That is too funny for words! For those that can't understand it, try saying the words out loud in a Scottish accent. It is the accent that makes it funnier. If it helps, I will try to translate for you, hope it's still as funny and PIPER-4-HIRE, please correct me if I get it wrong. The rhyme doesn't work as well and some of the words I can't translate, but I think you get the general idea.

File Backups from cpanel How to download and store using Dialup?
Avalon replied to Mich's topic in Web Hosting Support
Exactly, download the backup file to your computer. The point of having the backup is if the server's hard drive crashes, you then have a complete copy of your site you can upload. If you save the backup on the server and the hard drive crashes you won't be able to access the backup either. So it's kinda pointless to save it on the server really. It's like keeping archive copies of paper files "off site", the point here is if the building burns down, you will still have your archive files because they are kept off site. Makes perfect sense really. -
Here's my entry, good luck everyone.

This tutorial will show you how to make a simple, yet effective double layer tech border for a sig in Photoshop CS, (should be similar in earlier versions of PS). This uses some of my shortcuts, because I am basically a lazy person and will always look for the easiest way to do something. The main one in particular is the "Tech Borders" style file, attached here. Download the file now, then extract and save the file in to the "Presets > Styles" folder of your Photoshop folder. You will need to restart Photoshop, if you had it open, for the styles to appear in the list. First decide what size sig you want and the base size of your border, for this example I want the sig size to be 350px wide by 150px high with a 20px border. Create a new document the size you want and press Ctrl+A to select the entire canvas. Now go to "Edit > Stroke..." and set the controls like in the picture below. This will give you a 20px border as the base for your tech border as shown below. Now we have the 20px border we can start cutting sections out to give it that tech look. Do not make your cutouts any larger than 50% of the border thickness so we can do the double layer later. If you want close vertical lines like in the example below, here's an easy way to do it. Use the text tool with Arial font to type as many "|" (vertical bar) characters as you want, this will create a new layer. Turn off anti-aliasing for the text. Position the text on the sig where you want the bars and set it to the size you want. With the text layer selected, now use the magic wand, (with anti-aliasing turned off) to select a blank area around the text, (I find this easier than trying to select the small text) and then inverse the selection. Now select the layer your border is on and press delete to cut the small sections out the border, (you may need to hide the text layer to see it). You can use this same process for other types of symbols (e.g. dots). I find this the easiest way to make sure the cut outs are uniform and neatly aligned. For larger cutouts use the polygon lasso tool, remembering to press shift if you want 45 degree cutouts. I find it best to use only 90 or 45 degree cutouts. Once you are satisfied with your cutouts we can start adding effects to give the border a 3d metallic look. This is where I have made it VERY easy for you, by using the attached "style" file, all the hard work is done for you. Open your "Styles" palette if it's not already open and select the "Tech Borders" style, you will have a palette like the one shown below. Now it's just a matter of selecting the layer for your border and then clicking on the style you want, how easy is that? You can modify any of the settings in the styles to suit your taste, but the 5 presets I have given you will provide a good place to start. You should now have a nice single layer tech border looking something like the picture below, I used "Tech Border 5". Now to do our second border layer, which is very simple. Select your border with the magic wand making sure you have anti-aliasing turned on and contiguous turned off. Make a new layer and go to "Select > Modify > Contract..." and contract the selection by 5 pixels. Now with the paint bucket tool fill, this selection with white. Now you can again apply a style of your choice, choose a different style than the bottom layer. You now have a simple double layer tech border that looks something like the picture below, I used "Tech Border 3" for my top layer. The rest of the sig is up to you!

I assume this is what you are talking about in the TOS. But there is something else in the TOS you may have missed. Something else you might have missed, this means you are violating the TOS with every post you make. So let's not go on about who is violating the TOS shall we? I don't think I'll post in this thread anymore, I've said enough. Some people seem to understand the point I'm trying to make and some don't. That's just the way it is I guess.

Your principal said what?!? What the heck is this person doing in charge of a school? You definately should hand in your homework if you have done it, otherwise you are wasting your time. I like your solution of handing the papers in after everyone has left. Don't worry about your 'friends', sooner or later they will realise that they too should have handed in their work too, chances are they will come to you for help. If they don't and continue to be childish about it, you could probably be without their so called 'friendship'.

I think you're missing the point here truefusion, setting up a forum name like this is hypocritical. As I, Mich and others have already said... Being the mature age I am, the word does not offend me, in fact I use it quite regularly. The thing is, if it's not considered an offensive word by the forum admin, why is it censored in posts? Aside from whether it's considered offensive or not, personally I don't think it's very professional to use it, but that's just me I guess.

