  1. Are you sure that the file exists? If it doesn't then you've effectively got code which says: $b_4 = It may seem simple, but it's often the simple things that people miss However, when I counted down I got the 31st line as the one which says: fwrite($6_stream, $b_1); I don't see anywhere in the code where you set a value for $6_stream, so you are creating a file with a blank name. Just another thought. PHP is very temperamental.
  2. Exactly what are you trying to install? phpBB, Invision Power Board, PHP-Nuke? This would greatly help us in trying to help you.
  3. I have quite a bit of experience with phpBB, including various modifications and extras. I have added you on MSN to try and help you, but as Serverph suggests, it would be useful to have a list of modifications or a screenshot of the admin panel. If possible you could also provide a link of where you got the modded version from, which may provide a list of the modifications they have used.
  4. I'm in the same situation as Plenoptic, having the whole family needing to use the computer at various times. However, I know a few people with laptops that only they use, stuck with a welcome screen, and I shall pass this on to them. Thanks very much.
  5. Evalve offers free phpBB forums with no ads. They're supported by donations from members. Free to sign up and instant activation. I've never used the service, but it has good reviews. Evalve.org They also have a very nice walk-through style help guide to setting up your forum here. Unfortunately you cannot get mods, add-ons or themes installed, but its the same for most free services.
  6. There were 10 workers on the site at the time, all of whom were found. Its amazing they survived the explosion. The smoke is heading out over London, down to the south coast then across to France, Germany and some people even expect it to reach as far away as Italy or Greece, depending on the wind. The fire brigade said that the fire may take up to 3 days to put out as there is not a huge amount they can do except let the fuel burn. I live about 20 miles away from the blast and I felt it, although I was already awake at the time.Hotels and shops in the area were all evacuated and most of the roads have been closed. The industrial estate it was near was virtually destroyed, with windows blown in, walls destroyed and various other bits of damage. There are also claims now that the site was unsafe and various EU directives and requirements hadn't been met. They still don't know what caused the fire, although the police have branded it an accident. The British public have adopted the normal stance in circumstances such as this, which is to panic buy whatever may happen to be in shortage. All the petrol stations in Hemel have closed, not only for safety, but to stop panic buying, and petrol stations in Aylesbury, Watford, London and loads of other places nearby have been either closed or limiting supplies. The oil companies claim they have enough oil reserves so as not to be affected by a disaster like this.
  7. To get IPB for free you've got to use an old version, like the one offered in cPanel, as these were offered for free by Invision at the time. Obviously, as this is an old version, there aren't as many skins, mods and patches available.Your best option is to use phpBB if you want the skins, mods and security, or use the IPB offered in cPanel if you really want IPB, but only old mods will work with it.
  8. I think there are a few people on the Microsoft Developers Network that have Vista. As its in beta and is still being tested I would advise against installing it, even if you do find a copy. The operating system is not the best part of your machine to know has bugs and is likely to crash If you just want your machine to look like Vista then you can try the shell pack. Less risk and you still get some of the features. Vista / Longhorn Shell Packs After a quick look on the Microsoft site I found this. Anyone who subscribes to the MSDN can download Windows Vista, just click the large green box on the right. Good luck.
  9. My commit charge is 497M at the moment, running Opera, Norton and a few other background applications. It does fall with every application I close though.Try and get a free memoery tester and diagnostic tool, which will probably be able to tell you if you've got a problem with your memory.
  10. I agree, you must be able to appeal. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, right? Then again, in the UK someone got a speeding ticket, but the photo was blurred, had an error on it which meant it couldn't be relied upon in court, he was only a few miles per hour over the speed limit (within accuracy limitations of speed dials) and he was still given the ticket after he appealed. They have quotas and they have to be seen to be actually doing something, otherwise they will be accused of being 'soft' on criminals.
