  1. If you're using a new computer, it's much better to use a newer OS. I used to use XP, but when I got a newer computer with Vista, I installed XP, but the drivers weren't as good as they could be and it seemed that Vista worked much better, so I uninstalled XP and started using Vista SP1 and didn't have any problems, but if you can I suggest you to use Windows 7, it seems to work better than Vista even though for me both are stable..Some people install XP just to play games, because Vista or Windows 7 takes much more RAM and resources, so they turn everything off to make it use only 95 MB of RAM where Vista usually takes ~! GB or even a little more, but as I have 4 GB usually I even turn off virtual memory, leave it only about 512 for some apps which require it
  2. forums works fast for me, pruning the forum DB is quite a bad idea as content attracts people to this forum, usually the best method is to archive old pages which as I understand is done automatically to save bandwidth/traffic of this forum. The forum might be working slower for you because of internet connection you have, or me it responds in seconds or sometimes even faster.
  3. Everything is alright with the login system, it's suggested to every login script to use a unique id, and hashing your ip address is one of the best methods for security, if you have a static ip than usually there is no problem, but for example I browse the Internet at home, at work and at university, every time I need to re-login at Xisto. Of course using Opera I just remember the password and push ctrl enter to login..People who are using dynamic ip needs to login quite often due to ip changes.. Imagine if somebody would get your cookie and put it into their browser, they could login and browse as if it was you, hashing the ip address does not allow this to happen. If you want to lower your security when having a dynamic ip, I suggest you to use a proxy which has a static ip, you always connect to the proxy on Xisto which is configured in browser proxy settings and I think it should work, you just need to find the right proxy, but if somebody will get your cookie, they will be able to login using that proxy, of course it's not a big risk that someone will get your cookie and that they will use the same proxy settings.
  4. I use VLC on Windows and it's quite great, it plays everything I need and usually has no problem, it's light and etc. Mainly I used it for DVD and Video, but I also have K-lite codec pack together with Quick time alternative, so some video formats or sound formats which VLC does not play I watch it through media player classic, those files are usually from mobile phone cameras or some digital cameras which doesn't seem to be supported by VLC and I guess fro some serious reasons, VLC is open source.
  5. I wouldn't use IE even if it would be bundled But if it was not bundled and we it wasn't so popular as it is now, for example would use only 3% of the market, as a web designer I would install it, because I would need to test how everything works.. Nowadays using IE8 isn't a problem, as it passes the Acid 2 test 100% and is much faster than previous versions, the only problem for me with IE is IE6 and IE7, usually I don't care about IE5 anymore as it's really dead for me and people who browse with it these days I think understand that they won't see most of the websites as they want to or needs to be shown. :(So I practically wouldn't use it, but would install it.
  6. Well, I also used the feature to see custom day periods, but with time I just can see less and less dates to the past, currently I can only see a custom Day period from May to Today, but I've used to see it before May.. As I remember I registered at January or even December, well the first days it appeared. Will need to ask the support of kontera. ;]
  7. To the list I could add another recommended browser: Opera 10 Some people say they don't understand how to use Opera, I just say that it's the same as any other browser.. Using Safari on Windows, sometimes it's not as stable as it can be, sometimes it takes to much CPU for no reason, sometimes it uses a lot of RAM, it's much more stable and better on Apple..
  8. I use Opera and always did as my primary browser since version 7 or 6.. It's really fast and works well.. but I don't use it as my default browser, as my default browser I use Chromium or the so called Iron browser which is very similar to Google Chrome just that is has some features removed from the original Chrome to protect my privacy a little bit, because it's very fast and I made it default to open links from IRC, Skype and emails which usually aren't interesting or just temporary.. On Opera I have a lot of tabs which I always need and do all the main browsing, store cookies and etc. where on Chromium I delete all my browsing data quite often. You can get Chromium here: http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php
  9. You're right starscream, I sometimes log to kontera.com and see that They don't show total amount of money earned so far and I can't select the period from the beginning thats why I got a little annoyed tried to search for this issue, but never found any info about it, I just wonder if the money goes away or there's a way to check it.. I noticed this quite a while ago, several months ago, but were to busy to post something like that, as the income isn't big anymore, it used to be big in the first days though.
  10. I remember when those jokes appeared, they were really funny, some were really hilarious that a lot of people in the world talked about them and made their own.. Those jokes made Chuck Norris quite popular..As somebody said to me, those kind of jokes existed before, but they didn't get so popular, jokes like that existed about Mr. T. from the A-team, but they didn't get so much popular like they did about Chuck Norris! Will need to read more about it :PSometimes I hear or say a joke about Chuck Norris, having a T-shirt with some Chuck Norris quote or something like that, sometimes is still funny and quite cool !!!
  11. I also don't do browsing in Fullscreen, due to my screen resolution always was quite high and currently it's 1920x1200 so there is really no point to do it, because I want to multi-task and do others things too and not only browse, using fullscreen in many cases is inconvenient..As mentioned, I think that browsing using Fullscreen is really good on small devices, where the screens are really small, for example on laptops with 7-10 inches wide screens or something like that, when it makes life easier, on normal computers with quite high resolution it's quite alright.I remember using 800x600 in the past and also didn't really use Fullscreen..
