  1. Okay, here's a dilemma. I think I might know the answer, but I don't want to spend an hour trying to figure it out- I'll just wait for you guys to help me out I have a small hard drive- 13GB. It's definitely getting cramped with all my mp3s and Audacity files. I am always deleting old stuff like homework, pictures, games, etc. For example, I had two very large games that I ceased to play quite a while ago- deleted. Old pictures of those creepy kids that I used to hang out with- deleted. My essay on Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 - deleted. You get the picture. So, recently I was in Windows XP's "Add or Delete Programs" thing, and I was looking for programs I don't use. I ended up navigating to something called "Add/Remove Windows Processes" (or something similarly named). I checked boxes next to a couple of programs that I don't need, like IE and something else. It prompted me to reboot, so I did. When I logged back on, I was missing the speaker icon in the toolbox that controls the computer volume! You have to understand that this program is ESSENTIAL for the work I do (recording my band with Audacity). This program is simply invaluable to controlling the volume of line-in/microphone/line-out. Now it's gone, and I need it back! I will accept absolutely no substitutes... well, I take that back. If there's freeware that's equivalent or beyond in function and it's well suited for the job, I'll take it. Otherwise: How do I get it back?
  2. This will never end.I've had it at my school for years, and as time goes on, they keep adding more and more to the block list. Recently we got a new service- I'm not sure if it's still N2H2 or not, but it's called Smartfilter. It's even worse...In the past, I found some gems for bypassing the filter, but word eventually got around (and as you probably know, the more people using something, the faster it is detected.) It's really a pain. I don't believe in censorship this radical.Example: I tried to go to the PETA (animal rights group) website, where you can learn about the torture of animals by food corporations. This is education. It's the truth. Unfortunately, it was blocked by the pigheads at N2H2.All we can do is whine about this. There's no help if you can't arrange one of those proxies through a private computer.Oh well... misery loves company.
  3. This is great.Yeah, yeah, I'm doing something that they really ought to pay me for...But it's so addicting! Oh well, I'm done with it after about 15 straight minutes.Good time waster, though.
  4. OK guys seriously. If you are not using Gmail, you are either a. interested in other services for some obscure reason i.e. a fetish b. slightly sick in the head. i suggest that you at very least not pick Microsoft's email service. please don't give them the pleasure.
  5. Obviously you should buy it legally. There are, however, solid illegal methods of obtaining it.But just sit down with yourself and ponder the hours and resources it took to create such a program.
  6. I choose Bittersweet Dreams.1. It's English.2. It means something to most people in the US.3. It's neutral to non-animephiles.But I highly recommend you leave out the dash between the words. That is so outdated in my opinion.
  7. Yeah, but I need every MB i can get for my other projects... I don't want any extra junk. Audacity already plagues me with that.Plus, my internet computer is not my graphics/audio computer, which means I'd have to transfer the files to my other computer by flash drive... BIG pain.I might end up using this, but I'm on the lookout for something simpler.
  8. Dude, get your credits up.I wanted to see it again, but it's suspended.
  9. Wikis are (in theory) editable by anyone, or many people. There are all kinds. PB Wiki is one that has recently become more popular. When I started using it about 2 years ago, it was relatively small. Now lots of people have their own little PBWiki. Then, of course, there's Wikipedia. There's also a Homestar Runner wiki called HR Wiki. Wikipedia has an article about wikis here.
  10. Thanks! Yeah, I guess I could've done that too... haha. anyway. The one on Sourceforge looks pretty cool, but is definitely a beta version. Of course, I could always use a DIY way like this. I love those hidden things. Not that it's like an Easter Egg or something, just that nobody would've known except for someone who spread it around. -EDIT- Okay, I checked it out fully, and to run that FontForge thing, you need all kinds of Windows->Unix converting junk. I'm not even sure what... I just gave up after I read that. Still on the search!
