Unable To Connect My Comp. To A Wireless Network
wutske replied to evion's topic in Computer Networks
You've bumped a 4 years old topic ! You realy have to give us a bit more information, we can't help you if you just say 'it doesn't work'. Have you updated the drivers for you wireless card ? Any log messages in your router ? -
Get Rid Of Stupid Flash/activex-warning IE Users only :-)

Doesn't it help if you uninstall flash for IE ? -
There are still some distro's that fit on a single CD You could put two live DVD's on a dual layer DVD, but those are too expensive imho @quatrux: I only burn distro's on rewriteable dvd's and keep the ISO's on my HDD. It's not worth wasting a DVD for a distro as they become outdated rather quickly and using older distro's doesn't offer any advantages (compared to eg. XP)

Could you please post some info on how the pipelining increases the performance of firefox ? The paintdelay isn't a bad thing if it does what I think it does. The delay allows firefox to download the HTML, CSS and Javascript code before rendering the page thus giving you the right layout immediatly (without the delay it's possible that firefox shows the HTML code without any CSS code at first). Setting the delay might give you the idea that it's faster (especialy on slow and bad connections) but it won't boost anything

With 'function', do you mean a php function that generated all the html code and then spits it out ?Don't know if this could give you any advantage over a static page as a login page is a static page. It's better to have static page with some javascript to make it a bit more dynamic
-
It is possible, but I don't think it's that easy if you nothing about it. I have a Sun DVD wich has several Solaris versions/distributions on it so it's certainly possibe. You'll have to look up some e-book about creating a linux installation cd yourself and then figure out how to do it with existing installers, tough I seriously don't think it's worth the hassle because within a few month you'll have to create the DVD again because the last one is outdated.

You can't copy something from another site without quoting Plus this isn't a tutorial.

Yeah right ... show us the goods ! Decent PS3 emulation can't be done on a regular CPU as it lacks the power. The CELL processor is capable of processing 256GFLOPS at single precision whereas the Core i7 can only do 22GFLOPS...

It seems like their is some confusing around the page file.First of all, the pagefile is a file on your (slow) disk drive that is used to move less frequently used page from your system memory (RAM) to the swap file (disk). When a program requests these pages (page fault error occurs) the system has to read these pages from the swap file (disk) back to the system memory (RAM). Since a disk is still 10x to 100x slower compared to your ram this will slow down the overall performance. The reason why such thing as a pagefile exists is because you can have loads of virtual memory at low cost (price per Gb is 270x higher for RAM) and while you don't use it all the time, it's still a usefull thing because sometimes the amount of system memory isn't sufficient and you'll need the pagefile. If you disable the pagefile and you run out of memory then it's likely that a lot of programs start crashing or hang and you'll end up with a useless system. For clearing the pagefile at shutdown, there's no need to do this. Depending on the size of the pagefile it will slow down the shutdown process significantly (and it's also not a good practice if you have a SSD). I've also never heard anything about pagefiles being used to recover passwords or to hack a system.

It's probably just a registry key you'll have to change, but I have no idea which one and a quick search on the net didn't realy give an answer. I did found this: http://www.xphometools.com/ It's for windows xp, maybe it works on Seven (in compatibility mode or not) and hopefully it won't have any problems changing the registry (it might screw the registry up, so be sure to make a restore point before trying things).

Theoretically, the memory limit for a 32-bit system IS 4 Gb and there are enough addresses to address 4Gb of memory. However, a set of these addresses are used for other purposes (for address PCI stuff etc ...) thus limiting the amount of available address that can be used to address the memory (and thus limiting the size of the memory). 3.8Gb isn't bad at all, I've seen 32-bit systems that could only address 3Gb of memory .

You can't, unless you want to wait for it to go public . Google Wave is now only accessible via invites . You could look at it like an e-mail system, I think Google actualy looks at it in the same way, as Google Wave has an inbox and a spam folder . It's maybe a mix between a forum and an e-mail system, because you 'send' messages to eachother (in fact, you send nothing because everything is stored on a server) but you can also add widgets like a Yes/No/Maybe voting system. I don't know how to realy discribe it, it's a blend of many collaborative systems, e-mail, forum, wiki, msn, skype, ... It's crap, but you have to use it to realy believe that this is Google's biggest mistake ever
-
Seriously, nobody interested in testing Google Wave ?