All of your questions can be easily answered by reading the Xisto Readme, the link is at the top of the Shoutbox on every page. It has a wealth of information you should read to make your self familiar with the rules of the forums. The section on how the Hosting Credit System works is here.

2 New Sigs 1 final fantasy 1 gundam
Avalon replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I agree, the border color on the first one doesn't look good. Perhaps a blue overlay border might have worked better? And again I agree, the text is not working. Maybe solid with a slight glow might work? I think the border needs more weight too, perhaps a double border. -
Sig Request by sccrnlaxdude92
Avalon replied to sccrnlaxdude92's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I was about to start making this sig for you and then I looked at your posts. Maybe you have read rules in regard to requesting a sig, but it seems quite obvious you haven't read the rules of the forum. Nearly all your posts are one liners. I think you need to read this topic, http://forums.xisto.com/topic/77393-welcome-to-xisto-open-discussion-free-web-hosting/ Once you start posting some quality posts I will make this sig for you. EDIT: Actually, I wonder if you did read the rules concerning requesting a sig... A one line post is not a quality post. -
I guess the one benefit to using the poll is that people do not get credit for posting the updated scores, (I think SOTW posts earn credits now?) Technically, the scores should be quoted, but it's hard enough to get people to update the scores without expecting them to quote the scores. Hard to know which way to go I guess. If only it was possible to make it that the poll wouldn't accept a vote unless a comment is made. Or maybe it is possible?
-
So the vote tally will be based on the comments and not the poll? If this is the case, why have the poll at all? Yes it looks more organised, but it shows the wrong results, so it's pretty pointless isn't it?Just my thoughts.
-
I'm curious about using the poll for voting, there are 7 votes but only 5 comments. Does this mean 2 of the votes are null votes and shouldn't be counted?

India Is Heading Into A Good Thing Outsourcing IT in India
Avalon replied to jlhaslip's topic in General Discussion
This raises an interesting question. What is an Indian IT professional to do, stay in India where work is in abundance for less pay or move to a western country where work might be a bit harder to come by but the pay is higher? Obviously for some people the question will be easy to answer as they have no desire to move to another country, for others I think it would be a difficult choice. What do our Indian members think about this? -
Definately DO NOT respond to this email. I have seen this before, it is a scam to get you to give them your private banking details. You see, they will string you along for a while and then ask for your personal and bank account details so they can "transfer the funds". At this point they proceed to empty your bank account. That scam been brought to light several times in Australia.Be VERY wary of anyone trying to "give you something for nothing", it almost always turns out to be a scam.

I don't know, that is just the way the render is. I hadn't really noticed it until you mentioned it.
-
Congratulations Se?or Maniac! You won by a considerable margin. Well done!

I think the fact it can't be seen in the forums is quite ok, sure we know what is implied by the *bleep*, but at least younger members don't actually see the offending word. There is no need to tell people to refrain from swearing because the forum does it for us. Having one of these words, that anywhere else in the forum is censored, as a forum title seems inconsistent and hypocritical. Having the censorship in place suggests a certain standard of language is expected here. I think a title like that is below the expected standard. It has been mentioned that this is some type of marketing ploy. If this is so, why was the same test not undertaken at the Xisto forums? Surely a wider audience would give a better indication of the success or failure of such a marketing exercise? I suggest the reason for this is because those forums have an expected level of language, like I thought there was here. Yes, these are Opaque's forums and he can do what ever he wishes. But it should be remembered that he has said many times that he is trying to create a forum community. Is this in the best interests of that community? Perhaps he can enlighten us as to how it will benefit the community?

Seeing how I made this neat double layer tech border just recently, I thought I might modify it slightly and use it here. No the render is not blended, I purposely just used a drop shadow to enhance the 3D look of the render so it fits in with the border. Good luck everyone, I think this will be a tough competition with a lot of high quality entries.

Battlefield 2 Sig This is my best so far...
Avalon replied to MaineFishing45's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
The basis of a good sig is there, but it does need more as you have mentioned. - A border is a must - The large white area needs some type of background - For text you could try looking at places like dafont I suggest you look at the many tutorials in the Tutorial Forum, you will find many techniques there to help you improve your sig making. I won't rate your sig because it sounds like you haven't finished it as yet. -
This is where I think you will get into problems. Being as html code is not enabled on the forum I don't think you will be able to use any javascript code. I guess the mods/admin will be able to tell you for sure.
