  1. Looks like generic myspace insults, I moreso feel like pointing out the fact that you posted it ON myspace, meaning you goto/use/have a profile for/whatever myspace... to me thats ironic and hypocritical so I got more enjoyment out of that... I could probably think up funnier insults against myspace in my sleep then that page weak stuff.P.S. - This is't me defending myspace, I despise the page, the linked page was just boring
  2. Chesso, try using LIon rechargeable batteries if you aren't already, they last waaaaaay longer in electronics then most alkaline batteries do plus you can recharge them (obviously) so that's always a plus. They're more investment money wise for the charger and the batteries cost a little more, but well worth it.And yea SD card readers are common and super cheap so that shouldn't pose a problem for you to get one and use it like a usb drive to move data.
  3. Myspace is the reason I hated most of these social networking sites for such a long time. I finally broke down and got onto facebook, but only because virtually everyone I know uses it. Frankly they have a lot of positive things going for them, and facebook in particular is pretty well controlled. Myspace, in my opinion, should be shut down. The pages are god awful ugly, the ability to auto play music, movies, etc on loading a page is ridiculous. The moving backgrounds so many people have are nausea educing... etc. Myspace has some good points, and it paved the way for the others, but yea, I still hate it and think it should be destroyed. My retinas have been burned on way too many myspace pages. That said, facebook controls the pages, keeps them fairly uniform, and until the advent of facebook apps, was avoiding stupidity. Now its going downhill a bit but the apps also allow for some pretty ingenious additions so thats cool. I haven't seen much of the others but they didn't seem to offer anything worth nothing really, just basic myspace ripoffs. So yes, personally I dont overly like any of them, of those listed I prefer facebook mostly for social reasons, myspace is disgusting 9 times out of 10, and the others are irrelevant
  4. You make a few statements that aren't really wrong, but off base heh. I mean, it is sort of like the virus/antivirus thing but at the same time its quite different. Firstly you have to decide which level of encryption we are talking here, there are encryption algorithms that have existed for awhile that are currently not even in the realm of possibility to be cracked by anyone or anything that lacks government sized resources. That said if we're talking cracking lower end encryption routines then sure, it would make sense if you use more hardware and more processing power then you'd rip through encryption faster but thats the same as saying if we strap 20 processors onto cracking an encryption routine it'll happen exponentially faster.I like the idea of using more hardware more efficiently but this just seems odd, anything your own home computer could crack relistically shouldn't be something that needs to happen super fast. I mean, if you are cracking enough encryption routines at home that this is beneficial to you... you are prooobably doing something a little shady.
  5. If you want to use linux, especially for something like a server, you REALLY should take the time to learn the very basics of the command line. 20-30minutes can leave you with a base understanding of how to navigate and pull off basic tasks using the command line so in the incident that something of that nature occurs you are not up the creek without a paddle so to speak. Further once you know the command line you probably will actually enjoy using it for various things
  6. Yea, if you have multiple computers connected to a single router, and that router has some type of connection to the external internet, then you should be able to have internet access to all computers on that router, as well as have a LAN set up internally without any problem whatsoever. If you DO have two routers connected together for some reason, lose one and make sure your internet account info is entered properly and see if that helps.
  7. Agreed, hiding processes, reg editing especially, etc is just vile without user permission. If you want to feel all tough go pick on a baby or something and leave the end users alone haha, they are the people who pay programmers to do what they do ;)But yea, I wouldn't recommend doing this ever, just make programs that don't crash so people never need to look for the process in the task list
  8. Personally anytime I make websites over the last few years or more recent I use 1024x768 as an assumed average, but make sure it doesn't look like crap on 800x600 since some still use it. I also almost always use relative width's so that there isn't a bunch of empty space on people with higher resolutions since really 1024x768 isn't even close to what a lot of people run at.So yes, my recommendation would be to use relative width's (usually layouts are pretty easy to pick and choose percents that fill the whole page and leave all pieces about the size you want) and just ensure that you play with your resolution and try it at 800x600 and up, making sure none look TOO bad, but aim for 1024x768 as a primary target.Really its up to you as the designer, but making a site accessible to the max people possible without punishing people for using a higher resolution is always a good practice to follow.
