As far as I know it is not only for mods, I just don't think alot of people use it. I know a couple years back it got relatively popular for awhile and there was usually a handful of people in there at any given time, but since then it's tapered off again and lost its popularity so if there isn't people in it that's likely the reason, not that its mod only

If you like simulation style games this is one of the great FPS's on the market in my opinion. It does a fantastic job of taking the SWAT style of police work and converting it into a videogame world. By encouraging players to not only achieve the basic mission goals but also to follow the rules of the SWAT teams and to be careful and tactical in how you behave it adds a new level to the game. Personally I loved SWAT 4 when I played through it and couldn't get enough of it. The versatility of taking multiple routes through missions by choosing different entry points to using different tactics to enter the areas of the stage to even simply the random feel to where enemies are and how many are in each area, the whole game just begs to be played more then once, or at least to try different tactics when missions don't go smoothly on the first try or two.All in all, a great game for anyone that loves FPS's that make you actually think rather then just run and gun.

I agree about the interface, I'm not sure why but it takes me longer then it should to adjust to it. Personally I'm fine with firefox so haven't given IE7 alot of time, admittedly, but on campus the computers are mostly switched to IE7 so I get a decent amount of time using it and frankly it just feels to me like they tried to add the features people love about firefox on top of the old IE body. This isn't to imply that's a bad thing since firefox obviously does a lot of things right, I just wish IE7 felt fresher with more unique features in its arsenal, rather then an update that feels like it should have already been the standard for a couple years.

Greenfish Icon Editor Pro A great FREE icon editor
Jeigh1405241495 replied to PerHapsYouSeen's topic in Software
I've never really used an icon editor that I liked. They are usually just neutered versions of more full fledged programs and of the ones I've seen they have usually just been hoping to use trialware to hook you then get you to pay out for the full version, which would rarely be worth it seeing as there are high quality freeware capable of much more.Even if its freeware, just use paint haha -
I've only used solaris briefly over the years and it is indeed an interesting OS. I would agree that it's not wonderful for a single user desktop system probably but I know for servers it does have some great things to offer. I'm glad to see it is still around and still in use and hope it sticks around. As far as the desktop debate for linux choices, I usually stick to ubuntu but I haven't used any new distros this past 8-12 months sooo, yea haha.

I'm not surprised at all by this. Google has been and is continuing to take every service offered online that they can get their hands on and make their best attempt to improve on the previous examples. As far as I'm concerned as long as google keeps things free, high quality, and easy to use I say more power to em. I'm interested to see if they can get this idea to gain enough strength to take on wikipedia but either way it'll be a useful tool.

As far as I know (I may be wrong, I don't do a lot of javascript work) there are not true 2d arrays in javascript. You can, however, declare one array and then declare elements within that array as arrays which in effect is a multi-dimensional array. The site at http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/twoarray1.shtml can show you an example and I found a bunch more just by quickly googling for '2d arrays in javascript'. It will likely take some playing around but if its important to your design I'm sure you can get something working that will be equivalent to having a 2 dimensional array.

Alot of people seem worried about this, especially thinking that Activision will basically use blizzard as a cash cow and take advantage of their IPs but personally I see it as a great occurrence. Personally I've been worried the last few years about the behemoth known as EA since they are becoming way too huge and are putting out alot of great games, but alot of shoddy remakes and rehashed sequels too. Frankly if companies are going to merge and become super powers of the gaming industry their needs to be more then one so that the competition factor stays in tact and we can continue to see competition produce the highest quality products. So all in all, I'm behind the merger Also I agree, those two companies can't really be hurt by joining I dont think. I also imagine activision is smart enough not to mess with blizzard too much... they haven't released a non-amazingly well received product in longer then I can recall off hand so obviously they know what they are doing. Activision is unlikely to break a guaranteed source of continual income.

