Actually COPPA, if you noticed, is not a rule, but an official government Act (hence the "A").I agree with croman, the idea of COPPA for registering at websites is stupid, but it means you cannot be done for getting information from under 13s. As long as you do not ask for personally indentifyable information, however, COPPA does not affect you.(My site does not get any information from Children apart from if their age is below 13, and since that is not information that is personally intifiable (I don't ask what their age is, but simply if it is less than 13 years), I am immune to the COPPA. I still ask for a parent's permission for access into forums, however, just to guarantee that they can't make me liable for Forum Content, and also, to remove any liability to any details the child enters about himself in the forums.)

Do You Use Neopets? Free Games, Forums, Fun for Everyone :)
gameratheart replied to concertina226's topic in Computer Gaming
I play neopets. I love it, it's so simple and fun. I started playing it when I was 12 after reading about it from a School Newspaper that soon after got discontinued. Three years later, I'm still playing. But I think that recently it's been getting out of hand. The comic-like "plots" they've been coming up recently get stupider every year, and they do something new everyday that seems just stupid, for example, a new species of pet, dedication to a colour, etc, etc. What's even more annoying is, hardly any neopets merchandise has come overseas into the UK. We've heard nothing about the TCG, and their latest PS2 game, The Darkest Faerie, looks like it'll never be shipped out (although they promise they will, but they lie too often).I don't play neopets anymore, but I still play it. It's fun, and it's a good escape from the real world. But I WISH they'd use a bit more common sense nowadays, it's getting ridiculous!!! Maybe that's the reason I started my own project a while ago. -
What Makes An Rpg Good? graphics...IGMs...playability..or what?
gameratheart replied to Arin Sky's topic in Computer Gaming
I think what makes a good RPG is a storyline that doesn't give away too much, a good battle system, ease of use, and something that can always catch your attention. I want games to be good physically. I want you to literally THINK about the game and ignore everything else. I don't think graphics and music matter so much, as long as they are pulled off well. It's nice to see how people think, 'specially cos I'm working on my own RPGs. But it's also intresting to see how people think differently about these topics. I hope the one I'm working on now satisfies the majority of people. -
That "StormPay" looks absolutely brilliant!!! I might think about using it when I finally get things to sell over the web... but you don't have to put ads on your site or something, though? And is it only US currency? 'Cos I live in the UK.

Fake Paypal Email Messages take a look and be aware
gameratheart replied to BuffaloHelp's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Puffy is right. I actually have heard official reports that people's accounts have been frozen without reason after using eBay or other "safe online shops" due to "Suspected Criminal or otherwise Suspicious Activity", and many people, like puffy, have lost money for no real reason. I have even heard a report that they charged $500,000 from an account for no reason! And the problem is, noone can do anything about it, because the worst fact of it all is: PayPal isn't owned by a bank, so they are immune to money handling laws!!! And then there's the people always trying to fake Paypal, and getting better and better at doing so, hacking accoutns unwarily, stealing money... I don't honestly see why eBay, or indeed ANYONE, trusts Paypal anymore. If anyone is seriously thinking about using Paypal, DON'T DO IT!!! You don't want to become one of the NEAR-MILLION people who have been conned out of money, had their account hacked, or get spam 24/7, so forget it. Paypal sucks. -
What's The Meaning The Words dude, hijack
gameratheart replied to guangdian's topic in General Discussion
I believe the word "Hijack" can be found in any good dictonary nowadays. To put it simply it means this:"To take over something that is not yours through dishonest, inappropriate and often violent means. To hijack a plane is to attempt to take over the plane by force." -
Are You Part Of The 2% Or The 98%? mind guessing game
gameratheart replied to ChristmasTree's topic in General Discussion
I thought up Koala, Australia, Apple, but then realised that to be wrong so I redid it and got: Denmark, Koala, Apple. My brain for some reason also came up with a secondary answer though, which turned out to be Denmark, Kangaroo, Orange. So am I part of the 2%, or the 98%, because I thought up both answers at the same time.Curse this severe autism!EDIT: Oh, and me and my bro have already worked out that the test works because adding the digits of any multiple of nine will add up to 9. But you can change the letter by subtracting a different number. And my bro has also worked out a flaw in this test because onec a person realises he is in the 98% he will obviously try to get years and years of practice so that he will eventually endup in the 2%. And if a person who is part of the 98% is found to be in the 2%, how do the statistics work!?! -
Yay! We have the latest IPB! I've been waiting for this, because I'ce seen demos of what this forum is like and it looked cool. And it looks like they were'nt kidding! And yes, the rumour I heard is true, these forums DO upload faster! I can't believe it! This is just sooo cool! Thank you Opaque! Great job, Xisto!