  11. I downloaded the video when it first came out. They also smashed an iPod here. People say they're idiots but it is great to watch people's expressions. They've waited in line for days and they see these people as the first to emerge with the new xBox, everyone cheers when they get it, before he throws it 15 feet into the air and it is smashed with a sledgehammer! I can't believe someone asked them as they smashed it if they could have the controller! They even said someone cried when the destroyed it Get the longer video, its much better, even if it does take a while to download.
  12. I'm going to vote for Avalon too. The way the background and render merge together looks excellent here as the colours are really similar. And I agree with Mayank, that text is quite clever.Reaver : 0Saint-Michael : 0Avalon : 2Mayank : 0
  13. This should do something similar to what you need. Simply cut and paste it and change the few settings. http://javascriptkit.com/script/script2/countredirect.shtml
  14. I can access it. Make sure you haven't got a firewall thats blocking the site or something.
  15. Dreamweaver is good if you have the money for it, but if you need a free option, I would suggest PHP Designer 2005. Ignore the name, it can code virtually anything (JS, ASP, HTML, PHP, MySQL...) adn has syntax highlighters, automatic brackets and other stuff. One really useful feature I've found is the multiple syntax highlighter. It automatically detects what language you are typing, and highlights accordingly, and accepts multiple languages in the same document (e.g. A mixture of PHP, MySQL and HTML). Ultimately, however, it is entirely personal preference. Get the free trial of Dreamweaver, and if you like it, buy it. If not, go for something else.
  16. eBay is a great way to buy things. Always check the feedback rating and how long the seller has been a member. As a rule of thumb, I never buy from anyone with less that 95% feedback, and I always read the negative ones. Also, never buy from someone who onloy set their account up a few days ago. It may seem a bit mean, but you need to keep safe and make sure your cash doesn't disappear into the abyss.eBay offers a protection scheme, where if your goods don't arrive, or are completely different from what you ordered, you can request their help and they will try to recover your money. Also, always check the pictures they give on the listing. If they match those on the manufacturers site, then contact the seller and ask why they don't have any photos of their actual item.Just remember to use logic and common sense and not to get carried away! Good luck
  17. Sometimes there is a limit set on how long you can keep the connection open for. I always upload folders one by one as some can be pretty large and not only take ages but can really slow down my connection.Just try uploading each file separately, if Plenoptic's suggestion doesn't work.
  18. I know a lot of HTML, quite a bit of PHP and Javascript, a little ASP, and I'm now moving into Flash and ActionScript (which is very similar to JS).
  19. Actually pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is not classified as the longest word in general usage as it is a medical term and entirely non-existant. It was made up by someone to show how medical terms could end up in some years if they carried on naming things in the way they did.The disease is actually called "pneumoconiosis", which is a little easier to pronounce!
  20. Wow, AOL's sales pitch just gets better and better Regardless of what Internet connection speed you've got, your firewall should still protect you. Most viruses are pretty small anyway, so you don't notice them downloading, so you wouldn't really notice a change in speed from 56k to ADSL.
  21. I have a measly 1.1MB ADSL connection. I live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere. We are one of the few to have ADSL as the possibility of having a connection runs out about 3 doors down as we are miles away from the telephone exchange box thing.
  22. Games like Microsoft Flight Simulator can get pretty huge, especially when you start loading in all the high quality textures and extra aircraft, and detailed scenery... The list is endless!I suppose as HDD capacities have increased, it has become less of a concern to game developers as to how much space a game takes up.
  23. Happy Birthday Opaque! Thanks for a great hosting service, and have a great day
  24. In the UK its free to have your number removed from telephone directories and you can be put on the Telephone Preference Service, which is also free. That stops anyone who witholds their number from calling you. Theres also a similar servic for junk mail, but I can't remember the web addresses. It's also now illegal in the UK to get the 'silent calls', they have to either have someone answer the phone as soon as you pick up, or have a message play and promise not to call you again.
  25. I have Norton Firewall and I checked all the info out. It blocks anything which has a vaguely advert-related term in it, but only on what it classifies as uncertified sites. There are options to allow certain sites through, but its not really a good idea to get all visitors with Norton to do that :PJust another something for webmasters to think about when designing sites.
