lol i think i heard about pranks like those before - you're right that's old! i think in the morning just after you wake up and the mind refuses to wake up, that is the best time to read about pranks like these, because then you will be genuinely surprised, and that is only the fun behind all these pranks - being surprised

im not a very big fan of ipb 3 but it is the newer version and does look a lot better than the present version. as for the code, i think it is possible to test out the mycents code. afterall, IPB gives a few hours of free testing of all the features of the latest version. so we could see whether or not the myCENTs code will work out in the newer version or not and a few other features could also be tested out. just an idea though. from what i've heard, ipb3 looks good but there are a lot of annoying bugs in it altho im not sure how far this is true.

it seems you have been busy a lot Ash. but it appears that you are planning to blog with a major intent to make money off it. im sure you know this already, but most blogs fail because their owners concentrate more on getting traffic and earning ad revenue than on the content in the blog. the first two things will come in automatically if the content is fresh and good - that's what everyone's been telling me about blogging it looks like you are really smart and know what you are doing, but just concentrate more on the content and im sure you will be quite okay with this blog of yours. all the best!

to be honest i never knew about google's previous april fools jokes thats maybe because i was always away from the net on april 1. but this year i was really surprised to learn that google was changing its name when i read that i was still sleepy to realize that its april1, so i fell for it and became all surprised and stunned then when i found out it was all a prank i was surprised and later came to know about all the old pranks as well. looks like i missed a lot of fun over the years. at least now i will keep my eyes open for more surprises from google!

Hey man sorry to read about your yahoo account.losing private emails, especially those collected over a long period of time, must be really tough for you. i'm really stunned that a hacker could get in and do all this stuff and the culprit was just the password. i knew that hackers had methods through which they try to get into other people's accounts especially those who use weak passwords, but i never saw anybody getting hacked like this. as im sure many of the people who read this story did, i changed my yahoo password to a much stronger one immediately. once again really sorry for your loss and i hope such a thing never happens to you again

i too didn't like this movie compared to the older ones, but the modern feel of it was a bit exciting. i had to see the movie twice to understand what's going on, but on the whole i think it was not a waste of time entirely. but still i feel the best thrill of holmes can be felt only through the books and not the movies. in books it's exciting to read about what is happening and the little details make it fun. it's hard to show these things in movies and people who have trouble following the accent (like me ) will not enjoy the clever dialogues thoroughly. this was a good effort and the acting was also not bad, but it will never ever beat the books or at least the old movies.

it's an open secret that politics is a murky business and Indian politics seem a bit too murkier. And it's indeed a huge business, with over 2 million crores of rupees floating around. who would want to talk about that in public! And by forums do you mean over here in t17 or in the public forum in front of the whole nation? In the first case it won't do much good because talking about it here isn't of much use - talking about it in front of the whole nation means having lot of courage, which our leaders do not have anyway. so this topic can only be discussed at length in our forum, but it won't have much impact on the nation

Apple has started selling the iPad in stores across the US. As it has been for all new Apple products, this one had a heavy opening too, with the media publicising the event heavily. But I'm not sure how the general public will like this new gadget. If I'm not wrong, there hasn't been a lot of buzz around this device. There is some excitement, but it doesn't look to be a very promising gadget and although it looks appealing and has a lot of useful features, a netbook could manage to do almost everything that the pad does, at a lower price. I for one, wouldn't buy this in a hurry. What about the rest of you - do you think this is going to be as exciting as the iPhone??

most new sites don't need a lot of bandwidth in their first year so this is a good plan to check out how the response to the site will be so the owner can then plan the next move to make the site more popular. I am so excited about this new plan and am almost ready with my new site to test it out. if anyone has already taken the plan please post a review here for all of us to read i know it will be good tho im sure of it!

Wow opaque you sure are doing some good thinking and introducing many interesting features for the members! This is yet another good plan/package and I think many members will be enthusiastic to take it up. As you mentioned, new members who don't like to post often can make some quick posting, get $10 and get their hosting and forget about posting, unless they are paying for their domain through myCENTs as well. Even if that happens, I think they can do enough posting to get at least $1 per month? That wouldn't be such a strain and they can keep their domain and hosting account alive for a long time.thanks again opaque for this amazing plan. i think i will think of using it ASAP with my new domain.

