Mycent Update Calculations [resolved]
mahesh2k replied to rpgsearcherz's topic in General Discussion
Opaque will only make comments related to how we can earn mycents effectively. Opaque will not give us hints on these things. This is because if it goes in public then system can be abused. Therefore we have to figure that out on our own. As rpgsearcherz said, page views and rank has weight but i see that as no reason for update that is within 24 hours. Either that or those posts close to mycent update will be credited in next mycent update. In any case, that will not earn us much. One more thing is that our post in new forum are getting deleted so i think that will affect our earning as well. I'm not sure if my this post gets approved so in that case how mycents will look for posts weight in sandbox ? or is it completely discarded and only posted replies are taken into consideration ?. Like this there are many questions in mind, let's see if i can find out how this whole thing works. -
Mycent Update Calculations [resolved]
mahesh2k replied to rpgsearcherz's topic in General Discussion
I think big paragraphs earlier used to give a lot of mycents. But now that is not the case. I have seen that 2-4 liners are giving better mycents in comparison to big paragraphs. And also if anyone is posting one liner then they're not getting much credit as per earlier mycent. Not sure what this mycent update. I pretty much agree with the first post about mycents information. It's just that none of us managed to understand how much weight there is for characters. I mean how many characters we need to enter for say X mycents. If we managed to know that then it'll be possible to figure out how to earn mycents effectively. There is already one thread that is going on about mean/average and now this thread about mycent update. Let's see if we can figure out few things by brainstorming about it. -
Let me try to answer some of the questions of rpgsearcherz. I'll try go in detail as much as possible. I don't think there is any detailing necessary if you've firefox add-on. If nobody clicks on link from the xmarks repository on web then this will only help to boost your ranking in search engines. Some search engine check social media and bookmarking sites for what sites are favorite by people. So traffic will be fetched only if that bookmarked resource gets rank high on search engines. If not firefox add-ons you can also use web interface for manually adding bookmarks to their database. Both these ways will do the same job of adding your link (which is dofollow) on their web interface. You get trickle of traffic if some people bookmarked your site on xmarks.

Flying Cars In The Future will flying cars exist in the future?
mahesh2k replied to mra550's topic in Science and Technology
Well issue with flying cars is fuel. How much fuel we need to lift car in air is the question. We can't use fans like helicopter/choppers. Also we can't use big jets as cars. In any case, just using fuel to go for shopping mall or mcdonalds will cost us lot of fuel. Already we're wasting a lot of fuel on F1 Sports and other sports using fuels. So there is no point in making cars based on those perishable fuels. Atleast we need some alternative fuel which we can use for the fuel for these flying machines. Other than that there is huge issue of pollution and traffic. Air traffic is supposed to be controlled as well. Pollution if not controlled then will cause a lot of problems. One more thing is if there is any defect in machine and it falls down then it could hurt many people living at the bottom. This is the reason i think before making flying machine available to public we need to keep in mind those things. We're learning a lot from sci-fi movies. We modified a lot of our lifestyle in such way that it doesn't affect our generation. If we can build touch-screen, metros as per sci-fi movies then i see flying cars as possibility. -
Video Game Difficulty Different campaigns
mahesh2k replied to Zagubadu?'s topic in Science and Technology
Games are made with difficulty to kill boredom that comes default level. If you able to kill enemies quickly or feeling no competition at all then you're mind gets bored with it. Just check that playing mario for hours can get you into boredom. That is because of the predictable levels and moves in the game. You know where to jump and how to avoid hurdles. So once you learned how to get over it then you'll be able to complete that easily and that's where boredom hits.Again some games take you on difficulty progressively while some mission based FPS games are difficult for every level. That is because most of games has level standalone and not related to each other. So building such type of games is one choice which money hungry game makers companies hardly do. Why don't you try that ? Avoid increasing the length of the game if you're adding too much of complexity and difficulty. -
Well you guys are irritated cause you're on consumer end. In contrast to my previous post let me see things this way. If you're affiliate marketer what will you do ? Definitely you'll sign up for CPALead and will show ads to people or geographic area where there is more traffic. So i don't blame those facebook ads or sites with CPALead. It's about money that comes from irritation or annoyance or desperatation of some other people. Like you and me, these marketers are feeding on needs of some people so yes, it may be annoying but it's business.Coming back to topic, Cost per lead based model is worthy and profitable if we know about it. We need to know where to pitch the content and how to earn from it. I'm using two CPL based networks. One is affiliater and another is azoogle ads. These type of marketing does take time and annoy people. But it pays off handsomely

I think you registered for the old forum and got this username while replying to some X topic. Read only mode in earlier forum used to have guest forum posting. That forum could have registered you in this system and now you got this profile and email notification. I think of only this possibility. I see no other reason of you getting inside the database in any other way. Look at the joining date it's 4 year back. So definitely it has something to do with guest posting or sign up form for guest posting. Maybe earlier guest posting had email address field when you asked question in old Xisto forum but now it's not there anymore.