  9. Hahaha I was just trying to be polite and not point that out, I assume just a grammatical/translation mistake
  10. Well it sounds like those programs will make an automated index of any file structure, so a local file system as well. That said it still seems to be lost on me why you'd need this but I'm sure it's useful in some way or another. Sure it's easy to look in explorer or whatnot to see your files or on the index of your web host but if you wanted to have a documented list f all the files in a certain directory or whatnot this could be helpful. I guess making an index of music files could be made easy work of with such a tool. That said there are usually other methods of having a similar outcome...So yes, I'm sure they do the intended job well but past that I'm having a hard time imagining why I would actually want to have one on my computer. Maybe someone could shed some light on it.
  11. I assume there are demo versions of each to try before you buy since these types of image editor software packages are often quite pricey. That said of the two I am not surprised about photoshop but corel draw being claimed the second most popular is a big shock to me. While what I've seen of it implies it is indeed a solid product it doesn't hold a candle to photoshop in capabilities or effectiveness.Does anyone here use corel draw? I've only used it briefly as a test once, but I'd be interested to see if anyone uses it a lot and loves it or prefers it over PS.
  12. Hahaha I agree, I usually can foresee the end but didn't see that coming, funny funny stuff!
  13. So I need to ask, even though if my guess is correct I assume he won't be back on the boards anytime soon... what class was that for? ;)I love how such simple programs can take 100% cpu usage. I mean from a technical viewpoint it makes perfect sense (if nothing else needs the extra cpu cycles they devote it all to something that does need it, even if all the program is doing is adding infinitly to an increment variable) but from a non-technical viewpoint it still amuses me haha.
  14. I would imagine the parental controls have varying levels you can set them to and in your case your parents must have ramped them up pretty high :| Image hosting places are actually commonly blocked in places and I've seen google images also blocked in some places... and by places I mean corporate firewalls that block their users from reaching certain sites. These places are known for easy access to adult images and sites without actually going to these sites so there IS some logic behind blocking them out. That said, it sucks to have them blocked especially on a home rig so frankly if your parents don't actually watch over you whilst you surf just fire into the control panel and see if you can disable them.If the people at M$ were thinking at all it'll require a password since most kids out-learn their parents in the computer arena pretty quickly. Google can probably lead you to a way to disable it without the password I'd be willing to bet haha.Regardless good luck with that, windows is enough of a system nazis without having parental controls pumped to such a high level. And hell, if that doesn't work just partition off a bit of space, install linux, and dual boot the system and tell your parents you cant look at porn in linux
  15. Haha I don't even feel right voting for my own site since it hasn't been updated in months and even then there is barely anything on it. Me and the buddy I run it with have all these cool ideas but I'm busy with school and he's busy trying to apply to med schools so the site's kinda stagnated... but I'll have to keep my credits up to avoid dropping off the list of working sites haha
  16. A second option is to always just leave your account to expire on its own, if you already have a hard time keeping credits to allow your site to remain hosted you can just stop posting and it'll get cancelled out on it's own quickly enough ;)But yea, the formal way is to use the link provided by Jimmy
  17. Quick off topic - Many people have installed ubuntu, and other, linux systems with literally no problems ;)Back on topic, that was hilarious haha. I love those geeky jokes where people make interesting analogies between well none softwares/companies and some other entities we can all relate to haha. WOO!
  18. I'm torn on issues like this... on the one hand it's rediculous from a logical stand point. Once you sell your product (the phone) that should be their major concern... they are selling more by having people outside the US buy them and unlock them then they would otherwise so I don't see why they would handle it in such a fashion. On the other hand it still IS the choice they made and as mentioned is probably detailed to be against the contract signed when buying the phone, so is well within their rights per se. Frankly my opinion is I think it's a *BLEEP* thing to do but not really 'wrong' just *BLEEP*ish
  19. I was intrigued when I first heard about it, since theres some potential but I'm withholding judgment. Basically I'm going to wait and see what happens with them as far as third party stuff... they seem to have a lot of potential for fun little homebrew style softwares so I figured if theres anything that catches my eye in that department it might be worthwhile getting one but otherwise I'll be saving my money for various other stupid things I could spend it on like girls and booze.I'm not one to go psycho for apple products that come out, I've never owned any iPod but they've always seemed to be decent when I've used my friends'. That said I'd never buy one when they first come out, like all tech waiting for the price drop makes them much more worthwhile.
