I didnt know where to post this since we don't have a TV forum. Well here's my question - I've been trying to remember the name of a documentary series that aired on national geographic channel a long time back. It was about video games and started from the history of gaming and came to the present. Does anyone remember the name of that series???

well it's definitely not one of the best movies in terms of story; all people wanna see are the new and improved graphics that's all - it happened with Titanic and it's happened with this one as well. When Titanic came out, some of my friends were on the verge of walking out halfway through it, just because they thought the routine love story was boring - then when they began to see the sinking they were stuck to their seats, because such visual effects were pretty new in those days. So the more eye-candy a movie has, the more chances of it becoming a success, irrespective of its plot

Avatar is now officially the highest grossing movie in the history of cinemam and James Cameron has been dubbed 'King of the world' all over again! Well if it were not for the prices of 3D, I'm sure it would have taken much longer to reach that mark. But anyhow now it is the king and no one will ever forget it - long hail avatar!

India Doesn't Need A 29th State - Telangana, Does It?
H.O.D replied to H.O.D's topic in General Discussion
Unity in diversity is long gone - these days all people seem to be thinking about is regionalism. And I'm not talking about just the politicians - even the common people tend to discriminate other people based on their language, region and religion. We belong to one country in name only. People of different states hardly see each other as citizens of the same country, rather they treat each other as if they belong to separate countries I only wish this sad situation passes us soon. The Telangana situation is clearly going to go on for a while. In the meanwhile the situation in Mumbai seems grim too, and it all doesn't make any sense. The educated people, unfortunately, are too scared to voice their opinion, and the illiterate who are also ignorant, are being taken for a ride by the power-hungry politicians -
This is surely going to be a disaster for apple - I feel they should have done more research into the market and then added/removed a few features to appeal to the public. This product is definitely going to impress only the apple fans and not the others. They could get a basic netbook for that price (or maybe less than that) and get a lot more features. So I think this time, apple has made a very hasty decision

All of you Indians on this forum might be aware that there is an agitation going on in the state of Andhra Pradesh demanding a separate state called Telangana. It has been in the news recently all over the country so I think you might have heard of it. This is not a recent development - in fact this agitation has been going on ever since AP was formed by the merging of the two states Hyderabad and Andhra way back in 1956. Right now there are two agitations going on in AP - one demanding separate Telangana and another demanding a unified AP. I'm a true Telanganiite, but I am in favour of a unified AP. I agree that a lot of injustice has been done to the region, but breaking up is not the answer. If only this 50-year old agitation had been demanding justice to the region instead of statehood it would have been beneficial to the whole state. Throughout these 50 years the agitation seems to be taking place only to satisfy the needs of some greedy political leaders. First it was Chenna Reddy who "betrayed" the agitation in 1969 and now it is KCR who is trying to find his lost glory after being beaten bitterly in the recent elections. I ask just one question - apart from spearheading the agitation, what have these leaders done for the region till now? They haven't spent anything to develop the region. All they crave for is power, which they hope to get by playing with people's emotions. The agitation started in the first place because the Gentleman's agreement which was made at the time of the merger was not fulfilled. That is true - the Telangana region has been unnecessarily and unfairly put back in terms of development. But what the common people fail to observe is that if the state becomes a reality, development will take a step backward and not forward. They are failing to see that the people leading the campaign are those who have a wonderful track-record for breaking their promises. Greed of power and money is driving is agitation and not the aim of development. And due to this the common people, mainly students and young employees are getting affected, because their studies/jobs are in danger now. Many IT companies and other firms are pulling out of Hyderabad and AP altogether, uncertain of the future situation. Now it seems too late to talk some sense into these "leaders" - they have become too blind with greed and have brought this "agitation" too far. I only hope that the central government analyses the situation properly and establishes the fact that development is possible only with a unified state, and if some proper promise is made to ensure that Telangana is developed that would be a boon for this region. But it the government gives in to the pressure, it will be the saddest day in the history of the Telugu people. Without realising they have brought this death-hammer upon themselves

well a lot can be said about this game and the trilogy on the whole I'm very excited that a fourth game is coming up based on the sands of time called the lost sands or something like that. I can't wait to play that game as all three games in the trilogy were very thrilling and the gameplay was simply superb. The only disappointing point is that the new game won't be available on the PS2 and will only be available for PS3. I can't afford to to buy the PS3 and the PC version wont work on my ancient computer!!! there has to be some alternative and I will surely find it to play that game as its worth it.

