A friend of mine was temporarily banned from the computers at my school a while ago after he accidentially found a way into Task Manager, which is disabled on our network. He has had his permissions restored now, but has no idea why he got banned in the first place. However, recently he explained what he did to me, and I tested it. I soon found out that, by accident, we had both discovered that there is a Security Exploit in networking Windows XP Professional. The exploit is to do with network permissions. Windows XP recieves the permission data from the network as soon as someone attempts to login to the network. However, providing the account was valid, it will not apply these permissions until the account is logged in entirely. Unfortunately, while XP is in the process of dealing with this, the user in question is able to press Control-Alt-Delete and access their account options.Seeing as how, by this point, the login will have not completed, the user would not have any permissions disabled. Therefore, he is still able to do things such as change his password (disabled on some networks), and, even more worryingly, access the task manager. This is a security exploit, as use of Task Manager on a network is known to be dangerous, due to the ability to stop processes critical to the network. It also allows the user to logout other people from the network.Permissions will still be loaded while Task Manager is open, however, so if the user quits Task Manager he will not be able to access it again without logging out and back in again to try and replicate the exploit. It is intresting to see, however, that while the networks, by default, block access to Task Manager unless you are an Admin, it does not block anyone from doing anything in it. So anyone who finds a way in, has a golden ticket to michief. What will Windows do now that such an exploit has been discovered? Only time will tell.(Bill Gates, if you are reading this, can you please be more careful with security from now on?)Thanks for reading this.

Designed By You Or Site Builder?
gameratheart replied to David789's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Currently I make my websites by hand, but it is getting very tiresome and I am starting to reach my limits and I cannot seem to pass them, so maybe I might redesign site in PhpNuke or something later...But by hand is best. -
I did. But according to some people, it doesn't work. So I posted as well. I don't break the rules. If I say *Reported to mod* in my posts, it is because I used the report feature.

This article is obviously copied from somewhere, meaning it should have been put in Quote tags. I do not know the actual source. However, but still... *Reported to mod*

Pc Turn On For A Second And Then Turn Off With Beeps
gameratheart replied to mirageforce's topic in Hardware Workshop
What these guys are trying to explain is that there is something wrong with the inside of your computer. It is most likely getting too hot, or something isn't working right. It is best if you called a computer technician or other professional to come take a look at it.Isn't it nice when a smart guy makes smart things simple? -
Windows Lingo Useful for those new to the terminology
gameratheart replied to garbage's topic in Science and Technology
Now this is very helpful and very clear for computer newbies. I would like to see someone say they didn't understand this. I doubt anyone could not. -
What it is, is that google is being asked for search results so many times from one place, that it set off a red flag. They have stopped searching from your domain automatically because they feel all these requests could not have been done by one network. It is not a joke or a bug.Just type the string as it said and there you go.It may be annoying, but it helps keep things under control for the website, and helps to make sure that people don't make spyware with the intent to flood google so it shuts down. The code is just to make sure you're a human being doing a simple search. (Most spyware and bots noways can't read images to figure out codes. A few can, but people are being more cleverer with them).

Trap17 Forum Board Version Upgraded to 2.1.6
gameratheart replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
With IPB having released another update, it has been reccomended that no further progress will be made until we have got the new update to work. Whatever it may be.I'm assuming that this is what OpaQue is doing... so I wouldn't ask about getting new stuff up just yet... -
These song lyrics... are just the BEST I have ever read! They convey their message perfectly and they do it in a stylish and practical way - they really point out all the problems.Like Dragonfly said, "You have a great potential to become a good composer or you have already become one, is it?"I feel as though these lyrics were written by a person who had felt this kind of lifestyle first hand. I have no doubt that you have, stevenufc291088. And if you haven't, then you are just too talented.God bless!

I use a similar but completely different program to Game Maker called "Game Editor". It's all just a simple point-and-click-designs-your-game interface, but if you want to do things like making scores/highscores, having one object effect another, etc. then there is a "script editor" where you can write the events yourself in a coding format much similar to C.It's simple to use, and rather easy once you get stuck into it, but it's currently only paid software for Windows Users, so you can only get a trial 30-day version for free. If you use Linux, however, the whole thing is free.I also use RPG Maker 2003... for now anyway. I plan to buy XP English soon. I also have all the older ones, too. I can make great games with all of them!