Same here, although I had just the one. I quit it cos it got boring... they're running out of ideas, I tell you. It's just the same thing over and over and over again. Why can't they just let the game die?!? It's gonna anyway. Trust me, I know. I used to be hooked on it.

Print Screen copies a picture of the screen that you can then put into Paint or Word etc. However, PrintScreen makes everything on screen appear. If you'd rather have a picture of only one thing, press Alt-PrintScreen

While browsing the Xisto forums today, two things strike me as weird. While I was hanging around the forum index, I get a popup from a website [i will not name to obey the rules], which my browser claims came from this website. But since when did Xisto use pop-up advertising? At the same time, the following error message appears: (Or something very close to that, you can't copy error message text.) This message popped up again while I visited a few topics, but I have not had it before this. Why has it suddenly started popping up? Can someone tell me what is going on, please?

Longest Word What is the longest word?
gameratheart replied to Zorkaplex's topic in General Discussion
I don't really know about long English words, but here are two I know that are pretty long and are (in a sense) generally used.1. Deoxyribonuclaeic (I'm sure that's not how you spell it, but it's about 20 letters long). - When used before Acid, it is the full name for DNA. Ok, maybe that's not generally used after all...2. Zoologicalist (13) - An animal researcher. But if you want to know, a person came up with a 100-letter phrase for a name of a church, which soon after registered a website and is now officially the longest website name in the world. I cannot remember what this phrase is though. (Well, it was written in a very strange language of which its name escapes me) -
Note to moderators: I have searched as much as I can to find an appropriate forum for this topic, but finding none, have put it here. I do not feel it should be here though, so if you know a better place for it, please move it. Thanks! Ok, I've got a real tough question that I know has not been asked before and may be difficult to answer, because it's not a question that's asked everyday. It's about business. Say that the manager of one company decided to start up his own website. Another company, who already has a website up (or just made one aswell), takes an interest in the website. After a long and tiresome meeting the two managers eventually come to a mutual agreement - that they are going to merge the two companies. If this were to happen, what would happen to their websites? They would now be both owned by the same company, so does that mean one must be got rid of? And if so, whos? And if not, what should be done? Tough one, isn't it? I've had my head stuck on the question for ages, and now i've decided to put it forward to you so that we can find an answer, if there is one. Please read through this question carefully and then make a cautious reply. I hope to hear from you soon.

UltimateStar, yes you can install and use phpBB forums on Xisto.com. Fantastico has a feature for doing that automatically for you. However, I should warn you that there is a little glitch. Once you setup a phpBB forum, on your first visit you must make at least one post, or else the database may crash. I don't know why this is, but it happened to me.

This is just a single-word translator isn't it? Like those English-French dictonaries... I've already got that kind of software on disk. But translating individual words is a painstaking project, especially as some words are available in multiple formats and may not suit a sentence. I need something to speed it up.

Credit System For 2.1.4 Update :)
gameratheart replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
Yay! We're going to have the editing system back! It seemed to me a nightmare having to constantly ask Moderators for Edits. Besides, we only lost it because 10% of our members were being... how should I put it? ...stupid. I for one breathe a sigh of relief over this news. But I also wonder why this could not be done sooner. But I am aware of the complexity of such a system and the time it'd take to configure, so I feel that I probably already know the answer to this and will not ask the question. (Well, I used to be an admin too, in two other forums, so of course I'd know) -
I have just discovered that I am going to have to "hard code" the website, due to the way the website is designed - the pages are opened separately, so only the index can be translated - using a link reverts the pages back to English, but keeps the translated links!UPDATE: I have changed the page design so that it now takes the data from individual pages and transfers thm into ONE page. This means use of translating tools is possible... but I think I'd best avoid it.

It's hard to answer that one, as either way I'll end up using google anyway. Back when I had my site on another host, all I did was make copies of the english pages and then translated the text into French. I used google to help me find words I didn't know. Now I'm thinking of taking a different approch.Your idea of using a "Google Translator" is good, but Google adds a frame to the top of the site to show it has been translated - which does not do any good to the design of your site.In short, I am not entirely sure.