Who Lives Longer, Vegetarians Or Non-Vegetarians?
mahesh2k replied to BCD's topic in Health & Fitness
He's right. There is junk food in veg side. In india, there are some states where people eat lots of veg and they do have junk food. Dish with mashed potatoes, spices and butter is high on junk(just as an example). Those who wish to gain weight usually prefer those dishes. I can name few veg recipes for you, if you wish you can google for them. These are starters in some states but in another state they are sold as junk food or fast food dishes. - Dhokla - Chaat - Vada Paav - Paav bhaji - Idli-wada sambar These are the names of fast food recipes. In some states where they're prepared as main course while in some states they're preferred as fast food and often sold in restaurant chains, street-hawk chains, malls etc. Again i'm not sure what you people call junk. But here in india, food that has lots of calories and contribute nothing to our body is considered as junk. So most of fast food items, be it veg or non-veg both considered as junk food here. Burger, pizza is also considered as junk here i'm not sure about any other country. -
I just tried my best to help grow that wisdom tree but there is not much of growth for it. 2-3 leaves so far and i don't know how long i'm going to replay the same game. By the way, i got into one of the gaming review and they told me to type "future zombies" while playing the game. I did the same and i found that zombies with sunglasses and different clothes in game. It may help make bit tough as those glasses needs to be taken down as well with zombies. So like those tin can and hat you need to work out of that glasses. I'll see if i can find few more such tricks. There is also one easter egg or piniata sorta. It works by making your zombie a piniata and giving you lots of coins or sun. If anyone knows more of such tricks then please post it here.

Mycents Are Not Updating Please help me...
mahesh2k replied to fermin25's topic in Web Hosting Support
I agree with magnafrost on this one. Opaque is running the script as standalone i think. That is the reason we're getting so much time between the updates. After last update script only updated once for mycents 4.0. I'm sure the next time when opaque comes online the script will be updated or perhaps tweaked more. I don't expect to run script 24hrs atleast for this month. Things with updates are going random and there is no way we can see 24 hr update. Last update was 36 hours ago, hmm so expect this update little late or at the time when opaque comes online. In between, did you created your support ticket and explained your problem ? If yes, then chances are you'll get some satisfactory answer from support team. If you've not created support ticket and explained your situation, then i suggest you to do the same. -
What Is The Best Way To Avoid Spams In Your Website?
mahesh2k replied to web_designer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have seen that plugin on one of the popular blog. I don't know it could be either copyblogger or problogger i guess not sure. The comment system on the blog posts turn off automatically after say 60-90 days. Maybe custom plugin developed by those bloggers or likely to be commercial plugin. For trendy blog posts and topic that plugin will definitely help cause such pages die in terms of traffic but gain a lot of PR. This is the reason spam bot search for page and attempt to comment. I'll see if i can get link to that plugin. If i don't get it then i'll ask this to one of blog forums or on blog as comment lol. Daniel scoco of dailyblogtips usually answers such question immediately and i'm sure he knows about this type of plugin. Just let me check if it's there. -
Who Lives Longer, Vegetarians Or Non-Vegetarians?
mahesh2k replied to BCD's topic in Health & Fitness
Life eats another life, so where that leaves a person being non-vegetarian. Everything that goes into our stomach has life. Vegeterian is turning out to be loose term now. I don't think it's veg or non-veg that makes human live longer but it depends on other factors like environment, our actions and healthy food. Healthy food comes in both meat and plant way. Both had life before getting into plate of human beings. I'm of opinion that omnivorous people live more life. I've seen that these people develop better resistance as they accept both type of food. They accept advantages and disadvantages of both type of foods. -
What Is The Best Way To Avoid Spams In Your Website?
mahesh2k replied to web_designer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well i prefer reCAPTCHA to be last solution if you're getting more spam comments which are not getting detected by most of the plugins. Other than recaptcha you can still try these plugins.- Akismet- Spam karma- WP-HASHCASHThese three plugins will wipe out most of the spam comments and you'll hardly need captcha. But higher your page rank more chances of comment spam. There are even some comment jobs on microworkers where people pay to spam on blogs and site. Though they claim to post legitimate comments but if anyone is paying someone to make comment by carrying a signature link or profile link. Then i consider those type of comments as spam. Such spammers can be only limited by recaptcha plugins. As human user they get irritated with captcha attempts. There is not proper black-hate bots for recaptcha so it always takes time. You'll find less comments on blogs with recaptcha enabled. If you're posting article on blog that doesn't require any discussion on topic then you can close the comments. Many times spammers randomly choose site or blog page so you can avoid such spammers by turning off comments on your blog posts. See if there is any wordpress plugins which turns off comments after 90 days or any limited day period. -
Does this happiness from open source buys food for family ? Does this happiness help pays the rent, bills ? Does happiness from open source helps economy at all ? What if tomorrow people start to demand free logos and design, why not give them for free ?See, once this free thing is entered in mindset customers hardly bother to pay for it. This hurts economy a lot. Creating something free for recurring solution does prevent irritation and saves time. But creating everything free as counterpart for commercial project is indeed hurting economy. I think this is going off-topic but let's carry on wrt google's action. In my country, once people start to get taste of free they'll demand everything free that is associated with that thing and will never pay for labor in programming and installation or support. I know this mindset in people of my country and that is why i hate this free OS concept. I'm sure like my country there are many other countries who have people with similar mindset will come up with excuses for money and hardwork of others. Upto certain extent open source/free does help but if it starts to affect economy then it's not worth it. Though even if google moves to linux nothing new will happen as there is freedom for google employees to use OS. Their work involves in web development and not on desktop apps(some exceptions) so unless some sites need it they don't advocate certain platform and language. Some of google's projects use C#, ASP.NET while some projects use python and java. That way, google is working on most of the languages and platform. Even if they decide to move to another OS, their work will revolve around multiple platforms and language cause they want to serve people and make money with it. They'll not just move to another platform killing another entirely. Then again, i don't know its about promoting linux or something as some of the other here post cause they failed in their OS project(though they got netbook offer from sony there is not much progress in their OS). I see no reason they'll waste their money on linux projects that don't convert into profits. Funding to projects that doesn't give financial returns is foolist business,it's like digging their own grave.