Open source hasn't destroyed the software industry - piracy has beat it at that game. Open source is simply a boon for those people who cannot afford to buy the basic software that they need for their daily computing needs. Of course it is a point that the programmers/coders who work very hard to develop the software need to be paid, but when they have the "open-source" mentality, it's nothing wrong - they are kind enough to let people use their services without paying anything. By doing this they are not threatening the paid industry in any way because there will always be more people seeking money in the world than those who would do service for free! That's the bare truth so we don't have any great danger from open source for now. If anything, it encourages people to try out new things on their machines and experiment with different software, thus making them learn more. Even if they're not wanting to learn anything, open source software can save them a lot of money and that is definitely worth it.

This picture created quite a stir when it first came out, didn't it? If I remember the story shown on TV correctly, it was taken by a disgruntled scientist/photographer who wanted to get some kind of revenge.I can't recollect the exact story but it was something like that, and from there the story started getting famous and people got scared for no reason at all!

This sure is some funny yet disturbing news. As mentioned above, the music industry won't achieve anything by picking up single people like this. It needs to do something big to stop the piracy. And as Soviet Rathe rightly, said, almost everyone who uses the internet has knowingly/unknowingly downloaded something illegal. It just depends on whether you stop your activities once you know that it is illegal. People keep talking about how unfair the music industry is on pricing/DRM, etc, but they're not helping the cause by encouraging illegal downloads. They're simply destroying the smallest chance that the music industry would reduce prices if they felt that people would buy music if they removed restrictions and reduced prices. Now that no one is caring this situation will only continue to be in the same way it is and we'll see more articles like this in the coming days.as for the student, I'm really surprised how he was found in the first place. People who know very little about the internet and IP addresses, etc get away easily by illegal downloading, then how did this fellow land up in such a mess? It is indeed a little suspicious as anwiii mentioned. Maybe it's all just a huge drama to warn people about what would happen if they were caught?

well my system is a bit ancient and I think that's one of the main reasons I'm experiencing this problem. some of my friends use ubuntu too and they have never faced this problem till now, and they all have higher speed systems.so im thinking this is only the main reason for this slowness. maybe an upgrade will solve the problem once and for all. but it's just a little too costly to upgrade RAM isn't it?

Wasn't it proved that the famous photo of the "Lochness" was a fake? I saw it on TV once - how it was brilliantly made to appear as real! I dont know whether that "proof" is real or not, but the monster is definitely a fake

I don't have any extensions for firefox right now - just 12 bookmarks on the toolbar. And yes only the first-time load takes a lot of time. After that if there is a need to restart the browser it occurs instantly. So I hope there's no system problem, and it's just a problem with the browser. I just need to figure out what that problem is that's all. I tried to install Opera also but it was taking much more time than firefox or chrome i don't know why that happened so for now I think I will stick to these two browsers only. Just need to find out why firefox needs such a long time to open, even if i have those many bookmarks. does anyone know if the problem will be solved if I move the bookmarks from the toolbar into the menu?
-
I've been using firefox on Ubuntu for a while now and my biggest problem with it is that it takes a lot of time to start, especially when I use a lot of bookmarks in the bookmark toolbar. There were times when it took almost 20 seconds to start! After starting of course, there have been very less or no problems, but this made me start searching for a better browser for ubuntu. Then I found out that chrome was available for Linux! I wasn't expecting that and anyway downloaded chrome. It gave much better starting times but there were some features that made me miss Firefox. So this made me continue my search.....can anyone recommend the for using in Ubuntu?