Saint is right. I once had no idea how a person could get Adware, Spyware and Malware so easily by browsing the web, that I was convinced I didn't have any. Even more so because I never saw anthing strange happening. But then I downloaded Ad-Aware and found out I had a whole 250 different instances of them. After that, I downloaded a virus checker too. I've been lucky enough not to have a virus yet, but I know when to be suspicious. Always make sure you know what is going on behind the scenes - it's not always as obvious as you think! P.S. Don't be glad that you haven't been infected yet. Just be careful. Otherwise, it's your computer's funeral. _____________________ If something makes you suspicious, you should be.

The matter that hard winds are already forming in the US with intent to create hurricanes already is having its effect around the globe. I mentioned how I lived in an area where the hurricaines do not affect us - but the truth is, the after effect of them affects everyone. Over here (in the UK), we're already getting bad rain and the occasional storm. And it's getting worse every day - we had a one-hour power cut just a week ago in the area in which I live. I can't think what it will be like in the UK when the hurricaines come to the US... and I just hope that they don't go much further.

In direct contrast with Megaman's topic, I want to know what is your WORST expirience on an RPG game. In other words, have you ever played an RPG and something terrible happened that you absolutely hated?I don't really have one... unless I want to talk about personal opinions (which will cause some rude words to fly). And of course, I respect the rules of Xisto, so I'd like this discussion to be as clean as possible.

Best time on an RPG? Winning it! :)Seriously, most RPGs suck. Especially "Final Fantasy".

I have a DS... and I'm 15... so I just laugh at whoever says that "the DS is for younger people only". Honestly, people who say things like that are ignorant of the fact that people like different things. But I agree with truman. PSP is going down. Like every playstation, hardly anything new comes out, and the Wi-Fi is sweriously underused. And then there's the price... and all the stuff...The only good thing about the PSP is DVD movies. Every single one gets instantly turned into a PSP movie disk the moment it's made. So you can watch your favourite DVD anywhere. But that's one point for the PSP, compared to the DS' 10+ points. But anyway, they're basically the same thing... so who cares?

That's IPS for ya... always patching and updating and evverything, and in the end just annoying all of their customers.I personally think that IPB is pretty much comparable to Microsoft - they both use the same strategy (get things up quickly and then start releasing loads of patches ). And just when you think everything is sorted... -
What Is Phase Change Cooling? and how does it work?
gameratheart replied to member_leaving's topic in General Discussion
Using a gas to help power a fan, then turning it back into a liquid, heating the liquid, and continuing the process over and over again? It sounds like a cool idea (pardon the pun), and I can see why it would be so effective and expensive! The gas you explained about sounds very much like nitrogen or hydrogen... I would say nitrogen because it turns into a gas on contact with the air, and also it's environmentally friendly. -
Saint_Michael's sig was cut-off halfway for some reason... Se?or Maniac's sig looks as though no real effort was done to it, sorry to say. All it is, is just black with white text and a white silhouette made to appear and dissapear - practically anyone can do that. I'm not gonna vote for itsmyard since I hate Man U... As for the rest, I like them all! It's really difficult to decide who to vote for, but I think I'll go for... Avalon: 3 Se?or Maniac: 0 Saint-Michael: 0 itsmyard: 0 Beagle: 4 savge17: 0

Any One Could Tell Me How To Sign A "co.uk"
gameratheart replied to guangdian's topic in Web Hosting Support
I still say, if it's in the uk, go for a .co.uk! I managed to find a hosting company that allows any end extention as long as you use their subdomain, so that's why my latest site is ending with .co.uk instead of .com, though I have to admit .com is more popular. If you wanna know, the hosting site that allows this is called AwardSpace, and it's a Sister site created from the merging of two successful web hosting companies. I will probably post on a separate topic more info about it. -
There were quite a few times in the poem when wrong words were used (like "loose" instead of "lose"), but I have a feeling most of these were intended.Regardless, that poem ROCKS!It's catchy, smooth, and got a good rhythm - in fact it could easily be made into a rap! - and it really shows how people argue about teams, but then realise how their arguements stop their friendships.I think it's a sweet poem. No doubt about it.

Man Hacks Into Government Searching For Ufos
gameratheart replied to Plenoptic's topic in General Discussion
That news article seems to have dissappeared from yahoo... maybe it was old, or maybe Yahoo! was told that story and posted it as news, but then found out that their wasn't signifigant evidence supporting the story. -
I cannot honestly believe that people find it hard to keep up Hosting Credits. All you ever need to do is talk about stuff you think will help others. An acceptable post could be as simple as "I find so-and-so to be very helpful for so-and-so", or even "I want to know, what do you think of so-and-so?".Honestly, the only people who find gaining Hosting Credits hard are the people who can't be bothered to do it! And in the end those people deserve to lose hosting.