Cyber Sale Monday What did you guys buy one Cyber Sale Monday
Jeigh1405241495 replied to kgd2006's topic in Software
I've never heard of this 'cyber sale monday' :| I assume its just a huge well known day to have mega sales online on tech stuff after black friday? Weird that I didn't know about it haha, maybe I did and forgot, who knows. Either way I'm broke so I guess it wouldn't affect me =( Cool that you got lots of goodies though -
Personally I too just follow the spam account method. I sign up for alot of stuff with my main gmail account but the spam filters on it work wondrously, maaaaybe 2 spam emails have ever slipped through and as far as I know I've never had an email incorrectly marked as spam. That said I do use the spam account to sign up for things on sites that are painfully sketchy looking, but for anything that looks even semi-legit I just goto town and hope for the best and it hasn't been a huge problem yet.Use an email system with decent spam controls and you shouldn't have to worry too badly

Crysis Review The Good, the Bad, and the WTF
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Herbert1405241469's topic in Computer Gaming
My comments will be undirected at your review simply as I haven't played very far into the game yet so don't want to ruin anything for me even though I'm sure you tried to avoid big spoilers in your text.My computer can barely handle this game, so that hurts haha. From a tech standpoint its amazing however and even from simple game concepts I found alot I enjoyed. Being able to mow trees down with gun fire, the powers provided add a nice gameplay variability, and being able to tweak weapons is a nice touch. Various other small goodies are noticed as you rip through the early game. That said I am not overly impressed but not disappointed. I knew it wouldn't be a game that would revolutionize the industry but simply does what it does well, be a fun tech demo. Personally I enjoy playing the game, the story seems like it could turn out alright (I'm not far enough to be too deep into it) and some of the unusual parts seem creative and thats something that always wins bonus points with me.So to sum up, my first impressions are if you thought you wanted to play it, and if your system can run it, give the demo a try and see if its fun. Its a very solidly put together shooter, just wont blow your mind. -
The Memory Technology the future (hopefully)
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Ronel's topic in Science and Technology
I agree. Diskettes won't come back, it wouldn't make sense to have two primary types of portable storage. I mean, even blueray vs hd-dvd is going to eventually lead to one dieing out completely. Beta max anyone? lol. Media formats rarely live if they directly compete with another as a standard usually forms that leads the pack.CDs of 5 gigs, as mentioned, is no problem. Based on the technology true cds simply CANT get that big but dvd's and hddvd etc already have gigs+ of storage so that is simply a reality not something to predict. Similarly HDs, again as mentioned, broke the terabyte limit. I actually almost bought a terabyte drive a month or so ago and they are simply becoming more and more readily available. I wouldn't be surprised to see even bigger models by Christmas or early next year.I like the RAM increase idea but that leads to other problems tech wise too, unlike storage memory RAM needs to be able to actually access it all at speeds that warrants having it, so putting 100 gigs of ram on a motherboard would be hilariously cool to tell people about, but having memory busses that would take hours to fill it up simply wouldn't make the ram worth having. Obviously they keep increasing all the speeds of ram (access and write and etc) but it'll remain a slower process then the increases in HD speed at least for the time being. With hard drives they can worry about speeding the interface up later and just keep fitting more and more data on them since read/write times, while important to some extent, simply doesn't impact performance like RAM would.Toby, why mention cryptology in relation to big ram? I assume it would help but the processor is the primary bottleneck on cracking complex encryption algorithms, not lack of ram... unless I'm mistaken. -
Just to reiterate, go for the 30 if you think you'll want it. It won't take you much extra time and really is worth it since its such a small extra effort for a substantial boost in package contents. As long as your posting at a solid rate and your posts have decent content you'll hit 30 in no time and have no trouble keeping your account active with credits after that.

One thing to note is that a lot of the other currencies are not actually skyrocketing. The US dollar is the primary cause of the changes because it is falling a lot. Sure, the Canadian dollar is rising t some extent but it is not causing the majority of the variance in dollar values which is why other countries also seem to be 'skyrocketing'. The US dollar has simply been a cornerstone for so long that shifts in relation to it usually are considered to occur on the side of the other countries and not the US itself. That said I've seen it affecting alot of people too. US companies are unwilling to deal with Canadian companies in certain respects to avoid the use of the higher canadian dollar, some american retailers wont sell products for canadian coinage, etc. Canadian companies are having trouble selling to american companies so they need to reduce workers. It's impressive the power the economy of other nations has around the globe.