Want To Chat With A Stranger? Try Omegle.com
H.O.D replied to The Simpleton's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ah I finally found this thread - I knew I had seen it somewhere before so I decided to search before starting a new one. Anyway I just wanted to add an interesting point about this site - they have recently started video chat services. so any crazy fellow who wants to show his/her face to a complete stranger can now simply plug in their webcam and start video chatting on omegle without any sign up. The concept is still weird-chatting with a stranger whom you will never meet after getting disconnected-but this new feature may improve the experience, because you can at least see that the other person isn't lying about him/herself. But the funny thing is that the rate at which disconnections take place is really fast in here so you may not even get a chance to say 'hi'! so try out this new feature and see what you get - i had a lot of laughs of my own -
I don't know whether karaoke is the correct word i have to use here. my intention is to edit mp3 files such that only the background music remains and all the lyrics are erased/silenced. is there any software available to do this? it's no problem even if it is a 30-day demo or something i just need it for a week and i need it to do the job fully. so any help please?

This happens all the time in my college as well. People mix up all the languages they know, either unknowingly or just in an attempt to show-off that they those languages well! Here mostly people mix up Telugu, Hindi and English while speaking and while chatting and on social networks as well. This is a common thing and I don't think its harmful as long as we remember to use the languages one at a time when needed. If it becomes a habit to mix all the languages at all times then it may lead to funny situations and problems sometime or the other. So as long as it's under control, I think this is fine.

I'm eagerly waiting for the day when we have a funeral for IE itself and not just a version of it. I remember the first and last thing I did with IE6 was to download another browser and then deleted it for good! That's how much I loathe IE not just 6 but every version right from the beginning. I still don't know why people are lazy not to download another browser when they have the chance to. Their safety isn't as importance as their daily nap I think  If only they woke up once and switched to another browser ASAP then the day when we have a funeral for IE itself wont be very far away.

it looks like most of the people who have responded so far are against the idea. I think the biggest loss will be for SEO. If the name is changed then it will be much harder for visitors to come in and that will affect our ad revenue and ultimately it affects all of us! Hmm it has such a deep link. So i think it is best if we leave the name as it is for now. Or is there some way where we could rename the forum but still ensure that all the old links are redirected to the new ones? If that could happen then the visitors will still find their way in and we get to use a brand new name!there isn't much to complain about the name Xisto. It is strange but also curious. There may be some people who will stay away from such names but most other people will come in out of curiosity and that works to our advantage. so i suggest please let us keep the old name itself.

well the limitations aren't good at all. I have a lot of videos to convert, around 150 or more. I can't wait 50 days to get them all I'm not very attracted to online conversion as I have limited bandwidth and can't wait for that much time to get the videos also. I was reading a computer magazine and found a converter myself - Any Video Converter. It is freeware and doesn't have any limitations and has preset profiles for common conversions, which includes avi  The only bad thing about this is that for some flv videos it is losing sync after conversion. I think this is happening only for flv videos of one particular codec flv1 or something like that. For other flv videos it is converting really well.
-
I agree with mahesh. The name sounds desi and wouldn't appeal to many members around the world. I know some people here aren't very attracted to the name Xisto, but I wouldn't recommend changing it now because it's become very popular and changing it now could lose us a lot of new members. Just my opinion tho
-
I've used a lot of video converters before and have always had some issues with them regarding codecs or sync or something else. I mostly download flv videos from youtube and sometimes in mp4 format if the videos are really good. I want to convert all of them into avi format to play on a dvd player. Now the problem is that I don't know much about codecs and easily get confused with them. And I don't know of a good converter which will do all of this with the minimum amount of fuss. So can someone please suggest me a good converter which will do the job? I want flvs and mp4s to be converted into avi, and a single converter for both would be good. So help.....please?

Openshot Video Editor An apparently promising video editor for Linux
H.O.D replied to truefusion's topic in Software
I never heard of this one before but I certainly have been looking for a good video editor for Linux since a long time. I just checked out the site and saw that this will be included as a 1-click-install in Ubuntu 10.04. Since it's only a month away, I guess I'll wait till then to test it out. But it's good to know that there's been progress in this department as well for Linux  Thanks for the info TF! -
Wow its been quite a while since I looked in here. I've been using security essentials for over a month now and the results are actually good. I disabled autoplay for USB devices but I know that a few viruses are still dangerous. As soon as I pop in an infected pen drive, SE detects any viruses in it. So far I haven't seen any free AV do that. It gives real time protection and that is more important for me because I don't use Windows most of the time anyway; only for file transfers which is a bit slow in linux. So my one-month old review of SE is that it's not that bad. I wish it could scan a bit faster though. It seems to take ages to detect and clean one single virus. MS's condition that the user should be having a genuine copy of Windows installed makes it all the more sensible. It is then guaranteed to work well in my opinion. So far so good. Let's see how long the good run goes on!

