The Xisto Gallery for some reason converts GIF files to JPG files. This of course means if the GIF is animated or has transparency, neither of them work. There is a way around it, but it's a little annoying. Here's an example of what I mean. GIF converted to JPG

I really like this sig, even if I can't tell what the render is. The render looks to be nicely blended and the color works well. Only criticisms are the border I think could be a little closer to the edge so it doesn't go over the render so much, in fact the border appears to be closer to the bottom and sides than the top, or put the render on top of the border. The text could be little more prominent, perhaps a shade or two lighter and not eroded quite so much. 9/10 from me.

I used this render in the Wolverine Sig battle with Saint Michael, enjoy.

Wassie Less Active you probably allready notticed :P
Avalon replied to wassie's topic in General Discussion
I think a lesson in life has been learnt here, "All things in moderation." We all sometimes get so engrossed in one particular thing that we forget about other things in our life, such as our friends (and family). Good to see you back wassie. Zythrix, just remember that when you finally do apply, your hosting credits will go down to 2, regardless of how many credits above what is needed for your hosting you have. Therefore, while waiting until you have 100 credits before you apply may show your commitment, be prepared to lose the majority of them. Just thought I'd give you warning so you don't get a shock at losing all those credits. -

Let's try with this one. Cut out the render myself, do I get extra points? j/k -
Latest Sig 3 More Sigs till Season 3 Starts
Avalon replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
The difference in background for the left and right sides looks a little odd. The black angled line near the bottom not being straight kinda messes up the arrows. I think the arrows look out of place, perhaps if you used the shapes like you have at the top right in the 'orange-like' color, put them in the lower half in black. Colors match the render nicely. -
Saint-michael Vs {you Name Here) Wolverine Sig Battle
Avalon replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I've never entered one of these battles before, but I'll give it a try. What is the timeframe for completing the sig? -
Animation seems to be the current flavour, here's my entry. The spinning character is the tattoo, the closest I could find to it anyway. Link to sig

Expanding Image Gallery Images Expanding on a mousover
Avalon replied to sharpz's topic in Programming
It works fine on my version of Firefox 1.5.0.1 Perhaps you don't have the latest version. I run an image gallery myself, but I don't think type of layout would work very well for me as I have descriptions for my images and some of the images are quite large. I don't know, it might be worth experimenting with. -
Maybe it's just me with my crappy dial-up connection, but 396kb file size for a sig seems way too big. I assume this is due to the animation. The animation from my perspective is barely noticeable, in fact, I couldn't notice it all. I like the image, but I don't think the animation was worth it. I also agree with TF about the text, it's too hard to read. The "word" sig I won't comment on, don't like the concept so my comments on the content would be irrelevant. The button looks like someone cropped it too much. I assume this was done on purpose, but to me it looks a little odd. The "sone Conc" text at the top of the button is also confusing. Being it is the bigger text, I thought that was the name of the site, not "Plusone Concepts".The avatar is great, simple and recognisable as the big J's avatar. Wouldn't change a thing with it.

Make Money Cheating With Online Poker - 100% Legal
Avalon replied to ThePokerPlan's topic in Business Forum
Let's think about this shall we? A person we don't know comes here asking for us to part with our money for a link to a program that allows us to 'legally' cheat other poker players out of their hard earned cash. Legal perhaps, but most certainly not moral or ethical. Obviously you are quite willing to cheat poker players out of their money, why wouldn't we be more than just a little suspicious that you want to cheat us out of our money too? As for "why does everyone on this board have something shuved up their **bottom**?", it is because most of us here have morals, you apparently do not. -
I can see the workload could be heavy. What about sharing the load? There are a few members in the gfx crew that are quite active on the forums, why not delegate the responsibility of running the SOTW on a rotation basis? This way no one person has to come up with the ideas and update the gfxtrap site. You are volunteering your time here, it should be enjoyable, not hard work. Just a thought.

Isn't this the same process as before? See this link for an example.. http://forums.xisto.com/topic/30263-sotw-16-entries/ Perhaps 'Sig Of The Month' might be easier to manage? The danger with that though is the competition might become 'stale' between entry rounds.

Yes, I think it's better than the original, but I don't particurlay like it. I think it's just the animation itself, it seems kinda pointless. Sorry.

Yes, well there is your first problem. Frontpage is very good as messing up code. I think you'll also find it very difficult to try and modify this site to work with all browsers, if you use the Frontpage generated code as a starting base, due to the amount of unnecessary code it puts in your pages. If you must use a WYSIWYG editor, I suggest you switch to Dreamweaver. From what I have seen it adds the least amount of unnecessary code. Enough said! Even in IE6 I found your tables to be out of alignment, not as bad as in Firefox, but they were still out. As for your center media item, with a dial-up connection it takes too long to load. I waited for about 30 seconds and it only reached about 3% loaded, I wasn't going to wait for the whole thing. In general I think your site looks a little bland, perhaps increasing the size of your logo and adding a few other graphics might help.

Yet Another Design Here We Go Again :D
Avalon replied to Plenoptic's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I'm not sure exactly what your design business is, web or graphic? If it is web design, then the layout is great, very clean and functional. If the business is graphic design, then you need to add graphics, lots of them. Potential customers need to have sense of what you can offer them. Your site should be a 'showcase' of what ever it is you're trying to sell.Even if it is web design, perhaps you could spice it up a bit with a few simple graphics like a snappy logo or a clever navigation system. Again, you need to show people what you can do if you want to sell it to them. You need to demonstrate this on the first page they see, they may not bother looking any further if they are not interested by the first page you display to them. -

Try something like this, starting from the line below your <body> tags. <table background="index.jpg"><tr><td><!-- ImageReady Slices (magic5.png) --><div id="navRight" style="position:absolute; width:125px; height:694px; z-index:3; left: 633px; top: 219px; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:11px; color:#FFFFFF;"> <div align="center"><?php include("site_files/bottom.html"); ?></div></div><div id="content" style="position:absolute; width:418px; height:746px; z-index:2; left: 176px; top: 193px; font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:11px; color:#FFFFFF;"><p><font size=-2><center><img src="images/quidditch.gif"></center><br><B>Title:</B> Quidditch Through the Ages<BR><B>Author:</B> Kennilworthy Whisp<P>Quidditch Through the Ages is a great book to read if you like the Harry Potter books and the sport Quidditch. This book guides you from the beggining of Quidditch until the present of what Quidditch is now.The book is focused only on Quidditch, it talks about the many teams from England and many other countries as well. Getting An Image To Scroll On With Content
Avalon replied to Albus Dumbledore's topic in Programming
Not exactly sure what it is you want. If you want to repeat an image in a page I think the easiest is to use a table and set your image as the background. e.g. <table backgorund="image.jpg"> etc.. You can also CSS to set the background images of a table. -
With SOTW #24 closing after 2 weeks of voting on Feb 13 2006 and SOTW #25 being cancelled, I am wondering if SOTW will be brought back again? Personally, SOTW has taught me a lot about graphics and I am sure it has done the same for many others. As far as I am aware this is just about the only competition on Xisto so it would be a shame to see it disappear. So the question remains...

Hmm... this almost looks like it was done on purpose, given the font size and color. Perhaps done to help bots easily find relevant content to raise page rankings? If so, it's a very clever idea, something I might investgate myself.

I have noticed the in topic lists that the "Last post by:" link does not seem to work properly. This is particularly evident in a multi page topic. Instead of the link taking you to the last post on the last page of the topic, you are taken to the first post on the first page.