A lot actually, but I don't use all of them.1 computer which I built for developping my master thesis (needs CUDA)1 computer which I use as multi-purpose server (Debian server, http, mysql, multimedia, backup, ... a Pentium III 733)1 laptop which I use the most (Dell Inspirion 6400)1 laptop as SVN server (available from the internet, a crappy Pentium MMX 266 w/ 64Mb RAM)1 laptop which I can use as RDS server for VirtualBox (also a Pentium MMX 266)0,5 computer which I'll use if I find a case and PSU for it I also have a lot of old hardware in the attic which is enough for building at least 2 DX4 pc's and onother PIII pc.My mother also has a pc, my sister had a pc and a laptop and my father has 2 pc's, a Mac and a netbook. And there are 3 pc's in my fathers room that need to be repaired. So grand total is 15 pc's =p

Ever wanted to try Google's new approach to collaborative working, called Google Wave ? Now you can . It's pretty cool as it incorporates a live view which means that others can actually see you type your respons (and also see all the spelling mistakes you make =) ). It's some sort of forum where you have to invite people to every topic that is made and where the replies aren't ordered chronologically (like usual), in fact, you can reply everywhere (even in the middle of someone else's reply). I have 24 invites left. PM me your e-mail and I'll invite you. Please do not reply to this topic with your e-mail (I'll only invite people that PM'ed me). //edit: Google Wave currently only supports Firefox and Chrome (or Internet Explorer with the Chrome plugin). //edit: 24 left

The client has nothing to do with the fact that the FTP server is sluggishly slow. Few days ago I could hardly connect to the FTP server (using filezilla ) because it was responding too slow or not at all. Browsing on the FTP server was even slower and I ended up entering the path manually because browsing 3 levels deep would have taken a minute or 2 ... Uploading some larger files didn't pose any problems, I got 2x30kB/s which is the upload limit of my ADSL connection.

Vista Bluescreen On Nvlddmkm.sys during cold startup.
wutske replied to yordan's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Guys, seriously, instead of bashing on windows you could propose a solution for his problem... Like this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Btw, this isn't a microsoft related error, but an nVidia related error, you happen on linux too (and believe, nvidia drivers for linux are way more crappy) -
My laptop has a GeForce GO 7300, which is a crappy card and does not have any troubles with displaying all the fancy effects. What window manager are you using ? Compiz or Kwin ? Try switching the window manager, maybe one of the two is wrongly configured. If that doesn't work, try playing around a bit with the advanced settings.

glClear() -> clears the buffer with the color you've set the line before. In other words, it just set the background color of your view (not the right terms to say, but easyest to understand )glLoadIdentity() -> it loads an identity matrix, it's what openGL uses to transform the 3D to 2D.glFlush() -> flushes the buffer (write everything to the video ram so it can be shown on the screen)glutInit (&argc, argv) -> initialization for openGL, ignore this, if it works, don't touch it :DglutInitDisplayMode (GLUT_SINGLE) -> Google GLUT_SINGLE, it'll explain what it doesglutDisplayFunc (display) -> loads the function display() which configures your openGL viewglutMainLoop() -> tells openGL that this is the main loop. openGL loops through a single function all the time, you'll understand it when you start coding objects that move

Now that we're talking about mistakes. Usualy a string is places between " " , unless hello is a previously defined variable. So it should probably be echo "hello"or string hello = "Hello there";echo hello; But it all depends on which language/environment you're using
-
I second that. Javascript can't go any further than the user's browser and it's environment. Stuff like CPU, memory, etc... isn't accessible since browsers simply don't have access to this information (for privacy reasons and simply because it's not interesting to have this information in javascript). //edit: other languages like Java, Flash and Silverlight do have access to this information