This happened a long time ago but I'm hearing about it only now - been out of date with the world for some time. Thanks to youtube I caught the moment and I'm very happy that Tendulkar was the first batsman to achieve this record He has contributed a lot to Indian cricket all these years and I really hope he helps India get the world cup this time. It seems to be his only unfulfilled desire, as he's been in numerous world cup teams and even went till the finals but never once got to win. That must be really hard on him. Now he is nearing his career's end although no one knows when exactly he will throw in the towel. I hope he gets to be in the team that wins the 2011 world cup  All the best to the little master!

Paypal Allows Indian Users To Withdraw To Local Banks
H.O.D replied to The Simpleton's topic in General Discussion
Well you got the market place point right. People seem to have the opinion that each and every seller on the street will quote a higher price than normal and it is their right to bargain. Similarly, the sellers naturally assume that the customers will bargain and most of the times they intentionally raise the price. Well all that is street business and it applies for Indians only. In the case of what happens when foreigners come here, it is unfortunate that the sellers raise the prices even higher in the hope to make a quick buck. Call it greed or call it ignorance, but whatever is the case, this situation is going to continue for some more years and as you said it is no reason to think ill of Indians. Similarly it's not wise to think ill about all Indians based on judging a handful of them. -
How Does One Make A Good Comeback At A Forum? :)
H.O.D replied to The Simpleton's topic in General Discussion
Looks like your big plan of coming back failed, eh? It's natural buddy don't worry about it. I too don't find time to be active around here and I remember the forum only when I start getting "overdue" invoices to my mail! I have no shame in admitting that because to be honest I'm just interested in keeping my part of the deal and post here when I need the credits. That way I'm contributing to the forum and getting my hosting so both sides win. Other than that I really don't have the time really to be active in forums and do a lot of posting. But it looks like you do have an interest in posting a lot and that is evident from your 1k posts of course! If you want to be active then you do have to find time out of your schedule, no matter how busy it is. It doesn't take a lot of while to type out a few lines now and then when you're bored with what you're doing. Don't try to set any particular schedule for posting here. These days the internet is everywhere so hopefully if you have internet wherever you go, you can find time to post a little when you find yourself free even for a few minutes. You could be doing a whole lot of other things in that little time, but do set apart some time for the forums in one of your breaks! If you make this a habit then you will find yourself posting away like crazy and you won't know that you're doing a lot of work!!! So hope this works for you. -
The one thing I've been hearing about sleep is that until the school-going age, eight hours of sleep daily is required for healthy growth. At that age, the more you sleep daily, the more tall you grow After school life, however, anywhere between 6-8 hours of sleep is good.I've tried sleeping for just six hours daily and did all my routine work daily and I wasn't exhausted at all. Then again, that changes from person to person. But for people above 20, I don't think it's really necessary to sleep for 8 hours. There are lots of other things they could be doing awake, be it at late night or in the early morning. By sleeping a little less they get to enjoy more of life and thus whatever exhaustion they get it will disappear once they start enjoying what they're doing. Of course that exhaustion will return right before sleeping, but then you will have a sound sleep and won't know about that exhaustion at all.Wow that sure was a lot of rambling, wasn't it? I'm no expert on sleeping but I'll stick to what I said - sleep more in your childhood, sleep less when you grow up  Trust me it really is fun when you sleep less!

People keep talking about using ebooks for "saving paper". Well that is really silly. We waste lots of paper and trees all the time. There are many other departments where we can save paper and also trees. Books have proved how valuable they can be so with the silly excuse of "saving paper" I don't think we should stop using books and in that way, libraries.@nitin: yes going to libraries doesn't mean you are a bookworm, but sadly that seems to be the general opinion around the world. Anyone who visits a library regularly is bound to be made fun of by at least one of the people he/she knows. That is the sad reality we are living in. There are a lot of people who love books, but there are even more number of people who do not  I think that is why libraries are slowly losing their popularity daily. The people who love visiting libraries stop going there just to retain their popularity image. Unless we turn around this concept we can't persuade many people to visit libraries regularly.