Wow a lot of people have asked this question before but I'm not sure not all of them have found satisfactory answers yet. But I think most of them will agree on the fact that making money online as a primary job is difficult. Some people have mastered this art but even if they have shared their secrets with others, implementing them is tricky and will take a lot of time. As for part-time jobs, there are many available but most of them are again scams or else they will take a long time, first to reach the minimum limit and then some more to payout. So it takes a lot of patience and time for all this to happen. mahesh2k has given a decent list of some of the good ways to earn some "pocket" money off the internet, but again in all these cases you have to have a lot of patience to get it done right and reach the payout limit. Just don't give up soon and stick to whatever job you choose, and it will ultimately give you what you're looking for!

This movie had great animation and all, but I didn't like the story very much, especially the point that the hero turns against his own kind. That is not a very good thing to preach....also, why should we bother about a battle on another planet?! A battle that the human race ends up losing - why should we applaud that!!! But anyway, this movie should definitely be watched for its awesome animation effects

well there's nothing wrong in having similar names, is there? We share our real-world names with many others (similarly named people) so sharing names on the internet is nothing big....of course if the person is wantedly choosing a similar name for selfish reasons then that is not a good thing because he should have his own unique personality and should not live off others'. Anyway in this case I don't think this new Namelesss has such a motive. @Nameless_ : you weren't able to get the username "Nameless" because someone else had registered it before you - this shows that quite a few people seem to like that name - so this new nameless might have been using that name on other places in the internet so tried to get the same thing here, and when he failed to get "Nameless", he may have tried for a variant, just like you chose to take the underscore And on another note, this new user is not active it seems. So there's very little for you to worry about!

2010 Happy New Year Trap17! [resolved]
H.O.D replied to BuffaloHelp's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
Wow that sure is a cool poem by our admin. Happy New Year to everyone! Has anyone noticed that New Year Resolutions have been a little out-of-fashion lately? I guess most people are tired of making and breaking their resolutions!! Anyway I love the idea of making small resolutions so I resolve to be more active here at Xisto. Wow that's a hard one to keep but I'll try my best. Have a wonderful year all! -
welcome to Xisto forums - you have already completed 30 posts - that's a good sign that you're an active member. So continue your good work and you will soon have enough to start your blog very fast. I love it here although I don't visit quite often, but if you're an active member you can spend a lot of good time on these forums. It's very entertaining

I was just $0.50 short of paying my invoice when the update stopped. That can really be a bit irritating! But I'm glad the admins have responded so soon - especially OpaQue - who made sure that the problem was taken care of soon THANKS!!

I think the real "pirates", i.e. the people who put the content up on the net, won't be affected very seriously. It is the downloader who will be at a loss to search for good locations to download his content from. The uploaders will be welcomed everywhere because people are hungry for more content. But the downloaders may not be welcome in private sites and some other places - it is them that this decision affects the most - mininova was a great tracking site and people used to get whatever they wanted from it. It was so infamous that it appeared in every article about online piracy. That's why its closure is making so much news.

Thanks for sharing the site with us Ash-Bash. Since it is available only for people from three countries it may not be very effective but I think there will be a few interested people on our forum. However I think the process is a bit shady - if I understand the process correctly, it gives you swagbucks only a particular time and what you search at that time will determine how much you get. So its like a trial and error game - you have to search at the right time in order to earn, otherwise all you're left with is a very bad search engine! The concept is good but on a large scale its not very practical and that' why I think they restricted it to only three countries. Ok so if you're earning well from it, keep it up

Thanks for the response shadowx - I'm not using a router and if I'm not wrong I don't even use the network card - I have an external modem for broadband and the cell phone acts as a modem for the second connection. So in theory both have different IPs right? I checked online and saw that both indeed showed different IPs but I'm only concerned about if there is a way to detect that the same computer is being used. Oh well I'm not using it for anything dangerous and there is no loss even if it is detected. Thanks for the reply once again
