Hiding Files And Folders.... Two methods to do it
austiniskoge replied to abhiram's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah, that's been around. Thanks for posting it though. You can also right click, go to properties, and then check the box marked 'Hidden' or something.I used to do that. But you can just make different usernames for the machine, and make yourself the admin. That lets you restrict opening certain folders and such. Good for kid brothers (I know.) -
If you want yourname.astahost.com to become, say, yourname.cjb.net, yeah... I do that. I'm pretty sure it's allowed. Why not?

Create A Virtual Turd Wow...
austiniskoge replied to darkranger's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Wow.I wonder what's going on with those people's brainwaves. They're probably off the normal scale :unsure:Definitely some weird stuff. I could never waste time and money on that sort of thing... although they probably get millions of hits...Hmm. Sounds like a sound investment! -
Well this program seems detailed and resourceful. However...Isn't it a pain to run that weird "mainframe/framework/whatever" on your computer?Seems like it would be a lot of extra baggage on your CPU traffic, not to mention take up a good chunk of space. That's what my friend said, anyway. Who knows, maybe it's not so bad.

Ah, that's too bad. What else is too bad is I thought this thread was solutions for machines with no USB port. I know there probably aren't any, but it was worth a click. My old machine has some programs that I want to put on a flash drive, but no luck without any USB ports. No CD-R drive either, and I'm not about to install one. It's a trash machine basically, can't even shut down properly.Oh well.

FTP Or File Manager - Which Is Better? Which is better?
austiniskoge replied to evion's topic in Websites and Web Designing
See if web2ftp.com has what you need.I'm not sure if I know what you're asking, but that's the website I recommend to everyone. It's web-based, meaning no possible insecure programs or anything. Not that those other services ARE insecure, just that I think uploads like Web2ftp are safer in principle. -
One Comp. Two Monitors? Anyone know how?
austiniskoge replied to CyberReaper1405241516's topic in Hardware Workshop
Eh, I have no idea. But I saw it on some video. Maybe it was a banner on a website.Sounds cool. Maybe put a clip of it on YouTube for us to see? -
Well, I love simple programs. Sure, there's a niche and a need at times for heftier things like Photoshop and Paint.net (which requires you to run that frame thing... )But when I want to do transparency real fast, nothing- NOTHING beats Photo Editor.BTW, watch out for corrupted downloads and the like. I've got several downloads where the program can't properly associate the .dll files. Really annoying.
-
Yeah, I have seen people get their hosting dropped for this, not to mention numerous Myspace and Xanga accounts deleted for the same reason. There are always situations similar to this. It's pretty annoying...

The Mentos And Diet Coke Reaction
austiniskoge replied to Darkwolf11235's topic in Science and Technology
I suggest you search the forum for "mentos and coke" or something of that nature. There is a previous thread that goes into detail about this, and I posted the link to the video. -
Definitely Limewire. It's really fast, most of the downloads are on a T1 or T3 connection... The files are sometimes five or ten seconds short, but hey- that's what I get for using P2P instead of buying music It's overall good, also has lots of video (too much pr0n) and different file formats like mp3, wma, etc. plenty of goodies- even smaller bands have some tracks on there. Good pickings for anyone who needs some new tunes. I usually just use it for individual songs, and support the conglomerate monster of an industry by buying CDs. haha- that's how I roll.

Music And MySpace Uploading your files here
austiniskoge replied to stanwickglen's topic in Websites and Web Designing
And I love you guys for that. I've got ten songs for download at my band's site. Too bad I've barely got any visitors... but when I do get some, I'll be pushing the bandwidth limit Thanks Xisto! -
Video Editing Software Is there one that will edit frames
austiniskoge replied to jackpinerepublic's topic in Software
Yeah, Movie Maker is good to a certain point. Not professional by a long shot... but good enough to make cool little movies and stuff. If you just want a little commercial, video tutorial, or something like that to put up on your site, Movie Maker is your man. Otherwise, you should definitely look into other options. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to that yet. -
Yeah, iTunes is good for everybody. iPod owners/users: You can rip cd's quickly and don't have to worry about loading your iPod after ripping (it's automatic). everybody else: You can choose the option of ripping in mp3. Also you can set it to automatically name all the ID3 tags with the same Album Name and Artist if you like. Saves about 10 minutes, not bad. I'm a big fan of iTunes. Got converted from Media Player...

Some Cute Banners Astahost Rocks
austiniskoge replied to speedy's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Or you can use the format that most everyone uses for transparency: GIF. To do transparent backgrounds and colors, use Microsoft Photo Editor (included in Windows 97, available for download elsewhere). Really simple. -
I love iTunes! I don't have an iPod, but I just have it save my files as mp3.It organizes your songs and videos so well! It's simple to the eye (WMP is way too busy for me) and is really easy to use! My little sister can barely use the internet to check her email (haha, she's 11- doesn't need email) but she loves playing around on my iTunes!Once I get my iPod, I'm gonna love iTunes even more. Really, it's great. I used to get all kinds of bugs on Media Player, but I used iTunes when I was borrowing someone's iPod, and I was instantly hooked! It's really the simplest program I use on my computer. But I use it every day, all day. Can't complain.

Here's my advice to you- Use web2ftp.com if you want a web-based FTP service. I had trouble with the built-in stuff too, so I googled "free web based FTP" and came up with web2ftp. It's really easy and simple. You can open and close and navigate really easy. Don't bother with cPanel for uploading and that kind of stuff. It's too slow and frustrating. Really, use that website. Here's a link. Go check it out! just try it once to see if you like it.

Okay, so I need Microsoft Photo Editor.I have WinXP, and all we get in XP is that crappy Photo Viewer or whatever...I want my Photo Editor back!I know it was packaged with Windows 97, and I've used it before. It's great for a quick edit of simple things like contrast, brightness, and even making transparent backgrounds. Unfortunately, they discontinued it for XP. That sounds like the stupidest thing ever to me.Anyways... where the heck can I get it? I read some dumb explanation on Microsoft's website, but that doesn't cut it for me. I want a program download or something.Help!

New Logo-banner For my website WiseTome.com
austiniskoge replied to Vyoma's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Yeah, that's really good! It's very appealing because it's so simple. There's only one color, and the lines aren't too harsh... no sharp corners...I love it!I'm sure that'll help you get lots of business. -
Geting A Domain Name need help never done this before
austiniskoge replied to BitShift's topic in Web Hosting Support
Well if you're not exactly looking for ".com" or ".net", you could use ".cjb.net".It's got some banners attached to it though...Just depends on what you prefer. I personally use cjb.net for my website. It's handy to make my url memorable. Kinda catchy, actually. -
