  1. Worth trying, I guess. It's just really hit-and-miss. I had someone write me a fake check in a mass scam spree. I didn't cash it before verifying it, and of course it didn't verify as it was written from a fake bank account. Called the police about it and they said these scams happen so often they don't have the manpower to handle them and therefore they don't even want the information about it as it will never go anywhere. Where you're from it may be different. It sucks, but there's not much we can do past that.
  2. That link just leads to an error that the page does not exist, . And while you could probably view parts of Google Earth while offline, I doubt it'll be too much. There would be massive amounts of data that would need to be downloaded prior.
  3. This is very true. Actually, if you research "end of the world" stuff there have been "verified dates" at least 50x over the past few hundred years, where people have "proof" that it will end on a certain date, then it doesn't and another date is chosen. So a question to those who think the world is ending: when you die can I has ur stuff? Thx.
  4. Hey, it's pretty cool that you were able to get your own design firm up! Did you start from scratch knowledge-wise and learn everything with the help of the forums?I've been thinking about getting into designing sites for others but I can't do graphical design and so it kills my confidence level, lol.
  5. If I could go anywhere, it'd probably be Australia or Canada. I think it's mostly because I wouldn't have to worry too much about not understanding their languages or anything, so it'd be comfortable.I'd consider more "exotic" places if I was able to get comfortable enough with their language to know I could get by without too many problems.
  6. There's a massive difference between the two situations though. Where I live (Texas -- I'm not sure about other states) if someone enters your residence you're allowed to use lethal force. But there's still a big difference between dealing with someone sitting in your home and going on a vigilante justice spree, hunting them down.
  7. I can definitely feel where you're coming from, and the majority of others would as well. But at the end of the day, I don't think they are really committing a crime. It's like you acting like you forgot your money in a restaurant and begging everyone to give you money just so you don't have to pay. Is it trickery? Yes. But is it an actual crime? I don't think so.
  8. Being that this is a "technical" word, I disagree with it being english. The longest word, definitely. But reading through the list there's a lot of things there that aren't english and instead are Latin or other language-based.There's no way I'd try to pronounce it, either. I'd lose my place after only a couple minutes and forget which part I read last!
  9. This. Depending on how open-source you want to keep it, at least. One idea is to let the open-source version (assuming the software needs to be updated) be free, while offering updates at a cost. This allows people to have a full version they can adapt or whatever, with the opportunity to keep getting support from you.
  10. I'm also against beating of women, but also men -- violence doesn't resolve anything, even in these circumstances. My response to a cheater would be to just end the relationship right there; there's really no reason to do anything else, and if I can't trust someone in a relationship then there's no reason for me to stay in it (or if they don't trust me).I'm just as against women who hit their cheating boyfriend/husband. There's just no need for it.
  11. I think this is something a lot of people seem to miss. The feedback part. Companies spend millions (billions collectively) every year to learn about their customers, their wants/needs, how they use products, etc. Social media gives that for free, plus often gives more intimate opinions. That's not to say that social media is a be-all-to-end-all, but when used in conjunction with other methods, it's definitely a valuable tool!
  12. There's really not much you can do. It's really no different than someone coming to your house and telling you they work for your credit card company and need your credit card. With the only real difference being that online people are harder to find. And it's so wide-spread that finding everyone who runs these scams would be a major waste (at least in my opinion) of resources. The only real way to battle it is to be more wary and not trust everyone.
  13. Finding "reliable" sources can be hard too though. There have been news reports that were found to be false, due to people making up stories and feeding them to journalists. Many people find the news outlets (like CNN, FOX, etc.) as being reliable sources, but it really all boils down to how far they investigate things. I take any information I find with a grain of salt. Anything can be faked, and anything can be real. There's even been scientific journals that have been proven wrong in the past.
  14. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "doesn't show up." Are you running iTunes? If not, that's the first step.
  15. Ah, I hadn't thought of it from that perspective. That actually explains a lot! I was thinking more along the lines of starting up your own site to offer hosting and such, which is already competitive as it is. But if it's more of an attachment to a service you're providing, I can see where the benefit comes from. Thanks!
  16. When looking at web hosts, you often find that they offer "reseller hosting." This comes from both small and large hosts, and claims to offer the chance for you to run your own web host. It looks great from the outside, too: your own site, your own client management, etc. while allowing the real host to handle support and billing. But when it comes to the cost, it's ridiculous. If you go to a site that offers this type of hosting, compare their reseller package to their cheapest. In most cases (nearly all) their cheapest normal package offers more than reseller does. And yet costs 1/10 the price. In other words, instead of people buying their hosting from you they can simply go to, for example, godaddy and get their hosting at a fraction of the cost, with more features and no middle-man. The entire thing both confuses and annoys me. Why offer the ability to "own your own web host" if the costs make it so ridiculous you won't ever make anything, and will in the majority of cases lose money?
  17. Forte brought up a good point with backwards compatibility. Consider the price difference vs. how much play time you'll get. Ex. if it's $40 difference and you'll play a single game for 40 hours total, that's $1 an hour (cheaper than most forms of entertainment). If there's more games and more time, that just makes it cheaper overall. The only person that can really decide if a system is worth it or not is yourself. People enjoy different games and like them to a different extent, .
  18. I actually wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense. The sad thing, though, is that it (probably) won't make that much of an impact. I hear people that don't even know much about technology using the term "retina display," and things like that will stick with them. I think even if Google were to surpass them on the quality side, people would still be siding with apple just because they feel more familiar with them. I'm personally all for open-source development and such, and I don't like proprietary hardware that forces you to use their own stuff or nothing at all. So for me, Google is my friend.
  19. This is very true. Even games like Angry Birds, despite being pretty basic, can make it big by doing something outside the box. This is one of the reasons why I don't understand people that put down indie game studios. Minecraft and Runescape are other examples of basic games created by only one or two people.
  20. This is very, very true and a lot of people end up getting caught up in them. I've read about some programs that appear to be legitimate, but only to the point of listing jobs that are available. Usually past that you're still on your own in regards to contacting companies and applying. And in that case, you could do that for free anyways.
  21. That's a good way to put it. In my own words, I'd take it a step further and say that love is always unconditional. When you truly love someone/something, nothing should be able to change that, despite possible relationship changes (divorce, breaking up, etc.). A crush, however, can come and go as things progress. I don't think love requires a relationship, either. I know of people who are divorced now that still love each other, but don't see an intimate relationship being a viable option. Instead, they are just friends (although this could bring on an entire discussion by itself).
  22. That's actually a cool looking client. I don't use Putty that often but when I do need SSH next I'll definitely be giving Bitvise a go.Just for future reference, though, it's usually better to just link the site it's found on, rather than a direct link for the download. In my case, I wanted to see more information about the program before downloading. For anyone else in the same boat as I am, the website is https://www.bitvise.com/
  23. According to Apple's support pages, it appears as if the defragmenting is done automatically. They use a term called "Hot-File-Adaptive-Clustering" to handle it. If you'd like to read about this on your own, check it out here. Basically, even through visiting other resources everyone says that defragging shouldn't need to be done.
  24. If you're using Chrome (you didn't state your browser) go to the options menu in the top right corner, then "Bookmark Manager" and then click on "Organize" and choose "Export bookmarks to HTML file..." You can also import the same way (by choosing import instead of export). And since it's in HTML format it should be importable into IE, FireFox, etc. without any problems.
  25. Keep in mind that with .tk, some web hosts will not allow you to use them. tk was highly associated with spam and erroneous websites in the past so a lot of hosts are against them. Google even ended up blocking the entire TLD at one point because it was getting so bad.
