevant items.Keep the tutorials coming in, they're great!!
  4. Hehe, I remember creating icons a few years ago, when i was at school and had computing. We all got together and had competitions like who could create the best icon for desktop.I believe we saved into the 'ico' format in Paint, by typing "filename.ico" with the quotes. However, this was not on a windows xp computer (it was actually on windows 95 or something like that) although can't see why it won't work! With a bit of luck, this will be beneficial to those wishing to use Microsoft Paint to create icons for your favourite applications!Oh, and finally,I agree with a couple of previous posts in this thread. If you want to create a professional looking icon with features like transparancy, then Paint is really not the correct program to do. Something like paint shop pro or photoshop would be the program you'd like to use.Hope this post helps!
  5. In my opinion, I believe that Disney and Pixar are two of the most famous entertainment providers which have produced/created many good films throughout the past decade or so.Pixar's films include the films like Monsters Inc, whereas Disney have films like the 102 Dalmations. This migration/merge together would be a good move in my opinion. They will be able to share techniques/help one another out to create the most exciting film available for the viewers to watch!I look forward to seeing the brand new creations, if this merge is a final (not going to be changed). :-)
  6. Hehe, thanks for this nice tutorial on how to create a proper command line for accessing internet explorer. However, I prefer using a shortcut. I find it easier, plus you don't have to mess around using the 'run' dialog.(I type the address in the address bar!).Thanks for sharing nevertheless. It's always nice to know the other ways on how to run the same program
  7. It's very nice to see Microsoft feel the need to compete with Google, however, I do not feel they will manage to succeed. The google maps are extremely good quality and consist of an extremely large database, full of towns, cities and countries. Sometimes it can even zoom in as far as to see street names and road names. Shame not all countries are supported.I feel that Microsoft have the resources and everything else to allow them to overtake Google. As mentioned a few posts ago, this feature could be integrated into the internet explorer internet browser. Google, however, relies on extra downloads for it to work (most of the time). For example, another one of Google's programs (Google Earth) relies on users downloading an extra executable file for the program to work.I don't know whether they could maybe produce a web-based version, or maybe they already are doing. All I can say is... I wish Microsoft all the luck they could possibly have in competing with Google, although I will use Google maps whenever I have the need to, especially once they support more countries. This is my opinion on Google's Map and Earth applications
  8. Oh, don't forget if the php chat room uses a mysql database (maybe for storing recent messages?) you may also need to delete the table by using phpmyadmin. There's a high chance it doesn't use mysql though!
  9. Yep, it really is a shame how people have to abuse and impersonate other people just because they want to wind someone up, spread an infected file or purely because they're jealous of someone. I've received and know other people who have received a number of similar e-mails like these. Another popular address to send from is @microsoft.com. People tend to use this domain as they believe their mail will be received and viewed.Best thing to do, is to not read any email that doesn't look trusting. After all, e-mail is not the only way to communicate with one another. It is also possible to communicate via the post or by telephone even. This is my opinion on these folks who like to cause trouble and inconvenience other users.
  10. This is a new one to me. I've never heard of humans having tails! Or didn't, til I came to this thread. They look bizzare though. In my opinion, it just doesn't look right for humans to have tails. It's ok for animals to have tails as that's a natural thing, but human wise, it looks strange. It's still interesting though and with the additional thought that there's still biological information we've yet to find out.The images were shocking, almost like frightful to look at a bit like spiders. I'm sure we'll eventually find out how these are created or what they're used for. Thanks for sharing the information, I'll have to regularly check back to this thread to see what the other user's views on this tail thread are.
  11. You can also search for temporary files using the Microsoft windows search function, embedded in the Windows system.First of all, you have to load up the find button by clicking on the start button and then click on search.Once the search program loads up, you can click all files and folders. A new box will be shown, requesting for all or part of the filename of the file which you are searching for. In here, you can type *.tmp (with the asterisk). After this, you can click on the search button. Any file found here can be safely deleted, unless an error is shown saying it's read only. It's best to click no in this case, as you don't know whether a running program/application is dependent upon this temporary file.Hope this helps
  12. I used to play the Sims (the original one) although stopped when I had my exams, never got back into it since. However, my sister plays it a lot and is trying to get me back into it. I don't think I'll play it again though, at least not for the timebeing. Can you play the Sims games on the internet nowadays? I can't remember seeing this as a feature on the original, but apparently you can, at least on the second.Anyway, I rate the game, the old one (no doubt the same for this one), 7 out of 10, it's a nice quality game and quite realistic. Great for young children!
  13. Black holes have always been a tough kind of topic, of which I haven't ever understood or known the answer to. They're very interesting in my opinion, but I don't much fancy the Earth rolling over a hole, and being sucked in forever, without knowing what would happen to human life. It would be great to find out more from a scientist's perspective. Thanks for sharing that with us, I missed that television program though unfortunately, will look out for a repeat. IF anyone else knows any good things regarding this topic, feel free to share, I love reading and viewing space info!