  20. Something that is worth noting is that you can't take a computer of a certain power, install newer and newer OS's, and expect similar results to previous versions. They release new versions of windows to implement new technologies that (as one would imagine) take more powerful systems to run. This also leads to more things needing to be tested, checked, set up, loaded, and run upon booting a system which all leads to a greater system boot time.Basically what I'm saying is, even on a freshly installed perfectly defragmented system, you'll always have a certain amount of time that the system takes to boot regardless of what you do. Past this installing lighter operating systems is really the only option if it is that important to you.
  21. I know a ton of people who run some pretty serious software and hardware on vista and love it. Others hate it. Similarly I know alot that love macs and alot that hate macs. Hardware and operating systems will be a battle that is probably never ending as long as we're given the choice especially since people like a variety of things. Windows, *nix, MacOS, all of them have pros and cons regardless of what you want to admit. Windows has more commercially supported software, *nix has more power and flexibility, macos does what it does very well, but has some limits in the realm of software variety.
  22. I too lack a 360 and I'm not as huge into halo as alot of people, that said attendance in all my CS courses was down a bit from the normal today because of that game hahaha. I know a lot of people that won't be leaving their homes much for a week or two so they can max the time spent with the latest 360 gem.I personally will never go to a midnight release for a videogame, frankly it's not worth it to play a game a few hours earlier then others. That said I hope if you went it was fun haha.
  23. This doesn't surprise me, it actually seems like something I would have expected earlier to have happened. Even if they can't convict based on the data collected from such an experiment I'm sure they could use it in a round about way to eventually lead to a conviction. "randomly" monitoring the ips they collected or something. I'm not a law expert by any means so I don't know how entrapment laws work but I'm glad they exist. This is ridiculous. If they want to solve the piracy problem they need to think smart not just declare covert marshal law on the internet.
  24. Uhm, every single generation consoles get overpowered by computers before the next gen of consoles come out. That said they wont have emulators out before the PS4 haha. It's just a matter of complexity. Emulating the cell architecture on a traditional pc would be murder. This is why now psx emulators are doable, but ps2 work pretty shitily haha. They still haven't finished working on ps2 emulation and the cell is exponentially more difficult and more complex. Let alone, as mentioned that the hardware required to run such an emulator would be off the charts for the time being.
  25. Bioshock is officially in strong contention in my mind for the best game of all time.I originally assumed I wouldn't buy it now. My system cannot run it with DX10 features and whatnot, hell it can only run it on medium settings smoothly. That said, I had planned to wait for my next computer. I tried to demo for fun to see how it ran and the sheer beauty that it produced while running smooth as silk (even though it was nowhere near the best visual quality) sold me immediately. Further, the gameplay just felt "right" from the moment I jumped into the demo. I didn't even finish the demo before uninstalling it and going to purchase a retail copy.As soon as I installed and started playing the full version it was amazing. While I haven't finished the game yet I've put in many hours but am trying to take my time to soak up the fun The story is amazing, the characters rich, the elements of gameplay are great and they keeping adding more as you go to keep gameplay fresh, and more importantly the sheer immersiveness of the environment is undeniably amazing. The game is art in videogame form. From the actual game environment itself, to the interface, to in-game machines that simply "Feel" like they could be from this alternative early 1960's world. From the onion-like way you continually learn more about the world and uncover new gameplay elements to the sheer gorgeousness of the world and the fluid way the various mechanics flow together, there is nothing I would want to change about the game except for me to have a better computer to run it on. I know this sounds fanboyish but frankly I don't care, they accomplished there goal perfectly on this one.