  11. Is there a program out there that is similar in nature and features to Fontographer?I would like to make my own fonts and edit old ones... however, the software package that contains Fontographer is much too expensive for my budget...If there is an open source version (any kind of freeware, actually) of this program, please provide me with the link.I am becoming more and more despondent in my search. Thanks
  12. Hey guys, I can't wait for the feedback on my band's site! Here! Please visit it and look around... not too many pages, so it won't take long. Last time I got some really good feedback, so I'm anticipating this time! From last time, I've added content to all of the pages (many were blank), fixed the frame issues, modified the backgrounds, added more downloads, added a chatbox (chat away!), and several other things. It's pretty busy on the eyes... if you don't like it, please tell me! Any other comments are much appreciated. Thanks! -austin
  13. After getting others' feedback from this, I am thoroughly convinced. This is fabricated.Obviously, some programmer/admin/geek of South Asian descent thought it would be funny to have a little poke at MS...But I can't believe that such a high profile official of an ultra-high profile company would issue such an explicit (and hilarious) memo to his employees. Maybe on a joking basis... but it's still hard to believe.Hey m^e, where did you find this? Maybe that will give us a clue...
  14. Anyone ever heard of Myxer Tones? I know lots of people (at least here in the US) are really frustrated about cell phone ringtones- either the ones they want are much too expensive, or they want a cheap and easy way to put their own songs out there. I found the solution a few months ago, but just started actually using it. Myxer Tones lets you upload many types of audio files, including MP3, MP4, and others. It also lets you edit them for just the right selection of audio. Technically, you can only use songs you own, but you can actually use any old song you've got- bypassing the exorbitant ringtone fees these days (illegally ) You can download the song(s) for free. The only charge is the standard text messaging fee from your service provider. This service is awesome! I can't wait to put a million songs on there! After a while, you need more "credits" to do more ringtones, but there are ways around it. (Figure it out for yourself.) Happy ringing!
  15. That's the thing. What if I want my band's song in the database? How often would it be updated? Who could put their songs up there? How many languages and countries would be represented? How long would the song submission process take (if any existed)?Very complicated to get it down to a smooth system... and if it's not smooth, most people would have little interest in it.
  16. Go to YouTube or Photobucket and register for free member ship. Then upload your video on their Upload sections (two different services, both equally able). They will provide you with the HTML for the video, and you can post it anywhere that you edit HTML. The video is hosted free on their servers, and with YouTube your friends can view all your videos under your username. YouTube is incredibly popular and easy to use. The embed tag is cumbersome and often doesn't load or has similar problems.
  17. This one looks nice. The only thing is, some of the features are only available through paid membership... But still, it's cool. You may just see one on my site soon!
  18. Yes. Very true. I've used MS Frontpage, and the results are... ehh, okay. It's not worth the money, that's for sure. NVU is around the same quality for much less. Actually, for nothing. I'm sure if you want the best possible quality, one of those expensive ones like Dreamweaver is great. However, for my site I just use NVU (or MS Frontpage on computers at school). Great program.
  19. Definitely a cool idea, but it's one of those things where you just can't really use it yet...It needs to be developed. I'll leave that to you beta testers out there. And I wish you didn't need a web connection to do it. However, that would be a GIANT program file.Keep us posted!
  20. My art always starts with pen and paper. I feel that real art has to come from the hand, and not 100% computer. It's just heartless that way IMO.So, I'll lay down a cool little thing on paper with a rollerball pen, and then hi-res scan it. Next, it goes into Photoshop where I doctor it a little (not a lot, mostly colors and position yadda yadda) and voila, you have my simple style of art.I've always got some magazines by me for inspiration, and usually some music playing as well. Gotta get in the mood, you know? It's just different depending on my situation (who it's for, when I need it done, etc.)
  21. Well I didn't read through all of the technical junk, but can't you just drag and drop the folder with the right click button? That always works for me... unless it's something totally different... then sorry.
  22. Oh, man. This is incredible. :)I'm spreading this around. I know some people who would die laughing of this. This is a bit over the top, though. It's a bit personal for such a topic and such a corporation as Microsoft. I would think they would make it more conservative, maybe not actually spell out the language in question...Oh well, he made his point I guess.
  23. Yeah, there's plenty of people who can solve it. I once knew a guy who could solve a 3x3x3 cube in under a minute, no matter how hard I twisted it. Genius. It really depends on the number of cubes for each face. It goes from nine to about 16, I think.I'm pretty sure it's spelled "Rubik's Cube".
  24. Nice tutorial. Is that just one big JPEG? that's really cool.Haha, I should make all of my posts like that. Except sometimes they don't load... :)Still great, though.
  25. I don't know anything about your problem, but I just visited your site and you haven't put anything up. Or maybe you have, but the old index.html is still up.You really don't have to worry about little bugs in service until you've got something up
