  1. It's true that it can cause a lot of problems. Some AV programs block all access to a file when it detects a virus untill you decide what you want to do with this file. However, if the 2 try the block the access to the file at the same time, things might get troublesome.

  3. I've been using Avast for years now. It's not the best in detecting viruses but it's much more pleasant to work with compared to Anti-vir or AVG ... (and I usualy don't get a lot of viruses so I don't realy care about it's detection rate )
  4. Your Service provider : FullADSLLocation : BelgiumPlan Details : no idea ... their plans change, don't know if we get upgraded and my father deals with the internet connectionUp speed : 420kDown speed : 3.34MPromised : according to their site 12/20Mb down, 512k/1M upReceived : see above ...Satisfied : I'm very satisfied, the internet connection is stable. We probable don't get what they promised, but even the more expensive ISP providers didn't give us anything better than 3.5Mbps ... so our speed is probably limited by the distance from the streetcabinet (according to a GEO IP tool, it's about 10km away from my house, which is quite impossible ...)
  5. I don't think that having used the brand before is going to help, the used interface differs a lot from the regular mobile phones so whatever phone you get ... it'll be a complete new experience
  6. That my biggest problem ... I DO have the room to store this junk . Few weeks ago I had 3 CRT screens, 4 printers, some PSUs, lots of old HDDs, 2 pda's, 2 19" switches, some cd-players, some older crap and even more older crap in my storage . I probably have enough junk to build 2-3 computers, a DX486, a PII and a PIII , the only thing that would be missing is a case for those pcs . I threw away 1 printer, 1 CRT screen and I'm now using the 690c till it's (full) cartridge is empty (or the printer dies... which can't take a long time anymore ).
  7. If you don't understand it, it means you don't need it and apps like Irfanview are what you need. The GIMP becomes usefull compared to other application when you need to work with layers (like putting some images on top of each other and still being able to edit every image apart). @TavoxPeru: Faststone has some great applications, I use both MaxView (image viewer, much faster than windows preview and has some basic color adjustments + it works with RAW images) and ImageResizer (batch image resizing, cropping, adjusting (very basic), watermarking, ...). Both are free and work excelent !
  8. pfff, tough choice... I currently have an iPaq 614c with windows mobile and even tough the OS sucks, it also rules. There are a lot of free application available and it's absolutely not as commercial as the iPhone where you have to pay for the even the most stupid applications. The Palm Pre OS looks nice, but there are probably hardly any applications available for it so I'll pass that one. Both the Nokia and the SE look appealing, but I'm not a fan of the 'closed' ,prop OS (windows is hackable because you can access the system files, that's what I like about windows mobile ^^ ) . It'll probably be one of those two (if I had no other options and a lot of money )
  9. I have absolutely no idea, I've been working with this toner for a few years now . @xboxrulez: I recently found a 720c in my storage, I must say ... it sucks . I also had a 690c and a 890c in my storage. I had to kick the hell out of the 690c before it stopped acting up and I think I bend the cartridge bar and now it's make a horrible sound, it's prints are crooked and it spits ink... but it still works. I've actualy kicked (and thrown around) a lot of old HP printers and I must say ... they are indestructable !!!
  10. Things have changed a bit lately:Windows XP SP3:Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall (still the best for outbound protection)Anti-virus: Avast Home editionSpyware: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Avenger, Helios Lite, RootkitrevealerBrowser: OperaOther: HOSTS file and CCleanerWindows Seven RC1:Firewall: Comodo Personal Firewall Pro + Windows FirewallAnti-virus: AVG (it's the only free A/V that currently works on Seven, and it sucks)Spyware: Windows Defender (read: nothing)Browser: mainly Opera, something IE8Other: HOSTS file and CcleaneropenSuse 11.1:Firewall: iptablesAnti-virus: noneSpyware: noneBrowser: OperaOther: HOSTS file
  11. It's not extactly true that the GIMP can do everything that Photoshop can, it's for example not possible to apply effects to layers as a mask (non destructive way of adding effects). Photoshop is also a lot more powerfull, supporting nvidia CUDA to speed up things by using the shaders from the graphics card(s).Even tough it's definitly not as powerfull and enhanced as photoshop, it's still a nice and free (!) program for editing photos.