What Is The Best Way To Avoid Spams In Your Website?
mahesh2k replied to web_designer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you're using wordpress then there are many plugins available for preventing spam. Some of the plugins that i use : Akismet You need to register at wordpress.com with account in order to get Akismet API key. Once you entered key there is nothing to worry about. They'll take care of all the spam on your blog. I found that akismet clears a lot of spam comments and their database is huge. If you want single plugin for spam control then akismet is the way to go. Spam karma This spam control plugin filters the spam bots by IP and location. Some bots are on typical IP range and location so it's better to block them and spam karma helps to keep them away. Spam karma has more other option which you have to look on your own. I only worked with few on one of my old site. WP-HASH cash This plugin is simple which asks question and filters comment spammers. Not effective for human spammers but atleast it keeps few bots and link spammers aside. reCAPTCHA They recently got aquired by google and now you need gmail id for using it. You can use recaptcha plugin for wordpress to integrate with your blog or site. recapttcha is effective against human spammers in some cases as it clears some spammers who hate to type captcha. There are some captcha jobs which are used against this plugin but google is using IP filter for their service so not sure if this update will be there for this plugin. -
It's all about making money be it linux or windows. Be it operating system company or the consumer using the product. Windows is popular not because it's easier but there is trade and better business build on it. Though many people think business can save money on linux but more business can be easily lost on linux. For example, windows support and security is business in itself, but linux hardly generates revenue on that domain. Apps being free in linux domain kills another aspect of business in the world of programming. Linux/Open source world makes people more lazy and used to free things which is one step ahead of killing economy. Once people start to procrastinate about paying for things and stuff then surely it kills economy. Be it free or paid software, there is money, time and hard work involved in it. Not paying for it makes it low value and people don't even care for those things. Open source made many programmers lazy and simple-copy paster after posting lot of code in public. I failed to see the profit in this linux side. Any platform if gets overused then likely to get abused. Few years earlier people used to claim that linux was virus free and then came script kiddies and small viruses. So saying that it's secure platform is not at all convincing. Just because google moved to linux doesn't mean it's better. It's about business and google will realize it soon when they'll recognize short funds from their search engine revenue. I hope google rethinks on their decision, instead of windows they should move to apple that will keep them on unix(mach BSD) atleast.

