  1. Yeah, I think that's wrong, especially if the animal wasn't even attacking people. It reminds me of a high school's situation where they had a pet goat mascot and during the rival game time (where the schools usually play pranks on each other for fun), their goat was taken by the rivals and hung on the school grounds. For no other reason than "as a prank."
  2. If you want to see how things would look and to get better opinions from us, you could also design a few pages simulating the various ways you see it working out, and then we can see your real-world implementation and help give input based on that. Without actually seeing the designs themselves, it's hard to really judge. You could also, if you don't want to design the working pages, do designs in something like Photoshop or something and show like that. Basically anything to help us understand how you envision everything.
  3. I've actually heard this a lot. People often misunderstand animals by trying to group them all together (just like when someone is bit by, say, a dog, and assumes all dogs are vicious beasts). Even the sharks that do kill people, as far as I understand, are mostly based on finding prey through the scent of blood (meaning if you're not already bleeding and don't have something like a scab, they'll ignore you). There's been quite a few videos of people underwater actually swimming with sharks, both big and small, without any real protection other than the suit they are wearing (which isn't going to stop a shark bite), and with no problems as a result.
  4. The issue with giving them meat is that if it's done in the hopes that the crow will come by and see it, it could rot long before then. If the crow comes by at a normal frequency, though, pin-pointing the approximate time may be possible, but otherwise I don't really see that idea working. Maybe they'd be interested in normal bird feed though, like the kind that's bought at stores?
  5. To just find them in general, you can search for "article directories." The most well-known one (as far as I know) that covers all possible topics is ezinearticles.com I'm sure there are some in your specific niche though, and they may be better in the sense that the people who visit them are looking for similar information to what you're offering, but at the same time the quality is probably a bit lower. A majority of the article directories are going to be topic-insensitive though, taking in anything they can get.
  6. I'd think all gyms do a lot of cleaning. You're messing with equipment that a lot of others before you have touched (no idea where their hands have been) and sweated on. I can't see any reputable gym not keeping things clean. From a sanitary point of view, they've gotta be one of the worst places in terms of bacteria and stuff.
  7. I don't really think the amount of time spent online is necessarily a bad thing, depending on what that time is spent doing. As a direct example, it's been proven that certain game types increase intelligence and the ability to think critically (such as RTS games), as well as increase reaction speeds and ability to analyze (RTS/FPS). Furthermore, some people spend their time online learning about things. I agree that the Internet doesn't make you fat or socially inept as well, as there are many people I know that are hardcore PC users/gamers that are skinny, have well-paying jobs, and are very well socially connected solely because of the Internet and what it brings to the table.
  8. The random log-out happens to me from time to time as well. Sometimes I'll just leave the browser up, even on the index, come back a little while later and upon clicking on a topic I'll have logged out. Not sure what causes it, as sometimes I can be logged in for days or weeks with no problems.
  9. I can read this current post, if that's what you mean (or did you mean another one that was in response to this one?). As for the security captcha... I have no idea. Were you logged in at the time? I've never had a captcha here.
  10. Hmm, the airplanes you're talking about are the cheap (like dollar or less) ones, right? That come in the small paper packaging and are used for giving away at parties and whatnot? If so, those most definitely do still exist. I saw them recently, though I can't recall exactly where (maybe Hobby Lobby or something).
  11. I had actually missed the landing... I found out about this from others (and they seemed surprised I didn't already know). This was some major news when it happened. I didn't even know we were trying to go to Mars yet. This does make you wonder though... whether or not it's all a hoax. I wouldn't really venture out far enough to say that it's not "possible" that we made it to Mars, but thinking about the distance, how big the rocket is (and heavy) and the amount of fuel that would be needed to get up there... It just reminds me of the hover-planes (where they can lift straight up in the air) and how they burn so much fuel they can only hover for a couple minutes. Now take something hundreds of times as heavy (I'd guess) and send it on month-long flights.
  12. I'm not quite sure how this would work. CSV just means "comma separated values," right? So basically what you would do is: 1) Read in CSV file 2) Parse it, breaking apart the commas 3) Add data parts that aren't email to a table (ex. if it goes name, email, then you'd just be reading every odd array value) and output it?