You won't be able to make a 3d mmorpg that looks great without either learning some 3d modeling skills OR stealing the models haha. Also mmorpg's are complicated as crap, I doubt there are any makers for them that work at all, and if they do they probably suck. PLUS you would need servers to host the game on so that people could play it. The flexibility of mmo's also probably would make coding knowledge essential to creating them. It's not like rpg maker where you just add a story to some sprites, mmo's are on a whole different playing field and require a lot more back end work to occur and a much larger infrastructure to actually be operational. So yes, its possible such a program exist but my recommendation is... don't get your hopes up

Group For Computinghost Hosted Members? Is there one?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to .:Brian:.'s topic in Web Hosting Support
I doubt that will happen, seems pointless to make special groups for special cases I mean the group label doesn't really change much of anything so it shouldn't affect you much... they might be willing to do it but it seems unlikely to me. -
Yea, its great that you are playing with image editors and especially stuff like this probably got you into learning how some interesting tools work. only problem is how, like mentioned, patterned wallpapers aren't used much anymore for a reason That would give me a headache after awhile lol, not because of the quality or anything, just the pattern would mess my eyes after awhile. I'd really recommend trying to make more, try some maybe bigger pattern effects cool behind some kind of logo or primary image (by bigger pattern I mean more like halos off a light spot or something, nothing too 'busy) and just keep practicing Obviously your first try is never the best work you can produce, so let practice make it perfect!

I agree on joomla, I've used a handful of others (free ones, that is) but none of them compared in the end in my opinion. Some had more flexibility and some had a higher user friendliness level, but joomla hit a perfect blend in my opinion that made it a great choice. Really if you go with any of the commonly known ones I cant imagine it posing a problem, but if you want my recommendation its joomla all the way.

If you care that much about performance by the time you upgrade your whole system it'll be obsolete anyways so really it wont hurt that much. You can get pretty decent AGP cards for like 100 bucks that pack a solid punch and it really wouldn't pose a problem to replace it later down the road. I know I picked up an ati 1650 pro for like 80 bucks and it can handle most games out there right now if you dont plan to play them maxed out.But yea, really right now I'd say just go for the most recent card you can find for under 100 and you're probably going to be ok, there are some pretty expensive agp cards still offered but any above 100 aren't very cost effective

I had never really thought about that, which is odd since I'm usually the first to get curious about inconsistencies like that and look it up haha. Interesting to read about... it's funny that more people aren't thrown by that when going to buy ink and wondering why such a weird combo of colors was chosen (CYMK) haha

Smiley Central Is it spyware?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to saxsux's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Smiley central is the most annoying thing I've seen in ages. I have a handful of friends that use it seemingly problem free, but they are too computer illiterate to know where their problems come from so it doesn't surprise me. The advertising is annoying, having people try to get you to get it is annoying, knowing its full of spyware is annoying, and yet people download it and they probably rake in a mint with it. Sometimes the internet makes me cry -
I'm not a huge sig designer, but I assume people might need a bit more information, like what the sigs are going to be used for/in. Kind of hard to make anything of quality just guessing what they are supposed to contain in them.

Suse Linux Problem after download finish problem
Jeigh1405241495 replied to joe.k's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I never even thought of the ram issue for X, that would seem really likely. I just guessed the video option as it seemed possible with the age of the lappy, not sure if they hand standard video solutions for them at that time or not. But yea, ram seems more likely -
Suse Linux Problem after download finish problem
Jeigh1405241495 replied to joe.k's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It could have been a graphics issue. Sounds like your laptop is pretty old from the specs so the video might be some old obscure onboard card. Do you know what kind it is? Might be worth checking suse forums for if there are known computability issues.I imagine downloading a 64 bit version could pose a problem but if you are sure you have the 32 bit that would be the version you would need, again old system so not a 64 bit.Maybe check suse forums for posts from people with a similar laptop model and see if they had any issues? If not, you could always try another linux distro and try one with a live cd release so you can test if they'll run prior to installing the OS itself. This would save alot of time if there is another issue besides a single suse related issue.