First of all i hate that 2007's interface. Im used to all those file >edit type of options. And with this new interface and icons i think it's getting complicated. I spend a few minutes trying to figure out how to give print for one of the documents. I dont know but i think we're used to this text/menu interface. Trying to improve the design with big icons and cluttered interface is just making things more complicated. I don't know how many people are actually finding this interface more usable than earlier interface but my vote is hands down. I don't know if 2007/2010 are giving PDF support for the documents like Openoffice. If they're doing it then i don't see any chance of moving towards openoffice for the pdf export of the documents. I used openoffice for pdf export then after that i'm hooked to cutepdf. If word 2010 is offering PDF support by default then i'll make switch anyway. I don't know new beta version of office 2010 is still available. But i've to check it out when they release the final version. Can't waste my time using the beta version. So many people reported issues with the release. Let's see when they finalize it. Or they did finalized the release ? Anyway,i'll keep tab on it later.

Why My Operating System Works So Slow ?
mahesh2k replied to web_designer's topic in Operating Systems
Thanks, have gone through reviews of diskeeper from other sites like donationcoder. There are few more alternatives as well but many of them are not good at defragmenting while we're working on disk. So that leaves only one good commercial app :diskeeper. So it Looks cool to me. But i found mydefrag better cause it's doing the same job for free. It can optimize boot and also defrag while working on system. There is also option of defrag screensaver. With that i can say that they're doing quite a good job of defragmenting. If anyone knows how to write macros scripts then they can write mydefrag scripts as well. On windows 7 i don't know how much we need to use defragment software but for windows XP mydefrag/JKdefrag or diskeeper are enough to speed things up as far as i know. -
Why My Operating System Works So Slow ?
mahesh2k replied to web_designer's topic in Operating Systems
Now that your problem is solved. Make sure you do these on regular interval :1. Defragging your partitions using Mydefrag software.2. Use CCleaner to clear the unwanted files on your drive.3. Use old JV16 registry cleaner to clean the unwanted entries in registry.4. Install programs and software on partition other than boot partition. For example, if you've windows installed on C: drive then install applications on D: or E: drive. This helps during bootup and also you'll have lot of scratch disk for some of your applications like photoshop etc. This will help keep your OS in good performance. Though old thread and your problem is solved still decided to post cause i thought this will help you or others. -
Knowledgesutra Forum Upgraded To Version 3 [resolved]
mahesh2k replied to BuffaloHelp's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
@opaque, It's really painful to get active topics after the upgrade. I think there should be link in the sidebar or at the top navigation. This is to avoid clicking forums> get active content. Instead if we just make sure that we get click to "Active content" instead of reloading the forum all the time. Now that mycents are back you can do these small changes now. -
Is Knowledgesutra The Same Trap17? I am a little confused
mahesh2k replied to fermin25's topic in Web Hosting Support
Yes, lot of things changed. Lots of drama and many restrictions discussion etc etc. It's not going to be like old Xisto, that i can assure you about. With the new mycent 4.0 update there are chances that some feature will make the update 24 hours to see the changes. Also i'm trying to experiment with the mycent posting to check how many posts or how much length of post can give you x mycents. This is to check that how much system is improved and what other parameters are going to affect. Like me, i'm sure others are also experimenting from their end to check what's going on. Don't expect things to remain same with KS. Lot of things are changed or likely to be changed over time. hmm, yes. We can still get hosting and domain with help of mycents. It's working and as per opaque's update, mycents will change every 24 hours. So keep posting to get mycents. -
Try to find magazine themes. Smashing magazine theme is also good and you can use it for fail blog. There are some minimalistic theme that you can use which puts more stress on content than design. When you're building fail or picture blog make sure your content stands out instead of design. If your content fails for failblog then there is no value for design. So don't put much weight on design and go for content-oriented magazine or minimalistic themes.

I found "Absolute C++" book handy for practical approach. In market you'll find tons of C++ books with theoretical approach but hardly there are any with good practical examples. This is the reason why i search for most of the books with practical approach. Robert lafore has few good books in his belt. There is one famous and worthy book he has written "Object oriented programming", you can check that book cause robert has written it in manner which makes it easy to understand. By the way you can check this hub aboutlist of C++ books sorted as per level of difficulty. If i've to suggest someone C++ books, my suggestion will be : 1. Absolute C++ 2. Object oriented programming -Robert lafore 3. C++ primer Many people on stackoverflow and other forums suggest bruce eckel but i digress. I think for newbies and intermediate people it's not the book. You'll find yourself into more conflicts if you try bruce eckel's books. Avoid "In easy steps" and "For dummies" books as they're band-aid and cut-paste approach books. Herbt schildt is also overrated and rarely you'll find content in the books of herbt schildt so i suggest you should avoid his books.