  13. I actually did not know anything about this.. that's kind of interesting. I was under the impression that all USB cables were essentially the same (aside from the whole USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 and the USB Mini vs. the full size). I haven't had any devices, at least to my knowledge, that worked any differently with one cable than with another.
  14. What method did you use, the "what would you say if I told you I liked you?" one or something else? And... how did it work out for you?
  15. Hey, welcome to the site/forums! If you haven't already, you can easily see how everything runs by viewing the rules, available here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/77393-welcome-to-xisto-open-discussion-free-web-hosting/ Make sure that you follow all of the rules, and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask!
  16. I've actually seen free webhosts before that offer "free reselling hosting" but never understood the point, considering I'm sure they have some sort of header/footer that's forced linking back, and anyone who visits your site would be able to tell that they could get free hosting.
  17. I think any age is really fine, but with supervision. Supervision can be removed if the child is "mature," but that's a bit hard to define. While some bad habits can be taken up by use of the Internet, it also has a ton of positive aspects. The world is moving towards a more technology-based lifestyle, where things like Email are replacing physical letters and even things like banks can take their deposits online.I think waiting too long puts the child at a hurt for understanding technology and how to use it.It's really, because of all of this, hard to define a proper age. I've met children under the age of 10 that are mature, and 50-year-olds that act like infants.
  18. I just noticed it but only because you alerted me! I did notice an issue with the links at the top (for example, right now for me the 2nd and 4th links are both for "Forums" and both are highlighted at the same time) but didn't think too much of it. Just figured some custom additions were added and it messed something up. I'm not really against moving to new forum software, but I have the feeling that the migration process (especially with how many posts/users there are) might be tough, not to mention needing a re-working of the MyCents script and whatnot.
  19. You responded to a pretty old topic but the information's still good. Though I disagree with your statement that you can't change the IP if it happens to be static. I had this issue in the past, and I resolved it by calling my ISP and requesting a new IP. They asked some questions about it (more or less wanted me to justify why I wanted it) and after I explained my situation to them (at this point I don't remember what it was... been many years) they set me up. If this happens and you have a DHCP-enabled ISP, you don't even have to worry about what your IP is or how to set it -- it'll all be done on their side. I think you'll need to restart your router or PC though.
  20. Ah, you bring up a good point regarding the spam that would be brought up as a result. My biggest problem with most article directories is that they are so filled with ads that usually the information is kind of skewed. Take, for example, ezinearticles. Basically unless I try really hard to concentrate on the center of the article I'm reading there, I get distracted constantly by the advertisements. I'd definitely love to take a look at your list though!
  21. I haven't had that much experience with dirty stores, although there are a couple I've had bad times with... pretty much every time I go there:1) Big Lots -- this is a close-out warehouse-type store, for those of you who don't know. Maybe that's why it's so dirty though...2) Wal-Mart -- both stores near me are horrible. Sticky floors in the restroom, usually tons of things misplaced... just really turns you offLuckily I haven't had problems in any restaurants.. yet!
  22. This is some pretty good information! I think it would help a lot if you also gave out information on the article directories you think are worth submitting to. It'd at least help with gauging what's "good" and what isn't, through a type of comparison.
  23. It may be better to have separate pages for the information ('extra' info) and the more important things (like the puppies you have available). From here, you'd want the more important stuff to be seen first, and then you could link to the extras. It could be something like: Information about the puppies here Pictures and etc... whatever, info For more information about (my experience | my puppies | etc.) click here! This would help you handle the business side of things first, while allowing those that are interested in your other information have it readily available.
  24. I actually did not know about this stuff regarding Ford. It's kind of interesting though. But I'm a bit confused on how paying his employees more helped his company by increasing the purchasing capacity of cars by his employees (being that if he pays them more and they buy Ford cars, he's basically giving away the cars...).Still kind of cool though how thinking outside the box can lead to unforeseen outcomes!
  25. Ah, I didn't realize the bots are considered as guests here as well. Most forums (at least VB/phpBB) have certain groups solely for the bots so that they don't sway your online counter and make it seem like there's more than there really is.
