Hey, welcome to the community! As long as you follow the rules (which are simple and for the most part obvious) you will fit in well here. If there are any questions about anything, feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you.

Hey all,I'm at the point in my project where I could use a web designer for helping out with some things. I can handle the coding side of things, but when it comes to the graphics, I'm really lacking. The same goes with finding the perfect layout and better understanding "usability" standards and whatnot.I'm curious as to if anyone here would be interested in helping out on a real-world project. I don't really have anything I can give in return right now, but I figured it would help give some hands-on experience, as well as possibly be a fun little puzzle. You can, of course, always use it as part of a portfolio or something as well.If anyone's interested in helping out with it, let me know! Thanks!

That system is pretty much overkill for web development and stuff, so you should be good to go. My development laptop is a lot worse, but I also run Linux on it (the difference between *nix and Windows will make a huge difference on the laptop's speed). To be honest, with your stats you should be able to do graphics and video editing as well. The i5 is a pretty decent CPU, and the 8GB of ram will do wonders.

How To Make Simple Search Engine?
rpgsearcherz replied to bikashjit's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The closest thing I know how to do would be to use PHP to find "similar" articles. To do that you'd want to use SQL to do something like "SELECT * from xxx WHERE yyy LIKE 'input'" I have no idea how to parse other pages though. If you just wanted it to link up to the other sites (such as a dictionary) you could just plug in the search query to their URL's query spot. An example of this would be like, if their URL goes http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, you would just put your query after the = sign. -
This reminds me of the quote I see all too often now: "...first world problems." It's related to people complaining about absolutely everything. "iPhone 5? Why can't it come out on Monday instead of Tuesday? This sucks!" Things like that. Most of the things we end up arguing about are things most people would do anything for the luxury to even experience, and they wouldn't complain as a result.

Welcome To Xisto - Open Discussion + Free Web Hosting
rpgsearcherz replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
Just create your Xisto - Web Hosting.com account using the same email that you use here, and then it'll take it a little while to get linked but it should do so automatically. If you mean getting activated as in after having already gotten enough and paid MyCents for your hosting, that's done manually but is put into their queue once you've paid.- 9 replies

Migrating To New Server Soon..
rpgsearcherz replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
I've been wondering this myself, but I don't think they'll open up to sharing that information, sadly. I'd like to know how well the forums are doing at supporting the cost of our hosting, and especially if there is anything wrong that may be pushing them to turning off the MyCent system or something. -
Twitter Will Have A Download Tweet Option
rpgsearcherz replied to darko100's topic in General Discussion
I don't get what we'd be downloading... images that are posted? You can already do that by right-click + save image as.Unless it means to like download the entire timeline or something, and then I'm really not sure what the use would be other than as a backup. -
Let's go get the name of the implant registered. It'll be the iEye. Instant billions. YES!

Really don't know what to say about the post count as I don't pay attention to any of that. I pretty much just post now and let the system do its magic. I know when it's done because it sends out the email to say some of the MyCents have converted, . Past that, the system is so random it's not worth worrying about.

I think the new iPhone, while it is new, isn't worth upgrading to. There's not enough to really justify an upgrade at this point. It's more or less like upgrading from a 2012 car to a 2013, while both are pretty much identical. Those who do it will just because they have the expendable income, but when it really comes down to it, there is no reason to.From a business perspective, I understand where Apple is coming from. They keep everything proprietary so you have to rely on them, which in turn increases their business. While it's often seen as "rude" from the buyer's perspective, as long as people keep making the purchases I don't really see where the argument is!

You did raise some good points regarding the issues that are faced in places where electricity is more of a luxury. I can't recall ever being anywhere like that (in the US) but I have been to many small towns where there's one gas station for 100 miles in any direction, and in towns like that I can definitely see it being an issue in terms of expecting special charging stations (as their usage would be minimal). It's interesting to see what this idea has been around for so long though!

If you're spamming, you won't get credit. Otherwise, give it time. It can take up to 8-10 days before credit is given. I just got my last update last night though. The script is a bit random but it does work properly.

Displaying And Formatting Csv Contents

In the code you posted, what is "exit" (near the top) supposed to do, stop the entire script from continuing or just the if statement? I've never seen that used before... -
No problem. I think it would be somewhat easy to adapt for the double-opt-in. All you'd need to do is have it store two new variables for "tempid" or something and "active," in the database. Tempid would be randomly generated and would be what's sent out in a verification email (upon which clicking it would verify the email/id do match), and the active block would tell whether or not it's been verified already.

I am from the U.S., so you were right on that. And we're not even close to being the "richest" country. As far as I know that's China. The issue with us is that we're in massive debt. If I remember right, we're like 7 trillion dollars in debt due to borrowing constantly, so while we have a lot of stuff, it's solely because others have the money and let us borrow. Which is weird when you really think about it, considering people like to claim we have all the money!

Is this so that when a shark comes after you, you can outrun your friend and allow the shark to eat them instead?

Budget-wise, HP and Acer have been the best laptops I've seen in terms of price vs. performance. I'm really not sure what stores you have in Canada that are comparable to the US though. Here, Wal-Mart and Best Buy are where the cheaper systems are found. The last couple laptops I've gotten had 500GB HDD, 4GB DDR3 RAM, a dual core CPU and were less than $300.

This is absolutely true as well. The only people who really make money off of PTC programs are the owner and people who get a ton of referrals. If you're just a single person trying to get anything, you won't earn much. But if you have, say, 1000 people under you, that's where the money starts coming.

Keep in mind that this is just for a single-opt-in it looks like. Most web hosts will require you to use double-opt-in or else you can have your account deactivated due to spam. So before using this on a live server, look into a safer way to build the database of email addresses.

Well, as far as I know it's still a theory. And why would they spend their entire life researching it? The same reason the government is still spending billions of dollars a year researching the possibility of aliens. Just because people spend time/money on something doesn't give any proof as to whether or not it's real: it simply means people think it is, and therefore are willing to do whatever they can to prove it and/or learn more about it.

Speedtest - How Fast Do You Think Your Network Is ISP Battle Royal
rpgsearcherz replied to Kubi's topic in Computer Networks
My download speed is around 3mb usually, upload around 1.5mb. It really doesn't go higher than that, but it does go lower. The cost is $65 a month though (it's a WISP - wireless ISP).I have a friend that gets 50mb down and like 6mb up for $20 a month. Kind of makes me sad! -
First step: move away from IE and into Chrome or Firefox (I prefer Chrome due to its layout). IE's always given me problems, and is probably where your issue is coming from. What you are asking about in terms of your autofill is a core part of Chrome as well!

Yeah, those. Pet stores may have a seed that's more appropriate for them though. They might even have something specifically for crows.

Those hybrids that don't get many MPG is because their normal versions got much worse mileage. An example would be the hybrid Escalade (I think that's what it was). While a hybrid helps, it still doesn't offput the fact that larger vehicles (or inefficient ones) will consume more gas. I think the economy does play a role in the car sales, but a bigger issue is people who analyze how much they're truly saving. Doing side-by-side comparisons of some cars, such as all electric, to what we drive now, you find out that in more cases than not, hybrids or all electric vehicles cost more money to drive. This is based on factors such as maintenance costs + vehicle costs + fuel * average of x miles per year, and a few other things. While the idea of using less gas definitely sounds great, in all actuality the savings isn't that much when you consider needing new batteries and having to go to specialist places for repairs and whatnot.