  14. I have a feeling that if you delete just the forum files (the directory) the posts, threads etc are still online from your mysql database. If you're going in this direction (deleting), you will most likely need to manually delete the database the forums are on (This will delete all the posts and the threads etc). You can do this by Cpanel itself, or drop the table in phpmyadminHope this helps
  15. Wow, haven't heard of this and didn't even know it existed. I browsed to this thread, because I accidentally misread the thread title for php. Ah well, it doesn't matter. It's always interesting to find out things like this from foreign countries. Thanks for sharing :-)
  16. wow, thanks for the list. Was interested in this.I knew that there were only 10 months in the Roman times and knew that each month originated from a Roman god or goddess of some kind, although I wasn't sure on how each month was given it's name (which God/Goddess was responsible) (I only knew about 2 or 3 of them). It's always nice to research topics like these. Thanks for sharing
  17. I personally use internet explorer as my default internet browser. I love the speed at which it loads up and like the way it usually loads up any website consisting of languages such as activex, java, shockwave etc which are very handy languages for simple games to pass the time away when you're bored!I have got mozilla firefox installed as a backup, should internet explorer fail, or should major hitches on the internet explorer code be found. I can simply choose which browser to use when. Mozilla is a lot slower on my machine though.Lots of folks seem to use firefox! Keep the comments coming in, they're interesting
  18. Wow, a nice little game.I know how to type and I'm a rather fast typer, but when it comes to typing the full alphabet, it took me a while!First time I got 4.9 something then the second and final time I played I got 4.2 seconds or something like that, which is pretty good. With all games, it only takes a while before you learn all the cheats of the game, warranting a high position in the table. I assume that the high ranks of the game are people who play over and over again who learn where the keys are.Is a nice game anyhow!
  19. Hey, this is a nice little page on security tips for keeping pc's secure. What you've said is 100% correct, people just don't realise how they're opening vulnerabilites to their machines while they're installing software which allegedly gets rid of malware (which it doesn't actually do, etc).A firewall will definitely help. Every computer user with access to the interent should use a firewall, as this is another step towards stopping people connecting to your computer without your permission - This doesn't help in all cases tho, if you download a file whilst browsing the web etc. (The file could disable the firewall.)Once again, thanks for the little tutorial, i'm sure the other users will find this interesting aswell Keep up the good work!
  20. the gahooyoogle website looks cool. There are many sites which search multiple search engines, such as dogpile etc and the site mentioned below. Will stick to the google.com website though, for simplicity
  21. Wow. This is rather interesting news. I didn't know about google wanting to compete with microsoft til I read this thread about a minute ago.I wish them a great deal of luck if they're to go through with this. It will certainly involve a great deal of work to try to beat Microsoft, but with a well known company like google, is definitely possible.I guess i'll be able to look forward to using google-style, google-coded applications in the near future which will hopefully over-take Microsoft! My opinion is that google shouldn't find it too hard to compete with microsoft, although getting started will be a challenge.
  22. Hmmmm, I thought this rumour would come out eventually or that someone would post incorrect information on the site. It's just a shame that people had to abuse the site. It's a wonderful site and in my opinion, it should stay set up in the way that users *can* edit the information. Currently, it is updated almost straight away, because as soon as news items or other events happen, users can edit as soon as they get internet access, meaning it's most accurate.I've used wikipedia a lot through my school days helping out with research tasks and/or homework queries. I hope it doesn't disable user's permission to post or edit the pages. This is just my opinion on this matter.
  23. Wow. This invision board version looks cool, although I don't use ipb anymore. I'd had enough of the limited functionality compared to other forum companies, such as proboards in the respect that you have to pay unless you have a free trial of no more than 20 users or something like that.Anyhow, it looks like they've improved. I probably still won't buy it at the moment though as I don't really have a need at the moment! Thanks for sharing though
  24. I don't use html on it's own nowadays as I know php and there are a lot more features included in php as opposed to the default, basic html language. I do know, however, of a very good html previewer if you wanted to use the same kind of style of web-producing but wanted to view some kind of preview before you copied/pasted to notepad and then saved to your local computer ready to upload. This html editor the w3schools website. It's a website specially written to encourage / help out those users who are wishing to learn knew website or other programming languages so the html editor is quite professional. A direct link to this site is: http://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?fie=tryhtml_basic. I hope this helps. This was one of the editors i found when I was at school a few years ago. (No web-editing programs were installed then).
  25. This is a very good image, i feel. The only main comments I would give would be that I don't really like the spaces after 'I' and don't know what they're for.Over all, I would have to rate this 7 out of 10. It's good quality, but looks pretty boring in my opinion.Sorry for my criticism, keep up the good work though! Some people may love this