  12. I don't agree with what you say. Robots (computers) are the dumbest things that exist, the only thing they can do is do some calculations and that's it. The best way example to proove that humans are still a lot more intelligent than robots can be found in the imaging sector. We as humans can recognize almost everything in a picture, humans, animals, tables, clothings ... whereas a robot can only vaguely recognize a face when it's pointed in a certain direction. Not only is it hard for a machine to detect objects in a picture, it also requires a lot of processing power to process images having the same quality as the HVS. The Deep Blue is maybe a better example, it won because it's a million dollar machine, it consumes kilowatts of power and in the end it's logic is limited to what WE learn it.
  13. I have an HP Laserjet4L in my room. It's utterly slow, but it prints and because it's such an incredibly simple printer it works on any os. Only downside is that it's not a USB printer .
  14. C'mon, remain a bit serious please and give it a try before you start bashing M$ again.
  15. You mean uncapping as in "removing the speed limits that my ISP has given me" ? Afaik that is impossible, even if you start hacking your modem using a JTAG cable (looks like the Blackcat cable is a JTAG cable), the speed limits are regulated by the ISP at the ISP side. If you want to uncap you'll have to hack your ISP first :o//edit: also worth mentioning is that uncapping, if possible, wouldn't always yield positive results. There are physical limits that limit the available bandwith, trying to go over this limit might result in a lower bandwith efficiency because of the higher packet loss
  16. waw, does it still exist ? I had an Hi5 account years and years ago, but I stopped using it because nobody else used it (and since then I never joined one of those crappy communicty sites anymore).
  17. First of all, the "virtual ram" you're talking about is not going to speed up your computer, in fact it slows down your pc because the hard disk drive is a lot slower compared to "real" RAM memory, access times are 10x to 50x slower and throughput is even 100-500x slower. There is no need the change the size of the pagefile because windows is managing it for you, you can do a lot more harm when changing the setting because if you set the upper limit to low and windows runs out of memory you will get a BSOD. @BHerath: wow, you've got to get a new virus scanner, my Avast/Sygate Firewall combination only uses 80Mb of memory . Another thing, I suggest not using one of those ram defraggers/cleaners. All they do is moving data from the faster RAM to the slower pagefile (as told before). In fact you're slowing down your pc because now windows has to access the disk first more than usual. They are only usefull when you're using application that suffer from serious memory leaks.
  18. damn, if only I remembered these two rules Never been good at solving those equations (the only I can tell you is that x must be between -2 en 0 ).If you could give me a quick recap of the two formulas then I'll give it a try
  19. what the ????I suggest you read the rules first. If you copy-paste anything from another website you must place it between quotes and refer to the source. I also don't know where you got this, but GSM has absolutely nothing to do with webdesign, even tough it's mentioned in the text, there still is no link between GSM and webdesign (except if it's webdesign for WAP or Mobile browsers)
  20. hehe, funny, it's a windows95 application . Surprised it works in Vista
  21. Start with a piece of paper and start writing down everything you want in this protocol, maybe you can even put it in a diagram or something like that. Try to be clear tough because you'll need this information. With this information you'll have to design the messages you want to send between server and client (and vice versa). These messages can be bytestreams, SOAP messages, ... But make sure they are a bit versatile (it's most efficient if all message headers have the same length). Next thing on the list is writing a server and a client, the server listening on a port and the client sending your protocol messages to the server. That the scenario in short
  22. We're developping in Windows, but our assignment has changed (again). They've decided we have to build a Google Sketchup add-in and export the map as SVG and Collada file. Thanks anyway
  23. So you're looking for a non Mac webserver that runs from the MacOS X terminal
  24. They all look nice Tough I have a few small remarks. http://www.disturbedmb.com/ The large banner you use is a bit too bright compared to the rest of the site. Also, I notice a lot of JPEG artifacts in the banner background (I always spot jpeg artifacts, I hate them ). The rest of the site looks good, I also like the green bars on the top and bottom of the page, maybe you can reuse them in the menu buttons on top (eg. on mouseover). I'd also change the default e107 favicon http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The ATR banner (the small one) on top is ... small . Either resize it so it has the same width as the wrapper, or add a border to it. http://southlandforum.com/ Well, it looks like a forum , it's nothing special, but it works