  12. To add my two cents, when wanting to create a DVD from a movie format like mpg or avi, if using Windows, you can use a program called DVD Flick, which has a quite simple GUI and can burn the image, just usually it takes time.. Even though usually a DVD player knows how to play avi movies when you burn a data disk with it, in some cases you need a real DVD.. I used DVD flick to create a DVD from a quite good HD camera of one party and I really liked it, it can create a menu and all the stuff, even though it's really simple to use it, the only thing is that it takes quite a while to create an image and burn it into a DVD.. You can get DVD flick here, it's free: http://www.dvdflick.net/
  13. Nice signatures, even though they are distracting, but I think animated pictures are good for avatars too ;]What I don't like with animations, that they need to be gif and I don't really like gifs, due to they are 8bit, even though I heard about jpg animations and png animations, which in my opinion would be much better, but in most cases it would not work.. Of course it can be done with javascript quite with the same effect, but not as optimized as it could be...Using flash for animations.. you need a flash plugin to see it..
  14. To just add my 2 cents to the topic, on windows installing Wampserver is usually an easy task, the most common problems is that localhost does not work, so you need to use 127.0.0.1 if working locally, it maybe be due to proxy settings or firewall settings or similar reasons.. Second common reason for Wampserver not working is software like Skype, which is using port 80 and wampserver does not work, you need to make Skype through preferences to not use the port 80.. Of course port 80 can be used by other software too..
  15. Funny reasons to destroy your laptop, but also quite true.. Some people usually do stuff like that with fluids, but the computer continues to work, just not all the keyboard keys works as expected or usually the screen brakes that you can't see anything.. What a pity, I always try to be careful with my laptop ;]
  16. For the hosting, you can have a hosting plan and a subdomain like (subdomain.trap17,com), or you can have ayour own domain and hosting.. Nevertheless you can get a domain here on Xisto and hosting all together, just use the Xisto client panel.a Domain costs ~10$ for a year.
  17. I think a hardcore gamer can quit gaming, if he will want to. I think it's something like with quite smoking, if you don't really want to quite, you won't.. Usually gaming affects people differently, some just quit as fast as they started playing games. :DI usually start playing something when I'm nervous or don't want anything else to do, which usually I find.
  18. You need to use the same email on this forum and on the the xisto client panel, after you'll get over 5 posts here, you'll see your mycents coming up.
  19. Water level won't ever rise up to like they say on TV due to CO2 for 7 meters if it will melt in the arctic, it just sound logical.. but water will just spread around the world by rain and etc. land will get wetter, more underground water will appear, but won't rise for 7 meters on the coast and rivers won't get so much times longer. If you just believe all the global warming politics and business made by somebody to pay for air, you can read about water rising here: it's an article by an expert who knows what he is saying: http://www.ourcivilisation.com/aginatur/sealevel.htm Also you can read that site, to find some interesting stuff about global warming and all the myths and things which they usually don't tell you on TV, even though some articles aren't so good, buy most of them I've read are interesting. I'm not saying that we humans don't do anything bad with our planet, some people think that everything is just coincidence, live, nature and etc. some people believe that everything has a balance, if an animal is alive do to that tree and is eating it, the nature itself made oil, diamonds, coal for us to use it? If we would live like in stone age, for what purpose we would use oil, coal, why would it even exist? Well, even though I believe in balance, but still I also believe in coincidence. http://www.ourcivilisation.com/aginatur/moregw.htm
  20. When I was a kid, on Amiga computer I played Sim city 1 and Sim city 2, later I played Sim city 2000, but I wasn't found of it very much, as usually I was using cheats to get some money and just manage the city it was lots of years ago. never really played Sim city 3000 or Sim city 4, or whatever you call the new versions, even though I saw them. I really used to play Transport Tycoon or Railroad Tycoon much more often, as it was more interesting, in Sim city old versions I always hated Traffic, whatever roads you build, there's always traffic
  21. Not all, but most of Samsung and Lenovo laptops are good in quality. Samsung puts a lot of attention into quality, checking and testing their products, even though for that reason in some countries Samsung is a little bit more expensive than other similar products. :)Of course, there are some models which aren't so good, but those usually were the ones for personal use, for business use, which were and is cheaper.
  22. For beginners I really like to suggest to learn things in w3 schools here: http://www.w3schools.com/ Also, Zend has quite good tutorials for learning PHP, which you can find here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You can browse more at Zend website and find stuff, you later can start learning PHP framework like Zend Framework, with which you will be able to write professional PHP applications fast, learning it is a bit difficult, due to its OOP, but when you get hang of it, you don't want to use anything else and you forget simple functional programming If you'll continue on learning OOP, I suggest you to read about the standards for UML, rules like GRASP and etc. The way you need to write OOP applications.
  23. It make the computer more serious I guess, in movies there are lots of "funny" stuff which you can always ask or wonder, it's the same as why do actors talk to them self or before doing something most of the time they will say what they will do or what they are doing. :DWithout the beeping of the computer and etc. it will be silent and no effect for the people watching that movie.

    Safari 4

I don't use Google chrome anymore, just for privacy reasons and alternative to Safari and Google chrome I'm using Chromium, also know as Iron browser I guess, which is a clone of Google chrome, just doesn't send any private information, the difference is that the form elements are a bit different in appearance, but it's the same webkit, you can get it here: http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php
  25. The best anti virus I think is you yourself by not opening files which you don't know and etc. Personally I think ESET NOD32 is a good antivirus as it is light and powerful, you just need to play with the settings a bit. Avast is a good choice if you want a free antivirus.
